[theme music] nischelle turner (voiceover): tonight-- [scream] --halle berry. the pressure. it's the pressure. nischelle turner (voiceover): her hollywood rise-- i'm just on for the ride. nischelle turner (voiceover): --from pageant queen-- i was just looked at as sort of a pretty face. nischelle turner (voiceover): --to a historic oscar winner. this door tonight has been opened. nischelle turner (voiceover): breaking down
11:31 pm
barriers along the way. this role was written for a white male. nischelle turner (voiceover): the best moments from et's more than 250 interviews with halle on the set of her first tv show-- i've got a zit! i've got a zit! nischelle turner (voiceover): --and some of her biggest blockbusters. and i literally can get no air. i'm just (gasping). nischelle turner (voiceover): what you never knew about the model turned action star. [grunting] plus, the role that changed her life forever. you don't go back to the person you were before you have children. nischelle turner (voiceover): this is et vault unlocked: halle berry. i'm doing it all, you know? why not? nischelle turner: halle berry, this is your life. welcome, everyone to entertainment tonight. no show has followed halle's hollywood career like et. she's a mother, a movie star, and a certified hollywood trailblazer. ok, my real name is halle berry. hang on to something. hello? we're on the same side. (singing) flintstones, meet the flintstones.
11:32 pm
i dreamt i always wanted to be a successful actress. i wanted to just work as an actress, actually. announcer: halle berry. [cheering] this is those things that your fairy tale dreams are made of. sometimes i pinch myself and say yeah, it's real. it's happening. interviewer: because it wasn't easy. no, it wasn't. and it's still not easy. it's still a struggle. nischelle turner (voiceover): she's been called "one of the most beautiful women in the world" and "sexiest woman alive." but really, halle berry is a game changer. she made history in 2002 as the first black woman to win a best actress oscar ever. halle berry, monster's ball. [cheering] this moment is so much bigger than me. it's for every nameless, faceless woman of color that now has a chance. because this door tonight has been opened. [cheering] i just spoke from my heart, and it
11:33 pm
was a night that changed the course of my life. [cheering] i lost my purse. reporter: where did you lose your purse? it was on my lap when they called my name and it dropped. and my family was out of their head and nobody picked it up for me. nischelle turner (voiceover): halle had been in hollywood for 13 years by then, and before the decade was out, she commanded a reported $10 million per film. interviewer: you are the highest paid black actress in movies. is that like-- that's not true. whoopi goldberg is. she's the highest paid. maybe i'm second or third. you don't believe everything you see on tv, do you? nischelle turner (voiceover): but it was never about the paycheck for halle. the real goal was breaking down barriers for women of color one role at a time. halle berry: i really think that's what acting is all about, exploring all the parts of yourself. nischelle turner (voiceover): but long before halle found hollywood stardom, she was just a kid living in cleveland, ohio, who had dreams of becoming a journalist. like barbara walters or just a newscaster. just something on television.
11:34 pm
i knew that i liked television. i liked the camera. nischelle turner (voiceover): halle's upbringing wasn't easy. her dad left when she was young, and she experienced bullying at school. even with my white mother, i still felt the racial tension. when i came home with, mommy, this is what they said at school, and she sat me down and she said, look in the mirror. what do you see? and i saw a black little girl. and she said, that's who you are, but be proud of that. nischelle turner (voiceover): at 17, halle got a taste of the spotlight, competing in beauty pageants. in 1986, she was the miss usa first runner up. i was a beauty pageant queen, and then i started modeling in chicago, and i met my manager. he encouraged me to move to new york and start studying acting, and i did. and i got a television show, living in new york, which moved me to la because that's where the television show was shot, living dolls. [theme music] little girl, it's amazing the way you light up the screen
11:35 pm
i've got a zit! i've got a zit! nischelle turner (voiceover): et was . the short-lived who's the boss? spinoff also starred leah remini. halle berry: that was my break as far as my entry into the business, but my big break, i think, in the business was definitely jungle fever. i played a crack addict in that film, which a lot of people didn't expect me to do. i'm a junkie crackhead. nischelle turner (voiceover): director spike lee had wanted to cast halle as his wife in the 1991 cult classic, but she fought to play the grungier role, doing research at a real crack house. after beauty pageants, it was really tough, because i was just looked at as sort of a pretty face. and that's why i did jungle fever, because i got a chance to shed all that. david alan grier: halle berry! martin, see. oh, man. my goodness, girl. how you doing? my name is david alan grier. i'm martin lawrence. let me tell you right now, she throws down. this girl can act. who said that? nischelle turner (voiceover): halle
11:36 pm
landed her first hit rom com role in 1992's boomerang, alongside eddie murphy. the movie had a primarily black cast, and its $42 million budget was one of the largest for a black film at that time. i think it's good to see. i think that means that we're moving in the right direction, that studios are feeling confident in the fact that black people have very important stories to tell that don't deal with drugs and violence. and this story has nothing to do with that. nischelle turner (voiceover): from the start, halle made it her priority to tell those important stories. she drew on her own experiences to play a biracial slave in the emmy-nominated miniseries queen. he ain't my master, he my pappy. how dare you speak to me like that. halle berry: i'm always looking for things to say that, hey, i'm a real actress here. i'm a thespian. nischelle turner (voiceover): this marked halle's first lead role, and the first time she was seriously injured on set, breaking her tailbone. my dress got caught in something in the doorway, and the horse kept riding, and i just fell backwards looking at the stars. and i was never able to get back up to get control of the horse again. took a fall.
11:37 pm
nischelle turner (voiceover): but halle's star was on the rise. throughout the '90s, she stayed in high demand, booking back-to-back projects. five years ago, i wouldn't have thought it would be happening for me or any other black woman in the united states. so i feel really, really blessed that i'm able to do what i'm doing. you're not irish. so i lied. halle berry: this role was written for a white male, and the fact that i was able to maneuver my way in is part of what i'm trying to do right now is to do maybe smaller roles, but that weren't necessarily written for a black female. nischelle turner (voiceover): in father hood, halle played a journalist opposite patrick swayze. then she was a sexy secretary in the flintstones. am i interrupting? not at all. nischelle turner (voiceover): for her first thriller, she starred alongside kurt russell as a flight attendant in executive decision. i'm trying to find roles that are different to sort of stretch and try new things and try to enjoy what i'm doing. uh, uh, that was good, but you might want to go on home now because i'm here. [music playing] go left, go right go left, right, left, right
11:38 pm
nischelle turner (voiceover): et was on set as halle rocked a blonde wig and got down on the dance floor in her first comedy, the cult hit baps, black-american princesses. halle berry: i watched a lot of i love lucy tapes. lucy did a lot of physical comedy, and i'm trying to get loose with my face, with my body. nischelle turner (voiceover): but despite establishing a successful acting resume, halle wanted more. i'm producing my first project early next year, the dorothy dandridge story for hbo. you make it possible for it to be different next time for somebody else. halle berry: dorothy dandridge is the first black woman to be nominated for an academy award in the leading lady category, and she's definitely a pioneer. [music playing] halle berry, introducing dorothy dandridge. halle berry: what this night will always be remembered for for me is the night hollywood accepted me for more than a beauty, but for an actress that's been working so hard to become better
11:39 pm
and to be honest in her work. nischelle turner (voiceover): the role not only earned halle her first golden globe award, she also won a primetime emmy. halle berry, introducing dorothy dandridge. halle berry: it's just unbelievable, and i'm so proud and thankful and excited about what the future holds. and for black actresses, things are really starting to change for us. and it's just an exciting time. nischelle turner (voiceover): and there were more exciting times ahead for halle. the 2000s kicked off a new chapter in her career-- action star. interviewer: is it hard doing a movie like this that already has a huge fan base? the pressure. oh my god. i mean, the first day that i knew that i had the job, somebody told me, you know, storm is one of the most beloved characters. and i went oh, great, thank you. nischelle turner (voiceover): halle almost didn't play storm in the x-men franchise. the role was actually offered to janet jackson,
11:40 pm
but she turned it down to go on tour. still, when it came to casting a new bond girl, no audition was needed. magnificent view. it is, isn't it? we're in iceland in an ice palace hotel, and it's freezing. nischelle turner (voiceover): et was with halle on set, and she told us while filming a stunt explosion, a piece of debris scratched her cornea. oh, and that scene where she was seducing 007? well, it didn't go as planned either. this says i'm good. i started cutting this fig. i'm cutting a fig in our love scene, and it gets lodged in my throat. and i literally can get no air. i'm just (gasping). and pierce, right away, jumps up, hits me, and out comes the fig. nischelle turner (voiceover): with that kind of commitment to every role, it's no surprise halle has actually faced quite a few injuries on set. in 2003's gothika, robert downey jr. accidentally broke her arm during this scene, delaying shooting for eight weeks. wait, wait! get away from me! wait!
11:41 pm
nischelle turner (voiceover): she also broke three ribs filming john wick: chapter 3, and two more during her directorial debut, the mma drama bruised. and while she didn't get hurt in her most recent action comedy, the union, she did push co-star mark wahlberg to do more of his own stunts. who picked up the stunt work faster, you or mark? i'm going to go with me. i didn't want to do a stunt. i'd get the luck. and then she was already doing it. she would definitely refuse somebody's stunt again, so then i would have to go and do it regardless. nischelle turner (voiceover): still ahead-- i was very unpredictable. people addressed me differently. nischelle turner (voiceover): --halle shares secrets from the sets of some of her most memorable movie roles. i was really ambivalent about the nudity. nischelle turner (voiceover): plus, the iconic way she accepted a razzie award. i never in my life thought i would be up here. [laughter] nischelle turner (voiceover): then, what caused her to fall into a coma for a week.

usic playing] holly just like, downed an entire, like, pint of bourbon in front of everybody. so that was-- that was a little crazy. she stayed vertical for longer than we would have imagined. [crowd cheering]
11:45 pm
did you really just bang down all that bourbon? i never drink until. nischelle turner: the year? 2017. halle berry shocked comic-con and her co-stars from the kingsman-- the golden circle with her drinking skills. but listen, anyone who has worked with an icon like halle knows everything she does is full throttle. [music playing] (singing) one time every time i put on that suit, i felt a sense of this surreal power. people dressed me differently. they stayed a foot or two further away than normal. i was very unpredictable. nischelle turner: halle spent months training for catwoman, not only learning brazilian martial arts, but actually living as a cat, crawling around her house and trying to jump on the counter. [roars] [grunts] [music playing] she was reportedly paid $12.5 million for the role, but the movie was considered a flop. and when haley accepted a razzie award for her performance, she was holding her oscar. [crowd cheering] oh, my gosh.
11:46 pm
[crowd cheering] nischelle turner: over the years, halle's had some memorable performances opposite other a-listers, like bruce willis-- nice dress. nice party. nischelle turner: tom hanks-- will not survive. nischelle turner: and john travolta. it was actually in 2001's swordfish that halle first gave fans some not safe for work scenes, going topless. i was really, you know, ambivalent about the-- about the nudity, so i said no. and then it came back to me. i said, you know, maybe it is time. and i took the risk. this looks friendly. you know me. i'm a friendly girl. there was a day when i used to say, we can use a body double. but now, after doing my own scenes in this movie, the feeling is a very empowering feeling. [music playing] nischelle turner: coming up-- i like to dress up just like a big kid. --halle's most memorable red carpet looks and the beauty advice she swears by. that's what i always have to do. nischelle turner: plus, why she turned down it's the pressure!

well, she says-- nischelle turner: halle in hysterics, and going viral in 2024 for desperately trying to get her shirt off with an assist from her wardrobe stylist. oh! my hair. ow! because it looked good. ok. hold on! who's the designer? anna quan. anna quan, we might have to cut this [bleep] off. nischelle turner: ah, i've been there before. halle is just like us. and if halle has taught us anything about her style over the years, ms. berry is always in beauty beast mode. [music playing] just give me a beautiful gown to wear, free food and drinks, and that's pretty good to me. [music playing] my dress is by valentino. [crowd cheering] reporter: that is some dress! la perla. [music playing]
11:51 pm
i feel a little old hollywood. it reminded me a little bit of audrey hepburn. nischelle turner: never afraid to take risks, halle has been serving iconic looks since she first stepped on the scene back in 1989. and who could forget the sheer burgundy gown she wore during her historic oscar win? i'm wearing a dress by elie saab and jewels by harry winston. nischelle turner: halle wore the dress again in november for a fashion show, 22 years later. some other memorable moments on the carpet, this sparkly mini fit for a bond girl at the die another day premiere, her first met gala in a versace jumpsuit, and another versace number at the 2017 oscars. reporter: what do you do when you get dressed? tape my up. [laughter] tape them up. (singing) they know i'm the bomb nischelle turner: and halle is one of those people who can rock any hairstyle, from her signature pixie cut to curls and even platinum blonde. i mean, having no hair, being practically a bald woman,
11:52 pm
and that-- it's always fun when i get to wear wigs, and do different lengths of hair and hair color, and all that stuff. nischelle turner: as for the best beauty advice she's ever gotten, that was from her mom, who told her to wear a bra 24 hours a day, something halle swears by. and when it comes to her workouts, well, those have evolved over the years. halle revealing she started to prioritize feeling fit over looking fit. but the one thing that hasn't changed? beauty really does come from within, and i think there's a sparkle in someone's eye that makes them beautiful. it's a smile on their face. it's an attitude. that's just as beautiful as all of this stuff. nischelle turner: and while halle is undeniably beautiful, there are some things about her you may not know. i am diabetic, so anytime there's a chance to go out and support an organization that supports finding a cure for diabetes, it always interests me. nischelle turner: back when she halle fell into a coma for seven days and was then diagnosed with diabetes. i've always taken it very seriously.
11:53 pm
i mean, from the beginning. and i've never had it interfere with work or my lifestyle, really. halle was actually born maria halle berry. her middle name was a nod to a department store in cleveland. when she was five, her name was legally changed to halle maria. as for one of her first jobs? i used to work at the cookie barn. i was making cookies. [laughter] reporter: what was your title at the cookie barn? the head cookie maker. reporter: you were. nischelle turner: some other fast facts-- when we first moved to new york, she briefly lived in a homeless shelter after running out of money. and get this, she turned down sandra bullock's role in speed because, in the original script, the bus never left the parking lot. [accelerating] believe it or not, there's one person who's unimpressed with halle's fame, her 16-year-old daughter nahla. she can't make sense of it yet-- right, you don't want to turn her, and look like, i'm halle berry, girl! right? oh, and she wouldn't even care. nischelle turner: in 2008, halle welcomed her baby girl with ex-boyfriend gabriel aubry. i think having nahla 16 years ago fundamentally changed me.
11:54 pm
and it's like, you don't go back to the person you were before you have children. nischelle turner: by 2015, the actress was a mom of two. she shares her nine-year-old son, maceo, with ex-husband olivier martinez. there's nothing i wouldn't do for my children. nischelle turner: halle's got a lot of love in her life. in addition to her kids, she also has her man of nearly five years, van hunt. he is the man i should have married. i hope i do. nischelle turner: of course, halle first said i do to baseball player david justice and was once mrs. eric benét. now, she's all in with her musician beau. [camera shutters] the duo had a commitment ceremony in 2021 after maceo initiated the special moment in the car. we want to make this official or something? i would love to do that. can we do that right now-- - it is official. - that's right. her son. oh-- - yeah. - you want to make it official. you can tell her. somebody married us. nischelle turner: still ahead, halle, in her own words, there are no mistakes in life. things happen for a reason. [music playing]

provided by--
11:58 pm
why does halle berry's knee look like the face of that guy who came out of the book that harry found in the restricted section at the library at hogwarts? [laughter] [screams] [laughter] you need to stop looking at my knees. the show is up here, from here to here. honestly, halle, you can't be 100% perfect. we leave you now with more gems from halle. goodnight, everybody. sometimes there's a moment when you realize that you're called to do something that's outside of the dream you even dreamed for yourself. i'm a lucky one because i get paid to do what i actually love. and i hope i can do this my whole life. there are no mistakes in life. things happen for a reason. the good things that happen to us, they're because we deserve them. and the bad things that happen to us is because there are lessons to be learned in those trying times. and that it's all good, as long as you don't make the same mistakes over and over and over and over, it's all good and it's all a part of life. 1:02 am
natural supplement that's helping me and women around the globe regain control, confidence, and peace of mind. - with better bladder, my life has changed tremendously. i'm able to be active with the kids. i'm going to my exercise classes and not feel like i have to run to the restroom. - i just love it, i can be myself, i can relax. i can laugh and not worry about if i have a spare pair of pants. - and one point in time, my bladder was running my life. but now, i'm completely in control of my own life. - [announcer] better bladder's natural formula has been clinically shown to improve all the major symptoms of a weak or unpredictable bladder. in a clinical study, 90% of participants reported reduced visits to the bathroom and fewer leaks or accidents. best of all, many saw results in as little as two weeks. today you'll meet dr. michael hyman, a board-certified physician trained at cornell medical school. he is chief of urology at providence st. joseph
1:03 am
medical center and a leading expert on the subject of bladder control. now, join dr. hyman and your host, suzanne setta. - hello and welcome to another edition of restore health naturally. today we're gonna be talking about the challenges of living with a weak and unpredictable bladder. and to help us discuss this very important topic is dr. michael hyman who specializes in these issues. dr. hyman, thank you for being with us today. - thank you for having me, suzanne. - i was actually surprised to find out how common a weak bladder really is. i understand 33 million americans suffer from this. - yeah, and honestly it could be more because so many of these people are embarrassed. they don't want to talk about it. probably every five people you know, one of them has this problem, and if you think about elderly folks, half of them probably have this problem. - that's a lot. well tell us, what are the early signs that you might actually have a weak bladder? - the first sign is probably gonna be urgency. that's that sudden, intense need to go to the bathroom like right now, worried something terrible's gonna happen.
1:04 am
frequency of urination is another sign of a weak or poorly-controlled bladder. that's when you have to go to the bathroom often. like a woman who i can think of who was a waitress, and she would go sometimes every 15, 20 minutes. she couldn't keep her job. - well that's no good. that's awful, as a matter of fact. and they're talking about going during the day. what about at night? because i gotta tell you, once a while, i get up. - [michael] if you're getting up three, four times a night, and you multiply that by 365 days a year that's 1,000 trips to the bathroom. - that's a lot. and people don't like to talk about it because it's embarrassing. - right, right. it's so embarrassing especially when you think about people who have accidents. whether they're coughing or sneezing, or the urgency to get to the bathroom so badly, that you start having an accident. i had a patient once, calling me in tears. a poor woman with her children at disneyland. she couldn't stay in line with her kids because the urge was so intense. so was gonna have an accident, so she spent the day in the infirmary. it could be because the urge is too strong
1:05 am
or because they're coughing or sneezing, but those accidents, that's catastrophic. - so tell us, what are some options for treatment? - until recently, you would start with drugs and then it was going to surgery options. the drugs come with some really uncomfortable side effects, including constipation, dry mouth, dry skin, dry eyes, and upset stomach. some are even linked to causing dementia. because of these serious, severe side effects, and because you basically have to take these drugs indefinitely, the vast majority of people taking them will stop after just a month or two. think about that. people would rather deal with leaks and diapers than deal with side effects of medications. - well then, if not drugs, you would try surgery? - surgery is the final option for us. and it could start with some kind of a procedure in the office, but it's not an easy thing to go through. we have to put a camera into the bladder, make injections into the bladder muscle,
1:06 am
and if that didn't work, we would switch to something called a pacemaker. - oh my gosh. - really, suzanne, the lack of a safe and effective product, one that people will stick with, it's what drove me to search for an alternative that i could actually recommend to my patients. i looked at several natural supplements, but none really made that much of a difference. then i came across a very impressive study in the medical literature on a natural supplement called better bladder. it was helping people in ways i'd never seen before in my 20 years a board-certified urologist. it was really a game-changer. - after better bladder, i don't have that pressure on my bladder anymore. i don't have the sensation that i have to go now. - now that i'm taking better bladder, i'm getting better sleep without rising four, five times in the middle of the night. and during the day at work. one time, 11 o'clock, that's it.
1:07 am
- it works. it was like having a to-do list of everything that was wrong and better bladder made me feel like i just crossed everything off that list, and i don't have to worry anymore. - well dr. hyman, i know that you were very impressed with the science behind better bladder, so tell us specifically what you found. - suzanne, the first thing i do before i recommend any product is to see if there are any clinical studies supporting its effectiveness. if not, well, it's a nonstarter for me. not only did better bladder have a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, the results were far more impressive than i would have ever expected. 86% saw a reduction of urgency. 84% of them had fewer trips to the bathroom at night. 90% went fewer times during the day and almost 94% saw a reduction in those awful leaks and accidents, and best of all, results were seen in as little as two weeks. - it is really exciting to find that kind
1:08 am
of substantiation behind the results for a natural product. is that what won you over? - not entirely. i wanted to see how better bladder was gonna work in my own patients. so i gave it to them. and what i saw was very impressive. it validated everything i read in that study. that's why better bladder is now my first option for helping people with these problems, and that's why i'm here today. - it wasn't enough for you to help your patients. you wanted to get the word out to help everyone. - therabotanics, the company behind better bladder, developed an amazing breakthrough for everyone suffering from these bladder issues. - there are a lot of conditions that people experience that aren't diseases. they're not illnesses that can be cured by science. but which nature has provided simple solutions, simple things that can help us live a healthier,
1:09 am
more fulfilling life. and those are the type of products that we offer at therabotanics. - i used to have to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes, with a degree of urgency i no longer feel. i now can go three, four, and i have gone five hours without stopping to use the restroom. - better bladder allowed me to gain control of my bladder. as a result, i get my life back. - i never have leakage, i never not make it to the bathroom. i always have dry panties, something that i haven't experienced in a long time. - dr. hyman, we've established that this is a really common problem, and one that really negatively affects a person's life. so tell us how this happens, what causes this? - sure, well, suzanne, let's start with the basics. this is a model of the bladder. it's like a hollow ball with thin walls of muscle. now the bladder is a very functional muscle,
1:10 am
and it's activated by our nervous system. as your bladder fills, it's also stretching, and it's the stretching that tells your brain it's time to go to the bathroom. only then, at that specific moment, when your bladder begins to contract does urine come out, and that is normal bladder activity. a calm, quiet, tranquil bladder that remains at rest the vast majority of the time. now sometimes, when it because agitated, it contracts when it is not supposed to. that is what i like to call an irritable bladder. and when your bladder becomes irritable or agitated, you might start thinking about going to the bathroom even when your bladder's only partly full. or it could be even more urgent. i don't care if i miss the movie, i gotta go. and it can become so strong that you actually, omg, i'm leaking. - well how does better bladder help this? - better bladder has three key herbal ingredients
1:11 am
to help calm and relax the bladder muscle which reduces this agitated or irritable state, and the result is less leakage, less urgency, and fewer trips to the bathroom. to be able to get these results as a natural alternative to prescription drugs and their terrible side effects, it's a tremendous breakthrough. - therabotanics has been kind enough to put together a special offer just for our viewers. details are coming ahead. - i've tried the kegel exercises. i've gone to a doctor. they have pharmaceutical drugs which i'm not really into. i tried wearing the little things, the diaper thing, which i hate. i'm a jogger and i can't do it. i'm frustrated, i'm really frustrated. i want back my freedom. i want back the ability to do all the things i really wanna do. i was going to the bathroom all the time. at night, during the day, and it interrupted my life. but now that i've been taking better bladder, i'd have to say i hardly even think about it.
1:12 am
i don't feel the urgency to have to go, and it doesn't interrupt my life or take over my life anymore. now i'm back to jogging, running, and feel confident, and doing all the things i love to do now. - [announcer] does your life revolve around frequent trips to the bathroom? are embarrassing leaks interfering with your life? are you afraid that a sudden cough or sneeze will cause an accident? is your bladder out of control? if you answered yes to any of these questions, then you're likely one of the 33,000,000 men and women suffering from the symptoms of a weak or unpredictable bladder. until now, you had three choices. take prescription drugs with unpleasant side effects, endure expensive and painful surgeries and procedures, or wear bulky and inconvenient adult diapers. now there's a new alternative, better bladder, the doctor-developed natural formula to help both men and women control the major symptoms of a weak and unpredictable bladder. in a placebo-controlled clinical study,
1:13 am
almost 86% saw a reduction in the urge to go, 84% made fewer trips to the bathroom during the night, 90% went fewer times during the day, and almost 94% saw a reduction in those dreaded leaks and accidents. best of all, many saw results in as a little as two weeks. - we're going out to the movies. and i sat through the entire movie. - before i used to have to worry about yoga. just have to worry about leaks, and now i don't, so it's worth it. - [announcer] better bladder is a patented combination of natural herbal ingredients in an easy-to-swallow capsule shown to reduce the symptoms of an unpredictable bladder with no harmful side effects. it contains crateva nurvala to help with age-related changes to the bladder, horsetail, known to help with the ability to control urination, and lindera, a powerful antioxidant to support the nerves and bladder muscles. these ingredients all work together to give you greater control over when and how often you need to go to the bathroom.
1:14 am
and better bladder is manufactured by trusted therabotanics. - when you buy a product from therabotanics, i personally guarantee that there's real science, a real placebo-controlled study that shows that that product is gonna be effective for what you want it to do. - [announcer] what would it be worth to you to regain the confidence and peace of mind that comes from a bladder under your control? surgeries, prescriptions, or even adult diapers could cost you from hundreds to thousands of dollars. but better bladder won't cost you even $100, not even close. a full two month's supply of better bladder is only $39.95 per month, but it won't cost you that today either because through this special tv offer, you can experience the power of better bladder free for 30 days. that's right, free. you only pay shipping and processing. you'll also receive doctor's secrets to a better bladder, with valuable tips and information for anyone living with a weak bladder. plus a free 30-day supply of therabotanics' perfect omega.

(upbeat music) - we're back with dr. michael hyman,
1:16 am
a board-certified physician, chief urologist, and a leading expert on the subject of bladder control. so doctor, tell us, why is loss of bladder control so common? - as a result of the normal aging process, our bladders and the nerves for our bladders are subjected to all kinds of changes throughout life. let's pretend that this is a man's bladder. in some men, the bladder muscle has to strain to push urine out through an enlarged prostate, so the bladder muscle changes over time. and eventually, it's gonna look something like this. and that bladder will start acting inappropriately. and it will start having contractions even when it's not supposed to. - and so that's what can happen to a man's bladder. what about a woman's? - the women are a little more complicated. women go through profound physiologic changes throughout their life from the beginning of menstruation to pregnancy to menopause. let's just take this model and pretend it's a pregnant woman. this is her pelvic floor, okay?
1:17 am
and the baby's growing, and it's pushing down on the bladder and the pelvic floor. well the nerves are going through the pelvic floor, so those nerves are gonna also get stretched and go through changes. so now you have nerves that are stretched and displaced, and the result can be, oh, in the simplest terms, mixed signals. and these mixed signals can result in bladder agitation that starts to release urine. and this can happen at rest, or when you're coughing or sneezing, laughing or lifting. - i'm a mom, i have seven children. and they're 12, 11, nine, seven, six, four, and two. i think have that. (laughs) i do remember sitting on the floor with my kids and kind of sit like indian style to help them to sit good, and then realizing, oh, mommy's leaking. i am very physical, when i do yoga and stuff, there's certain positions that you go in, that's where sometimes i notice, oh,
1:18 am
i'm in control except for one area. so now i'm down to zero leaks, which means everything. and i take better bladder, it's like one less issue. i can just leave the house, bring an extra pair of pants for the three-year-old and not for the 44-year-old. now i can take the kids for a walk, read them a story at night, and sit in my yoga class in any position and then at night, be with my husband, laugh at his jokes, and not worry about, oh am i gonna leak? no, i made the whole day because of better bladder. - while pregnant, i always had to go because my son was sitting on my bladder. but after i had my son, it didn't really go away. now that i have been taking better bladder, i feel like that i don't have to go as urgent and quickly. i am so grateful that i did find better bladder to help with my urgency issues. i'm so thrilled. - i understand that 25% of reproductive-age women actually suffer from some kind of loss of bladder control.
1:19 am
now that's a lot of young women. what about men? - well men, it's an equal opportunity problem. it affects men and women pretty much equally. all those guys out there who think that it's their prostate causing these problems, think again. about half of those guys who have those symptoms, it's really because of their bladders. - my bladder is running my life. i'm constantly thinking about it, everyday, all day. and night time is the worst. because you usually sleep through through the night. but now i'm going to the bathroom. i may go one time, but now i'm going maybe four. i coach little league baseball right now. and we have breaks before practice. so you know, i can't say, coach is going to the bathroom after i told them we only taking one, two potty breaks. that part, there again, it plays into ego again, as a man. and how do i handle this? what am i gonna do about it? taking better bladder, i had an aha moment. that's what i call it. i woke up and i'm thinking, oh, i didn't wake up all night.
1:20 am
even my wife notices. she says, oh, i'm getting a little bit more sleep now that you're getting more sleep. it's amazing. my lifestyle has changed quite a bit. i'm able to stay in practice a lot longer when i'm working with the children, and just being a lot more confident in me having the situation under control. going out to eat or sitting through meals or when we're with friends, not having to excuse myself. you know, to go to the bathroom, so it's been a life-changing situation for me. - so doctor, what is it that makes better bladder so effective? - better bladder offers a combination of three herbs that have been traditionally used for centuries. the first of which is crateva nurvala, a bark that helps reduce inflammation and has natural calming properties that may help with those age related changes to the bladder muscle. then we have an extract from the horsetail plant. horsetail is a grass that is generally known to help regulate the bladder muscle and help
1:21 am
with the ability to control urination. finally, this is lindera, a root that's a very potent antioxidant. it has a long history of use in both japan and china, and was included in better bladder to support the nerves as well as the bladder muscle. together, these three herbs help to calm an irritable bladder, and produce the results we've been talking about today. - oh wow, that is really incredible that these three herbs can make such a difference in people and help them avoid surgery potentially or medications, and actually save them from embarrassment. - god bless mother nature for coming up with something like this that's really gonna change people's lives. - [announcer] what would it be worth to you to regain the confidence and peace of mind that comes from a bladder under your control? surgeries, prescriptions, or even adult diapers could cost you from hundreds to thousands of dollars. but better bladder won't cost you even $100, not even close. a full two month's supply of better bladder
1:22 am
is only $39.95 per month, but it won't cost you that today either because through this special tv offer, you can experience the power of better bladder free for 30 days. that's right, free. you only pay shipping and processing. you'll also receive doctor's secrets to a better bladder, with valuable tips and information for anyone living with a weak bladder. plus a free 30-day supply of therabotanics' perfect omega. just one perfect omega has the power of three ordinary fish oil supplements. a $60 total value, they're both yours free with your order today. try better bladder for a full 30 days. if it doesn't help rude the urge to go, how often you go, and those dreaded leaks and accidents, simply return the unused portion and your credit card will not be charged. but please, keep the bladder secrets and perfect omega as our free gift to you. - it's a success story for me. it's something i plan on taking for the rest of my life. - with better bladder, i'm making it to the bathroom
1:23 am
every time with no surprises. - [announcer] now, sleep peacefully through the night, sit through an entire movie, enjoy an exercise class or a drive without worrying about the next rest stop. (upbeat music) - i was beginning to have these nasty smells that were so offensive, and i thought, everybody can smell. i mean, i'm around people all the time at work. i'm at that level when i'm walking up and down the aisle, and people are just right there. you know, close quarters and it's just really nice to not smell bad. - i am having a better experience in my relationship because when i go out to a nice event, a dinner, a party,
1:24 am
i'm not always the one absent from the room 'cause i've gotta go to the restroom. - before better bladder i was doing kegels and limiting my water intake. it's just so bad for your health. and now i probably 10 to 12 glasses of water a day. forget the kegels, i won't do them anymore. (upbeat music) - we're back and we're talking with dr. michael hyman. i wanna talk about the clinical testing. i've seen the most recent results, and i gotta say, they are super impressive. and one of the things that it does point out is the participants experience a reduction in stress-induced leakage. but explain to us what that is exactly. - it's when somebody is having that cough or that sneeze or that laugh and it's basically gonna set off that irritable bladder situation, and they're gonna push their legs together and try to control that urine from coming out. it can happen in men, too, having those accidents. and better bladder can help. - since i've been taking better bladder, it's incredible.
1:25 am
i sneezed three times on the way here, nothing. - if there's too much laughter, there's probably going to be a little bit of an accident. thankfully, better bladder has fixed that. i don't have that issue anymore. i'm not worried if i get up, whether it's at home or out in public, that there might be a little bit of a wet spot on my chair. - dr. hyman, i wanna thank you for being here with us today and sharing such important information. - well, it was my pleasure. - now before we say goodbye, do you have any last words you wanna share with our viewers? - bladder issues, frequency, urgency, leakage, these are by far the most common reasons people come to see me. it's absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. and having struggled with finding an option that really is effective with no harmful side effects, well, i can honestly say this is truly a huge change in my practice. better bladder will change people's lives. - dr. hyman, thank you again for being with us.
