seen regular gas is around 30 to even 40 miles per hour. so already starting the morning, very breezy and these high wind watches associated with the stronger wind event right now for the north bay mountains. honestly should be seeing those for a lot of the rest of the bay area, too. our extended all the way through 10:00am tomorrow. so today is going to be a breezy day tonight will be a breezy night tomorrow morning. still very windy, too. and that, of course, these dry offshore winds is upping fire danger pretty wide range of temps this morning, 30's, 40's and 50's depending on where you're at right now. oakland sitting at 55 degrees petaluma at 55 as we move into the afternoon. temperatures will be in the 60's again. so a mild one, a sunny one, but a windy one in already very windy out there. i'll be talking more about our fire danger in the southern part of the state. still ahead. >> doing ok this morning. we do have wind advisories, honor bridges, though. that's where

you're going to see those stronger gust that includes the bay bridge as well as the richmond sandra fell bridge is which are not slowing traffic just yet golden gate bridge looking just fine rain. all right. thank you for that. john. fire crews in los angeles county are reporting a little progress this morning. >> ahead of another santa ana wind event. it could further complicate efforts to try to contain the deadly fires and potentially fuel new ones. htre's a look at the 3 major fires, the largest and most threatening. still the palisades. it's burning more than 23,000 acres. only 13% contained. firefighters are making a little progress on that eaton fire, which is now 27% contained more than 14,000 acres have burned and at the hurst fire, 300 firefighters are now on the scene. it's now 89% contained. nearly 800 acres have burned there. the death toll from the california wildfires now stands at 24 crews have been using cadaver dogs trying to look for the missing. we're getting more

before. and after satellite photos of las angeles county. look at this. a huge area from the shore. the hundreds of neighborhoods have been damaged by the flames and smoke. now, let's talk about what happened in los angeles. police responding to a burglary call. this is around saturday morning at the brentwood home, a vp kamala harris, 2 men dressed in black, were detained and questioned. but later released the secret service also responded. 2 men were inside the evacuation zone while a curfew was in effect. it's not clear if anybody was at the home at the time. governor newsom issued an executive order aimed at trying to streamline the process of rebuilding homes and businesses. that means a wide range of building permit and reviews still needed for the projects are going to suspended, making it a lot easier and faster for people to get the help they need. the measure also extends laws against price gouging, building materials, construction costs, at least until next year. state agencies are also going to be empowered to find creative ways to try to streamline rebuilding and recovery efforts in la county.

california's national guard sending more than 2600 service members to la they're helping in that firefight. they're also going to help protect property against looters. >> we're here assisting cal fire with the wildfires down here in southern california. will be flying the ch. 47 chinook with a water bucket truck to the belly of it primarily will be doing pulling water out of reservoirs. dropping water on the fire were near the fire to slow it down. really. our intent is to buy calfire more time further down the road to make cuts. >> a national guard staging at an airport in ventura county. and they're going to be sitting out members from there, fire crews from all over the country. they've been helping try to contain the wildfires, including several crews from right here in the bay coverage. that moment has that story. >> of all the horrific scenes shown from the thousands of acres scorched and lives ruined by los angeles fires.

photos show with the panic and terror cemented into history. photos also show the heroism of firefighters from all over the country to kind of get in job to kind of help. >> so when you kind of have incidents like this, of the magnitude, you always want to go. you always want to go help. that includes crews from the bay area. >> a lot buddies back from back home are down here, but they're just keeping busy port carlos or to with cal fire czu. it's a song bird reunion. >> seeing his bay area colleagues battling the worst set of fires. the state has seen. >> in a couple of years. and then this is what we call over. zoom or test shows us the staging area for cal fire trailers for interviews, press conferences and meetings. he's very much like a miniature city port is job is going to grocery stores or wherever people congregate and give them vital information to keep themselves safe. >> and about the next face, now that the fires are just starting to get under control

mexico's president shared these photos of responding mexican firefighters shortly before they left for california. you see there holding the u.s. mexico and california flags. the team joins more than 14,000 personnel already on the ground. firefighters from canada are also on scene. ukraine's president is now offering his country's help in that fight in southern california. take a look. he says he's already instructed his diplomats start getting ready for ukraine's participation. roughly 150 firefighters are gonna be sent to la. joined crews who are already on the scene. and a little closer to home. a lot of bay area residents and businesses, they've got together to help out. they're sitting donated goods to people affected by the fires covers lindsey ford, winter donation site number hill. >> wildfire victims on their path to recovery after flames tore through homes and businesses in los angeles county. like so many organizations stepping in to

help 2 bay area, social media influencers. jesse kept rela and natalie marshall created clothing and toiletries donation site for those affected thinking like i will get some people to show up and >> we're at gridlock down to the highway. so the entire bay area has basically showed cars lined the streets to populate trader vic's in reveals parking lot. >> where the donations were dropped off at bring >> jackie is good for hearing how all the way la is inundated with donations. people are being so helpful. this 26 foot moving truck behind me will be delivering hundreds of items from baby clothes, toiletries bags and other goods to families that are affected by the la fires. manager. organizers estimate 65 southern california. families will be helped kapur. ellen marshals say they worked with several volunteer groups who will organize the items and send them to relief

centers in la to distribute to families. and they have lots of colleagues and friends who've had to evacuate. and many of my friends, schools and their children's schools have burned down. many of the people donating on sunday have family and friends who live in the los angeles area like megan maples who donated baby supplies like unused nursing covers and baby clothing. as a new mom, i can't imagine having everything that my family worked so hard for taking away. and so i i felt very just heartbroken that. >> so many families are just experiencing such heartache right now in virgina proper local business owner who collected and brought over hundreds of items within her to sprinter vans just like the fires, it spread just like that. that donations and that really makes my heart. i'm definitely on adrenaline right now. but my heart is just so open. the rest of the donations that did not make it on the 26 foot truck were sent to other local sites for

left behind. the san francisco spca is among the organizations heading south to help trying to create space for any rescue pets. the shelter is waiving adoption fees, words, puppies. there are also plenty of cats available. they are all spayed neutered microchipped and vaccinated. >> i doubt more strong winds across not just the bay but southern califoreia. really aggravating the current fire situation down there. in fact, extraordinary fire. danger continues. looking out here in the bay area. another crystal clear morning as these offshore winds have kick back up. we are looking at dry, offshore winds pushing the right into the bay today. and you can see that right here on storm tracker. 4, everything pushing out to the coastline in it a pretty accelerated clip. 2, we've already seen 50 mile per hour gusts out there for areas like the east bay hills gusts will regularly be 30 to 40 miles per hour. but at times exceeding 50 miles per hour yet again. now that,

of course, does result in some advisories. we do have a high wind ad%isories in the north bay mountains starting today, lasting through tomorrow morning into night is actually when we're expecting this offshore wind event really ushered in by this low to really escalate for southern california tonight into tomorrow morning will bring our very strong gusts of winds. and with that, you can see these fire danger, gradients really starting to spread areas of orange and red indicating absolutely critical fire danger in areas like los angeles around pacific palisades as well as in areas further southward to so this is going to be a next 24 to 48 hours here that are critical for southern california and that fire potential that just continues to expand because of these offshore wind smoke continues to be sent away from the coastline. so smoke is not an issue for us here in the bay area. it is sitting well off shore courtesy of the strong winds now 60's for daytime highs pretty solidly

across the board today. another day with warmer than average in drier than average conditions. this is a trend of weather. we've seen a lot this january so far it has resulted in fire, danger down self in just warm and dry weather for the bay 60's and hayward at 64 degrees. oakland at 62, same in walnut creek and concord. north bay temperatures also pretty solidly in the low to mid 60's today. let's look ahead to our next 7 days will continue to offer dry weather. temperatures do subtly cool down towards the tail end of the week today and tomorrow being windiest days. your forecast roadways this morning. absolutely nothing holding you up just yet, but very strong winds. we do have wind advisories on or bridges. so something to consider as you do, start morning commutes right now. all right, john, thank for that. mark making several changes in connection with the launch of construction to a moderate train control system. >> works gonna start tonight at 9 between coleman know ray

changes will also sing bar schedule with the region's other transit systems. also happening today in the south bay, santa clara valley, transportation authority. we'll make some schedule and route changes. new stops are going to be added to existing routes. some tweaks are going to come the certain schedules. most of the schedules are being adjusted to reflect changes and traffic conditions, including conditions to construction delays and passenger volume. so while it's going to be discontinued because of low ridership and a low budget, the next service change going to happen in april. amanda settled say was shot to death saturday night. this happened just after 10 aloma very dry. the man to be taken to the hospital where he died. police have not made any arrest and there are no details on a suspect. and south san francisco police are looking for the person who robbed a 50 year-old man. officers say this happened while the victim was walking onhe centennial way trail right near mission road last week. he's a man in his 40's, approached him shortly fore and demanded money. police say the victim

was not only wrong but also assaulted and he has facial injuries. sunday. the police say the arrest of 2 men connected to a deadly shooting in sunnyvale. this is nearly 7 years after it happened. vincent chavez and a gust and send charges murder after being accused of a shooting that happened. the fear old strip mall in 2017, one person was killed, another injured. the investigation went cold until detectives. we're able to identify the men last year. they were arrested a little earlier in the week. chp, they're looking for a missing young boy. this is 14 year know jones was last seen in hayward on friday. he's described as 5 foot 6 brown hair, brown eyes. get a good look at it. he's believed to be wearing a gray nike jacket with blue jeans and that any alert has been extended to alameda contra costa and san francisco counties. and the sunnyvale department of public safety. they're asking for help trying find the 76 year-old man. this is victor

garcia was last seen last week leave his home iris between 07:00pm wednesday at 11, 30 and thursday. authorities say that he is showing some signs of dementia if you have any information, you're urged to contact sunnyvale department of public safety. a los angeles county medical examiner is now saying 24 people have now died in those wildfires in southern california. and in washington, politicians are arguing over who's to blame. washington correspondent some lot joins us with the very latest is a sad story. the name. >> right. it is. and it's one of the most populated parts of this country. federal authorities are on the ground in california trying to help with the wildfire and the cleanup. but governor gavin newsom says he's concerned that the incoming trump administration may cut off federal funding. >> from above the california air national guard help support firefighters on the

ground. the la county medical examiner says 24 people have died. firefighters estimate the southern california wildfires destroyed more than 12,000 structures. we haven't seen that before. not not in southern california. not like this. california governor gavin newsom says it may be the worst disaster in u.s. history. i think it will be in terms of just the costs associated with it. while we at fema now are starting to help support this recovery piece last week, president joe biden moved quickly to declare a major federal disaster days before president elect donald trump is due to take office. trump wrote online california governor gavin newsom should resign. adding this is all his fault. there is a serious lack of competent governance in california. incoming vice president jd vance and republicans blamed california democrats for the destruction, policies of the liberal administration out there, i believe have made these fires worse. i suspected there will be strings attached to money

mountains. residents suspected might have started by fireworks. firefighters knocked down fairly quickly using helicopters. 6 days later, it's possible sparks reignited in the windy conditions. the los angeles fire department told the post it's not their practice to patrol sites of pacifiers. investigators say their work is ongoing and they won't comment. meantime, the winds expect to return. firefighters are preparing for the worst. jamie chambers has the latest on the palisades fire. >> over 4700 firefighters have poured into the pacific palisades fire fight representing 3 countries in 6 western states. all the while humidity has bounced back slightly. there is still no de-escalation from rescuers pre positioning for crews all over the edges of the palisades fire is in progress has more dangerous weather looms. so there is a red flag warning in effect for this area. >> until 06:00pm wednesday, we're expecting north northeast wind gusts anywhere from 35 to 55 miles per hour.

fire chief link the phenomenon to the dust swirls that could be seen on a baseball field. 5 tornadoes are considered fairly rare. the palisades fire has been especially difficult to contain because of the combination of high winds and the dry weather. the fbi released photos showing a civilian drone damage in a super scooper firefighting plane. this happened at the scene of the palisades fire. the impact leaving a hole in the plane's wing forcing it down to the ground. it the fbi is asking for any help. if you can identify a suspect, they've recovered parts of that drone. the plane is going back in service today. drone flights over wildfires, of course, are illegal. the former child actor, a motivational speakers. one of the people who died in the palace aides, wildfire. this is 32 year-old rory sykes. he died in his cottage on his family's malibu property. house mother says he even born blind and has cerebral palsy. but he went on to achieve amazing things. she says she frantically tried to help. she couldn't get through to 9-1-1.

why reeva says lawmakers in his chamber are in the process of authoring new legislation, he says will assist fire victims, including one bill to expedite insurance claims for impacted homeowners. it comes amid california's home insurance crisis. >> in the last year and a half 7 of the 12 major home insurance companies in california, including allstate, state farm and farmers insurance have either limited their business within the state or in some cases stop selling new policies altogether for homeowners living in some of california's most fire prone areas. that resulted in some californians struggling to find any insurance coverage at all. a key requirement to carry a mortgage from home. for their part. insurance companies have said they have no other choice but to pause or stop selling policies out of concerns. they could face huge losses. should a major disaster like a wildfire destroyed homes and at-risk communities. this has been an ongoing crisis in california. exacerbated now.

>> good morning and thanks for joining us on a monday. i'm darya and james got a lot to talk to the winds. i don't. if you noticed i saw the signs on the bay bridge high wind warning. i heard that, but i heard a little high pitched and i thought was that that sound that the bridge means the golden gate makes whistling sound drive better. that could have been excited to have the whistle where i was and that nowhere near the bridge. hey, we are looking out there at what is a another offshore wind event this week for us in the bay area. it's a nuisance for southern california. it is a huge threat for further growth of those fires down south. we are seeing those strong winds as well. but here in the bay little momentary com at the embarcadero, my last time i showed you this view, those flags were just pushing in that strong wind. we've already seen 50 mile per hour. plus gusts in areas like the east bay hills gusts right now anywhere between 20 to 30 miles per hour. we're definitely seeing high wind advisories in the north bay. wouldn't be surprised to see these expanded for
