3:21 pm
friday and potentially into saturday as well before we have any other wind to deal with. so right now you can see the red flag warnings pretty pervasive. they go until 6 o'clock on wednesday. and then there is that particularly dangerous situation that is basically parts of ventura county and west la county. and that is also now through 06:00pm on wednesday. so that's really the time frame that things are going to hopefully get better. what's happening right now as high pressure is just nudged right above low pressure and you see those to kind of squeeze together. and unfortunately with that, he's done as created another stream of that offshore wind to keep rolling because you've got that counter clockwise circulation there around low pressure. so it has exacerbated the problems today and tomorrow you can see where these numbers are very high as we begin to roll into this evening, we stay breezy and we have the same thing as you wake up tomorrow morning. so this is about 08:45am. and you see some of these gusts, upwards of 35 40 miles per hour. it isn't until later in the day. so now this is about 7 o'clock at night. this is when you'll start to see the turn, the change of those winds starting to pull back a bit. and that leaves us on

thursday morning in a very different position than we're in now. so and things get a little bit better. even as we head into that day. so it's really going to be a difficult run for the next 24 to 48 hours. obviously air-quality is an issue. you can see air quality alert that is up not just here in southern california. really rolls all the way over to palm springs and towards that arizona border as well. be back in a little bit. we'll talk more about our local forecast and there are tens of thousands of people still under evacuation orders because of the fires. kron four's. rob nesbitt has been talking with. residents were still unable to go back to their homes. >> the meantime, they're staying here in the bay area. >> over the weekend, some people who had to be evacuated from their neighborhoods in southern california were given the green light to go back to their homes. but many have been advised to stay away from areas like the palisades and altadena because there are still active fires. nearly a week after the first place started. one of those families is tell for. thompson's parents were evacuated. their altadena home around 02:00am wednesday drove maybe a block and a half and saw flames.

these bottlenecks create congestion in both directions that can sometimes last for hours. >> recognizing how important this route is through thousands of commuters each day caltrans has spent years developing a plan to improve the traffic flow here. >> it's a very important thoroughfare no shortage of citizens in the bay area. >> to that end, they plan to improve the intersection of highway 37 1.21. replace the bridge over to lake creek and to add new lanes in both the east and westbound directions in order to raise the funds needed to maintain this route in the future. they're also considering making this portion of 37 a tolling. but a final decision has not yet been made. the jury still out very much. it's a it's like i said, open for public public comment until february 3rd, but nothing has been decided. as of now the project is budgeted at 430 million dollars and would be paid for with a mix of federal and state grants. finally, caltrans says that all goes well, construction on this project. >> could begin next year. but for now in the north bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news.
