necessarily the best news for southern california. neighbors, red-flag warnings and high wind warnings. our extended through friday and we will still see 40 to 50 mile per hour. wind gusts through southern california today and signs pointing towards yet another wind event kicking up into early next week, too. so this is. very bad situation for southern california. neighbors. we've seen those multiple fires continuing to grow rapidly. and as i mentioned, we still do have that slew advisories down south as you can see up north in the bay area. we do not have any advisories. so we are yet again in the clear today, we do have a modest wind. it is nothing much in actually comes down. still a little bit of a breeze out in the delta more than anything else. as for temperatures were chilly this morning right now in the 30's for palo alto was petaluma and and santa rosa, oakland and san francisco even falling down into the 40's. so

a chilly start to what will be a another mild day for us in the bay area. not a very windy forecast for southern california. still windy and still dry. unfortunately. >> we're not seeing any backups yet still very early. so that could change. but a bay bridge looks great. richmond center fell bridge only 7 minutes. so you're rolling at the limit there. and the golden gate bridge unimpeded by any backups and no wind at our bridges this morning. right what we are staying on top of breaking news out of southern california where multiple people are dead. >> thousands being forced to leave their homes because the wildfires in and around los angeles county. let's get a look at the map on your screen showing basically a ring of fire right now called fire reporting their 5 larger blaze has burned hundreds acres. you can still see the small red dots represented a lot of smaller fires. so here's what we know about the bigger ones. fire officials say the most recent the sunset fire started around 06:00pm wednesday in

the hollywood hills neighborhood. so far, officials say it has burned about 43 acres. it is 0% contained. it's being named as the likely cause of this house fire in nearby studio city over 50 firefighters responding to the 4 story blaze. thankfully, nobody was hurt. fire officials are saying embers from the sunset fire might have started it. meanwhile, in northern los angeles county, we have the lydia fire that's burning in the antelope valley. our only sister station ktla, posting this picture showing large plumes of smoke coming from the angeles national forest. according to cal fire. it's part of wednesday afternoon, right near acton. that's about 50 miles north of the city of l a the latest data showing its burn 340 acres and is thankful e 40% contained. now let's talk about the hearse fire. that's when burning since tuesday evening, right in sylmar. not too far from san fernando. this is actually video crews dumping fire retardant in the area trying

to get that fire under control. the fire caused an emergency officials to have to issue a mandatory evacuation order so far. cal fire says it's far more than 800 acres and is only 10% contained. cal fire saying the deadly eaton fire burning in altadena is now responsible for burning more than 10,000 acres with 0% containment. that's being blamed for the deaths of 5 people. according to fire officials that started tuesday evening. while the winds in the area were gusting and more than 100 miles per hour. it calls scenes like this where a bank of america branch in altadena burned down the fire's damage or destroyed just under 1000 structures. now let's talk about the latest fire burning in los angeles county. the massive palisades fire is being blamed for burning more than 17,000 acres. it is 0% contained. you can really get a better look at how big the fire is from the plain view. fire officials

are now calling this the most destructive fire in los angeles county history. and now many people are left without a place to call home. one man got pretty emotional while he was talking with a reporter about all the destruction. take a listen. as i want to tell you brett, can you pan over that? >> house is gone. house is burning right now. >> just look at the aftermath of the palisades fire. you can see entire blocks turned to ash for we're gonna be updating you on the firefight efforts all this morning as they work to try to get everything under control. all los angeles county schools are going to be closed this morning because of those fires. and the superintendent is saying 2 elementary schools in the district have already been destroyed. those buildings are among thousands of facilities that have been completely wiped out by 6

wildfires. kron four's. dan kerman has the latest for us. >> wednesday evening, fires continue to burn along the pacific coast highway in santa monica and malibu up the hill. much of pacific palisades has been destroyed and what hasn't been continues to be threatened. this incident is very, very dynamic as we speak. the good news, the winds have subsided a bit enough to allow are fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft to provide critical. >> support. to this fire more than 1000 structures have been destroyed so far. and that number is expected to climb. >> i think the house is gone, but i just want to make you know, just i just want to see for myself. residents took electric bikes to make their way up. smoky hills. what they found were neighborhoods burned to rubble. go, go, go, go, go go. one group of hikers got caught off guard and had to run for their lives as we got to the bottom of the rock, we started hear the fire

crackled like rate behind us. >> and the wind was starting to pick up really fast and like to be, we got her things and completely booked as fast as we like. yeah, it was. it was terrifying to like feel like running for your life. others who evacuated tuesday weren't sure they were going to make it gridlock. >> and there's no police at all doing traffic management. so people are because thought we were going to burn up because we had fire going over our heads. the eaton fire just north of pasadena and altadena is also continuing to wreak havoc. >> i went by the residential streets, evanston northwest, out that, you know, where i went to school at soggy mess. all. almost everything is going down, especially in the northwest area right now. it's very some haven't made it back home to find out if they have a home. >> but they're expecting the worst. we pretty much can assume that it's gone. and it is agonizing. >> it's the 3rd time that had

to evacuate for fires first time. then it's gone this way. excess water demand is also made some fire hydrants run dry, making firefighters efforts all the more difficult. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> governor gavin newsom announcing the state is going mobilize up to 140 additional water tenders all to assist in ongoing firefight in la right now. more than 7500 firefighting and emergency personnel from up and down california. they are in los angeles. that includes dozens of firefighters from right here in the bay area departments in san francisco, santa clara alameda sonoma since strike teams and fire engines. most of the bay crews are expected to help with the palisades fire, the largest fire of the 6. >> california, 6 print fees in the past. just like we had up here in santa rosa. you know, those those kind of fires develop really quick. let's take it down into some of those neighborhoods stuff like that. the which would be the wildland urban interface where a lot of these neighborhoods meet the wildland areas with

the winds couple that it can move very fast. and i think it caught a lot of people off guard. >> the deployment is all part mutual aid program with the state. pg e also sitting ad southern california. the utility says they sent 2 black hawk helicopters to help cal fire. they also dispatched a 25 member crew to apply fire retardant and poles and other equipment. they check the fire damage, utility equipment, also making sure it's safe in the area for crews to try and restore power. cause of the fires raging in la county. president biden canceling what was supposed to be his final overseas trip of his presidency. the president was scheduled to be in italy for 3 days meeting with pope francis in italy's president and prime minister biden was in santa monica wednesday morning. were he met with fire officials and governor gavin newsom. the president approving the governor's request for the major disaster declaration and pledged full federal support. emergency officials working

calling on the region's entrepreneuers to contribute to the california community foundation. wildfire recovery fund helping provide immediate relief and long-term rebuilding efforts. a grim discovery in the north bay. 4 people found dead inside of a home in santa rosa. investigators are calling this a homicide case. we talked to neighbors as they try to figure out what happened in their typically quiet neighborhood. daniel lurie, officially, sarah says because a new mayor, hundreds of people packed the civic center plaza yesterday for his inauguration. he renewed his promise to move the city forward and address to grow in issues of homelessness and drug addiction. laurie also gives an inside of what to expect from his first 100 days in office. and former congresswoman barbara lee has announced her bid for mayor of oakland. comes ahead of a special election in april. lee joins a list of candidates that includes former city councilman loren taylor. one of the many concerns in the city is the closure of fire stations a large budget deficit.

>> well, morning up there so far. here's your view of downtown san francisco. not a cloud in the sky. no fog whatsoever. and guess what? not really talking a lot of wind for the bay, which is definitely nice news for us. we do have a very, very light offshore wind here in the bay area for southern california, neighbors that offshore wind does continue. we've still had 40 to 50 mile per hour gusts. i mean, yesterday, though, we had gusts approaching 100 miles per hour. and that is what absolutely feel this flames. we still do have red flag warnings and those fire weather warnings and just when did warnings in general all across southern california, the la metro area still very much so in the midst of some strong winds in signs are pointing towards a nother offshore wind event into early next week, too. so we're still continuing to see this fire danger through tomorrow. and then next week, not catching a

breather. so this is a bad situation with no rain in the forecast for southern california, neighbors. our situation up here is definitely comparatively much better. we've seen the winter rain. our winds have relaxed already. so very much so a better situation for the bay. you can see just how much calmer we are today. i mean i'd from the delta bay area's looking really nice and calm. there's that low sitting across the southwest slowly exiting the region. we will have a brief reprieve in winds towards the weekend for southern california. but it does look like the that especially monday into next week, another offshore wind could kick into gear monday night and this could cause devastating winds yet again for southern california. neighbors. we'll be keeping a very close eye on that 60's for your daytime highs in the city as well as out along the coastline. very similar forecast test yesterday, south san francisco, san bruno, bill bay in the mid 60's for your

daytime highs nearing 70 in palo alto at 67 getting to 70 in san jose, santa clara and milpitas. these could be potentially record-breaking warm numbers across the bay area today. we have been shedding a few records the past few days and today, no different with just how warm it will be for january fairfield, napa yacht bill vacaville all into the low 70's this afternoon. a look ahead does show daytime highs remaining predominantly in the 60's with sunshine and nothing but it this high pressure. ridge is a hard trend to break. very stubborn and persistent. well into next week. roadways this morning, doing ok, we do have an easy commute. there's now any wind out. there not any fog. we are rolling at the limit right now on all of our spans. so take no charges are going to be filed in a shooting that left a man dead in a rental last year. >> neighbors who heard it say they think it might even road

rage. the shooting happened in september on las vegas road and la serie a way. deputies say 50 year-old scott decker died at the scene. did not give a lot of information about what happened. but neighbors tell us they heard yelling tires, screeching, sounded like gunshots. deputies detained the other person of all but released him shortly after 4 sources confirming no charges will be filed in the case. reached out to contra costa county sheriff's office for more information and haven't heard back yet. police have identified the victim and was shot and killed at a gas station in san francisco's mission district on new year's day. 36 year-old ronald de avila garcia found dead at a gas station on south van ness avenue. police say the shooter drove away but they quickly tracked him down and arrested him. the man is now facing murder charges and will appear dpin a court on monday. santa clara county sheriff. they made a major weapons discovery during a routine patrol highway wednesday. deputy venezuela noticed a man in a car. the windows were shattered. you didn't have a

license plate. the man claimed there were no illegal items. said a search uncovered 6 ghost guns loaded with weapons. the suspect also a convicted felon was arrested and now faces 18 felony charges. authorities say they're cracking down on ghost guns, which are growing concern in the fight against illegal firearms. in the north bay. santa rosa man under arrest, suspected of dealing meth in the area. sonoma police say they carried out a search warrant at a home on ware avenue. okay. with the sonoma county sheriff's office help sniff out about 4 pounds of suspected meth. the suspect was booked into jail. today. the nation is going to say its final goodbye to president jimmy carter as world leaders, government officials and average americans gather in washington for the former president's state funeral. he's going to be laid to rest in his hometown of plains, georgia washing correspondent trevor shirley is live in dc with more. good morning, trevor.

news. we are continuing our fire coverage. the fire is burning throughout southern california. back here at home. john, we've been talking about bay area right now. of course, all eyes are still on southern california. they are in the midst of still red flag warnings and high wind warnings all extended through tomorrow. we still have gusts around 40 to 50 miles per hour for socal. certainly not as high as yesterday's near 100 mile per hour. gusts but still very strong winds and very dry conditions, too. bay area. we don't have any advisories right now and we are looking pretty good for the day today. just warm and sunny for us. take a look at this map right here. while northern california seen really healthy rainfall. southern california is just falling further and further behind latest drought monitor updates are showing an

center fell. >> as well as at the golden gates right now. all right, john, thanks that. let's continue our breaking news of southern california where multiple fires have destroyed businesses and homes. the palisades fire destroyed many iconic businesses white along pacific coast highway sandra mitchell has more on that. >> from hollywood and studio city into the palace aides and malibu. we have been out sort of looking at all of the damage in southern california, some of the most heartbreaking images are coming out of malibu. we have lost some real treasures along the pacific ocean. >> these incredible images just ashes. really? we couldn't believe it. but this this was the iconic moon shadows restaurant along pacific coast highway. the rest are on a celebrity hangout, a special occasion spot for so many people here in the la area perched out over the pacific. but now we saw it. has been destroyed.

the entire structure went up in flames and then it just fell into the ocean down pch. the real in that funky seafood, roadside restaurant and then the thai restaurant next door also destroyed and the houses beachside cottages, multi-million dollar mansions. >> burned to the ground. really one after another for about 3 miles. several homes in the 20,800 block of pch in malibu destroyed. >> as fire responders did structure protection on one of those homes along pch. a firefighter was injured. it appeared to be a minor injury to his arm, but he was transported from the scene. much of the damage in the carbon canyon area. trees down, power lines down and dozens of utility poles up in flames and just lying across the road. >> so a lot of people wondering just how many homes have been lost in malibu. we do not have an official count. of course, those numbers will come in the days ahead, but we can tell you it was just home

she says she never would have imagined to find a crime scene. >> just steps away from her home just police officers. racing down the road. santa rosa police say they got a call around 3 wednesday afternoon to conduct a welfare check at a home on monarch court. officers entered the home through a window. >> and found 4 people dead. very large response immediately from petrol and then our entire violent crimes investigations, team of detectives and their surgeon are out here currently santa rosa police say this type of incident is very unusual for this quiet neighborhood. >> this neighborhood is a 55 and over mobile home community. it's very quiet, very peaceful. >> and this is highly unusual for santa rosa as sarah's is a very safe community. and in 2024, we only had 2 homicides. says she never met the people who lived in the home. >> but says she has seen police visit them a couple of times shortly after

course, the biggest topic, this offseason quarterback brock purdy and a potential big money extension 30 pretty entering the 4th and final year of his rookie contract and both shanahan and lynch said today they're hoping to get a deal done. an extension done sooner than later. parties numbers took a step back this year. but you got to keep in mind all the injuries that his offense had to deal with. he was out without guys like christian mccaffrey. brandon, iu trent williams on the line on and on. and he still threw for nearly 4,000 yards, had 20 touchdowns. 12 interceptions, of course, last season. pretty was an mvp candidate for 1208 passing yards. 31 touchdowns. 11 picks and he's got the full support of lynch and shanahan, phyllis. and i think what we know about brock is that he's our guy. we've got. >> you know, we have interest brought being around here for for for a long, long time. he's done so much for our organization is one.

bay area. >> all is calm and very, very clear this morning. we are looking at another day that is going to be warmer than average and another calm day today. importantly for us looking outside at sfo, beautiful day for flying out there. no cloud cover whatsoever. now all the warnings in southern california at the high wind warnings and the red flag warnings have been extended through tomorrow. and this is because winds are still absolutely a factor. 40 to 50 mile per hour gusts down south in the bay area. we don't see any advisories whatsoever. so we are indeed com. you can see a little bit of a breeze up in the delta. but aside from that, a nice favorable day for venturing outside. it is a cold morning, though, with temperatures down in the 30's for palo alto, dublin, conquered santa rosa among a few spots. so absolutely throw on that extra layer. we are a lot colder. then at the same time yesterday we got rid of the winds that we had yesterday morning. and ahat's that layer has coupled and we are looking at a really chilly start for a lot of us la
