most recent one began in the hollywood hills. >> just several hours ago, fire officials say the home we just showed you collapse likely caught on fire due to embers from the hollywood hills. flames. this said new fire adding to the chaos and the la county as crews continue to battle the massive palisades fire. has now been dubbed the most destructive fire in los angeles county history. >> and has left many without the homes. it's just it's just shocking just to look around. it didn't seem real. will the palisades fire has grown nearly 16,000 acres and it is still. >> at 0% containment tonight. >> elsewhere across la county, the eaton fire is also an contained tonight. it continues to rage near pasadena. those flames have scorched more than 10,000 acres. the lydia fire burning in the angeles national forest around 350 acres. it is 40% contained tonight. crews also

battling the smaller woodley at hurst fires. both 0% contained. the winds have been devastating, of course, since yesterday. meteorologist kathy trafton has been keeping an eye on those winds. everyone is wondering when they are going to get a break. kathy, what's going on down there at this hour? >> well, there's no great white yet to see fluctuations in the wind. but by think friday, i think that will start to see some changes. but my goodness gracious, the winds in southern california this last day. >> up to 100 miles per hour. so it's unbelievable. the amount of strength of the wind speeds are coming out of the northeast and these are, of course, the santa ana winds mount lukens down in southern california, 100 miles per hour. magic mountain, the truck trail there, 90 miles per hour salopek and the santa monica mountains, 86 miles per hour. and finally, also the santa monica mountains. deer creek at 80 miles per hour.

high wind warning that is in effect until 10 o'clock friday. so that has been extended. in the meantime, as a lot of smoke coming as well, fires, as you know, embers and smoke must find particulate matter. that is in that in that smoke. and that can if you breathe it, it can cause terrible health problems. it actually cause heart attacks and strokes and asthma breathing problems. and that smoke plume is forecast to extend all the way down. baja, california, go out to sea and then kind of loop back around little bit. so the smoke is one of the many problems, southern california. then the red flag warning for them. is in effect until friday at 6 o'clock. so we've got more of this with gusty offshore winds and low relative humidity, 5 to 20% isolated gusts of wind up to 70 miles per hour thursday night through friday. we'll see stronger winds. and then friday night, i think we'll start to see things. relax just a little bit. so crazy. right back to you. and

i've got more coming up in weather. thank you, kathy. this is a live picture from our sister station in los angeles from there. >> helicopter just showing the firefight down there. the sunset fire erupted just before 6 tonight off sunset boulevard. it's burned about 19 acres near the hollywood walk of fame. other iconic landmarks. of course, what we're showing you now is actually where that house had collapsed. it does look like firefighters have been able to put out most of the flames from that large home that collapsed, which was also causing another home right next to it to burn. but it looks like they have sense ris, you know, gotten a handle on this. the sun set fire. it has burned about 60 acres. it is at 0% containment. yeah, of course, what seeing yet because of those fires raging in la county, president biden has canceled what was supposed to be his final overseas trip of his presidency. the

president was scheduled to be in italy for 3 days meeting with pope francis in italy's president and prime minister and said the president remained in california. he was in santa monica this morning. he met with fire officials and governor gavin newsom to get an update on this fire fight. the president did approve the governor's request for the major disaster declaration and pledge full federal support. all los angeles county schools are going to be closed tomorrow because of the fires and >> superintendent says 2 elementary schools in the district have already been destroyed. high school also burned earlier today. and those buildings are among thousands of facilities that have been wiped out by these fires. kron four's. dan kerman has reactiotonight from families who are fearing the worst. >> wednesday evening, fires continue to burn along the pacific coast highway in santa monica and malibu up the hill. much of pacific palisades has been destroyed and what hasn't been continues to be threatened. this incident is very, very dynamic as we speak. the good news, the

winds have subsided a bit enough to allow are fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft to provide critical. >> support. to this fire more than 1000 structures have been destroyed so far. and that number. >> is expected to climb. i think the house is gone, but i just want to make you know, just i just want to see it for myself. residents ook electric bikes to make their way up. smoky hills. what they found were neighborhoods burned to rubble. go, go, go, go, go go. one group of hikers got caught off guard and had to run for their lives as we got to the bottom of the rock, we started the year. the fire crackled like rate behind us. >> and the wind was starting to pick up really fast and make to be. we got her things and completely booked as fast as we like. yeah, it was. it was terrifying to like feel like running for your life. others who evacuated tuesday weren't sure they were going to make it gridlock. >> and there's no police at all doing traffic management.

so people are because thought we were going to burn up because we had fire going over our heads. the eaton fire just north of pasadena and altadena is also continuing to wreak havoc. >> i want to by the residential streets, evanston northwest, out that, you know where i went to school at saucon mesereau. almost everything is burned out specially in the northwest area right now. it's very some haven't made it back home to find out if they have a home. >> but they're expecting the worst. we pretty much can assume that it's gone. and it is agonizing. >> it's the 3rd time that had to evacuate for fires. first time. that it's gone this excess water demand is also made some fire hydrants run dry, making firefighters efforts all the more difficult. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> mayor and city of san francisco. congratulations.

investigators are calling this a homicide investigation. kron four's and see for joining us live in santa rosa tonight. >> with the very latest lindsay. >> yes, i'm on monarch court west of downtown santa rosa. and you can see behind police officers still have the street blocked off because the crime is still being investigated. i spoke to one woman who lives on this block and she tells me this is scary. this is something that's never happened in her quiet mobile park neighborhood. >> you know, you hear the sirens out. occidental won over by stony point, but not out here. you don't hear much and to hear this happened. it was like, oh, my scary. jerry tapp road moved to monarch court neighborhood in santa rosa because of its tranquility. she says she never would have imagined to find a crime scene. >> just steps away from her home just police officers. racing down the road. santa rosa police say they got a call around 3 wednesday

afternoon to conduct a welfare check at a home on monarch court. officers entered the home through a window. >> and found 4 people dead. very large response immediately from petrol and then our entire violent crimes investigations, team of detectives and their surgeon are out here currently santa rosa police say this type of incident is very unusual for this quiet neighborhood. >> this neighborhood is a 55 and over mobile home community. it's very quiet, very peaceful. >> and this is highly unusual for santa rosa as sarah's is a very safe community. and in 2024, we only had 2 homicides tap says she never met the people who lived in the home. >> but says she has seen police visit them a couple of times shortly after wednesday's grim discovery. tap for us said she saw police and animal control remove a dog and cats from the home. she spoke to other neighbors who said they are in disbelief

all the way through the weekend into monday, tuesday, wednesday, no rain for us. in fact, the climate prediction center's bull's eyes, the entire west coast from the canadian border all the way down toward los angeles has drier than normal through at least the 16th of january. so we are in for a dry spell forecast lows overnight. looking for temperatures mainly in the 40's and highs tomorrow. looking for temperatures 60's for the most part, maybe 70 and bill. but 67 in oakland and a look ahead for the next 3 days, breezy sunny, more of the same set cookie cutter. slightly cooler. and it's actually going to be a beautiful spell. i've got the 10 day forecast coming up in just a few minutes. right now, it's back to noel and dan. thanks, kathy. in the east bay, no charges will be filed in a shooting that left a man dead in orinda last year. neighbors who heard it all happened say they believe it was road rage.

>> the shooting happened on sept in september on las vegas road and loss for all way. deputies say 50 year-old scott decker died at the scene. they didn't give a lot of information about what happened. neighbors, however, tell us they heard yelling tires, screeching and what sounded like gunshots. step uti's did detain the other person involved in this but released them shortly after kron. 4 sources confirm no charges will be filed in the case. we did reach out to the contra costa county sheriff's office for a little bit more information, but have not yet heard back. >> police have identified the victim shot and killed at a gas station in san francisco's mission district on new year's day. 36 year-old gerardo de avila, garcia was found dead at a gas station on south van ness avenue. police say the shooter what drove away but they quickly tracked him down and arrested him. the man is facing murder charges and will appear in court on monday. to capitol hill where thousands of people have filed into the

>> in los angeles, the sunset fire erupted just before 6 o'clock tonight south of sunset boulevard. for a while. it seemed like they were getting a little bit of a handle on it. and then, you know, embers whipping everywhere due to these high winds. and that's what ends up happening. right? and head takes a lot effort and, you know, being able to predict these kinds of things is just imposter. hard to do. yeah. and then put out a fire at one home and then you're hoping to save all these others. >> and in terms of this fire, i believe the same one that we've been looking at. this is the hollywood hills fire. it's burned about 60 acres. it's not far from the hollywood walk of fame. of course, the other iconic landmarks out there and we're still at 0% containment there. yeah, that is just one of of several 5 others have basically surrounded los angeles county from the ocean. >> to the valleys, there is the hearst and lydia fires in santa clarita. the woodley fire burning in the san

fernando valley. by far, though, the 2 most destructive ones are the eaton fire burning in altadena and the palisades fire in pacific palisades. we wer just listening to that man, talk about how he was trying to, you know, put out the flames at neighbor's home using pool water. my cousin's family is in palisades area. he had to do the same. he saved his home by dousing it with cool water. you know, the yard is pretty much torch, but was able safest right there and have so many people that leave that don't know. right. and we were listening from reporters earlier that were saying that they >> go to one neighborhood. its unscathed and then another neighborhood. all of them are gone and some on the same street. you know, someone, one side of the street gone on the other. they're standing so. >> are thoughts and our hearts for sure are with those down in southern california tonight. of course, we're talkng about all these fires that have en burning, that

it basically is surrounded the la county area. >> again, the hearst fire in the lady of fires which have been burng out there as well. we know that in san fernando valley, there's been an issue there. again, the eaton fire being the major fire that's been burning near pasadena. and that's altadena and then the pacific fire, which has been burning and pacific palisades new tonight, governor gavin newsom announced the state is mobilizing up to 140 additional water tenders to assist in the ongoing firefight in la county. right now, more than 7500. >> firefighting and emergency personnel from up and down. the state are in los angeles. that includes several from the bay area. kron four's gayle ong has more on that. >> firefighters from san francisco. alameda county. santa clara county heading to los angeles to help battle the fast-moving fires forcing thousands of residents to

bay area firefighters could remain out there for at least 2 weeks in the studio. gayle ong kron. 4 news. >> pg e is also sending aid to southern california. the utility says they sent 2 black hawk helicopters to help cal fire. it also dispatched a 25 member crew to help apply fire retardant on 2 poles and other power equipment to check fire damage due utility equipment and make the area a little safer for crews to try and restore power >> emergency officials are working tirelessly to coordinate the state's response to these wildfires. governor gavin newsom announced more than 7500 firefighting and emergency personnel have been deployed to help out this response includes hundreds of fire engines more than 100 water tenders and more than 30 helicopters assistance is also on its way from out of state and from the california national guard. cal oes is working very closely with our state partners, our federal partners and our local first

creek canyon, santa monica mountains, 86, 80 miles per hour gusts. so that is really something. and then take a look at the surface smoke. southern california. this is a forecast model showing you my goodness, gracious. lots of smoke, of course, coming out of southern california. the concern is particulate matter from the wildfires and that if you breathe it enough to get in deeply into your lungs and have terrible health consequences such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma problems could trigger breathing problems and look at how far this this extends all the way down, baja, california, and then it goes out to the ocean and then kind of curls back. so this wildfire smoke that alone is a real concern, much less. the winds and the fires has been devastating in southern california, a red flag warning continues until friday at 6 o'clock and gusty offshore winds coupled with low relative humidity, 10 to 20%, even as low as 5%. isolated

gusts of wind could be night, 70 miles per hour and some of the highest peaks thursday night into friday. those winds strengthen once again. so we're not out of the woods in southern california yet. and there's a high wind warning that's for diego county, san bernardino counties as well. so across much of southern california, these winds are a big factor coming closer to home. my goodness gracious. it's beautiful. and our temperatures today were as many as 10 degrees warmer than normal. that would be santa rosa at 67 degrees. looking for raindrops, neri and rain drop in our forecast all the way through next week. and then the climate prediction center. it has actually not true. the 16th of the month when we see any raindrops that keeps us dry with temperatures and the and precipitation drier than normal. in fact, toward the end of the month not even see raindrops. so let me just show you very quickly numbers in the 60's. pretty much everywhere. tomorrow like
