>> major development this past hour in that big wildfire now burning in calabassas tonight, news nation's brian entin is reporting that los angeles authorities say the fire is being investigated as arson and then a person is in police custody. that fire has grown to more than 960 acres. now from just 50 acres few hours ago. evacuation orders are in place and this is just one of 6 fires burning. now, officials say at least >> 10,000 structures have been destroyed in these fires that started the couple days ago. at least 2 people have died in the fire in palisades 5 died

in the fire near pasadena. you're talking about 17,000 acres that have burned in the palisades fire alone. as for that eaton fire in altadena again, 5 people have been killed there and 13,000 acres have burned. we have a look at where the fires are burning. that is in addition, these 5 to the kenneth fire, which is the one that just started this afternoon calabassas. they're all over la county. it is just a a surreal situation that the folks down there have been dealing with. yeah. and residents are still missing in those fires. continue to rage 0 containment on the. >> the 2 big ones, the palisades fire, the eaton fire kron four's terisa stasio reports. >> i heard a commotion and i walk outside. my neighbors are looking in the distance and literally a mile from here on the hill are just shy in

california with the school and college there in southern california. just part of life there. but >> when you have the combination of very dry conditions, they've hardly had a drop of rain throughout the hot summer season and then you get the santa anas kick in and pull out of fuel. but if these are like hurricane force, yeah, they >> yeah, they have. they have those gusty winds. i mean, they happen from time to time. but if they coincide with the season, like what we've had works, been so dry. and of course, before that, we had a very wet winter season there. everything was wrong. like crazy, right? then you get to the dry stuff. you've got all the fuel on the ground. and this is what we've got now. so >> dangerous conditions in southern california. there's no getting around the santa just beginning to ramp up. now you can see in ontario, some of those gusts now begin to pick up nearly 30 miles an hour. not so strong down in los angeles basin, los angeles proper. you actually see an onshore breeze there. 78 miles an hour. that's some good news. that's what we need. we need more of those onshore breeze. that brings up the humidity, speaking humidity right now. you look to los angeles there. 59 1%. that is very moist. that's what we

like to see. but then you start to go inland near pasadena. we're talking about 15%. al monte. about 15% a plan you're looking percent chino, 7% corona. so some very dry air mixing down from the mountains again. and that's what's going to happen overnight tonight. you can get that dry offshore wind continuing. and of course, the drier things are the easier things burn. and that's what we're going to see happening again tonight. very strong, gusty winds, not as gusty as it's been the last couple of nights, but we could still see some gusts over 50 miles an hour making for some very dangerous fire conditions there. you'll notice on the forecast overnight tonight. you see those strong, gusty offshore winds. you start to look at the red and some of the purple 40, some 50 mile an hour gusts. but then as we head through the day tomorrow, look what happens office and you see the arrows change direction. we get more of a sea breeze kicking and that is great news for firefighters that will bring up the humidity a bit. that'll slow down. these fires hopefully for a longer period of time. of course, you get all these fires in place and what starts to build up all that smoke kind of settling down as the

winds have calmed down during the late afternoon. all of a sudden you start to see these areas, all the red out there. that is really some dangerous air quality, just kind of settling into the los angeles basin tonight. another scary night overnight. tonight, though, those rains of those fires likely to rage again overnight tonight into at least early tomorrow morning. all right, laura, it's got to get through it in the south bay. the city of san jose is stepping up efforts to try to remove rv encampments along city streets and >> kron 4 charles clifford reports. >> by law vehicles that are parked along city streets here in san jose need to be registered operational and they can't stay in one spot longer than 72 hours. but in some places like behind me here, there are a visa been parked on the same location for a very long time. and starting today, the city is stepping up efforts to move the the city of san jose estimates that there are about 2000 oversized rv type vehicles parked on city streets. not all of those are occupied, but in some places like here, a long tunnel with avenue, a group of rv's that are being used as housing have been parked here for weeks or

even months after receiving numerous complaints from neighbors. the city is stepping up efforts to move these vehicles will be establishing tow away zones. and jose mayor matt mahan says they will start by asking nicely, give them ample time to find another place to be. >> and and then we will after 2 weeks be clearing the sites, hoping to avoid creating an endless game of whack a mole. the mayor says the city is working on finding permanent housing for the people who live here and possibly creating a place where these rv's can park long term. he admits that the city will never be able to get rid of all large rv's parked along city streets. but he says the current arrangement is unsustainable. if you own an rv and want to live in it permanently will work with you. but you need to find a sustainable, permanent place to live in rv. the city currently has a dozen locations across san jose where it plans to step up parking enforcement and more than a dozen other spots that they are currently considering taking additional action in san jose. charles clifford

wellness evans. in fact, we had a 78 degree reading in santa rosa, not a record, but still very, very nice out the door right now. these temperatures are going to fall off as we've got some drier air in place. still pretty comfortable in spots. we've got some 50's and 60's outside even 62 degrees right now in downtown san francisco. 56 in fremont 64 degrees in san jose. and how about 69 degrees right now in santa rosa. high pressure still in control. that ridge? well, you can see how dominant that is. and unfortunately, when you get a bridge built in like that, usually they last for quite a while. that's going to be sticking around. you can see another storm system kind of drop off the top of it. but unfortunately can't get any rain rolling into the bay area with that kind of a really blocking ridge in place. that means we're gonna stay dry for the foreseeable future. enjoy the sunshine and warm temperatures while we have maybe about 70 again in downtown san jose. little bit cooler going to see a little bit of a seabreeze kick in. so about 59 in the san francisco and the next few days. temperatures do cool down, but we stay dry as can be occasionally some gusty winds as we head through monday.
