yesterday. fremont at 39 livermore. 33 santa rosa. 35 everyone is at least above freezing right now. no 20's on the map. winds will be picking up tonight as we do see a storm system brushing right past us. and as those winds to pick up, we do have high wind advisories that go into effect at 10:00pm this evening for the north bay mountains. otherwise it's going to be a mostly sunny day to start. but gradually increasing cloud cover. daytime highs in the 60's, right? all right. all day for that off to a great start on this friday. >> the 12 minute drive. everybody making their way into the city right now, while 7 along a richmond center fell the golden gate bridge sits at about 20 minutes. taking a look at those highways out there. still seeing a lot of green to start off with darya. james, back to you. thanks. a lot of big story this morning. some san francisco parents and students are on edge because the students said that they saw an ice agent on a city bus. yes. so the incident prompted the school district to send a message to parents about what happened. crawford's joey horta standing by live in the newsroom with more on what we know so far.

good morning to you guys. this comes after president trump's promises of mass deportation orders to target court houses, churches and schools. parents got a message from the principal from balboa high school. here's what that letter says. take a look at student at visitation valley. middle school reported they saw immigration law enforcement officer on the 29 muni bus. that student reported they were approached by an officer and asked for identification and where they were from that student is safe and with their family. now, according to the principal, meanwhilethe superintendent of san francisco unified says the district is a safe haven for all students, regardless of citizenship status. every udent has the right to 10 school regardless of the immigration status of the child or of the childs family members, the school acknowledges this is alarng for students and parents hear about. they've also notified the neighboring schools there. we're also hearing from a beauty operator who says that

they have been told if law enforcement does come on board muti and identifies themselves as ice that they should contact management. so still a lot of unanswered questions here and fear among the immigrant community this morning. guys, back to you. thank you, joey 602, is the time. and meantime, those fears of deportation not just in the latino community. >> spreading among many asian americans and other immigrants as well. the asian community has concerns about ice agents asking them about their citizenship status like all immigrants are on edge this morning. and despite the countless generations that many of these immigrants and their families have been here. one man tells us a api community is coming together. >> neighbors and i and other asians, we're saying that least we're in the san francisco bay area where where some are protected. so we feel safe here. but unfortunately, for our friends and family

there outside. california. yeah, >> our houses are open for them. >> study found one in 4 residents in the bay area are api. on the peninsula. af of a nonprofit got a post card that had anti immigrant rhetoric on it. alice, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting latino immigrants and workers got a postcard you're seeing right there on tuesday, a worker discovered in the mail and it had a list of. thing is that it said about let he in response they are adding extra security and keeping an eye out for these types of threats. all right, 604, is the time and happening tonight, the bay area's going to be coming together to remember the 7 people killed 2 years ago in half moon bay when a gunman opened fire on 2 farms. tonight, there will be a candlelight vigil to honor. and remember the victims kron four's will tran is live in half moon bay with the story

will. >> while they have not forgotten the victim, of course, and they want to do something per minute. in the meantime, downtown half moon bay, you can see the sign right behind me right after the shootings. this became a makeshift memorial and it still is. i still see some flowers here. and you can see that sign. the hope is they have something per minute and they are floating many plans out there. it's going to take a little bit of time, but they definitely do not want to remember the 7 victims that remember the 7 victims that were killed and one person who fortunately, the one sole survivor, as far as remembering what they did that even yesterday there was a memorial with a lot of people gathering just to read the names to remember exactly what happened 2 years ago and one days last yesterday was the two-year anniversary when the alleged shooter went into 2 mushroom farms opened fire and

then ultimately he was arrested. this whole incident highlighted migrant workers and their plight during this whole time that they went in there and found deplorable conditions. all talk about that a little bit later. in the meantime, we did track down some community activists hear what they had to say about remembering the victims was traumatic. it was it was sad everybody felt shocked. >> and now i think 2 years after we're seeing how slowly, you know, and then surely we're coming out of that trauma. the proposal you see are 3 of the designs that were hoping one of them will be selected to to be the actual final loyal and work. today we're gathering community feedback. we invite them to come drop by their comments share their thoughts what they like. but they don't like anything, though else that we should consider. and we'll take all that feedback report back to the committee and report back to city council commissions and committees. >> ok, so here's what's going

to happen today to monumental things. at 11 o'clock. they will have a news conference and that's going to be held by community activist to talk about the migrant workers and the conditions at the farms and also at 6 o'clock tonight and take a look at your screen for that particular thing to honor. and remember the victims killed and that's going to be at loss cultural center in downtown half moon bay. and that starts at 6 o'clock tonight. and that's going to go for about 2 hours from 6 to 8. as far as the permanent monument as for the victims. well, there are many plans floated. it ranges from one. >> to 3 million dollars. and could take about 3 years to ultimately finalize a permanent memorial. back to thank you. will. >> it is 607. and an update now to another big story that we've been following for you. the mother of the man accused of killing alexis, gabe will not be facing any charges. gabe was in oakley woman who was found dead after being reported missing by family back in january of 2022.

gabe's ex-boyfriend, marshall curtis jones was charged with her murder, but he was shot and killed by arresting officers up in washington state in june of 2022, the contra costa county district attorney was investigating of jones's mother coleman clark helped cover up the murder, but they now say they just could not find sufficient evidence to charge her. da. dionna becton says that they pursued every lead and concluded their investigation. this, though, despite the gabe family presenting evidence to the da last month. >> presented the evidence in a manner that i thought was compelling to them. so what she did in my mind is unconscionable and he's clearly not lawful. >> we're confused to why. think it's still not a doubt. that's what really infuriates me know. it's over for us. >> glenn says his family has decided to join the recall efforts of da backed in the

statute of limitations on charges for jones's mother expires this sunday. the same day the family is going to be holding a second annual day of kindness in honor of alexis. elsewhere in the east bay, the city of oakland has cleared out a homeless encampment near east 12th street following a homicide near that location earlier this month was back on january 17th that a person was shot and killed. there. the city also cited hazardous living conditions involving fire, including fires in criminal activity. they also say multiple stolen vehicles were found near that encampment. >> definitely unsettling that what you're telling and the family saying that we're going to have transparency would have one more meeting. those going to be a conversation and it definitely didn't. it's not the definition of transparency. >> in the there are those that are very frustrated with the school district jays after the community town hall was held. the vallejo unified school

district has narrowed down its choices on possible school closures and consolidations. the superintendent says this needs to happen to cut about 8 million dollars from the budget. currently, there are 19 schools that serve about 9,000 students in the district and the board now votes on one of 3 options under the first option, mare island health and fitness academy will close in blow charter school. we'll move to the mare island campus under the second choice. loma vista, environmental science academy would be converted in 2 a kindergarten through 5th grade school and this 6 through 8th graders would move to solano wideman leadership academy and then the 3rd option has the district completely closing the loma vista, environmental science academy, the president that we just heard from from the parent teachers association shows a short list came as a surprise to her and the families at mare island have

>> we're back at 6.14, and here for things to know today, san francisco city leaders say they're moving forward with plans to install speed cameras and pedestrian safety measures. all this after a deadly 7 car crash sunday night. unclear when these cameras will be installed. a lease agreement has been reached to bring grocery outlet to the north point center right along bay street in san francisco. the new store will fill the currently empty space left behind when safely close back in 2023. the

city of san jose is unveiling the renovations done to the largest homeless shelter in santa clara county. the city partnered with home first and the housing industry foundation for this renovation project. going to be holding a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10, 30 this morning and a huge honor for a family owned restaurant in redwood city. the chefs at missouri were named semifinalists for this year's james beard. culinary award restaurant owners say their mission has always been deliver a sense of home to their customers. that's looks good. >> 6.14, right now and the bay area air quality management district has a new name and a new look. the logo, the graphics, the bay area air district is what it's called. the air district says that these changes were designed to better connect with the public in give them a little freshening up fun fact, the our district was formed in 1955. and was the first regional air quality regulator in the state. how is the air

>> some of that bad air out and then we get some shower activity, which is really going to be helpful, especially for socal neighbors, which it had really bad air quality. and of course, a lot of fire activity this morning. it's not so bad. i mean, you can see that view in downtown san francisco, the east bay looking good. all of it. nice and clear yet again this morning. just a little fog at the coastline. so we are talking changes this weekend and let's break them down because there's a lot to break down here. first of all, tomorrow does start dry, but you'll notice an increase in cloud cover. and by the time we reach tomorrow evening, we do see a few light sprinkles for the bay. this is not going to be anything major, but just don't be surprised with those light sprinkles, especially late tomorrow afternoon into the evening. we'll start to also see a little bit of light snowfall in the sierra. but for socal, it'll be rain tomorrow sunday and monday, 3 days with rainfall potential for the southern part of the

state tomorrow for us, our only chance at maybe a light sprinkle if you are heading to the sierra this weekend, though, do note the snow-packed roads will be encountering, especially heading back on sunday, dry out for a few days. and then we got another system pushing through. this will be towards thursday. and this one, a bigger rainmaker for northern california and likely to have more of an impact on us here in the bay to. so, of course, all this does add up that first system not going to do it. i-90 literally just a few sprinkles for the bay. much more significant further southward and nothing on the north coast that thursday system, though, total rivers, bigger impact for the north coast and a pretty good impact with showers for the bay area itself. so we are ending that dry trend. it's looking very likely. great news for southern california. red flag warnings until 10:00am this morning. we do have that concern with these rainy next few days for socal of debris flows, mudslides in those burn scar areas. temperatures in the 50's and 60's at the coast

today. today is actually declining towards those seasonal averages for a few spots anyways. we're not going to be as warm as we were yesterday, but still a few degrees above average, especially for the south bay. were your daytime highs will still be in the upper 60's. the snow 70's like we had yesterday. that was very warm for january heyward at 64 oakland, 62 today, north bay temperatures also hanging out in the 60's. pretty consistently santa rosa at 68 degrees. looking ahead, we will be looking at daytime highs cooler into the weekend. only in the 50's for saturday and sunday evening showers saturday and another chance towards next week. >> bridges seen a lot of green out there making a good time along highway 4, 6, 81 on one to 80 along the peninsula in the south bay and over in the east bay, not seen major issues there. 14 minute ride for you. if you're traveling into the city right now about

8 minutes along richmond, sandra fell bridge was still at the limit. there, south bay. 29 minutes. 85 up to menlo park along one on one to 37. 85 in 82. you look good. and shelley andrew down to 2.37. about 26 minutes or is back to you 6.18, right now and fire crews are making significant progress now on the 2 biggest and deadliest fires in southern california. the palisades fire is 70% contained right now. it's 23,000 acres that have burned so far. and the other one is the eaton fire, which is 95% contained. it has burned more than 14,000 acre in both of them. obviously, as you can see in the video, destroying tens of thousands of structures. crews are gaining the upper hand. now 2 on the hughes fire that is in just north of santa clarita. that area, it's 36% contained longer way to go there. but it's smaller. it's burned about 10,000 acres. it only

started around 10:30am, in the morning wednesday. and luckily in this one, no homes have been burned so far. still, there are ag evacuation orders in effect for about 30,000 people. >> well, happening today, president donald trump is expected to be here in california as he's set to tour areas devastated by those wildfires palisades and la county throughout that whole region. the visit comes after he repeatedly criticized california's handling of fires and falsely claimed that the state's fission wildfire efforts in northern california wildlife efforts. i should say, northern california, responsible for fire hydrants running dry in urban areas in southern california. the president has also threatened to withhold federal aid for areas ravaged by the wildfires unless the state changes its approach on how it manages its water. governor newsom, meanwhile, his green lit billions of dollars in emergency wildfire aid for those hit hardest in southern

california. 2 and a half billion dollars in total will go towards impacted schools as well as the permit process for rebuilding. republicans also pushed for an additional billion dollars to go to wildfire prevention and forest management. something they say will save the state over time by preventing future fires. but democrats disagreed. there was also intense debate over the governor's efforts to stand up to president trump just hours ahead of his visit to southern california today. >> let's be clear. if this administration goes after our rights, our freedoms, our democracy, our people. the golden state will never. >> we're supposed to want to get along with a new administration and right out of the block. we're saying we're going to have problems, which, that's certainly bad messaging. >> the senate voted to pass the bills, the state senate that is and that will send 25 million dollars to the california attorney general's office to fund any future lawsuits against the trump administration. they will come

up with a vote in the state assembly next week before advancing them to the governor's desk. >> a new effort is underway to recall governor gavin newsom. it's being led by the group saving california dot vote. the organizers say that newsom's tenure has been marked by a series of catastrophic failures, including the homelessness crisis, the cost of living increases. and most recently, the devastating wildfires. >> he is track is not focused. he is consumed with with donald trump is said it being consumed with. the people of california. >> the organization plans to gather the required 50. well, actually, i'm not sure exactly how many signatures are needed, but once they do get that, then they'll have at the possibility of issuing a recall and they would serve that notice to the governor in the coming days. >> well, still ahead on the

fabricating at least to audit reports if convicted, the couples facing a long time in prison. livermore police have seized illegal flavored tobacco's products. and you can see here pictures of what they took into custody. and those that were responsible are now going to be obviously facing charges. >> the san francisco zoo's leaping lemur cafe is going to be temporary closed because a health inspection found a rodent infestation. authorities suspended the permit citing multiple health code violations. they discovered rodent droppings and they recommended immediate pest control measures, including sealing gaps, trimming vegetation. the restaurant has also sanitize affected areas and remove contaminated food. the closure will remain in place until this is all addressed. and then the permit is reinstated. the business has now 15 days to request a hearing to contest the suspension at this

point. we don't know that they're doing that. you just know the cafe is closed for now. >> 6.26 right now. ford is recalling more than a quarter million bronco sport and maverick vehicles. because there's a potential battery issue. federal safety officials say that the 12 volt battery that came with vehicles could degrade and then suddenly fail. and that could really well in the last half your electrical a system. and that would be the lights, loss of power drive. that would be bad. the recall impacts the 2021 to 23 models of the bronco sport and the 2022. to 23 models of the maverick pickup dealers are going inspect the vehicle to replace the better for free if it's necessary. it is 6.26. is still an on the kron. 4 morning news turning the page on a historic bookstore in the east bay. >> we'll take a

citizenship right now. that's on hold. yeah. this federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order saying, quote, taking away citizenship from those born here. >> to undocumented parents violates the constitution with kron four's dan kerman. now with a closer look. >> a federal judge in seattle is temporarily blocked president trump's executive order seeking to redefine birthright citizenship for right? it's a big one. the order the president signed would take away u.s. citizenship from those born here. if neither of their parents are u.s. citizens. the judge, an appointee of ronald reagan, said the order clearly violated the 14th amendment. this is step one. >> but to hear the judge from the bench say that in his 40 years as a judge, he has never seen something so blatantly unconstitutional sets the tone for the seriousness of this effort. >> those who run la raza community resource center in san francisco's mission district. we're gratified with the ruling. it's utterly see that this trend. >> has started on the right

foot that we will fight back against the trump administration attempting to take away our our our basic rights. if the ruling is affirmed in 2 weeks, the trump administration could appeal and eventually the case could land at the u.s. supreme court. >> this federal judge and i believe other federal judges look at this executive order. >> and view it as directly contravene in the 14th amendment. and i think there's good reason to believe that the supreme court would think the same. in the meantime, republican lawmakers are taking matters into their own hands to make birthright citizenship more restrictive. over here on vacation. yeah. >> and just happened to go in labor. the coming across that border, dana illegally. and they're using us like the international piggy bank. >> at a news briefing thursday, they announced the birth rate citizen act of 2025. legislation that will solidify and codified the president's order this lawsuit is just one of 6 filed on behalf of 22 states and organizations. again, in this

case, president trump's order is on hold for 14 days. the attorneys will file additional briefs and then the judge is set to reconvene on february 6 to make a final decision. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> 6.30, threes. the time in the south bay organizers held a roundtable in san jose to talk about what could be at stake for different communities during the trump administration. the meeting addressed topics like immigration, of course, in light of the president's executive orders, the group says that trump's actions are already setting the path forward for another so-called muslim ban. >> we have seen countless protests over the last year and a half challenging biden administration policies and we will continue to push back against any government official that wants to show up to our city and our community. and that is actively harming us. >> organizers say they're concerned about the future but hopeful the community will be able to come together in the face of uncertainty. well, san

francisco authorities are investigating a deadly 7 car crash that occurred sunday night in the soma district. police ended up arresting 66 year old john lin jong charging him with vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving. the crash involving a speeding car in a driverless waymo robotaxi killed 27 year-old mikhail romanenko and a dog with 2 others critically injured. we spoke with city leaders say they're moving forward with plans now to install speed cameras and pedestrian safety measures to prevent future accidents. well, it's unclear when these cameras will be installed, but city officials say they will work to ensure the safety of the community. it's 6.35. and let's continue our coverage now of the federal indictment

of oakland, mayor sheng thao. the former mayor. >> is under indictment in the justice department is charging her with 6 counts of conspiracy, bribery, mail, fraud and wire fraud. her partner andrea jones as well as a businessman, david and andy duong there also facing charges. tao has pleaded not guilty to all counts. >> if convicted, if she is convicted, she could ultimately face years in prison. we'll have to see because the range goes from that to supervised release 2 fines. our legal analyst michael cardoza says regardless of the outcome, this case will take a toll on her political reputation. >> bringing in a like this again, somebody so famous, you've ruined their life basically just by bringing because even if a guest this mister not guilty, you know, everybody's going to say, well, what you get off of a technicality. the defendants

are due to return to federal court in early february. >> well, 6.36 is the time. and in the north bay, more than 60 people are waking up now without jobs after layoffs at a male only medical facility for state prisoners. the california medical facility in vacaville was at the center of a labor dispute. those affected at this facility. those jobs include contracted janitorial and custodial workers. the union representing those workers claim the facility was in violation of state law because those workers were subcontractor through a company and not hired as state employees. the workers contract was eventually terminated early by the state personnel board. >> time now 6.36, and it is the end of the chapter book sank the oldest independent bookstore company in the bay area is closing its location in berkeley. they are that closure comes as the company is trying to sort out its financial problems for loyal customers. the. >> and is bittersweet. as you can ioagine. dan thorn has a

you're down in the 30's. so definitely a change of pace for areas along the coastline. now we have a big change of pace this weekend. we're ending this dry trend for a lot of the state. and that is definitely music to a lot of our years. tomorrow afternoon into evening. we'll start to see a few light sprinkles for the bay area, especially further southward. this low pressure areas really going to be centered up further inland. going to be a bigger snow maker than anything else up north with a few inches of snow in the sierra. but southern california is getting the most benefit with tomorrow sunday into monday, bringing solid rain showers la down to san diego. that should really help with fire activity. but the downside of this, the recent burn scars will those are susceptible to any sort of debris flow or to any sort of mudslides, which i know is something officials down there watching very close. this isn't our only rainmaker in the forecast. we dry out for much of next week until thursday and then a much more typical system pushes with
