responsible an official cause for the fire is still unclear. there's continued concern tonight. the california's wildfire recovery could face political challenges and republican led washington. there's been talk of adding conditions to future aid kron four's. catherine heenan is in the newsroom with more on that. catherine? yeah, this this continues. >> with donald trump about to take office, a group of house republicans and the president elect have talked about tying wildfire aid to certain conditions. it was the subject of conversation, for example, at mar-a-lago sunday night. what happens tomorrow, although some tension just monologue. california senator alex padilla does not like the republican rumblings he's been hearing about future wildfire age of california. we've had disasters over the years. >> and united states of america, every region of the country has been impacted. >> at one time or another and never has been come with

strings attached or been conditional. leading republicans have been suggesting that california fix certain policies in exchange for billions of dollars in federal aid. >> they criticize democratic leaders on policies involving forest and water management. for example, no one wants to leave any american who is in need. >> hanging so to speak. this is not politics. we need sound public policy. california officials say the demand for resources like water was simply too high to sudden. >> its territory. trump and governor newsom have tangled over before they talked about things like forest management during trump's visit to california in 2018, another time of devastating wildfires. but now democrats are calling the latest talk over aid with strings attached, unacceptable. this is what east bay congressman eric swalwell told kron 4 today. >> it's never been done before you don't screw with people

when they are hurting the most in need government. and by the way, it would be foolish for any member of congress to do this because california is the largest delegation in the country. and so if you lose california, if you lose the 50 plus members of congress in california. good luck passing relief aid. you know what other states need it. so it would be so list to try and politicize something that has always been about, you know, helping distributing the aid where it's needed. the most. >> among the options for approving a that are being considered tying it to a debt limit extension or including it in a government funding bill. meantime, congress did approve 110 billion and disaster relief money back in december. so fema does have enough for immediate grant and vicki. all right, catherine, thank you for that. well, it's been exactly a week since those fire started in southern california. and a new poll out shows how registered voters

feel about. >> the governor's response, our capitol correspondent eytan wallace gives us a closer look. southern california reels from the devastating and deadly fires. governor gavin newsom remains on the ground in the fire zone responding to the here in altadena. >> a community completely ravaged. and now this poll from emerson college shows of 1000 registered voters surveyed across the country, 30% approve of the governor's response to the fires. while 42% do not another 28% are either neutral or undecided. loyola law school professor jessica levinson weighing very understandably people, blaine leadership sometime fairly sometimes not at this point. i think it's too soon to say. >> we know what happened and we know who to blame. do you think? >> how he handles this could impact him down the road politically. i think if people ultimately find that there's something that the state of california could have done to help prevent or mitigate these

wildfires. >> that will be a huge problem for governor newsom and his political ambitions. but the poll showing there is widespread agreement over one major issue. climate change. well, good morning, everybody on this next. our digital show exploring the poor results next. our digital host, chip brewster emerson college polling director spencer kimball and inside california politics host nicky lorenzo noted nearly 60% of respondents said climate change contributed to the fire's this time. last year we had an atmosphere river and california. so we had. >> a deluge of rain. here like dealing with historic fires. do climate is definitely something that it's a topic of discussion, even of a months. republicans here in the state nationwide, two-thirds of respondents feel the united states is headed in the wrong direction. while one-third feel it's going in the right direction when president biden came into office, it was around 46% that we're headed in the right direction. now

qr code on the screen there. if you would like to help out. and we're staying on top of the fires always in la for the latest. just head to our website. kron 4 dot com. >> in the east bay, the fremont fire department announced an expansion. there was a ceremony at fire station number 6 this afternoon. the department is adding a new truck and 9 additional firefighters. we've got a chance to speak with east bay congressman eric swalwell about the expansion. >> why meyer with i saw today in fremont they added fire company today because they did an assessment of where the majority of the calls are coming from and they surged more resources at a new engine and additional firefighters, 2 station 6 there. so that's the direction you should be going. and that's what responsible government leaders too. >> these additions mean that fire station number 6 located on central avenue is going to have an engine and a truck staffed each and every day.

>> and the north bay filet o has a new interim fire chief arthur gonzalez says of native finished, served the city for years. he says the fire department will be a progressive organization that provides leadership and high quality safety for the community. city officials say the recruitment process to select a new permanent fire chief will happen soon. a four-year-old girl remains critical condition after being hit by at least one bullet in vallejo. >> our kron four's philippe djegal reports that the child was an innocent bystander when gunfire was exchanged really been hitting rocks and firecrackers. turns out what sounded like firecrackers at around 8.30, sunday evening was actually gunfire in rapid succession and the only person vallejo police know sustained an injury was a young girl stream loose police sergeant was shot. hollis says patrol officers working near sawyer street and mark avenue heard the shots fired and found dozens of shell casings when

a tuesday night, a beautiful bay area, january day with mostly clear skies today into tonight into tomorrow. and the sun has set on absolutely gorgeous day. really mild conditions dry, offshore winds, not very impressive, very weak as a matter of fact. so we're in for an absolute beautiful spell of weather. and that continues day after day. not a drop of rain. so here's a look at the bay area. headlines, the dry weather continues again. and we haven't we saw so much rain there for well, we can take a few weeks off. it will be ok as long as we get some more raindrops in the near future. mostly sunny conditions, light winds but was cold and frosty this morning, it'll be cold and frosty again tomorrow morning. the difference is it was an adviser yesterday and some numbers to get down to freezing in santa rosa, napa and in concord. but tomorrow morning, we'll be pretty close to that in some areas. high temperatures above normal. and they're trending a little

closer to average. now in terms of the future wind gusts look at offshore and then look how they swing around as we head into wednesday, looks more like more variable and even into a sea breeze as we head toward tomorrow night. humidity. well, our relative humidity spans from about 52%. and that is in san francisco to the 30's. 33% in san jose. and that's ok, we're not that dry compared to the bone dry conditions in southern california. weather relative humidity there is 5 to 10 to 15%. you can see in the water vapor image little bit of moisture heading in our direction as water vapor. it's not rain in the meantime, our futurecast shows high pressure remains in control. we don't see any raindrops of few clouds do move through over the next week or so. grant vicki. >> a major update on frances case cancer diagnosis with the latest after the break.

>> some breaking news in san francisco. a bad car crash in the outer sunset park on for sarah stinson just arrived on scene. she joins us now live with the sarah, what's going on? >> yeah, serious crash here in sunset. we are here at sunset boulevard and santiago street where both directions are closed. this crash happened just before 4 o'clock. can see just how serious it was by taking a look at the damage. i mean, the car here, the sedan. it has heavy damage so much so crumbled up to all the airbags are deployed. there's glass

everywhere and fire crews, the first responders. they had to use the jaws of life is intense power tools, too, break into the car and actually get the driver out of the car to get them to the hospital. and in fact, we've learned that driver was taken to a nearby trauma center in serious condition. then we have 2 other trucks involved in this crash. big trucks at that one. looks like some kind of construction truck and the other looks like a box truck. it's being towed right now. and we're told a driver in each of those trucks have been taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. now, the cause of the crash, of course, being investigated. we've seen police officers out here trying to figure out what all went down because this is really disrupted traffic here right at the peak of people heading home for the day. >> some neighbors have stopped by. they want to see what's going on. and, of course, just devastating to see just that

the wreckage of the sedan here. i mean, it tells the whole story. and so we're waiting to learn a little bit more information about what happened in this crash. but fire crews, they have left. police have done. they're investigating and it looks like now they're starting to told these vehicles involved that way. they can reopen this intersection again sunset in santiago and they're trying to make sure that they can get this all back open because it has caused quite traffic stir in the area. people having to go around into the neighborhood. but yeah, so we'll ke p our eyes on the information we get. we're trying to figure out just how serious of the injury this driver has, but definitely an active scene here. i mean, they are towing the cars so maybe could be 15 to 30 minutes before this clears. we'll be here and make sure we provide an update soon. back to you. sarah stinson. >> live for us. not too bad out there, but you'll keep us posted as we. take a look at the forecast here on a tuesday

night taking a peek outside over san francisco. kathy trafton here with a look at the forecast. cathy. >> well, we're the lucky ones. are we northern california, the san francisco bay area, beautiful conditions, dry conditions. temperatures only a little bit above normal, a very mild offshore flow of wind and the sun has set on one more beautiful day across the bay area. mother nature is now taking her paint brush and giving us some beautiful colors. as we take a look from the east bay hills from the lawrence livermore lab right over across to to the bay into the ocean. so temperatures right now we're in the 50's and 60's. but these are >> dropping now that the sun has set, of course, as you expect, will head down into the 50's and 40's and even some areas in the 30's temperature change compared to yesterday. it's a bit of cooler day today than yesterday. cooler right now, 4 degrees cooler from nevado and 2 degrees cooler in half moon bay. plus 3, though in livermore. depends on where you work. wind gusts that we've been seeing and just

tick undecided, consistent, offshore flow of wind. now, look what happens tomorrow as we start to see more of a seabreeze. the breeze is kicking from the ocean right into the inland areas. we're starting to see a little bit of a change, but still high pressure reign. supreme high pressure is still our dominant weather feature and that means dry weather for us. and sadly dry weather also for our neighbors and friends in southern california. they could really use the rain they're so far behind in the rainfall. we're ok, we saw quite a bit of rain in northern california, even into the bay area. oh, yes, we'll see a few clouds here. and there. but overall, we are in great shape now this morning, some numbers were in the 30's. in fact, we had temperatures hitting freezing in the north bay in the east bay. and you know what tomorrow morning will be a lot like this morning. the snow advisory in effect tomorrow morning, like there was today, but you'll see 30's and 40's for temperatures and the high temperatures tomorrow. a lot like today. pretty much everyone in the 60's. so if you're in san francisco,

you'll see numbers in the 60's. if you want to head to the coastline, maybe head to the beach in half moon bay. 61 degrees for you. you're going to stick on the peninsula. maybe the bayshore line numbers again in the 60's. so we'll see lots of sunshine. few high thin cirrus clouds at gentle offshore breeze. turning a little bit more onshore. some of the warmest numbers in the santa clara valley. 69 for san jose and santa clara. also numbers in north bay numbers still in the 60's everywhere from santa rosa, right over to half moon bay and in 2 stinson beach. so we're in great shape beautiful conditions for us. not a drop of rain, not too much wind. and then let me show you 7 day forecast. as you see. there's no rain. okay. we drop temperatures down just a little bit. overall, it's great conditions. kind of chilly in some of the mornings. but so far, no rain. all right. we could use a little we sure could. thanks. thanksgiving for the second day in a row. a key hearing part of governor newsom,

special legislative session >> has been postponed. it comes just a day after the governor and democratic state lawmakers announced that they're expanding it to include more than 2 billion dollars in emergency fire aid that in addition to newsom's plan to allocate 25 million dollars to the state doj, that's to help fund the future lawsuits against the trump administration. and another 25 million dollars to fund immigration-related legal services within california. now not clear why the session was postponed or when it's going to be rescheduled. but many southern california lawmakers, they are back in their districts to respond to the wildfires. >> many of our colleagues are personally, if not their constituencies are really badly affected by the wildfires and a lot of that to stay behind to care family, take care of loved ones. and so it's a very evolve in food situation, giving its big disaster and of course, actually many of our colleagues are from the los angeles area. so more of a scheduling thing figuring out how to navigate disaster and

we're not causing the special session whatsoever its way, just like postponing to another day and seeing how the disaster goes. but we still are intending to goforth. special session. >> now governor newsom says he wants the special bills to be on his desk before inauguration day next. monday. >> a san francisco like so many places has its challenges. but this is our city. and tonight we're gonna hear from 2 of its residents. one is a state leader. >> the other and acrobat. >> this is a magical, marvelous, wonderful place. this is our city. my name lenny like us contend governor, a california, san francisco. question. there have been challenge us, particularly the downtown area. what takes to overcome those challenges. i never doubted that.
