this morning. some san francisco parents and students are on edge because the students said they will question by an ice agent on a city bus. so that incident prompted the school district to send a message to parents relaying what the student said happened. >> robert, to a florida actually live for us in the city to walk us through it. joey? >> yeah, james. what we know is that of course, this comes after the president's plans to roll out mass deportations now include targeting schools. so the principle from balboa high school in san francisco sent a letter out to parents and neighboring schools as well after this happened allegedly. so here's what the letter says, quote, a student that visitation valley middle school reported they saw an immigration law enforcement officer on the 29 muni bus on thursday, student reported they were approached by officer and asked for identification and where they were from that student is safe and with their family. now, the principal says, meanwhile, the superintendent of san francisco unified says the district is a safe haven for

all students. regardless of citizenship status. and every student has the right to attend school. >> regardless of the immigration status of the child with the childs family members and has not been able to confirm if an ice agent was actually on that bus, but the school still felt the need to. and for parents probably reached out to the district. san francisco police department of homeland security and supervisor walton. we're still waiting to hear back. but again, the school district knowledge that this is alarming situation to just learn about for parents and students out there, especially those among immigrant community. back to you. joey, thank you. meantime, all these years deportation are not just spreading in the latino community. also affecting. >> the asian-american as well. no matter how many generations of family has been here. there is a concern among the api community. >> neighbors and i and other

asians, we're saying at least we're in the san francisco bay area where where some are protected. so we feel safe here. but unfortunately, for our friends and family there outside. california. yeah, our houses are open for them. >> so that's the one man is talking about how he is happy lives in california because california is reacting to the threat of deportation by letting immigrants know their rights and that they will be protected 804, is the time right now in on the peninsula, half moon bay nonprofit got a post card that had anti immigrant rhetoric on it. all us, which is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting latino immigrants and workers showed the postcard that they received on tuesday in the mail. and you can see scrawled in the left-hand corner there have your bags packed. trump is coming. exclamation point. you flip it over and it had this about illegal aliens and reporting them in schools work church restaurant spreading this type of propaganda and

fear is the goal of this. and the nonprofit says they're going to increase security because they want to make sure that there are no real threats that end up happening. >> well, happening tonight the bay area's going to be coming together to remember the 7 people who were killed 2 years ago in half moon bay when a gunman opened fire on 2 farms. tonight, there will be a vigil in kron. four's will tran is live now at half of a with more. well. >> they are remembering the past and they also want to remember them well into the future. you can see the sign right behind me. city of half moon bay. they are looking for input for permanent memorial. and you can see that was a sign for people to show last night. in the meantime, there is a makeshift memorial and it has been here for the past 2 years. so many people rushed to this location in downtown half moon bay to place flowers. and you can see there's a sign right there and fresh flowers still being placed as we speak. but

they're looking for a permanent memorial. let me show you video from last night. yesterday was exactly 2 years ago when 7 people were gunned down at work, another person shot and injured and still recovering from his injuries. so 8 altogether. and of course, they remember the victims on that particular day 2 years ago, the alleged shooter went to 2 mushroom farms here in half moon bay before ultimately getting arrested. he has not started trial yet. and that will begin in april. but they don't want to focus on him. they want to focus on remembering the victims. here's a community activist talking about the memorial. >> i was reminded that was it was sad everybody shocked and now i think 2 years after we're seeing how slowly, you know, and then surely we're coming out of that trauma. the proposal use 3 of the designs

that were hoping one of them will be selected to be the actual final memorial and work. today. we're gathering community feedback. we invite them to come drop by their comments share their thoughts what they like. but they don't like anything that else that we should consider and we'll take all that feedback report back to the committee report back to city council commissions and committees. >> today is also a very big day, even though it's 2 years and one day since the massacre, they will hold a news conference at 11 o'clock this morning. and we are talking farmworkers community activist because after the massacre took place, they went into the farms and that's when most of the world started to realize what they already knew, that the farming conditions are deplorable and they want better housing. so they will be a news conference at 11 o'clock. not to mention a vigil at i lost cultural center starting at 6 o'clock tonight, all the way until 8 o'clock. as far as the

proposals that you just heard, 3 proposals are being submitted or at least considered and they range anywhere between one and 3 million dollars. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. well. >> and is the time. and now an update to another big story that we've been following. the mother of the man charged with killing a lexus game will not face any charges contra. costa county da's office announced this decision and sunday marks 3 years since alexis was reported missing. kron 4. sarah stinson has more. >> it's over for there was a big day and very big the supporting day for us. >> when gabe feeling defeated after learning the mother of the man accused of killing his daughter, alexis will not be facing charges. very sad day for it'll be 3 years the sunday since gabe was last seen. the oakley woman was 24 years old when her remains were found in amador county after her family reported her missing in january 2022.

gabe's ex-boyfriend, marshall curtis jones was charged with her murder, but he was shot and killed by arresting officers in washington state in june of 2022, the contra costa county district attorneys office was also investigating if jones's mother, alicia coleman, clark helped cover up the murder. the da's office says investigators searched her home and interviewed her boyfriend to see if she paid for her son to fly to washington. and while prosecutors say some information raised suspicion about coleman clark's potential culpability as an accessory after the fact they could not find sufficient evidence to charge her. this despite the gabe family presenting evidence to the da last month, there's just a mountain of small pieces of evidence. that's one of the attorneys for the game family. dara cashman. i fundamentally disagree. >> with the da's decision, presented the evidence in a manner that i thought was

>> outside this morning, another tier one and another very chilly one areas like berkeley and oakland got close to those 30's falling into the low 40's earlier today. >> big switch up just around the corner. we're already seeing an onshore breeze kick back up. but tomorrow, willow slides right past us. and with that, we are going to be right at the cusp of some needed rainfall for the state. that means the bay area. we may just see a couple of sprinkles late tomorrow, really after the latter part of the day, we will be looking at a lot of snow in the sierra specially the southern sierra just a few inches at donner summit. but that snow hangs out a little bit longer south of sequoia national park for southern california. this is the big rainmaker. it starts tomorrow. goes through sunday and even into monday. that is concerning for the immediate vicinity of those burn scars and the fires around la as there could be debris flow, mudslides, results into that. but the rain is good news. nonetheless, we'll dry out monday through wednesday before another system pushes

through thursday. this one has much more of a white in spread impact for northern california. that includes us right here in the bay area. you out upper first rainfall, maybe a sprinkle or 2 for us here in the bay seconds. rainfall, though, and we get up to a 3rd of an inch of rain and some real big rain totals up in the north coast. decent snowfall in the sierra. just a few inches of it. this is amazing news for southern california, at least helping out with the wildfire potential red flag warnings expire at 10:00am today. temperatures the next several days will start to cool down. so if you're looking for those 60's, even though the coast does stay in the 50's today, the rest of us in the bay area will still be a bit above average and feeling pretty familiar like we have the past few weeks. so get out there. enjoy the mild feel. san jose at 68 degrees today. the space of mid 60's. >> the rest of the weekend is not going to be this warm. so it's definitely a good chance if you'd like to recent weather to savor. one more day

theme. you may have seen these no parking curbs popping up along san francisco sidewalks. >> some of them, though, are leaving residents a bit confused for this red curve, for instance, on 18th avenue, right near balboa street is among several that were actually illegally painted near crosswalks. the sfmta says it's working right now to repaint those curves back to their normal colors and other curbs that were tampered with. but this is all in the wake of california announcing a new daylight law which requires people to park at least 20 feet away from cross walks and sometimes even further if there's a red paint to curb. officials say these fake curbs are causing confusion around this new law. so a few noticed a new red curb popping up in your neighborhood that you think looks a little odd. dial 3, 1, 1, give them a call. we'll send somebody out to double check. >> definitely unsettling that what you're telling and the family saying that we're going to have transparency would have one meeting. those going to be a conversation and it definitely didn't. it's not

the definition of transparency. >> lot parents are upset with the school district just days after they had this town hall meeting where the latest cities to district decided to narrow down the choices for possible school closures and consolidations. the superintendent needs to cut about 8 million dollars from the budget. currently, the district has 19 schools that serve about 9,000 students. the board is going to vote. they are looking at 3 options. the first option, air island health and fitness academy would close and charter school would move to the mayor campus under the second choice, loma vista, environmental science academy would be converted to get gotten through 5 and then 6 to 8th graders would move to solano widen men, leadership academy and then the 3rd choice. what have the district completely closing the loma vista, environmental science academy. the president of the parent teacher student association says the short list came as a surprise to her

and many families have questions. >> i'm not only speaking for my child like that psp parent. you know, i'm rooting for the whole community. all the kids. and what about the teachers, the teachers that they grew up with, but nobody gave us any answers as to staff. we came and faculty site even class sizes of. you're going to bring in another 30400 your packing the island to school with 700 plus students. like, what are your racial is looking like? >> the board is going to vote on its options and make a decision on february 19th and then whatever they decide goes into effect next school year. fire crews are making more progress now on the 2 biggest deadliest, most destructive fires in southern california. the pair palisades fire. it's 77% contained. now having burned more than 23,000 acres and the eaton fire is 95% contained scorching more than 14,000 acres. they have both cars so much loss of life and

property. then there's the newer fire that's called the hughes fire that just broke out this week. they're gaining containment on that to its in santa clarita. it's about 56% contained 10,000 acres and it just started wednesday morning. thankfully, no homes have been damaged, but there are still 30,000 people who have been evacuated. >> happening today, president donald trump is expected to be here in california as he's set to tour areas devastated by those deadly fires. the visit comes after he repeatedly criticized california's handling of fires and falsely claimed that the state's fish and conservation efforts in northern california are responsible for fire hydrants running dry in la county. now the president has also threatened to withhold federal aid for areas ravaged by those fires unless the state changes its approach to how it manages water. governor gavin newsom, by the way, has green lit billions of dollars in

emergency wildfire aid for those that have been hit hard in southern california. 2 and a half billion dollars in total will go towards impacted schools as well as the permit process for rebuilding. republicans also are pushing for an additional billion dollars to go towards wildfire prevention and forest management. something they say will save the state over time by preventing future fires. democrats disagree. there was also intense debate over the governor's effort to stand up to president trump ahead of his visit to southern california today. let's be clear. >> if this administration goes after our rights, our freedoms, our democracy, our people. the golden state will never back. dow were supposed to want to get along with a new administration and right out of the block. we're saying we're going to have problems, which, that's >> certainly bad messaging. >> well, the senate voted to pass the bills, which would then send 25 million dollars to the california attorney general's office to fund

artificial intelligence company. alexander in valerie beckman are facing charges of fraud, identity theft and other crimes relating to their company called game on incorporated. they're accused of embezzling money from investors for personal use, including using names and signatures of people without their permission. they also are charged with fabricating at least to audit reports if convicted, the couples facing quite a lengthy prison sentence. >> 25 right now and the san francisco zoo cafe called the leaping lemur cafe is temporarily closed because a health inspection found a rodent infestation. they cited multiple health code violations, including rodent droppings. and so this closure will remain in place until the issues are addressed. the cause for a chance to win. the lottery is going up. lottery officials in california just announced the price for a mega millions ticket is going to

>> a federal judge in seattle is temporarily blocked president trump's executive order seeking to redefine birthright citizenship. first right? it's a big the order the president signed would take away u.s. citizenship from those born here. if neither of their parents are u.s. citizens. the judge, an appointee of ronald reagan, said the order clearly violated the 14th amendment. this is step one. >> but to hear the judge from the bench say in his 40 years as a judge, he has never seen something so blatantly unconstitutional sets the tone for the seriousness of this effort. >> those who run la raza community resource center in san francisco's mission district. we're gratified with the ruling. it's utterly see that this trend has started on the right foot that we will fight back against the trump administration attempting to take away our our our basic rights. if the ruling is affirmed in 2 weeks, the trump administration could appeal and eventually the case could land at the u.s. supreme

court. >> this federal judge and i believe other federal judges look at this executive order and view it as directly contravene in the 14th amendment. and i think there's good reason to believe that the supreme court would think the same. in the meantime, republican lawmakers are taking matters into their own hands. >> to make birthright citizenship more restrictive. these over here on vacation. yeah. and just happened to go in labor. the coming across a border dana illegally. and they're using us like the international piggy bank. >> at a news briefing thursday, they announce the birth rate citizen act of 2025. legislation that will solidify and codified the president's order this lawsuit is just one of 6 filed on behalf of 22 states and organizations. again, in this case, president trump's order is on hold for 14 days. the attorneys will file additional briefs and then the judge is set to reconvene on february 6 to make a final decision. dan kerman kron, 4 news.

>> thank you, danny. 33 is the time. let's go to the south bay now where organizers held a roundtable in san jose to talk about. you know, what's at stake for different communities during the trump presidency. the meeting addressed various topics, immigration among them light of the president's recent executive orders, the group says trump's actions are already setting the stage for what could be another muslim ban. >> we have seen countless protests over the last year and a half challenging biden administration policies and we will continue to push back against any government official that wants to show up to our city and our community. and that is actively harming us. >> organizers say they are concerned about the future, but they're hopeful the community will be able to come together and face it together. in san francisco. authorities are also investigating now a deadly 7 car crash that occurred sunday night in the soma district. police arrested. 66 year-old john glenn yang charging him with vehicular manslaughter and

reckless driving. this crash involved him speeding and crashing into a driverless waymo robotaxi in the process that accident killed 27 year-old mikhail romanenko and a dog. 2 others were critically injured. we spoke with city leaders that say they're moving forward now with plans to install speed cameras and pedestrian safety measures there at that intersection. it's unclear when these cameras will be installed, but city officials say they will work to ensure the safety of the community. >> it's a 35 and we want to continue our coverage now of what happens in the wake of the federal indictment of oakland, mayor sheng thao. she is charged with 6 counts of conspiracy, bribery, mail, fraud and wire fraud and her partner, andrea jones as well

as businessmen, david and andy duong are also facing charges. >> tallis pleaded not guilty, but if she's convicted, the the penalties range from prison. time to supervised release 2 more than a million dollars in fines in our legal analysts. michael cardoza says regardless of the outcome, this case will take a toll on her political reputation. >> bringing in a like this again, somebody so famous, you've ruined their lives basically just by bringing it because even if a guest this mister not guilty, you know, everybody's going to say, well, what you get off of a technicality. >> the defendants are due back in federal court in early february. >> in the north, a more than 60 people are waking up without a job. now after layoffs happened at a mail only medical facility for state prisoners. the california medical facility in vacaville was at the center of a labor dispute. and those affected facility. jobs
