robert. we're just minutes apart. thousands of men police are set to be fired by sometime next month. why company says it's letting go of so many people. well, good wednesday morning and thank you waking with us bright and early for the kron. 4 morning news. >> we're talking about the winds for the 1st half of the week and now i think we might be at standstill when it comes to that. you know, on joining us this morning. how are the winds this morning? winds are calm, actually not for southern california, though. >> but here in the bay area, we're mostly clear. we are chilly. we're starting off too. a cold start. we're still in 30's. not as cool as yesterday, but as you could see, frosty temperatures still across our inland communities. some 40's around the bay. so bundle when you're heading out the door winds are very calm. you can see back to the single digits. i know it was really

windy at the start of the week. has a little bit of a offshore wind component to it. but very slow here. and you can see our weather pattern. it's quiet for now. we just have that ridge of high pressure that is taking over keeping us dry. don't even see any cloudy conditions on our radar. so you can expect that continue to continue through the week for the next few hours, though, we are mostly clear and sunny for the day, we will be remaining in the 30's 40's and be warming up to the 50's for our morning hours. when i come back, we'll talk about the fire conditions in southern california and your 7 day forecast. back to you. all right. out. >> anchorage this morning. no major delays or accidents. a richmond center fell at 6 and the golden gate bridge. 19 minutes, san jose school named after a 9-1-1 hero. 9.11 heroes facing a possible closure. the talk of the closure comes as the school district trying to cope with a 40% decline in enrollment over the last 15 years. that

moment? has that story? >> nestled under the san jose international airports. flight path is an american hero cesented into history. so yeah, it's really seeing some of those schools, captain jason elementary is named after the pilot of flight 93, which was taken over by hijackers and set to crash into the capitol on 9/11/2001, but crew and passengers took over and saved countless lives crashing into a field in pennsylvania. dole's legacy has been living on in his hometown as the namesake of this school, which is now one of several schools that could be close. franklin mckinley school district says it's faced with a severely declining enrollment. my first. started teaching at bridges. it was fair. and i think there were like 80900 students who richard brooks teaches at the district and says the decline in enrollment has been going on for years. and i know parents are worried about. >> their schools because they're, you know, pretty much community centers. and while his school bridges academy is

not on the chopping block, he has a personal tie to dall elementary's. i attended there when i was a child. i had a long history. there was nice to see honor for the 9.11 victims and for you know, james don't self. so it's kind of sad to see something that i thought to be around forever. and the community, you know, possibly going away forever. the district telling kron for news in a statement, quote, at this time, no decisions have been made regarding which school sites will be impacted if captain jason and dodd elementary is selected for closure, we remain deeply committed to honoring and celebrating the legacy of kept and all. and for brooks, he hopes whatever closures do happen. >> aren't too the community knowing about it makes a little bit tougher for the kids to focus because >> they wonder about the future a little bit. the district tells me that there are a minimum of 5 schools that could face being closed. and coming up on february, 11th, the school board will vote on a final resolution to decide which of the schools will be closed.

>> reporting in san jose jack moment kron 4 news. in the east bay, the alameda county board of supervisors. >> they're going 4 with selling their ownership share of the oakland coliseum. 2 local development group selling the african american sports and entertainment group. is it simply just yet? that was approved on tuesday. and that was a term sheet with specific conditions under which the deal can move forward. one of those conditions include acquiring the lease of the county from liability for any possible hazardous waste cleanup at the coliseum. the county in the afc g now 30 days to wrap up any remaining details of the sale. happening today. san francisco leaders are going to get together. they're going to talk about how to combat the fentanyl crisis in the city. mayor daniel lurie and the board of supervisors are set to talk at a press conference. it's going to take place later on this morning at 11 right near the civic center. bart plaza. just yesterday, the mayor shared his fentanyl state of emergency ordinance with the board. was head of

the south bay, a 17 year-old among 3 killed in a crash in gilroy. chp ys the crash happened on shore road shortly before 7 last night. it's a driver ofhe car, lost control of car, crossed into the opposite lane and then hi another vehicle. police say it's unclear if alcohol or drugs were a factor in that crash. meantime, in san francisco, 3 people are in the hospital after a crash following a car and 2 big rigs. the crash happened just before 4 on tuesday afternoon. that's in the outer sunset district shutting down the intersection of sunset boulevard, santiago street fire crews used the jaws of life to cut into a sedan and rescue. driver. that person had to be taken to the hospital with serious injuries. a construction truck could be seen on the center divider and a box trucks was also involved. the driver of the 2 trucks are also at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. people walking their dog, saw the aftermath. they say this shows how dangerous this area can actually be.

his workforce. that's roughly 3600 people. zuckerberg says he made the decision to cut low performers. >> mark zuckerberg, the ceo believes they have to work more quickly to weed out what he's calling loper former. so getting much more aggressive in the means by which they do. these performance-based reviews. and i think that's a trend we may see more of in silicon valley. >> well, some people think the real motive behind these moves for companies to focus more on ai. we've reached out to minute. we're waiting to hear back. now. the latest on those deadly wildfires burning in southern california. cal fire reporting the massive palisades fire in los angeles county is now responsible for killing 8 people and burning more than 23,000 acres. it's currently at 18% containment. it's also destroyed more than 10,000 structures. and burning in altadena, eaton fires scorching more than 14,000 acres. that's 35% contained. cal fire says it has killed 17 people and the story at least

>> well, here 4 things you to know today. so which is the police are warning the city's chinese community of blessing scams. these are photos police released of some suspects. investigators say scammers tell victims they can provide relief from a curse or an illness affecting family members. roughly $374,000 and valuables. this stolen recent months because of the scam and a 4 year-old girl in critical condition after she was shot and the shooting happened sunday on marks avenue right near fairgrounds, drive. police have not released any suspect descriptions or announced any arrests. san

day. maybe a freeze in our hills. so with that, it's pretty quiet weather. we have a daytime highs in the low 60's around san francisco. similar temperatures across the bay area. so daly, cit- pacific along the low 60's for you as well. south san francisco, you could see a trend here. a little warmer as you make your way towards the south bay. mount few. 64 degrees palo alto as well and upper 60's and santa clara county, san jose morgan hill could see 70 degrees and over to the east bay tri valley, mid 60's. and dublin livermore, seminole 65 degrees for you in union city and heading towards contra costa county. more 60's on the map says he noticed in our inland communities while walnut creek and danville, lower 60's there as well as moraga orinda pay a little warmer along the bay shore mid 60's in oakland and berkeley to the north bay. more 60's for you. so very similar temperatures across the bay area and there's santa

rosa sitting at lows. 63 there, too. now here's our weather pattern. high pressure is in control. low-pressure just sitting off the u.s. the coast down south there. that's creating those windy conditions. those offshore winds, the santa ana winds that's causing those wildfires. so a quick check the big wildfires here. palisades on the west side of los angeles county. we're looking at 50 degrees right now. humidity is at 30%. the winds right now are 9 to 14 miles per hour or so. at times we see a lull in the winds. but there are still critical fire weather, red flag warnings through 06:00pm this evening and until 03:00pm, there's actually a pds red-flag warning. so that is a particularly dangerous situation. we could see wind gusts as high as 30 to 50 miles per hour and even 70 miles per hour in the highest peaks. so still critical fire danger we're watching out there. but the good news is today is the last windy day and it looks like southern california will get a break. so when you see the fire weather model, the orange and

red that indicates a risk, this is around noon. and as you can see when that red flag, the red flag warnings expire, you don't see a lot of yellow on the map. so that'll be great relief for firefighters down there. back here in the bay area. this is going to be our weather pattern for much of the week. we have clear skies, quiet, dry conditions. >> looks like the winds won't be an issue for now. and take a look at the seven-day that's not looking like january. and as far as when we could expect rain, we're looking dry for the rest of the month. back to all right. thank you for that gala. speaking role 8 minute ride traveling into the city on the bay bridge. >> well, your richmond center fell bridge is at 7 golden gate bridge isn't 20 minutes. a major commuter highway in sonoma county could be seeing some big changes soon. caltrans pitching a new plan to revive highway. 37 that runs right near mare island in vallejo. and it's prone to flooding and congestion. officials are proposing to replace part of the road runs over totally creek, adding lanes both east and westbound direction. project is expected to cost about 430 million

dollars. the money could come from federal and state grants during a community meeting last night. residents ask questions and with some concerns about the project. >> caltrans plans seems to reserve toll revenue for road improvements but not public transportation buses and vans are needed. but where's the money going to come from? the solano county transit agency has been asked to provide public transit across we 37, but president, it looks like an unfunded mandate. >> to maintain the route, caltrans says they are considering making part of the highway toll lane. if all goes through construction could start next year. and in the east bay, the fremont fire department. they're expanding 9 more firefighters going to be hired and the department is bringing in a new fire truck east bay congressman eric swalwell, praise of fremont leaders from the upgrades added fire company. >> today because they did an assessment of where.

>> well >> in the east bay, a person is dead after a shooting in oakland, the 7 just before 9 tuesday morning on east. well, right around the corner from international boulevard, police say the victim was taken to the hospital where they died. one person has been detained in that shooting. and we're also learning another person was shot oakland. this happened around one tuesday afternoon on linden, right near 10th. the victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. we don't have any word on any arrests happening just yet. alameda county fire and the city of selling and are launching a new crisis response unit to

take a look at these images here this you know, it's not hard to find the effects of fentanyl downtown. if you walk through the tenderloin neighborhood, you're going to be dodging people camping out on the sidewalk, doing drugs in plain sight people slumped over folded in half are a common sight. there. according to the cdc, fentanyl is a synthetic opioid this truck 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times more powerful than morphine. the mayor saying on social media, quote, i want everyone to understand that what is happening in this neighborhood is unacceptable. we're going to tackle this fentanyl crisis head-on. we can all agree as a city that we can do better. the people of san francisco and the people of this community deserve better and they're going to get better. he sets in court. well, larry says that he had a heart wrenching experience last month, seeing babies inside san francisco general hospital suffering from fentanyl exposure and he set to introduce this ordinance to the board of supervisors later on this

morning. now, city leaders are expected to speak here at city hall at 11:00am. that's when we expect to hear more about details of what this ordinance will exactly do for now. we're live in san francisco going for kron. 4 news. all right, kelly, thank you for report. time now, 5.31, of 4 year-old girl is in critical condition. >> after she was hit at least one bullet in the leg hill. well, firstly, deval reports the child caught in the crossfire. >> vallejo police sergeant richard hollis says patrol officers on special assignment in the crest neighborhood heard gunshots near sawyer street and mark avenue at around 8.30, sunday night. longtime neighbor j little heard the rapid sounds too initially thinking they were firecrackers. officers responded and found dozens of shell casings but no victims. moments later, our operators receive a call from a local hospital reporting that a young zoo for now

arrests vallejo. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> well, in the east bay person has been taken into custody after a young child was found dead at a home in oakland. this happened on december 17th on the corner of harm on in 57 avenue. police say they got a child, a call about a child w unresponsive, the childs and taken to the hospital where they later died. if you have any videos or pictures that could help with the investigation. police are asking to give them a call. and in developing news, we now know the names of the family members who were found shot to death in santa rosa earlier this month. authorities identified in a 67 yo, clive, both 67 year-old on a goose. 33 year-old renee guth. 28 year-old cameron goof. deputies say clive and donna, they were once married and renee and cameron. they were their children. visitors say a gun was found near one of the victims, but they didn't specify which one the victims were found by police last week during a welfare. check them on our court. they were each found with several gunshot

wounds in different areas of the house. police also conducted a search warrant at a house linked to one of the victims in san jose. it's not known what that search resulted and sanders is a police warning about a recent scam that targets the city's chinese community. it's called blessing scams. the say the people on your screen are some of the suspects in that blessing scam. police say scammers tell victims they can provide relief from illnesses affecting their family members. tell the victims to put money and valuables in a bag, the scammers and switch out the valuables until the victim's to open the bag at a later date to the blasts, according officials, roughly $375,000. valuables have been stolen in recent months because of the scam. happening today, the east bay, the oakland police commission there to host a town hall to continue to talk about their police pursuit policy ahead of the town hall to residents of small business owners gathering to demand immediate into this policy. the groups argue in this policy has led to an increase in suspects,

founder sherri franklin is talking about the arrival wednesday of 10 more senior dogs from fire-ravaged southern california. we're taking dogs that were at the shelter and up for adoption at the shelter and we are taking those shots and we're just integrating them up here to san francisco to put them back up for adoption. up here so that the shelters, the local shelters la have room for the evacuee dogs and the dogs that they find the 10 that are coming wednesday are in addition to sierra and kit 2 of the 4 that arrived from southern california earlier this week there around 7, 8, years old. they their actual guardian passed away. so these dogs were brought to the pasadena humane and put up for adoption. probably a couple were able to take them when melissa and glenda heard met, phil was taking in additional senior dogs from la. they knew

pattern with similar temperatures for the last couple of weeks over in south. you're francisco. 63 degrees in very similar temperatures across redwood city mountain view a little bit warmer over in santa clara county. we're talking upper 60's now. so some mild daytime highs and sunny skies to go along with it. mid 60's in dublin and pleasanton little cooler in livermore in the low 60's. there. union city, 66 degrees sundal little cooler in the 50's and flirting with 60's there, concord and walnut creek in danville. you're in the low 60, same for you in a random raga east bay, shoreline, berkeley, oakland and family and row castro valley mid 60's for you. and then as you can see in the north bay, napa and sonoma are also seeing the mid 60's and similar temperatures over in petaluma and santa rosa. so you're either the lower end ofe the 60's or the mid 60's. so here's our weather pattern. high-pressure is control and a low pressure down south. so

it's keeping things windy down in southern california. it's keeping us dry and mild at let's check in on the fires in l a palisades fire on the west side and that they eat and fire in altadena on the east side. so humidity levels are in the 2030%, not too bad, but still very low. and it is that the early morning hours we see that winds are light 9 to 14 miles per hour. but we are expecting critical fire weather around those fires. so red flag warnings are in place until 6 this and some of that is apds red flag warning. so that does indicate a particularly dangerous situation to put things in perspective. those are only issued when we see tornadoes so dangerous winds coming from the east, 30 to 50 miles per hour in the valleys and up to 70 miles per hour over in the mountain. so the good news is this is the last 20 day we're expecting down there. and when you see the orange and yellows that indicates the fire risk, you can see it spread out along the map by the afternoon. but by the evening,
