>> how do we protect our communities against trump's attacks which have already begun? >> right now the kron, 4 morning news, local communities on edge after a student says they were approached by someone on a muni bus who claim to be an ice agent. plus, nearly 3 years after alexis, gabe went missing, prosecutors decided not to press charges against accused killer's mother. and 2 years after a mass shooting at half bay, the community coming together today to remember 7 lives lost. good morning and thanks for waking up with us aria and i'm james. we want to start this hour with a check of weather. >> because as we know we're going into a weekend, people have plans and the weather changing on the alex who's going to happen? i john day there. we are seeing some big changes this weekend. today is going to be the warmer and sunnier day of the weekend.

tomorrow, a little cooler cloudier and the chance of a few light sprinkles later in the day. so just plan aroucd that a little bit. looking at the golden gate this morning, a bit of hazy sunshine going on. we've got a cap across the bay right now. air quality isn't at its best this morning, but should actually improved through the weekend. temperature wise. we're in the 40's to 50's. it's been a sleghtly cooler morning thus far. winds are very calm but will begin to pick up into especially the evening tonight, north bay mountains and the delta, especially breezy overnight with 40 to 50 mile per hour gusts that's resulting in high wind advisories going into effect at 10:00pm. and it's all because we've got a low steering right past us. that same lower results in tomorrow's chance of sprinkles. today, staying dry with highs in the 60's. nice day to get out and about back to you. >> 10 0, one is a time right now to big story that we're following. a lot of reaction in san francisco after a student said they were on a bus and that someone who said

they were nice agent confronted them and question them. so this incident prompted the school to. >> send a message to parents describing what happened. crawford's joey horta it live at visitation middle school where that student is enrolled to walk us through what happened. joey? >> yeah, james and darya. good morning. yeah. the families who have students who attend this school received one of those messages and this all comes after the president's mass deportations plans, including targeting schools. i'm beginning to move forward. we're getting reports of and this all comes again. here's what the letter says. let's go to student at visitation valley. middle school reported based on immigration, law enforcement officer on the 29 the bus. the student reported they approached by officer d asked for id and where they were from a student is safe and with their family now, they've also notified neighboring schools. meanwhile, the superintendent of san francisco unified says this is a safe haven for all students, regardless of cizenship status, every student has the right to attend school gardless of

immigration status of the child, war of the childs family members. and seth mta has not been able to confirm if an ice agent was actually on that bus, but the school still felt the need to inform parents kron 4 reached out to the district. san francisco police, the department of homeland security and supervisor walton. we're still waiting to hear back from everyone. but again, some fears here growing over concerns of this possible ice agent. big on a bus confronting a student itself still waiting to get much more on this. back to you. thanks a lot to 10 0, 2 is the time and meantime, fears of deportation are just in the latino community. it's also spreading. >> among many asian americans as well. that community has concerns of ice agents possibly asking them about their citizenship status. what he knows and asians are historically viewed as newly arrived. immigrants despite countless being here for multiple generations. one man tells us the api community is coming together to try and

help. >> neighbors and i and other asians, we're saying least we're in the san francisco bay area where we're somewhat protected. so we feel safe here. but unfortunately, for our friends and family there outside. so california. yeah, our houses are open for them. >> the study found that one in 4 residents in the bay area is a member of the api community. >> on the peninsula, half of a nonprofit got a postcard that had anti immigrant rhetoric on it. al u.s. a nonprofit dedicated to serving the latino community, got the postcard in the mail on tuesday. and you can see it right here. it says have your bags packed. trump is coming. and somebody sent on this postcard. on the other side, you can see what it says. >> report illegal aliens and then it goes on to show where you report them. it is scene is threatening to the group and in fact, what they're doing is responding by upping

their security. they do feel threatened, but they're hoping that everything will be ok. >> it's 10. 0, 4, a new this morning. we are hearing more from president trump this time about the devastating wildfires that happened in southern california because he's in california. and the question is, will he make federal money available for the recovery effort? >> the president says that he will, but he wants to see a couple things. first, here's what he had to say this morning. >> the angeles because of it, sanctuary city policy. >> want to see 2 things in los angeles. voter id so that the people have a chance to vote. i don't want to see the water be released to come down into los angeles and throughout the state. those are the 2 things after that. i will be. the greatest president that california has ever seen all i want the water to come down. and come down to los angeles and also go after all the farmland. that's barrett and dry. you know, they have land that they say is the equivalent to the land in iowa, which is about as good

emergency management agency, fema for shorts. comment is the latest signal of how the president's planning sweeping changes now to the federal government's role in managing catastrophes saying he would, quote, like to see the states take care of disasters. scheduled to be in la county later today. he'll tour areas devastated by the palisades and eaton fires. >> it's 10, 0, 6, and tonight the bay-area comes together to remember the 7 people who were killed 2 years ago in half moon bay by a gunman who opened fire on 2 farms. tonight, there will be a candlelight vigil in their honor. >> kron four's will tran is in half moon bay with the story. >> they are remembering the past and they also want to remember them well into the future. you can see the sign right behind me. the city of half moon bay. they are looking for input for permanent memorial. and you can see that was a sign for people to show last night. in the meantime, there is a makeshift memorial and it has

been here for the past 2 years. so many people rushed to this location in downtown half moon bay to place flowers. and you can see there's a sign right there and fresh flowers still being placed as we speak. but they're looking for a permanent memorial. let me show you video from last night. yesterday was exactly 2 years ago when 7 people were gunned down at work, another person shot and injured and still recovering from his injuries. altogether and of course, they remember the victims on that particular day 2 years ago, the alleged shooter went to 2 mushroom farms here in half moon bay before ultimately getting arrested. he has not started trial yet and that will begin in april. but they don't want to focus on him. they want to focus on remembering the victims. here's a community activist talking about the memorial. >> it was traumatic. it was it was sad everybody felt shocked

and now i think 2 years after we're seeing how slowly, you know, and then surely we're coming out of that trauma. the proposal use are 3 of the designs that were hoping one of them will be selected to to be the actual final memorial. today is also a very big day, even though it's 2 years and one day since the massacre, they will hold a news conference at 11 o'clock. >> this morning and we are talking farmworkers community activists because after the massacre took place, they went into the farms and that's when most of the world started to realize what they already knew, that the farming conditions are deplorable and they want better housing. so they will be a news conference at 11 o'clock. not to mention a vigil at i lost cultural center starting at 6 o'clock tonight, all the way until 8 o'clock. as far as the proposals that you just heard, 3 proposals are being submitted or at least

considered and they range anywhere between one and 3 million dollars. back to you. >> will thank you 10. 0, 9, is the time now and update to a story we've been following. the mother of the man accused of killing alexis. gabe will not be facing any charges. gabe is a woman from oakley who was found dead after being reported missing by family back in january of 2022, her ex-boyfriend, marshall curtis jones, was charged with her murder, but he was shot and killed by arresting officers in washington state. back in june of 2022, the contra costa county district attorney's office was investigating if jones's mother calm and clark helped cover up that murder. but they say now that they couldn't find sufficient evidence to charter da diana becton says they pursued every lead in the case, but it's now closed. this decision comes just a month after the gabe family presented evidence to the da that they hoped would change your mind. >> presented the evidence in a manner that i thought was compelling to them. so what

not so good news because we do have those. it's fresh burn scars chance of debris flows as well as mudslides for northern california are better chance of rain actually arrives late next week towards thursday. this one right here. we'll have a much greater impact for northern california. some maybe a few sprinkles tomorrow here in the bay. as for next week, much better chance of upwards of a 3rd of an inch of rainfall for us locally. this does help out with fire danger. we just saw your red flag warnings expiring. nice to see an advisory map for southern california that at this point is empty. nice update there. temperatures today in the upper 50's to low 60's in san francisco. 50's at the coastline and then pretty solid 60's elsewhere. millbrae right at 60 degrees today, lewis saying carlos redwood city at 61, south bay temps in the upper 60's know 70's but close in a few spots 60's as well for the east bay. so we're still warmer than average and definitely the warmest of the weekend. so

take it as an invitation for maybe a friday outside for your lunch break or nice jog outdoors tomorrow and sunday. not looking bad. just seasonably cool in the 50's and the chance of a spring cold saturday evening. back to you. >> john, thank you. it's 10 18 and let's head to the south bay because the city of campbell is now facing a lawsuit over a sales tax measure which passed this last november. it was measure k and it raises the city sales tax from 9.3% to now 9.8%. that's the highest in santa clara county. and they did that to help ease the city's financial strain. but this lawsuit says that that measure was invalid because it was based off of a bill that allowed the city to hike their tax above the state limit and they claim it violates the state constitution and the cause the constitution's calls for uniform policy. so city officials say they are confident they did nothing wrong. but if the lawsuit turn finds that they did, then they are prepared to adjust that percentage. well, a bay area

air quality management district has a new name. less of a mouthful. it's now called the bay area air district in. they've got a new logo that you can see there. the air district says these changes were designed to basically make it better, connect with the public and to give a fresh new look to the agency, fun fact that air district, by the way, was formed back in 1955, that's been around a while. it was the first regional air quality regulator in the state. >> it's 10 19 right now. and you may notice more red curves were not supposed to park in san francisco, but are they legit? some san francisco residents are confused because this red curb it 18th avenue, for example, near balboa. it's among several illegally spray painted near crosswalks. you can't just do that and say no. parking sfmta says that it is working now to repaint that particular curb. they say others were also tampered with. and this comes after california just announced a new daylighting law that requires you to park at least

20 feet away from a crosswalk and sometimes even further back if the curb is painted red officials say these fake painted curves are causing confusion about the new law. if you see something like they didn't notice before and it seems like bright fresh and you're going when is that legit or not? you're asked to call 3, 1, 1, >> well, the san francisco zoo's leaping lemur cafe that's temporarily closed right now after health inspectors found rodent infestation. authorities say they suspended the facilities permit because of multiple health code violations, including the discovery of rodent droppings. so that closure is going to stay in place until the issues are fully addressed. again, that's that cafe in the san francisco zoo. >> definitely unsettling that. what you're telling and the family saying that we're going to have transparency would have one more meeting. those going to be a conversation and it definitely did. it's not the definition of

transparency. >> yeah. the vallejo parent teacher student association board president, they're frustrated with the district just days after a community town hall, which the vallejo city unified school district, had narrowed down its choices for possible school closures and consolidations. the superintendent says they need to do it in order to cut about 8 million dollars from the budget. currently, there are 19 schools serving about 9,000 students. the board will now vote on one of 3 options. and here's a brief description of each and are the first option. mare island health and fitness academy will close and lay a charter school will move to the mare island campus under the second option. loma vista, environmental science academy would be converted to a t through k and then k through 5th grade school with 6th and 8th graders moving to solano windham n leadership academy. and then there's the 3rd option on your screen. in that option, the district would completely close the loma vista, environmental science

meantime, a california attorney general is investigating openai over its plan to shift from non-profit to for-profit status. the attorney general's office wants to know how openai plans to handle its nonprofit assets, which by law must remain dedicated to charitable purposes. openai was founded in 2015 as a nonprofit but creating a for-profit arm to attract investors last year openai raised billions of dollars. critics are warning that this move could set a dangerous precedent for silicon valley with companies launching as nonprofits to benefit from the tax write off and then switching to for-profit in the future. president trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship. it's on hold this morning. >> we'll see why a judge says it violates the constituti

neither of their parents are u.s. citizens. the judge, an appointee of ronald reagan, said the order clearly violated the 14th amendment. this is step one. >> but to hear the judge from the bench say in his 40 years as a judge, he has never seen something so blatantly unconstitutional sets the tone for the seriousness of this effort. >> those who run la raza community resource center in san francisco's mission district. we're gratified with the ruling. it's utterly see that this trend has started on the right foot that we will fight back against the trump administration attempting to take away our our our basic rights. if the ruling is affirmed in 2 weeks, the trump administration could appeal and eventually the case could land at the u.s. supreme court. >> this federal judge and i believe other federal judges look at this executive order and view it as directly contravene in the 14th amendment. and i think there's good reason to believe that the supreme court would think

the same. in the meantime, republican lawmakers are taking matters into their own hands. >> to make birthright citizenship more restrictive. over here on vacation. yeah. and just happened o go in labor. the coming across border, dana illegally. and they're using us like the international piggy bank. >> at a news briefing thursday, they announce the birth rate citizen act of 2025. legislation that will solidify and codified the president's order this lawsuit is just one of 6 filed on behalf of 22 states and organizations. again, in this case, president trump's order is on hold for 14 days. the attorneys will file additional briefs and then the judge is set to reconvene on february 6 to make a final decision. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> in the south bay organizers held a roundtable in san jose to talk about what could be at stake now for different communities during the trump presidency. at the meeting, they address topics like immigration given the light of

a given the latest presidential executive orders. that group says trump's actions are already now setting things in motion for what could be for some another muslim ban. >> we have seen countless protests over the last year and a half challenging biden administration policies and we will continue to push back against any government official that wants to show up to our city and our community. and that is actively harming us. >> organizers say they are concerned about the future, but hopefully the community will be able to come together and face that when it happens. >> time now 33 and this morning, san francisco city leaders are trying to piece together what led up to a deadly crash that happened over the weekend in the south of market neighborhood. you can see the scene there on the monitors. crawford's lezla gooden has more on what leaders are doing to try prevent that from happening again. >> and he was known like and will be remembered by julia roman aco lost her youngest

son on sunday and the 7 car crash has 6 and harrison street in san francisco. >> according to supervisor matt dorsey of district 6 where the crash took place. the city has already been planning to take necessary steps to reduce speeding in this area. he tells me that most areas in south of market with ramps going on and off the highway have been flagged for areas of traffic violence. we've been advocating to deploy

>> you know what, what the circumstances are that would cause. >> we also spoke with says in a statement they are in the process of installing pedestrian bulb outs at this intersection as well as accessible pedestrian signals and adding new traffic signals and there have been proposed speed camera locations on the years in between 4th and 5th streets and several other nearby intersections to deter speeding in this neighborhood overall. additionally, there are automated red light cameras at 6 in folsom and 6 and brian street. there's going to be appearing. >> more people will get notice. isn't.

>> the public safety should be high on officials list. and if there are improvements to be made at >> intersection, it should be. there shouldn't be young seeing their lights. >> sfpd says 66 year-old john wings on the tesla driver involved in the crash was arrested and charged with vehicular manslaughter but was released on thursday. let's go in kron. 4 news. >> it's 36 and we want to give you some continuing coverage now in the wake of the federal indictment of former oakland mayor sheng thao. she is charged with 6 counts of conspiracy, bribery, mail, fraud and wire fraud and her partner, andrea jones as well as 2 businessmen. david and andy duong are also facing charges. how has pleaded not guilty on all counts if she's convicted, the penalties range from years in prison to supervisor released 2 up to a

million dollars in fines. our legal analyst michael cardoza says regardless of the outcome, it's going to take a toll on her political reputation. >> bringing in a like this again, somebody so famous, you've ruined their lives basically just by bringing it because even if a guest this mister not guilty, you know, everybody's going to say, well, what you get off of a technicality. >> the defendants are due to return to federal court in early february. in the north bay. more than 60 people are losing their jobs. there were layoffs and a male only p% medical facility for state prisoners. the california medical facility in vacaville was at the center of a labor dispute. and those affected the jobs include contracted janitorial and custodial workers. the union representing them says that the facility was in violation of state law because the workers were subcontracted through a company in it higher than the state employees and workers contract was

francisco, a lease agreement has been reached to bring grocery outlet to the north point center, which is on bay street. it's going to be in the old safeway, which was closed back in 2023 in the past years. a lot of the smaller businesses in the center have shut down because there just wasn't a lot of foot traffic. now with this new anchor moving and they're hoping business will come back. >> yeah, i mean, we're looking forward to having actor anger and they're in the building. it will be good to actually see. time's come in coming. if there is an coming in, that's the main draw mean just to get more tenants into the building. >> the ceo of grocery outlet had this to say saying that they know how important the site is to the community and they're thrilled to be able to be able to further their commitment to san francisco. all goes well, the new grocery outlet will open next year. young people exit foster care in san jose are getting a new opportunity. it's a program called my first place and it's moving 9 of these kids coming
