>> now with 10 devastating wildfires continue to rip through la county. the death toll rising tonight as the region braces for more dangerous winds. >> and the bay area community coming together to help with that can in need the very latest efforts from san francisco and least a business owner cleaning up after yet another robbery his store. why says he's losing confidence and keeping his businesses open good evening and thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 10. i'm dan thorn and i'm noelle bellow. tonight marks one week since 2 los angeles communities were devastated by wildfires. at least 25 people. >> have been killed in the pacific palisades and altadena fires. here's a look at where the palisades fire stands tonight. flames of ripped through more than 23,000 acres

destroyed more than 10,000 structures. >> at least 8 people have been killed. and tonight it is at 18% containment and a look at out to dina after the eaton fire scorched through more than 14,000 acres. there. >> the death toll updated from 16 to 17 just earlier this evening. the neighborhood once lush with greenery and historic homes, but at least 7,000 structures and homes have now been burned to the ground to the eaton fire is now. 35% contained. both of these fires have been fueled by some strong winds in southern california of the those winds supposed to with again tonight. but i know the folks down there are hoping that they're going to get a break sometime soon. our meteorologist kathy trafton has a little bit more detail on what experience. >> it's extreme fire weather concerns. in fact, it's apds red-flag warning particular date det dangerous situation.

a national weather service forecaster said really that's as loud they can scream. this is this pdf redskin u.s. red flag warning because it's for critical fire weather to extreme fire behavior. these fire systems can create their own weather. it's crazy, but it's a red flag. warning is particularly dangerous, knows they don't give us not very often. that is certainly last week or so. gusty winds to 70 miles per hour possible in the highest peaks and by tomorrow. so the went to strengthening in southern california and by 03:00am to 03:00pm tomorrow. those winds are a bit the peak. and that is when they boast strong winds are. and that's the biggest concern. high-risk large fires, rapid spreads are possible. here are the areas of fire danger. the red flag warnings and the high wind warnings. some of those extend now up through polk county and into santa barbara county. the well, dan. >> kevin, thank you. well, as the fight continues tonight against the deadly wildfires

burning in los angeles county and the bay area is stepping up to help their neighbors to the south manny's in san francisco. >> holding a donation drive this week for people affected by the eaton fire and altadena kron 4. sarah since and joining us live in studio with more details. sarah. >> take a look. day 2 of this donation drive in manny's is packed with donations for people wanting to help those affected by the fires in los angeles. the owner making sure each item donated his match with an organization that has requested it. >> the images of loss and devastation are inspiring people in the bay area to step up and help. that includes the owner of manny's in san francisco. really boggling my mind. the images i've seen of la. >> many you could. tl says the fire hits close to home as he's from there. devastating. what i've seen happen to my hometown. you could. tl says he decided to host a week-long donation drive after asking a friend in altadena how he could help. word of mouth and

tongue. tons of people have come in. and as you can see, we've gotten. >> overwhelming amount of goods donated los angeles organizations have become inundated with donations from all over. so you could. tl says he is making sure that goods they drive down are actually needed. there's a list of organizations have requested specific things. we are pairing them with specific drivers. and so we're packing their cars with the things that they need, feminine hygiene products, toiletries, non-perishable foods, kids, toys, kids, clothes, new underwear, sleeping goods and sending them directly to these different shelters. and even though southern california faces a long road to recovery, you could tell, says he's confident the bay area will be there every step of the way. this is california. >> we help each other. we support each other. we love each other. this is in our blood. >> but i am happy to see people come together and and donate what they can.

oakland business owner says he's dealing with back-to-back robberies, both of his gas stations robbed on the same day within minutes of each other. kron four's. lindsey ford spoke of the business owner in joins us in the newsroom. now with more on this. lindsay. >> yeah, the robberies happened around 3 monday morning in the owner rushed psaki owns a total of 4 gas stations in oakland. he says all of them have been robbed 5 to 6 times each within last year and with the 2 recent robberies, he says he doesn't knows he can make it as a business owner in oakland. >> surveillance footage from grand gas station in oakland shows an employee plating as a group of masked men pry open the door and jump over the counter. then then empty the trash cans and fill it with secrets off the back. shell the owner. a rush soucie says he was disturbed watching footage and says police didn't show up.

>> and boys calling 9-1-1 thing, the phone above polls showing mike, you know, sis. >> this just ruthless and at field. 24 7 down the road. robbers smashed their way into the storefronand take off with the trash can full of cigarettes. we call the police. you would think the police will be on site. >> you know, not the first robbery that we're doing on the second round or the second station, but they're nowhere to be fought. >> psaki owns 4 gas stations in oakland and says each of brought a 5 to 6 times each last year. ridiculous issue. one who wants the blue? i get repeats. and december 29th at another gas station he owns. you can see a robber smashing their way through a bulletproof cage where an employee is. my heart goes out to my boys and their safety psaki says he's considering closing the oakley stores because he can't afford the cleanup cost and does not want

his employees to get hurt. but there is no longer than that. >> don't know what to do. psaki says he's written letters to the oakland mayor's office. the da and oakland pd. >> asking why 9-1-1 response times are slow and has not received a response. >> and i don't see saying one fe out with stop prevent things olivia, i crime is down. oakland and look make. got to be kidding at this salt injured. >> and psaki says he replaced both the doors on both those gas stations this morning. but he's worried about the robbers coming back. he adds that he's glad that prop 36 past but doesn't have faith in oakland pd to enforce the law. and lindsey ford, back to you. >> lindsey, thank you. tonight, names of the family members found shot to death in a santa rosa home earlier this month have been released. authorities have identified them as 67 year-old clive goth 67 year-old donna goth. 33

year-old reyna goth and 28 year-old cameron goff. deputies say clive and donna were once married and rain at cameron where their children, investigators say a gun was found near one of those victims but did not specify which one the victims were found by police last week during a welfare check on monarch court. they each found with several gunshot wounds in different areas of the house. police also conducted a search warrant at a house linked to one of the victims in san jose. however, it's still not known what that search result of them. >> in san francisco, 3 people are in the hospital after a crash involving a car and 2 big trucks. the crash happened just before 4 o'clock this afternoon. the outer sunset district. take a look at that car. there. fire crews used the jaws of life to cut into the sedan and rescue the driver. that person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. a construction struck can strict construction truck could also be seen on the center divide and a box

truck was also involved. the drivers of the 2 trucks also at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. people walking their dogs in the area, saw the aftermath and say this shows how dangerous this spot can be. >> drive here every day on sunset boulevard. and, you know, its says of a oriented neighborhood. so to see something like this, it kind of just such a big wake-up call. obviously prayers out to everybody involved here. but i just wish everybody would just drive a little slower. >> multiple lanes had to be blocked. a muni buses were rerouted, but all vehicles have since been towed. and the intersection is reopened. still unclear, though, what caused this crash happened. the chp says speeding is a possibility in a crash that shut down all westbound lanes of i-80 in el serino. this happened around 6 o'clock tonight on the freeway east of cutting boulevard. the chp says 4 vehicles were involved, including an sfo shuttle bus. one person was injured, but they're expected to be okay.

all lanes reopened just before 08:00pm. >> there is heightened security in downtown san francisco this week for the annual jp morgan healthcare conference. first lady doctor jill biden was among those who delivered remarks today. she spoke on the importance of advancing women's health research. this year's conference marks the first major health care industry gathering since the killing of united healthcare ceo brian thompson. last month. some attendees say they do notice the tighter security. i've been coming to this conference for 15 years and i've never seen so many police officers. >> at the jp morgan conference ever before. so i think it really double down on security. >> the conference will run through thursday. it's expected to bring an estimated 92 million dollars. the local economy. >> still ahead, giving wildfire displaced pets second chance of bay area shelter is working to rehome dogs left behind in southern california. >> plus, a last ditch effort to save a safeway store from closing in the and more bay

>> now at 10, a south bay school named after a 9.11 hero is facing a possible closure. family say of schools have to close. it shouldn't be this one. >> the talk of the closures come says the school district is trying to cope with a 40% decline in enrollment over the last 15 years. kron four's jack moment reports. >> nestled under the san jose international airports. flight path is an american hero cemented into history. so

yeah, it's a really tough seeing some of those schools. you know, captain james and all elementary is named after the pilot of flight 93, which was taken over by hijackers and set to crash into the capitol on 9/11/2001. but crew and passengers took over and saved countless lives crashing into a field in pennsylvania. dole's legacy has been living on in his hometown as the namesake of this school, which is now one of several schools that could be close. franklin mckinley school district says it's faced with a severely declining enrollment. is so different when i first. >> started teaching at bridges. it was fair. and i think there were like 80900 students who richard brooks teaches at the district and says the decline in enrollment has been going on for years. and i know parents are worried about. their schools because they're, you know, pretty much community centers where we go for a lot of resources. and while his school bridges academy is not on the chopping block, he has a personal tie to dall elementary's. i attended there when i was a child. i had a long history.

there was nice to see honor for the 9.11 victims and for, you know, james don't self. so it's kind of sad to see something that i thought to be around forever. and the community, you know, possibly going away forever. the district telling kron for news in a statement, quote, at this time, no decisions have been made regarding what school sites will be impacted if captain jason and dodd elementary is selected for closure, we remain deeply committed to honoring and celebrating the legacy of kept and all. and for brooks, he hopes whatever closures do happen. >> aren't too the community knowing about it makes a little bit tougher for the kids to focus because >> they wonder about the future a little bit. the district tells me that there are a minimum of 5 schools that could face being closed. and coming up on february, 11th, the school board will vote on a final resolution to decide which of those schools will be closed. >> reporting in san jose jackie moment kron 4 news. >> all right. well, there's been no shortage of sunshine. nice basket. you notice to us.

>> exactly. it's very dry. we could use some rain drops in. i don't see any insight anytime soon. so. let's show you where that where we are at this point. we have lots of sunshine, as you say and it's going. it's a beautiful evening. once again, here's the golden gate bridge. it's picture perfect shot. and really clear evening if you want to go out, take a look at the moon. it's good because it was full last night and it's almost full tonight. 99% full dry weather, though the country continues because there really aren't any raindrops tomorrow morning will be cold and frosty. and there's a possibility of some patchy fog in some locations, mostly sunny, light winds, great conditions. high temperatures, trent close to average. we've been running a little bit above average. we'll see a few more days of that. and then we'll start to cool it down toward normal for the weekend. future wind gusts we've been seeing day after day after day of offshore flow. well, guess what, by tomorrow morning things start

to take a turn. the wind bark start to turn around a little bit. and by sunset tomorrow. gosh, it's a sea breeze. that means we get some moisture coming into the atmosphere. so that is really good news. we'll take every drop we can get future humidity. because tomorrow morning it's close to 100% humidity in some spots such as novato. could certainly see some patches of fog overnight tonight, 30's 40's this morning. there was some freezing temperatures in the north and the east bay. we could see that again. old area of high pressure setting itself up. it's a blocking pattern, meaning it's blocking rain storms. all the rain goes up and over that block into the pacific northwest and canada and we stay dry. so that is not the greatest news temperatures tomorrow, mainly in the 60's. a lot like today. and the 3 day forecast shows sunshine and sunshine and sunshine with temperatures pretty similar to today. back to you. >> services feel like so many big cities has its challenges.

>> now at 10, 30 communities turned to ash los angelesr neighbors working to rebuild in the wake of devastating fires and the death toll rising to 25 just a few hours ago and the damage is far from over. here's a look at pacific palisades tonight where the palisades fire tore through and destroyed more than 10,000 structures. at least 8 people have died in that fire. it's 17% contained and has burned more than 23,000 acres. >> and a look at what's left of altadena after the eaton fire moved through the area. the death toll updated from 16

to 17 just earlier this evening. the neighborhood once was lunch with greenery. it is now destroyed at least 7,000 structures. mostly homes have been destroyed here. it's now 35% contained. the eaton fire burned more than 14,000 acres. both of these fires fueled by strong winds in southern california. not only are the la wildfires among the most destructive in the state's history. estimates are showing the burning fires could be one of the costliest natural disasters in the country's history. government agencies have not released any damage estimates just yet. but accuweather a company that tracks climate and its impact. reports of fires could result in a economic loss of 250 to 275 billion dollars. that's partly because major fires like palisades and eaten burned through highly populated areas with some of

the highest valued real estate in the country. different factors were taken into consideration when they made this estimate, which includes business a vehicle, infrastructure damage as well, along with a long-term health care costs, lost wages and supply chain interruptions. keep in mind it could take months until we learn the total financial loss of these disasters as the damage is still being surveyed. meantime, for lawsuits have already been filed against southern california edison, accusing the power utility company of sparking the eaton fire lawyers for homeowners in altadena area who had to evacuate or lost their homes entirely filed those suits yesterday. they blame at a for the fire potentially starting under an electrical transmission tower in eaton canyon, southern california edison, who operates the transmission tower says it does not believe its equipment was responsible. and the official cause for this one under investigation. >> well, people are not only the ones who are displaced by these fires. so many our pets

and local rescue organizations, like much filler stepping up to help out by taking in southern california dogs that were already up for adoption in the first place. the move is also making room for la shelters filled with dogs that are lost or had to evacuate from the fires as kron four's. dan kerman tells us now the goal is to get these dogs a forever home here in the bay area. >> i just so excited for tomorrow when we get to meet 10 new ones all sizes, all shapes. but all all over 7 muttville senior dog rescue founder sherri franklin talking about the arrival wednesday of 10 more senior dogs from fire-ravaged southern california. we're taking dogs that were at the shelter and up for adoption at the shelter and we are taking those shots and we're just integrating them up here to san francisco to put them back up for adoption. up here so that the shelters, the local shelters la have room for the

evacuee dogs and the dogs that they find the 10 that are coming wednesday are in addition to sierra and kit 2 of the 4 that arrived from southern california earlier this week there around 7, 8, years old. they their actual guardian passed away. so these dogs were brought to the pasadena humane and put up for adoption. probably a couple weeks before the fire. so we were able to take them when melissa and glenda heard met, phil was taking in additional senior dogs from la. they knew they wanted to volunteer. i mean, i think there's a lot of dogs here who just loving walking and i'm here for it for now. the goal is to get as many of the senior dogs adopted as possible because another 10 will be arriving from southern california on wednesday. and that's just the beginning. i think we're probably going to get about 50 of of these stocks and their that's above and beyond our normal intake. so we're really

clear nights, dry conditions. it's been picture perfect for us because we've had a lot of rain a few weeks back. in fact, we had quite a bit of rain above normal rainfall. and so we can take a little bit of a dry spell is not unusual to see dry weather for a week or so in the middle of the winter time. and that's what we've got now. beautiful view, golden gate bridge. it's just picture perfect. if you were to step outside right now, most numbers are in the 40's. a few areas lingering and 50's. 51 for santa's cooler and sent sailing at 40. so we'll see some overnight lows, probably in the 30's and 40's. but the dry weather does continue and it's absolutely true. we have not seen a raindrop for quite some time. the question is when do we see it? well, for tomorrow, it's all about cold morning. so this morning was so cold. it 32 degrees in a few spots in the north bay as well as in the east bay and frosty. yes, but we actually have the dew point starting rise a little bit. and so it looks like we

could see some patches of fog overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. mostly sunny tomorrow, light winds. we did see some stronger winds. a few days ago. we had wind advisory, but not today. in fact, high temperatures will be trending close to average. now our winds have been going offshore for days and days and days even gusting at times. offshore day after day. and finally tomorrow by around sunrise, we'll start to see a change. you see little wind barbs who isn't a white things, look like it'll airplanes, they turn around and go the opposite direction. that is of seabreeze for us. and that's about sunset or so. tomorrow we've got to decide. sea breeze, an onshore flow. and that will add moisture to our atmosphere. is the breezes pick up the moisture from the pacific ocean and bring it right over the bay area. and that's exactly what we need to want to keep the atmosphere moist humidity. then close to 100% in some areas tomorrow morning around sunrise, especially in the north bay and a big old area of high

pressure that is continuing to be the dominant weather feature. it's setting itself up to be in a big blocking pattern block storms from heading to california and they're heading instead to the pacific northwest and parts north of that temperature wise tomorrow, beautiful 60's overnight lows, 30's and 40's. but temperatures tomorrow in the 60's pretty much everywhere. so we're looking at numbers in san francisco right along the beaches in the bay shoreline, all in the 60's mid to low 60's in most spots. if you head down toward mountain view 65 some of the warmest numbers are in the santa clara valley. santa is a 69 degrees. so you can just take your pick. there is all in the 60's as we head up toward the north bay and had then over to the shoreline to us in the 60's pretty much everywhere. a look at the 7 day forecast shows 60's on and on and on. until we get to the weekend. temperatures trend a little bit closer to normal, but we'll still have very chilly mornings. so there you

go. ryan, great shape for now. but you know, over time we'd like to see some rain drops to be nice to see some. i don't see any for the end of january. you know, if we head toward valentine's day with no rain, then we get into a real situation where our vegetation dries out and we're in a tough spot to not highly concerned just yet, but not quite yet, but we're down got very, very much watching starts. happy. >> all right. well, a 4 year-old girl in critical condition tonight after being struck by at least one bullet in vallejo. the shooting happened on a residential neighborhood around 8.30, sunday night. police responded to mark avenue near fairgrounds drive after hearing gunshots. initially believed were fireworks. police say they found dozens of shell casings in the area. many young girl was admitted to the hospital in connection with the shooting later that night. police have not released suspect descriptions or announced any arrests.

>> new at 10 tesla ceo elon musk is facing a federal lawsuit over its purchase of x, formerly once called twitter u.s. securities and exchange commission filed a civil complaint against musk today alleging the billionaire failed to disclose his ownership of twitter and as a result, musk was able to buy twitter shares at a much lower price in response, musk's attorney called the lawsuit a sham and said he's done nothing wrong. there is another shakeup at meadow. last week the company announced it is getting rid of fact checking. today, bloomberg reported ceo mark zuckerberg plans on cutting 5% of its workforce. that's roughly 3600 people. zuckerberg says he made the decision to cut low performers. >> mark zuckerberg, the ceo believes they have to work more quickly to weed out what he's calling loper former. so getting much more aggressive and the means by which they do these performance-based reviews. and i think that's a trend we may see more of in silicon valley.
