inauguration is on monday. dc is very busy preparing right now from the secret service to the fbi to capitol police agencies are putting security plans into action to get ready for that huge event. our washington, d.c., correspondent hannah brandt has details. >> all around washington, d.c.. you can see signs that the city is preparing for inauguration. every 4 years. our city supports the peaceful transition of power. we are proud of that responsibility. but those leading security for the inauguration say this year poses larger challenge is what's different is what we are in a hi higher threat environment and secret service. special agent matt mccool says they've responded by beefing up this inauguration security plan that includes setting up security screening checkpoints, fencing and concrete barriers. plus they'll have surveillance drones and thousands of officers from various law enforcement teams on patrol. this all-star team is working to keep everyone safe while minimizing disruptions to the public as much as possible. the secret service is expecting hundreds of

thousands of people here in the nation's capitol on inauguration day. some in celebration. >> others in protest and they're setting up 30 miles of fencing like this to try to keep things under control. >> we're hopeful that that will keep any of the protests from getting too close to the capitol. the fbi says so they've not identified any credible threats to the inauguration, but capitol police chief jay thomas manger says they're keeping a close watch. biggest threat i think for for all of us remains the lone actor. he says just last week at services honoring late president jimmy carter. police stopped 2 different threats from lone actors with just a week to go to inauguration. law enforcement leaders say they're ready. we are 100% confident. >> and the plan that we have put in place for this inauguration that the public protectees will be safe in washington. i'm hannah brandt. >> still ahead here at noon, why offering relief to those are the front line of southern california fires.

>> if you want to hang out around the starbucks, you're going to have to buy something the coffee chain has announced it is reversing its open door policy. kron four's will tran is in walnut creek with the story. starbucks open door policy that was enacted in 2018 is effectively slam shot. >> because moving forward, you can go into starbucks. they would love your money. that hasn't changed to. what's going to change is if you are staying there for an extended period or if you're going to the bathroom, guess what? that's going to cost you something at the very least, a cup of coffee because they say
12:46 pm
moving forward, that's their policy. remember the days where you would have to get a code from them that might be the case moving forward because they say this is for the betterment of their coffee community, that they don't want people hanging around all day. >> without spending money or going to the bathroom. now the open door policy actually started in philadelphia 7 years ago when 2 african-american men, they were waiting for a business partner to arrive. they did not order or anything they wanted to wait for the partner to arrive. but in the meantime, if they were harassed, they say there were racial overtones where police officers were actually involved. and that's when starbucks said, let's do the open door policy. 7 years running effectively over right now, we got a chance to talk to some customers. many they don't like it. let me play starbucks their version. they might say, well, michelle toilet paper costs money, water costs, money we're going
12:47 pm
to have to charge what he they make enough money on their coffee. come on. i mean, i'm a starbucks customer. i have the app and i use their stars in the whole bit. but >> they make more than enough money to to be able to afford some pieces of paper and a little bit of a flash. he that's within their right to do it. but i mean, >> it sounds like you're not a ethically. i think, you know, it be nice to really be able to go into the service. you know if you need to go to the bathroom, if you're thinking that starbucks is leading the charge in all of this, they say that's not the case that they're actually doing what many other restaurants have been doing and continue to do that. if you go into other restaurants, the use, the bathroom, they also expect you to buy something. so starbucks is doing the same thing and they are training their employees on how to handle it. and if it gets out of hand. >> those employees could end

up calling police officers like they did back in 2018. >> all right. we're taking a live look outside right now. and here at fall june. we're going to check in now with meteorologist kyla grogan to see what's going on out there their staff. but i would start with tonight because if you see the little friend last night, it was beautiful. all right. let's send it back to you. welcome back to you in a second, because i do want to hear about that moon, the full moon and what's going to look like. but for now, we're going to go to what california officials and businesses are doing to. >> help out during the deadly maui wildfires. and now hawaii wants to return the favor. reporter stephen florino has the story. >> when the heinl was destroyed by fire, hawaii officials say california was there to help. they say now is our turn to do the same. >> we're going to try to do a lot to support los angeles. and the reason is because
12:49 pm
first we care about people, but also they supported us california support as a great deal. we went through wildfire disaster. >> when these fires are out, some hawaii hotels will offer packages for first responders from california like firefighters, police and emergency services personnel that would be severely discounted or even free. >> we have a very close, a cultural, economic social relationship us. and so it's a natural step to see how we can acknowledge those heroes on the front line. >> after the fires over an option or a possibility come to hawaii, spent some time here at a very, very discounted rate because, you know, they're going through a lot right now. and we we to a certain extent because of what happened on the high >> hawaii hotels did the same for local first responders during covid with hotels for heroes and then extended the offer to healthcare workers as well. i was safe. >> 40% of mainland business comes from california. maybe

even a little more from the west coast. so is it going to impact the travel to you know, probably no doubt. officials say hawaii understands will california is going through right now. >> and hawaii knows how to show aloha. that's what we're known for. always always had this compassionate. >> i feel that people always talk about when they come here. they go back home talk about it. some more. >> tokyo kuz says governor green has already spoken to california governor gavin newsom about ways to help. and tokyo has a counterpart in california. he's working with no. remember this. the government in california will remember this. and however, however, they can support us going forward. i'm sure they will, because they always have. >> still ahead here at noon in the face of darkness, communities are coming together and items spot. could have been lost forever coming to life.

>> are we gonna go back that's going on in that? the full moon it that's tonight. there was a lot. it was last night also them. but i'm putting it out tonight because we're going to another clear night out there. that does mean we're going to have more chilly temperatures out there as well. right now, no frost advisory will see if that goes up later this aftern.on. but if you didn't see them, unless i think you're gonna get a great chance tonight again, too. >> as far as the chilly temperatures are concerned, they are here to stay for the next few days. here you can see we're rolling in the 30's for those inland wind, sheltered valleys could get even cooler than that. so be ready for it. beautiful, though, today as we take a live look here from the berkeley hills, seeing all the way across the bay to the golden gate bridge. just

beautiful visibility. temperatures are warming up. we are at 60 degrees in san jose. 53 in alameda concord, 57 same store in san francisco about 57 degrees. and we're rolling into some nice low 60's up in the north bay as well. so another day that is off to a good start for us here after a chilly start, a little bit of wind but negligible. so we don't have any issues with that today. you can see we've even last a little bit of the offshore component storm tracker showing you just gorgeous blue skies. the clouds are well off shore. in fact, take a look at this. you can really see that arc of high pressure, that ridge that has built in as you see the clouds that are shooting right over the top of us and headed for places like portland and seattle. we are in what's called a rex block. this is a blocking pattern where high-pressure and low-pressure stack on top of each other and until one of them moves, we really don't see any changes. now. this is not great for what's happening in southern california because you can see this gradient coming together here this evening. that does kind of shoot that offshore wind and make things a little bit more difficult. but eventually as
12:55 pm
we get later into thursday, that low pressure moves away. that will break the wind gradient that will help southern california. and we, of course, will be keeping the high pressure, which is meaning that we're going to say, see, you know, sunshine and some beautiful skies out there. so cool nights when we got the clear skies. but lots of sunshine as we head across the next 7 days, few clouds roll in on our saturday and sunday will cool it down to average temperatures heading into next week. all right. thanks. kyla. now to a heartfelt story in the midst of devastation in southern california. a missing wedding ring was discovered in the rubble rubble of a home. >> that was destroyed by the flames. victoria desantis says it was like finding a needle in a haystack. cal fire firefighters found the ring on the roof. desantis says it made her heart very happy after she lost everything else in the wildfire. she says she only had seconds to evacuate when the flames roared through her neighborhood last week. and now the marin, humane

very transformative time for rock music with genres like progressive rock, hard rock and others emerging from this decade. so on this day in the bay, a popular english rock band that would transform popular culture came to the bay area. so we have footage from our archives here because on this day in 1978, the pistols played live on stage at the winterland ballroom in san francisco. winterland was an ice skating rink at a music venue. one poston steiner before being converted solely to a music venue by concert promoter bill graham. the pistols very influential. they inspired punk post-punk alternative rock musicians and they were introduced into the rock and roll hall of fame in 2006. but of course, in park, frank faction, they didn't go
