>> good morning and thanks for joining us on a monday. i'm darya and james got a lot to talk to the winds. i don't. if you noticed i saw the signs on the bay bridge high wind warning. i heard that, but i heard a little high pitched and i thought was that that sound that the bridge means the golden gate makes whistling sound drive better. that could have been excited to have the whistle where i was and that nowhere near the bridge. hey, we are looking out there at what is a another offshore wind event this week for us in the bay area. it's a nuisance for southern california. it is a huge threat for further growth of those fires down south. we are seeing those strong winds as well. but here in the bay little momentary com at the embarcadero, my last time i showed you this view, those flags were just pushing in that strong wind. we've already seen 50 mile per hour. plus gusts in areas like the east bay hills gusts right now anywhere between 20 to 30 miles per hour. we're definitely seeing high wind advisories in the north bay. wouldn't be surprised to see these expanded for other parts

of the bay area were also under some frost advisories for the inland east bay in particular. double. and you're down at 39 degrees right now. some 40's and 50's for most of the rest of us today is going to be another mild day with crystal clear skies. no fog anywhere in sight. highs in the 60's. >> right now. all right. on the eve battle cables, high wind advisories. make sure you take easy. if you are traveling over those bridges. 10 minutes on the bay bridge. no major delays there. but again, high winds. so just be cautious along richmond, sandra fell while the golden gate in 19 minutes. darya. james, back to you. thank you. now let's get to the fires in southern california. they are reporting some progress in the firefight ahead of another santa ana wind event. as john was talking about, the winds are whipping up and that could further complicate containing these deadly fires. and there is a higher death toll this morning. there is. 24 people confirmed killed in these major fires that ha been burning. the 3 biggest on your screen right now.

>> the largt continues to be the palisades fire. that's that one towards the bottom 23,000 acres. so far, 13% containment. that containment numbers growing. but we're still a long way away. firefighters are making better progress on the eaton fire. that was 27% contained more than 14,000 acres has burned. and then there's the hurst fire about 300 firefighters on the scene of that one. that fire is actually about 89% contained at nearly 800 acres in size. and as you said, james, the death toll is 24 crews have been using cadaver dogs. >> to search for those who are missing. but again, with more than 10,000 structures burned. they have not got into of the most of them. exactly. so they're saying, unfortunately, you that we need to be prepared that the toll could rile up. yeah, we know crews from all over the country have been coming in to try and help battle. >> those blazes including several crews from right here in the bay area. and crawford's jack moment has more on that part of the

story. of all the horrific scenes shown from the thousands of acres scorched and lives ruined by los angeles fires. >> photos show with the panic and terror cemented into history. photos also show the heroism of firefighters from all over the country to kind of get in job to kind of help. >> so when you kind of have incidents like this. of the magnitude, you alwayswant to go. you always want to go to. >> that includes crews from the bay area. >> a lot buddies back from back home are down here, but they're just keeping busy port carlos or to with cal fire czu. it's a song bird reunion seeing his bay area colleagues battling the worst set of fires. the state has seen. >> in a couple of years. and then this is what we call over. zoom or test shows us the staging area for cal fire trailers for interviews, press conferences and meetings. very much like a miniature city port is job is going to

grocery stores or wherever people congregate and give them vital information to keep themselves safe. >> and about the next face, now that the fires are just starting to get under control was a fire runs through. it's important for us to be able to give the right information for the people when they start to repopulate. so everything gets done right in orderly fashion. and that next phase includes coming home for thousands, knowing many of those won't have a home to return to it all. >> it's like the national guard and dozens of fire departments all helping the cause. the damage here will be felt for generations. the unknowns are up. >> pretty scary. crews are having a cautious mindset, though, knowing increasingly intense weather events are becoming the norm. are changing. >> but we just got to be fluid and change with them and it will be fine. >> jacques moment kron, 4 news. >> well, for many people living in santa rosa's coffey park. don't forget the devastating wildfires in southern california bringing up a lot of memories for them of their own losses. they

expect triggers what they went through back in october of 2017 when a deadly wildfire ripped through the north bay community destroying hundreds of homes. kron four's will tran is in santa rosa with more on the experience that they're having will. >> by the time the tubbs fire was out to destroy approximately 5600 structures. coffey park is just right down the road and so many people fled to this coffee shop right behind me. congregated share their stories, made sure that their families and friends were okay absolutely this whole experience in la has been triggering. let's show you video of the tubbs fire. as daria mentioned, it broke out in october of 2017 and just like los angeles, strong winds just whipped through this place. i remember being here in the overnight hours just hours after it started and seeing the mass evacuations and the firefighters rushing through

this area telling people to get out for the people in the coffey park neighborhood. some got a knock at the door. most just looked outside and told themselves they had to go. i distinctively remember a woman saying to me when we were here to report, she got as much as she could into her car. looked in the rearview mirror and could not believe the huge orange fireball that was so close to her as she was rushing out of her neighborhood. so you can imagine can relate to los angeles. i got a chance to talk to a man. he said, count your blessings. >> obviously fires a horrible, horrible thing that that takes place and having survived 3 out of 4 years of fires up here in sonoma county. you know, the biggest thing that i can share with everybody is is really count your blessings. in other words, you know, you may lose your house. your neighbor may lose their house, but how's your family? how your friends, what can you do to make a difference now in their lives? but really what?

what what truly is is is what you've lost. so, you know, 6 months a year later, i can tell you after going through all the fires up here, the biggest thing was just knowing all the great stories that took place, all the winds. >> and those winds, even if they're far and few between james and area, he said they matter a lot. and even when they we're able to return to their homes and his home was intact, even though he had to be evacuated. he said if you might recall about 7 months later, there was so much rain that the mudslides went through their neighborhood as well. so they took a beating for years at coffey park in santa rosa. and coming up at 7 o'clock, we will continue to hear from them and their words of wisdom to the la victims. back to will. thank you very much. and our parent company nexstar is partnering with the red cross to if you want to help, we are raising money. >> for the wildfire victims and you can scan this qr code

and it will show you exactly make it very easy for you to join in and help. we will continue our look at what's going on in southern california are on the kron 4 morning news, but also you can go to our website and online. we've got all the very latest on the acreage structures burned ways you can help the firefight and everything else that's going on down. >> all right. on to other headlines this morning and happening today, san jose has begun temporarily banning rv's in designated parts of the city joey horta is live now with what is being targeted. joey? >> good morning to both of the first rv's could be towed out of here as early as today. there are about 20 of them here. a long chat with avenue and the folks in these rv's got their notices within the last week that they need to get out of here. more than 2000 people are living in rv's and similar vehicles across the city, according to the city and the solution i city council, is that the that they have now this oversized in

lived vehicle enforcement or all of program? they've been having that since november council set aside one and a half million dollars to remove the rv's mayor mahan saying that they're holding people accountable and that neighbors deserve a break from seeing these vehicles taking over their streets. some have been here park for years now. >> rv and want to live in it permanently will work with you. but you need to find a sustainable permanent place to live in rv. >> according to the city, the rv's bring noise, trash fires and sometimes crime is section it when channel with avenue rather is the first of 30 locations where the ban will be enforced. the city will target a new location every week. we're told the next one would be boynton avenue which they'll begin targeting next weekend. they say when the vehicles are removed, we'll start to clean up the streets. we did see police officers out here a few minutes ago. it did

respond to one of the rv's, although they would not tell us what that call was about. back to you. okay, joey, thank you very much. meantime, santa clara county is looking for volunteers to help people with counting. >> those who are experiencing homelessness that county 2025 count is going to happen the week of january 22nd and 23rd that weekend volunteers will go out and survey people experiencing homelessness. and as for some demographic information to better get a handle on the living situation there. information, if you would like to volunteer is on the county's website. >> in san jo, unfortunately a man was shot and killed over the weekend. it happed ju a little after 10:00pm on loma drive. that mn wataken to the hospital where he later died. police have not made any arrests. and at this point, there are no details yet regarding a suspect. petaluma residents might not be able to call 9-1-1 because of a problem with the phone service. att customers are apparently being affected.

authorities say if you can't call 9-1-1, you should call the number that we have here on the screen. you can kind of see that over my shoulder. there's no estimate yet on when the service will fixed. but will let you know when we find out happening today. santa rosa city schools are going to have the first of 5 town hall meetings. >> to discuss the possibility of school closures. let's take a look at the town halls in case you want to attend one. this is when they're happening. tonights is from 6 happening. tonights is from 6 to 7.30, montgomery high santa 20 million dollar deficit and they say it may be necessary to close or consolidate some schools. the town halls are a way for parents and students and teachers to weigh in. learn about the plan, discussed possibilities and how to solve this problem that the district is facing. the information is available in english and spanish at these town hall meetings, santa rosa city schools. they are the largest school district in

6.14, is the timing here for things to know today as the deadly palisades fire rages on, thousands of families remain evacuated. >> thousands more preparing to leave at a moment's notice. residents suspected was started by fireworks were waiting for that investigation

to continue. meanwhile, a former child actor and motivational speaker unfortunately one of the people who died in the palisades fire. 32 year-old rory sykes died in his cottage his family's malibu property. his mother says he'd been born blind and has cerebral palsy. she says she had frantically tried to get help but couldn't get through to 9-1-1. that day. the fbi has released photos showing a civilian drone. the damage i should say, caused by a civilian drone against what's called a super scooper firefighting plane. it happened at the scene of the palisades fire. the impact left a hole in the plane's wing forcing it to be grounded. and as people fled the flames in southern california, many pets were left behind in the san francisco spca is among the many organizations helping in that effort to find care for them to create space for any rescue pets. the shelter is waiving adoption fees right now for their current inventory. puppies. there are also plenty of cats available too. all are spayed and neutered. they're microchipped and they've all been vaccinated.

from us. also resulting in very dry, low humidity conditions into the afternoon. it again feeling a little warmer than average as we move into the afternoon today, gusts of wind around 20 to 30 miles per hour regularly. peak gusts in excess of 50 miles per hour have already had gust in the east bay hills in excess of 50 miles an hour. we do have high wind advisories for the north bay mountains. wouldn't be surprise to see these expanded wind warnings and red flag warnings for southern california has a very similar set up to last week prompts these dry, offshore wind santa anas for the southern part of the state. and that is upping your fire danger with those areas of yellow, orange and red on the map, expanding. those are your heightened fire danger, gradients with critical fire danger for southern california. still very much the reality smoke continues to be sent well offshore. those strong offshore winds are keeping smoke out in the pacific. no impact from smoke. back here at home in the bay. temperatures are in the 60's for pretty much everyone that

includes the city, the coast, the bayshore and our inland areas. this is above average for this time of year. and we're certainly drier than average as well. we'll continue to remain that way for the rest of the month. likely san jose at 66 today, dublin, oakland, both at 62 for your highs. concord in castro valley at 63 sonoma and napa. both that 62 while santa rosa in petaluma both at 63 today. looking ahead tomorrow, wednesday, thursday, very similar temperature wise to today after tomorrow morning winds will calm down. good news, especially for southern neighbors this weekend, more dry weather will be in a little bit cooler rania. >> starting out with a lot more green than red. so that's good news. moving at the limit along 5 88 82 oakland along the peninsula and a little further in the east bay along 6.80, 14 minutes on the bay bridge right now, meteor lights are on. and remember, johnson talk about those high

winds. so high profile vehicles. take it easy. delong over summer felony. if you're going to take the san mateo bridge, they're still moving at the limit along there. and 29 minutes. so i want to one 85 to them. apart to 80 82. i'm not seeing any major delays. there james, back to you. thank you. ran a 6.18. is the time right now in the east bay, an investigation into an alleged unlicensed smoke shop in oakland. >> led to products being seized, illegal stuff. take a look in oakland what they recover data smoke shop on san pablo avenue. these are all prohibited flavored tobacco products, cannabis and psychedelic mushrooms. and police also recovered a stolen forklift that was used in a burglary in 2022. there it is. last month the oakland police inspected that shop and they found it didn't have licenses to sell tobacco and cannabis. the case has now been directed to the alameda county da. >> well, let's continue with our coverage of those wildfires in los angeles

county. and this particular story lost angeles. police responded to a burglary call saturday morning at the brentwood home office. brentwood home of vice president kamala harris. 2 men dressed in black were detained and questioned. they were later released. the secret service also responded. the 2 men were inside the vacation for the evacuation zone while a curfew was in effect, not clear if anybody was in the home at the time. meantime, governor gavin newsom has issued an executive order now aimed at streamlining the process of rebuilding homes and businesses. it means that a wide range of building permits and reviews needed for projects will be suspended, making it a little easier and faster for people to get help. the measure also extends laws against price gouging for building materials and construction costs until next year. state agencies will also be empowered to find creative ways to streamline rebuilding and recovering efforts. there in la county. meanwhile, california's national guard is sending more than 2600 service members there to la they're

helping in the firefighting effort, obviously, but they'll also help protect property against looters. >> we're here assisting cal fire with the wildfires down here in southern california will be flying the ch. 47 chinook with a water bucket truck to the belly of it primarily will be doing pulling water out of reservoirs, dropping water on the fire were near the fire to slow it down. really. our intent is to buy calfire more time further down the road to make cuts. >> well, the national guard is staging at an airport in ventura county and they'll be sending out members from there. >> the los angeles county medical examiner says that 24 people have now been identified as dying in the wildfires. and again, we are just bracing for the fact that that could get worse. this time number could go up in washington. politicians are arguing over who's to blame before the fires even out washington correspondent than a simple act. joining us live with the latest

>> chains. daria, federal officials are on the ground in california helping with the fire and the recovery efforts. >> but while all of this is happening, governor gavin newsom says he's concerned the incoming trump administration may cut off federal aid to california. >> from above the california air national guard help support firefighters on the ground. the la county medical examiner says 24 people have died. firefighters estimate the southern california wildfires destroyed more than 12,000 structures. we haven't seen that before. not not in southern california. not like this. california governor gavin newsom says it may be the worst disaster in u.s. history. i think it will be in terms of just the costs associated with it. while we at fema now are starting to help support this recovery piece last week, president joe biden moved quickly to declare a major federal disaster days before president elect donald trump is due to take office.

>> we're back at 6.25. in a san diego woman who worked as a ringleader of an organized retail theft operation was recently sentenced. michelle mack was found to be guilty of leading at retail crime ring that spanned 21 california counties, including 8 bay area counties from alameda to sonoma counties. the california department of justice says that mcintyre accomplices stole 8 million dollars worth of beauty products. she worked with her

>> 6.29 right now we get up so early that when i first got up, it was calm and then the wind picked on you know, to john, john's been looking at those wind is this is the week we're expecting to get strong winds here in the bay. yeah, in tonight into tomorrow morning we are looking at some of the very strong gusts. i mean, we've already seen 50 mile per hour gusts overnight up in the east bay hills. so this is very dramatic winds and moving offshore. so these here, dry winds that are upping fire danger down south. currently seeing a pretty steady breeze there at the embarcadero flag moving around a little bit. this offshore wind right now around 20 to 30 miles per hour. you'll notice it on your bridge crossings and your mountain passes. we have these high wind advisories in the north bay mountains all the way through tomorrow morning would not be surprised to see more of them popping up on the map in the next few hours. temperature wise, we're in the 30's 40's

and 50's. we also have a frost advisory for the inland east bay due to just how chilly temperatures are for a lot of us to start this week. now into the afternoon temperatures right back to the 60's. you've probably enjoyed some of these really mild afternoons lately and no shortage of them to come. rain wind on the eve of that was very gusty this morning from a traveling on the bay bridge. >> if you are going to commuting across our bridges, high profile vehicles definitely drive much lower. 19 minutes there, mateo bridge or at 15 while your richness in refill to don up a little bit 13 minute and the golden gate bridge 30, some of the tolls 20 minute ride darya. james, back to you. thank you. reyna 6.32, people are dead and one person is in the hospital. there was a triple shooting friday night know happened on telegraph avenue and 55th street at community center crawford check moment explains what happened. >> residents here on telegraph avenue described a pretty gruesome scene here on friday evening just after 10:00pm

where police say 2 people were killed and one was injured in a triple shooting. >> it still left after oakland's 4th and 5th homicides of 2025. left this block of telegraph avenue you people crying props. are that work right here. >> see right here in the senate which years ago, 9 this. that is not a single blade. and i police say they responded to the shooting just after 10 in evening, 2 were dead on the scene. the other person transported to a local hospital and is listed in stable condition. neighbors say police with their until 3 or 4 in the morning and the shooting originated at a community center located in this building where a party was hosted. we reached out to that community center and have yet to hear back. but when walking by the community center saturday, people inside the building told us no comment. but i came up from san jose last night and i want something enough. we have the whole area cordoned off taped off. and mean, it was a body.

lynn, we tested. chandler says the most striking part was how young the victims court. he says this part of oakland is normally safe but says crime flows into this neighborhood from lake merritt. and it's starting to make him concern. >> it does quite often in the middle tonight walking the dogs. also. it's been pretty safe up into the past year. but, you know, things happen. you know, you just have to be cautious when you're outside at night time. that's all i can say to just a tragedy. you know, such a life cut down. other people say the crime has continuously ramped up here. but awful long time, what your kids, what else? she's sweeping new police car. they see the >> a homeless guy didn't know half of >> the oakland police officers association told kron 4 in a statement there is a crime surge occurring in oakland as the city council has continued to cut police services, too many hard-working innocent residents and businesses are being victimized by criminals to see that police are short staffed. we reached out to oakland police for more information on a possible

arrest and more details on the victims but have yet to hear back reporting in oakland jack moment. kron 4 news. >> a 2 days after that shooting,a2 people were shot on garfield avenue near eanmall. that's where police found evidence tt there was a shooting yesterday morning and then later, they found the victims who had kethemseles too. a local hospital. the people who were shot are listed in critical but stable condition. police don't have a suspect yet. sunnyvale police have arrested 2 people for a deadly shooting that happened in sunnyvale and it happened 7 years ago. and just now they made the arrests of in center. i and augustine sandoval and they are accused of murder for a shooting that happened at the fair oaks strip mall in 2017. one person was killed and another person was injured. that investigation was cold until detectives we're able to identify those suspects last year and they were just arrested last week.

>> 6.34 is the time. let's continue our coverage of those deadly wildfires in southern california. now as the palisades fire rages on, the thousands of families are still evacuated. thousands more are prepared to leave at any moment. the washington post now reporting that that fire the palisades fire was very likely the result of a new year's eve. fire in the santa monica mountains firefighters are preparing for the worst. well, the residents suspected it was started by fireworks. that's their thinking. firefighters knocked it down fairly quickly. using helicopters when it initially broke out with 6 days later. it's possible that sparks reignited when those winds started really impacting the hills there, the los angeles fire department told the post it's not their practice to patrol sites of past fires. investigators say their work is ongoing so they won't comment any further. meantime, the winds are expected to return and firefighters are again preparing for the worst.

morgan hill start-up is leading their lending. i should say a hand to the wildfires there in la county with a new kind of fire suppressant. so komodo fire systems is shipping out there. suppressants spray. you see examples of here. the company says this product uses natural chemicals and it's nontoxic. they also say that product not only extinguishes the fire, but it also prevents it from spreading, although they're still working on getting statewide agencies like cal fire and local goternments to use their product. they do say that pg e is agreeing to use it. >> they use it to protect their assets. whether it is a power station, whether it is a battery maybe a poll, a power pole. >> right now, the company says they're still working on ways to get airplanes to drop loads of this fire retardant onto the wildfires. they can do that. they say other agencies would be more willing to use this new product.

>> time now 6.36, and a lot of residents and businesses have joined forces in the east bay to help, but they are giving donated goods to help the people who are affected by the fires in southern cal cross lindsey ford actually visited the donation site in emeryville. >> wildfire victims on their path to recovery after flames tore through homes and businesses in los angeles county. like so many organizations stepping in to help. >> 2 bay area, social media influencers. jesse kept rela and natalie marshall created clothing and toiletries donation site for those affected thinking like i will get some people to show up and >> we're at gridlock down to the highway. so the entire bay area has basically showed cars lined the streets to populate trader vic's in reveals parking lot. >> where the donations were dropped off. let's bring dog. >> jackie is good for hearing all the way la is inundated with donations. people are being so helpful. this 26 foot

>> well, in south san francisco, police now looking for the person who robbed a 50 year-old man. officers say it happened while the victim was walking on centennial way trail right near mission road last week. th say a man in his 40's approached him shortly before 08:00pm tuesday and demanded money. police say the victim was not only robbed but also assaulted and has facial injuries as a result. to the north bay. the sonoma county board of supervisors voted to protect the rights of undocumented immigrants in the county supervisors voted to limit the use of county money and resources to enforce federal immigration laws. data shows that about 27,000 sonoma county residents are undocumented immigrants. the resolution directs county departments and employees to comply with state law which limits sharing of information about an individual's immigration status with immigration and customs enforcement except in the case of convicted of those convicted of serious or violent felonies. the resolution says in part,
