nights. but >> nice and sunny and of some mild temperatures for the afternoon. so let's take a live look over at sfo. the sun is coming out and here are the current readings. it is cold here from a lot of so we have 30's in fremont in the east bay livermore. we have low 40's around east bay shoreline in berkeley know clinton more low 30's santa rosa close to that freezing level at 32 degrees said is bring the jacket when you head out the door this morning we have 40's and 50's throughout the morning. we will be warming up to the low 60's, though some upper 60's over in the south bay. but other than that, some quiet weather here. reyna. >> toll plazas and drive times are at about 20 minutes. they are and then another one on the bay bridge. this is also going to toll plaza. you can see crews are trying to get to that right now. so we'll keep a close eye on things. both of those bridges sitting at 20 minutes. if you are traveling or san matteo bridge, also at 20 and the golden gate bridge

where there are no access, no delays about. 24 minutes starting. james, back to you. thanks a lot, ryan. a 71 in the south bay. a 17 year-old is among 3 people who were killed in a crash last night in the chp says 2 other people were also hurt in that crash. kron four's will tran live in gilroy with the story. will. >> and james, think about this. that 17 year-old person should be waking up at this time going to school instead, that was one of the people involved in the accident. the chp headquarters here in gilroy. they had to race out to the scene and investigate which is about 5 miles from here. about 10 minute drive from their headquarters. let me show you a map of the location. so you know exactly where this took place. this was on shore road just west lake. 's about maybe 3 miles from one on one. it's a frontage road traveled by thousands of people every hour. let me show you video

that we shot a little bit earlier this morning. the accident took place at 6.55. last night. so it was probably just this dark as the video that we are showing meeting the visibility. we don't know the cause of the collision, but we do know that 2 cars are involved. we do know that one car crossed the center line. there's not a center divider. it is a very narrow road that car crossed the center divider slammed into the other car, carrying 4 people. 3 out of those 4 people died in that car, including that 17 year-old and then the driver of the other car was injured, rushed to the hospital. so that's why we have 2 people seriously injured this morning. as far as the cause of the collision. we do know that the car crossed the center divider, but we don't know at the center lane. there is no divider, but we don't know if speed or alcohol or even lack of visibility as it's a very dark road, played

any roles in this accident. i've reached out to the chp and they say they should have someone available to talk to me as the morning moves on about this accident. but again, that 17 year-old among the people involved in this accident and that person should be going to high school this morning. it is not in all right. thanks a lot. 703, is the time in the east bay. a person is dead now after a shooting in oakland. >> it happened just before 9 o'clock tuesday morning on east 12th street right around the corner from international boulevard. police say the victim was taken to the hospital where they later died. one person has been detained in that shooting. meanwhile, we're also learning another person was shot in oakland. this time. it happened around 1 o'clock tuesday afternoon on linden street, right near 10th street. the victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. no word yet on any arrests. >> it's 7, 0, for the alameda county board of supervisors is moving forward with selling its share of the oakland

coliseum to a local development group. this sale to the african american sports and entertainment group is not complete yet, but its on the way now it was approved on tuesday. they do approved a term sheet with the conditions that the deal needs to meet to move on. and one of those conditions includes requiring the release of the county from liability for any possible hazardous waste cleanup at the coliseum site, the county cg now have 30 days to wrap up any remaining details of the sale. san jose city leaders are uniting with the community to strengthen immigrant protections. council members are introducing a set of recommendations at today's rules committee meeting to highlight what needs to be done to protect the immigrants that live in the community from federal immigration enforcement concerns and to make sure that they are protected. if you're going to be gathering outside city hall at 1 o'clock this afternoon and the committee, then we'll

take a vote on the recommendations at 02:00pm. >> so in the south bay, san jose school named after a 9.11 hero is facing possible closure. talk of this comes as the district is trying to cope with a 40% decline in enrollment in the last 15 years. for moment has the story. >> nestled under the san jose international airports. flight path is an american hero cemented into history. so yeah, it's really seeing some of those schools, captain jason and all elementary is named after the pilot of flight 93, which was taken over by hijackers and set to crash into the capitol on 9/11/2001, but crew and passengers took over and saved countless lives crashing into a field in pennsylvania. dole's legacy has been living on in his hometown as the namesake of this school, which is now one of several schools that could be close. franklin mckinley school district says it's faced with a severely declining enrollment. my first. started teaching at bridges. it was fair. and i

think there were like 80900 students who richard brooks teaches at the district and says the decline in enrollment has been going on for years. and i know parents are worried about. >> their schools because they're, you know, pretty much community centers. and while his school bridges academy is not on the chopping block, he has a personal tie to dall elementary's. i attended there when i was a child. i had a long history. there was nice to see honor for the 9.11 victims and for you know, james don't self. so it's kind of sad to see something that i thought to be around forever. and the community, you know, possibly going away forever. the district telling kron for news in a statement, quote, at this time, no decisions have been made regarding which school sites will be impacted if captain jason and dodd elementary is selected for closure, we remain deeply committed to honoring and celebrating the legacy of kept and all. and for brooks, he hopes whatever closures do happen. >> aren't too the community knowing about it makes a little bit tougher for the kids to focus because

>> they wonder about the future a little bit. the district tells me that there are a minimum of 5 schools that could face being closed. and coming up on february, 11th, the school board will vote on a final resolution to decide which of the schools will be closed. >> reporting in san jose jack moment kron 4 news. >> well, now to the latest on those deadly wildfires burning in southern cal fire is reporting that the massive palisades fire in la county is now responsible for killing 8 people. that's one more then was reported yesterday. burning more than 23,000 acres. it's currently at 19% containment. it's also destroyed more than 10,000 structures. meanwhile, the nearby eaton fire burning in altadena. that one is scorched more than 14,000 acres. it's 45% contained right now. cal fire is says it. that fire has killed 17 people in destroyed at least 7 1000 structures. we'll keep you updated on these fires throughout the morning. but if you add it up between those 2 fires, we have a total of about. 25 people

now killed in these fires in the bay area. people are coming together to try to do what we can to help those who are in southern california have nothing left because of the fires. yeah. >> clothes on their backs. all they have man is in san francisco, therefore, is holding a donation drive this week proper. sara stinson gives us a look at how successful it's been so far. >> take a look. day 2 of this donation drive in manny's is packed with donations for people wanting to help those affected by the fires in los angeles, the owner making sure each item donated his match with an organization that has requested it. >> the images of loss and devastation are inspiring people in the bay area to step up and help. that includes the owner of manny's in san francisco. >> really boggling my mind. what images i've seen of la. >> many you could. tl says the fire hits close to home as he's from there. devastating. what i've seen happen to my hometown. you could. tl says he decided to host a week-long

donation drive after asking a friend in altadena how he could help. >> word of mouth and tongue. tons of people have come in. and as you can see, we've gotten overwhelming amount of goods donated los angeles organizations have become inundated with donations from all over. so you could. tl says he is making sure that goods they drive down are actually needed. there's a list of organizations requested specific things. we are pairing them with specific drivers. >> and so we're packing their cars with the things that they products, toiletries, non-perishable foods, kids, toys, kids, clothes, new underwear, sleeping goods and sending them directly to these different shelters. and even though southern california faces a long road to recovery, you could tell, says he's confident the bay area will be there every step of the way. this is california. we help each other. we support each other. we love each other. this is in our blood. but i am happy to see people come

san jose. 47 one of the warmest spots over in san francisco at this hour. >> winds are light were in the single digits and it looks like it will stay that way throughout the day. so we have cold mornings and nights. but nice mild afternoon with some sunshine. here is san francisco. daytime highs, low 60's over along the beaches. same for you. low 60's in pacifica, half moon bay over in south san francisco, similar temperatures, maybe a degree warmer. we start to see warmer temperatures as we make our way south. so 64 in mountain view over to santa clara county. that's where you could see some nice, comfortable temperatures close to 70 degrees in santa clara, san jose. morgan hill to the tri valley mid 60's. now low 60's over in our inland communities like livermore and santa rosa, which you will see mid 60's along the bay shore, oakland in san leandro there and walnut creek, los 60's. same for you over in pittsburgh, benicia and filet. whoa. and over in santa rosa.

so very similar temperatures all across the bay area. it's all because we have high pressure in control and notice. we have low pressure down south that's driving those gusty offshore winds. the santa ana winds in southern california. that's keeping the whole state dry here. so we have red flag warnings in place until 6 this evening. part of that is apds which stands for particularly dangerous situation. so we are still monitoring the conditions. we have dangerous, gusty winds that could fan the flames and possibly start new fires down there. back here live in the bay area. sfo. it's pretty quiet here. and here's a look ahead at the 7 day forecast doesn't look like a typical january where lots of sunshine. so just watch out for those cold mornings in the 30's and 40's. i don't see rain any time reyna. >> december fell prey just cut that off to drive times about 25 minutes. now we're back down to 14 as the morning goes on over. that number continues to drop down bay bridge of the toll plaza. the accident is

>> incoming governor, the new governor or the new mayor, i should say. daniel lurie declared the fentanyl state of emergency ordinance in the city. so now what cropper's joy court alive in the city with the story going? >> james and darya the mayor saying if you do drugs here in san francisco, the streets, you are going to be held accountable accountable, rather. let's take a walk through the tenderloin. take a look at these images here. and this is the sort of thing that you find there. people in the streets in plain sight doing drugs right there. and hi and just causing a seat. well, according to the cdc, fentanyl is a synthetic opioid. that's 100 times more powerful than morphine lurie saying that he had a heart wrenching experience last month when he saw babies inside san francisco general hospital suffering from fentanyl exposure, drug crisis. one of the issues the mayor addressed when he joined us on kron 4 news back in december. >> number one, focus on public

safety. i walked 6 street with sfpd last weekend. i'm going to continue to walk the streets and figure out how do we get control again of our streets. we cannot have the open air drug markets and drug dealing and drug use happening in our streets. we have to get people off the street and into mental health and drug treatment, pets. we're gonna work that. and then we need to streamline the bureaucracy. we have to make sure the taxpayers dollars are being spent effectively and efficiently. >> the mayor's office says this new legislation will unlock funding and speed up the hiring process for drug treatment and shelter space. and it will include new behavioral and mental health initiatives. now the mayor is set to unpack this whole initiative with the board of supervisors later on this morning behind closed doors, we expect to hear from the mayor other leaders here at 11 o'clock this morning. for now, back to you. all right, thanks. a lot joy 7.33. is the time.

>> important to my family. >> we want know that the fillmore is upset. and we demand justice. >> and neighbors in the fillmore district pushing back against the upcoming closure of a local safeway store. a group of them marched to city hall tuesday to share their concerns with city leaders. some say it will make accessing fresh groceries. and other essentials in the area a lot more difficult because the next nearest grocery store is more than a mile away. >> it's a full fledge grocery store. you have a yet a meat market. you have a bakery you have a pharmacy. >> now that's safely location is set to close on february 7th. meanwhile, happening today in the east bay, the oakland police commission is going to be hosting a town hall to continue their discussion regarding the role of police pursuits and the policies in town. that's ahead of the town hall. oakland residents and small business owners are gathering to demand an immediate end to this

policy. the group is arguing this policy has led to an increase in suspect fleeing police stops and a surge in burglaries. the rally is set to be held at five-thirty ahead of the town hall beginning at 06:30pm, tonight. that'll be at the east bay church religious science on telegraph happening. >> it's 7.30, for another developing story. we now know the names of the family shot to death in santa rosa. they were discovered at a home earlier this month and now identified as 67 year-old clive goethe. 67 year-old donna goose and their children. 33 year-old raina and 28 year-old cameron deputies say that clive and donna were once married and that rain and cameron where their children and that a gun was found near one of the bodies. they won't say which one had the gun by it. but the victims all found last week. one place when police went to do a welfare check at the home on monarch court. they got a report that the family had

been seen. they went in and found that each member of the family were found with gunshot wounds and they were in different areas of the house. and police conducted a search at a home linked to one of those people in san jose. but they have not said what they found there. it's 7.35, and a 4 year-old girl is in critical condition right now after she was hit by a bullet in vallejo. yeah. kron four's philippe djegan reports that that child was caught. >> in the crossfire. >> vallejo police sergeant richard hollis says patrol officers on special assignment in the crest neighborhood heard gunshots near sawyer street and mark avenue at around 8.30, sunday night. longtime neighbor j little heard the rapid sounds too initially thinking they were firecrackers. officers responded and found dozens of shell casings but no victims. moments later, our operators receive a call from a local hospital reporting that a young zoo for now

arrests vallejo. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> 7.37. the time in san francisco. police are warning now about a recent scam that targets the city's chinese community. police say the people you see on your screen here are some of the suspects they're looking for. this is called a blessing scam. police say scammers tell victims they can provide relief from a curse or illness affecting a family member. if they just put their money and valuables into a bag to be blessed. the scammers then switch out the valuables and tell the victims to open that bag later in order for the blessing to work, according to officers, roughly $374,000 in valuables have been stolen. now in recent months because of this scam. major commuter highway in sonoma county could soon be seeing some big changes. caltrans is pitching a new plan to basically change highway 37, maybe raise it a little bit in some parts. this runs near mare island in vallejo, and it's prone to flooding and congestion. officials are proposing to

replace part of the road that runs over to lake creek and maybe add some new lanes in both the east and westbound directions. the project is expected to cost about 430 million dollars. that money would come from federal and state grants during a community meeting last night. residents asked questions and voiced some of the concerns about the project. >> the caltrans plans seems to reserve toll revenue for road improvements but not public transportation buses and vans are needed. but where's the money going to come from? the solano county transit agency has been asked to provide public transit across we 37, but president, it looks like an unfunded mandate. >> well, in order to maintain the route, caltrans says it's considering making part of the highway toll lane. if all goes through construction could start next year. >> time now 7.39, a city of campbell has a new mayor,

san francisco to put them back up for adoption. up here so that the shelters, the local shelters la have room for the evacuee dogs and the dogs that they find the 10 that are coming wednesday are in addition to sierra and kit 2 of the 4 that arrived from southern california earlier this week there around 7, 8, years old. they their actual guardian passed away. so these dogs were brought to the pasadena humane and put up for adoption. probably a couple weeks before the fire. so we were able to take them when melissa and glenda heard met, phil was taking in additional senior dogs from la. they knew they wanted to volunteer. i mean, i think there's a lot of dogs here who just loving walking and i'm here for it for now. the goal is to get as many of the senior dogs adopted as possible because another 10 will be arriving from southern california on wednesday. and that's just the

disasters in the country's history. government agencies have not released any damage estimates yet. but accuweather is reporting the fires could result in an economic economic loss of 250 to 275 billion dollars. different factors were taken into consideration including businesses, vehicle and infrastructure damage along with long-term health care costs, lost wages and supply chain interruptions. it could take months until we learned the total financial loss as the damage is still being surveyed. and we're also learning more about a first of its kind cancer study being conducted on firefighters on the front lines of the palisades fire. the studies being done by the wildfire conservancy. the international agency classified firefighting as a carcinogenic profession. it's the first study to track how the extreme conditions of wildland and urban firefighting increases the risk of cancer. the initiative is a collaboration with cal fire. the national fire cancer
