up. >> thanks for waking up with us on a chilly wednesday and daria and i'm james. yeah, chilly. certainly temperatures dropping down into the 30's for some. that's what it was like in my neighborhood waking i don't forget the coat. you'll be gael. i good morning. actually. bundle up as you head out the door. we don't even have a frost advisory in the bay area. >> and we're already seeing readings in the 30's and 40's all morning long. so let's take a live look over what it looks like outside. we had plenty of sunshine over at sfo. there is some moderate air quality so could look hazy in some places. current readings out. 35 in livermore. 33 in dublin. that's chilly. and 33 in santa rosa warmed up one degree from the last hour. and we're also seeing 40's spread out there as well. so just bring your jacket as you head out the door throughout the morning in the upper 40's and upper 50's. we will be warming up to the 60's for our

daytime highs today. so plenty of sunshine even know. we started off on a cold with cold mornings back to all right, thank you for that. last hour, we start off with a few accidents. >> spring across our bridges, they were able to get those off. the bridge is fairly quickly. well, now you got residual delays. 18 minutes on the bay bridge. margarita summersville. that's at 13. the golden gate bridge just about to hit 40 as you're traveling from 37, the tolls and a snapshot of those highways across the bay. you're seeing a lot of rain in the east bay long, 80, howie, for 8.80. we're tracking that wednesday morning commute. all right, james, we'll send it over to you. thank you. reyna 8 o'clock. and in the south bay, 3 people were killed, including a 17 year-old in a crash that happened. gilroy fchp says 2 other people were hurt as well. >> kron four's will tran with the very latest now will. >> james, i tal ed to the chp and new information pass along along with that 17 year-old boy, we do know that it was a male. he was a male. another

person was also a teenager. so 2 teenagers and 2 other people in one car. we do know that accident took place about 4 miles from this location. sorry wasn't long before the chp got to the scene. let me show you a map of the location. this is on shore ro and lake. this is about 10 miles skews me. 10 minutes from this location. it went down at around 6.55. last night. we do know that one car actually cross the center line and slammed into the other car and that other car carried for people. let me show you video. this is the exact area. look at how dark it is this morning. that's the time we shot at around 05:30am, in the morning. so this accident 6, 55 at night just as dart. and i mentioned that because they will be looking to see whether or not disability played a role in it because there are no street lights along that

area. we do know that 3 people in one car were killed. the driver and 2 passengers, including that 17 year-old boy and then the other car had one person. the driver head-on collision. it appears. and then those 2 people, the driver and the front right passenger of the car carrying 4 people that person miraculously survived. both of them rushed to the hospital. and at last check still listed in serious condition. we don't know the cause yet. they're looking into speed, alcohol disability. i have plan for an interview with the chp spokesman at 9 o'clock. and we will get a live interview from him in about one hour from now, hoping to get more details on this horrific accident. back to you. all right. thank you so much. well, 803, is the time now in the east bay. a person is dead after a shooting in oakland. it happened just before 9 o'clock tuesday morning on

east 12th street. >> right around the corner from international boulevard. police say the victim was taken to the hospital where they later died. one person has been detained in that shooting. meanwhile, we're also learning that another person was shot in oakland this time at about 1 o'clock tuesday afternoon on linden street, right near 10th street. that victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. no word if any arrests have been made yet. it's 803, and the alameda county board of supervisors is moving forward. >> with selling its share of the oakland coliseum to a local development group. the sale to the african american sports and entertainment group is not complete just yet, but they did clear a hurdle yesterday coming to terms with a sheet that contains this specific conditions under which the deal can proceed. and one of those conditions requires the release of the county from liability of any possible hazardous waste cleanup at the coliseum site. the county in cg now have 30

days to wrap up any remaining details of the sale. san jose city leaders are uniting with the community to strengthen immigrant protections ahead of the trump administration taking office. council members will be introducing what they want to do in a rules committee meeting and that will talk about addressing the federal immigration enforcement concerns that are coming up is there could be a big clamp down from the feds and how the city and the county will respond to that. they're going to gather at city hall at 1 o'clock this afternoon. and then take a vote on the recommendations at 02:00pm today. it's 804, and a santa's a school named after a september 11 hero is facing possible closure have the talk of closures coming as the school district is trying to cope with what amounts to a 40% decline in enrollment over the last 15 years. dollars moment has more. >> nestled under the san jose international airports. flight

path is an american hero cemented into history. so yeah, it's really tough seeing some of those schools, captain jason elementary is named after the pilot of flight 93, which was taken over by hijackers and set to crash into the capitol on 9/11/2001, but crew and passengers took over and saved countless lives crashing into a field in pennsylvania. dole's legacy has been living on in his hometown as the namesake of this school, which is now one of several schools that could be close. franklin mckinley school district says it's faced with a severely declining enrollment. my first. started teaching at bridges. it was fair. and i think there were like 80900 students who richard brooks teaches at the district and says the decline in enrollment has been going on for years. and i know parents are worried about. >> their schools because they're, you know, pretty much community centers. and while his school bridges academy is not on the chopping block, he has a personal tie to dall elementary's. i attended there when i was a child. i had a long history. there was nice

to see honor for the 9.11 victims and for you know, james don't self. so it's kind of sad to see something that i thought to be around forever. and the community, you know, possibly going away forever. the district telling kron for news in a statement, quote, at this time, no decisions have been made regarding which school sites will be impacted if captain jason and dodd elementary is selected for closure, we remain deeply committed to honoring and celebrating the legacy of kept and all. and for brooks, he hopes whatever closures do happen. >> aren't too the community, you know, and knowing about it makes a little bit tougher for the kids to focus because >> they wonder about the future a little bit. the district tells me that there are a minimum of 5 schools that could face being closed. and coming up on february, 11th, the school board will vote on a final resolution to decide which of those schools will be closed. >> reporting in san jose jack moment kron 4 news. well, they do 7. let's get the latest now on those deadly wildfires burning in southern california. cal fire reporting

now the massive palisades fire in los angeles county is now responsible for killing. >> 8 people and burning more than 23,000 acres. it's currently 19% contained. that's actually gone up during a broadcast this morning. it's also the strike with a 10,000 structures. and the fire burning in altadena. the eaton fire. that fire has scorched more than 14,000 acres. it's 45% contained. that number also going up this morning. cal fire says it has killed those 17 people and destroyed at least 7,000 structures. combine that with the pallet palisades fire. and we're looking at about 25 people killed so far and they're still a couple dozen people missing, at least according to be sheriff for la county has at their press conference last night near the bay area. everybody's doing what they can to help those in southern california who lost everything in the fires. yeah. so. >> with nothing more than the clothes on their backs, we've got man is in san francisco, helping them out. they've been conducting a donation drive and it's been pretty

successful. yeah. cropper assistance to takes a closer look at. >> take a look. day 2 of this donation drive in manny's is packed with donations for people wanting to help those affected by the fires in los angeles. the owner making sure each item donated his match with an organization that has requested it. >> the images of loss and devastation are inspiring people in the bay area to step up and help. that includes the owner of manny's in san francisco. >> really boggling my mind. what images i've seen of many you could. tl says the fire hits close to home as he's from there. devastating. what i've seen happen to my hometown. you could. tl says he decided to host a week-long donation drive after asking a friend in altadena. >> how he could help. >> word of mouth and tongue. tons of people have come in. and as you can see, we've gotten overwhelming amount of goods donated los angeles organizations have become inundated with donations from

all over. so you could. tl says he is making sure that goods they drive down are actually needed. there's a list of organizations requested specific things. we are pairing them with specific drivers. >> and so we're packing their cars with the things that they need, feminine hygiene products, toiletries, non-perishable foods, kids, toys, kids, clothes, new underwear, sleeping goods and sending them directly to these different shelters. and even though southern california faces a long road to recovery, you could tell, says he's confident the bay area will be there every step of the way. this is california. we help each other. we support each other. we love each other. this is in our blood. but i am happy to see people come together and and donate what they can. >> definitely heartwarming to see. you can drop off items anytime between 08:00am and 08:00pm wednesday and thursday. and the donation drive goes until friday at noon. if you want to volunteer to drive items, dour help out in any way you can head to welcome to manny's instagram

>> mostly clear skies or you can see the sunshine and they were go, which has been one of the warmest spots all morning sitting at 47 degrees right now. but more in the 30's, as you make your way towards santa rosa and concord and livermore. so still chilly out there and winds that we are seeing breezy conditions in the hills. but over at the surface, we're seeing some calm wind speeds. so not the breezy conditions. we thought earlier this week and these are the daytime high. so we start off with some chilly temperatures and then we warm up with plenty of sunshine in

the afternoon to the low 60's mid-sixties and the warmest spots tend to be over by san jose close to 70 degrees in the south bay. and you may notice hazy out there. so we have moderate air quality today. so if you're in that sensitive group, keep that in mind. we have high pressure taking over and that lack of the surface flow as well. you know, keeping thing stagnant. but down south, a different story with those gusty offshore winds. those santa ana winds that's been driving the wildfires for the last week or so. the 2 major wildfires palisades on the west and the ian fire on the east. now with the winds are pretty calm right now. but around the area, we are seeing 20 miles per hour wind gusts. we did see some strong winds earlier in the morning. they're still critical fire danger out there in ventura and los angeles counties even apds until about 3 o'clock. that's a particularly dangerous situation. pit things in perspective that they're very rare and we may only get issued by the national weather service when our tornado so los angeles has had a few in recent months

back here in the bay area, you could see that haze out in the berkeley hills, but the weather pattern really not going to change all that much towards the weekend. we cool down the early next week. but as you can see, plenty of sunshine and chilly mornings ahead. as for rain, i don't see rain in the long term forecast anytime soon. reyna. >> we've certainly seen a lot more traffic out there read across our highways like the south bay. look at this. almost 60 minute traveling from 85 up to menlo park. 2, 80 82 into 37. now we're starting to see a little more congestion there down from 25 to about 40 minutes on the bay bridge and the earlier hours we had an accident there. but that's long gone. check out the east bay seeing a lot of traffic there. 55 it right landed to 37 18. 82 oakland, both busy international might be a good option right now. 32 min right along 80 crockett out towards the maze and traffic starts to really bill

soon. as you hit san pablo and it doesn't really ease up at all. as you're making your way into oakland darya. james, back to you. >> it's 16 is the time. thank you. reyna in san francisco, a mother now has been convicted of mayhem after her. 2 year-old daughter suffered severe burns. the district attorney's office says that really should give or allowed her daughter to suffer from burns covering half her body last july. they say the mother waited 2 weeks to get medical help for her daughter. who's now permanently disfigured as a result. investigators didn't say how the victim was burned. she spent months at the hospital undergoing treatment. devora set to be sentenced on february 4th. it's 16 and campbell police say they have arrested a man now in connection with the vandalism of the city's water tower. so officials were called out sunday to reports of a person on top of the water tower. they ordered that person to get down. but they didn't comply right away and they're resuming in on the person when he finally did climb down to try to run away but was caught by police and arrested. police

have reported that that towers been vandalized 3 times since christmas. they didn't say if anything was written, but they did say the suspect caused damage that had to be repaired. >> it's 8.17, in the west contra costa unified school district is facing some big financial challenges, including the threat of a state takeover. the district which serves about 30,000 students in richmond, el serino and surrounding areas is dealing with a budget deficit and declining enrollment. the district could go insolvent within 3 years. if they don't make changes. the interim superintendent says the district needs to cut 13 million dollars over the next 2 years. and to avoid more staffing cuts. they are launching a campaign to boost attendance, which directly impacts state funding. the district is hoping new leadership and fresh strategies can turn things around. >> well, community in san francisco is demanding the

city save a local safeway store. they say if it closes, they'll have nowhere else to shop. so they're asking city leaders to step in. let's take a closer look at the battle with kron lezla gooden. >> it's really important to my family. >> we want know that the fillmore is upset. and we demand we've been through 50 years and probably more injustice in the film or so. we will just year the days are counting down for this safeway in the fillmore. >> the grocery store, according to the community here, serves as a staple and its departure is devastating to them was not just a grocery store. it's a full fledge grocery store. you have a you have a meat market. you have a bakery >> you have a pharmacy. i mean, he added banking. it was from, left, you know, so it is the only goal doing not i'm a little. on tuesday, a community rally was held demanding a call to action. >> from local leaders to address the pending closure

not playing with demanding the grocery giant announced last month. >> it would close on february 7th until then the community says they will push to keep their safe way. let's look at in kron. 4 news. >> in 20 is the time in the east bay. a federal judge in oakland has postponed a hearing on elon musk's lawsuit against openai because of the southern california wildfires. so musk is trying to prevent openai from becoming a for-profit company. it's currently a nonprofit. their next hearing was scheduled for february 4th, but that's now been postponed after the offices of musk's lawyers burned down in the palisades fire. now musk helped co-found openai before leaving the company to start his own ai company in 2023. and he's accusing openai ceo sam altman of abandoning the original mission of developing ai for the benefit of humanity. musk case last year. then withdrew it last summer only to refile it. 2 months later with a new lawyer in federal court in san francisco. more developing

news now. there's a shakeup at meta last week as we know the menlo park based company announced they'd be getting rid of fact. checking. well, now bloomberg is reporting that the ceo mark zuckerberg plans on cutting 5% of his workforce, which comes to about 3600 people. zuckerberg says he made the decision in order to cut low performers. mark zuckerberg, the ceo believes they have to work. >> more quickly to weed out what he's calling loper former. so getting much more aggressive in the means by which they do. these performance-based reviews. and i think that's a trend we may see more of in silicon valley. >> you some people believe the real motive behind this move is for company to focus more on artificial intelligence. we have reached out to meta world. but, you know, when we hear back. >> a 22. and still ahead, san francisco wants you to know about the latest scam targeting the chinese community. >> it involves a blessing and

>> new this morning, the fda has just banned red dye number 3 from the food supply. they granted a 2022 petition filed by consumer advocates just this morning, the group argued some studies find that that

particular die causes cancer in lab rat. this comes nearly 35 years after it was banned from cosmetics because of its potential cancer risk food manufacturers have until january of 2027 to remove that red dye from their products makers of ingested drugs have until january of 2028. to take the red dye out of their products. and the fda is also proposing requiring new nutrition labels on the front of food and beverage products that is aimed at changing eating habits associated with the soaring rate of obesity and diet related illnesses. the plan is designed so that people can easily read the contents of a food item because, you know, she flipped it over. i read that tiny i can't read. that's just going to be bigger right on the front like that. >> all right. a new lawsuit says the capital one cheated account holders out of more than 2 billion dollars in interest payments. the suit

kill a person. mayor larry saying he had a heart wrenching experience just last month, seeing babies inside san francisco general hospital suffering from internal exposure. we spoke with taxpayers this morning who encounter people high on the streets and they're fed up. it's pretty bad. >> me what you got people just laying on street. so just hang around homeless people. evident that work for this construction company and we built a lot of affordable housing and like transitional housing here in the city. >> and we're finding that like. >> a lot of them just don't want it. the mayor's office says this legislation will unlock funding and will speed up the hiring process for drug treatment and shelter space. >> it will include new behavioral and mental health initiatives. now the mayor is meeting with the board of supervisors this morning to discuss this issue and what he wants to do about it. we expect to hear from them

received a response. >> and i don't see saying one fe out with stop prevent things only thing i thought prime is down. oakland and look make you got to be kidding at this all to injury. >> kron four's lindsey ford reporting the owner, a place the doors to both the gas stations. but he's still worried about the robbers coming back. >> well, happening today, the east bay, the local police commission is going to be hosting a town hall as they continue discussing whether to change their police pursuit policy. now, currently, police do not chase suspects on city streets. the head of the town hall, oakland residents and small business owners will be gathering to demand an end to that policy. the group argues that not chasing criminals has led to an increase in suspects flee police stops and the surgeon burglaries. the rally is going to be held at 5.30, just before the town hall at 06:30pm, tonight. it will be held at the east bay church of religious science on telegraph

avenue. it's a 35 another developing story. we now know the names of the family. >> who was found shot to death in their home in santa rosa earlier this month. they are identified as 67 year-old clive goes, 67 year-old donna guth both 67 and then their children raina and cameron to 33 28 years old. the deputies say that clive and donna were once married and that they went and because they're doing a welfare check and found the family inside the home shot to death and there was a gun found near one of the bodies. they didn't specify who that gun was next to the victims were found last week at a home on monarch court. again, people and had reported they hadn't seen the family in a while. so the police went in. they found each person had died of gunshot wounds and they were in different areas of the house. and police also

conducted a search of a home that was linked to one of those people in san jose, though they did not say what that search resulted in. a 4 year-old girl is in critical condition after being hit by at least one bullet in vallejo. the shooting happened in this neighborhood. the see here around 8.30, sunday night, marc avenue near fairgrounds, drive. there were gunshots. heard people call the police at first they thought it was firecrackers and then police found dozens of shell casings on the ground in that neighborhood. and a young girl was admitted to hospital that night. police have not released any descriptions of the shooters. >> in san francisco, police are warning now about a recent scam that's been targeting the city's chinese community. police say the people on your screen are some of the suspects they're looking for in this blessing scam. police say scammers tell victims they can provide relief from a curse or an illness affecting family members. telling the

victims to put their money and valuables into a bag for blessings. well, the scammers then switch out the valuables hand the back back to the victims and tell the victims not to open that back to later for the blessing to work. according to officers, roughly $374,000 in valuables have been stolen recent months because of this scam. it's 8.37 and city of campbell now has a new mayor lifts sergio lopez. >> and he becomes the city's first latino mayor as well. and he says he's aiming to tackle the cost of living challenges. among other things in 2023 us cents a day to show that 19% of campbell's population identifies as latino or hispanic and the goals of the mayor include addressing climate change, public safety and maintaining the cities, momentum and housing and homelessness. and up to the north for the first time in its 175 years in history, marin county now has its first black supervisor.

bryan colbert was officially sworn in at tuesday's board meeting by his daughter. she gave him the oath cold air previously had served as the mayor of san anselmo before he ran for the board of supervisors and he says it is very significant that he is the first black supervisor. >> it's important that people recognize it. but i think with larger context shows. regardless of their background or what might happen to be the color of their skin. our attribute new not be held back. if you're willing to engage and work hard and behalf of the community, the community will respond to that. >> culver's district encompasses fairfax canfield, green bray san anselmo and ross. he says his focus is going to be on wildfire. preparation making the infrastructure more green and making the accountable more affordable for working families.

>> well, a major commuter highway in sonoma county could soon be seeing some changes. caltrans is pitching a new plan to sort of reconfigure highway. 37, this runs right near mare island in vallejo, and it's prone to flooding and congestion. and so officials are now proposing may be replacing part of the road that runs right now over a total. a creek they might think about adding some new lanes in both east and westbound directions. the project as it stands is expected to cost about 430 million dollars. that money we're told, will come from federal and state grants during a community meeting last night to residents ask questions and voiced some of their concerns about the project. >> the caltrans plans seems to reserve toll revenue for road improvements but not public transportation buses and vans are needed. but where's the money going to come from? the solano county transit agency has been asked to provide public transit across we 37,

blue skies over at san francisco. we are still chilly out there. san francisco still warm in the 47 degrees all morning. but 30's, low 30's in santa rosa and livermore. >> half moon bay has warmed up as well from the 30's. but we're off to a chilly start. i am seeing breezy conditions in the hills, but calm conditions over at the surface. we're seeing single digit wind speeds here. so not the case in southern california will get to that in a bit. but here are your daytime highs. plenty of sunshine in the 60's. low 60's for you in livermore in antioch, mid 60's along the bay shore, oakland, hayward, fremont and over by the coast. also low 60's and safe for you in santa rosa. so similar

temperatures we have been seeing mild comfortable temperatures in the afternoon because we are starting. we haven't starting off with some chilly temperatures in the morning and it dips down once again in the evening. notice the hazy conditions depending where you are. we have moderate air quality. it's all due to high pressure that lack of the surface flow. and that's keeping us mild and dry. the low pressure down south is still driving those gusty offshore santa ana winds that's been fueling the fires in la and ventura counties. so wind speeds along the 2 main fires are calm, but over by the hills, we're seeing a 24 miles per red simi valley. and i did see some wind gusts pick up and and a 40 mile per hour range in the mountains in the morning. that is why there is a red flag warning in place for both counties until 6 this evening. part of that includes apds red-flag warning. so that's particularly dangerous situation. put things in perspective have been talking about this all morning. and that's only issued when there

are tornado. so even though today's the last windy day in the forecast, there are still critical fire weather conditions out there. so hoping for the best for the firefighters and everyone out in southern california back here in the bay area. we could see that haze here along from the berkeley hills. but other than that, we have some quiet weather and we are above average with temperatures and drier than normal for the foreseeable future. so we have cold mornings and evenings and mild. sunny afternoon priya. >> bay area, highways, bridges. and as you can see. >> 8 o'clock hour bought a whole lot more traffic with the longer see a lot more red on the map. 80 highway for a 18 5.80, overall plan along wanted to 80 traveling along the peninsula in the south bay. we're seeing that congestion out there hoping the 9 o'clock hour we start to see those drive times dip down a little bit. 15 minutes on the bay bridge right now. if you are going to be traveling along south on 6.80, doubling down of fremont around 30 minutes. the air. so not

tomorrow. when we get to meet 10 new ones all sizes, all shapes, but all fall over 7 muttville senior dog rescue founder sherri franklin is talking about the arrival wednesday of 10 more senior dogs from fire-ravaged southern california. we're taking dogs that were at the shelter and up for adoption at the shelter and we are taking those shots and we're just integrating them up here to san francisco to put them back up for adoption. up here so that the shelters, the local shelters la have room for the evacuee dogs and the dogs that they find the 10 that are coming wednesday are in addition to sierra and kit 2 of the 4 that arrived from southern california earlier this week there around 7, 8, years old. they their actual guardian passed away. so these dogs were brought to the pasadena humane and put up for adoption. probably a couple weeks before the fire. so we

were able to take them when melissa and glenda heard met, phil was taking in additional senior dogs from la. they knew they wanted to volunteer. i mean, i think there's a lot of dogs here who just loving walking and i'm here for it for now. the goal is to get as many of the senior dogs adopted as possible because another 10 will be arriving from southern california on wednesday. and that's just the beginning. i think we're probably going to get about 50 of of these stocks and that's above and beyond our normal intake. so we're really excited to be able to help. so if you've been thinking about adopting, especially a senior dog like this guy now is a great time. open tuesday through sunday from 10 to 5 in san francisco. dan kerman kron, 4 news and speaking dogs, 2 local teams of specially trained dogs in the bay area. >> are on their way to la to help. they are from the search dog foundation and they'll be
