a short time ago in which some local elected officials and nonprofits discussed some of the challenges that the community is facing. in half moon bay on friday, nonprofits, all us and the national farm worker ministry along with local elected officials held a ceremony to honor those who died in the tragic shootings 2 years ago. >> as we remember their lives, we honor them. we honor the work and what they contributed ways to this community many following the shootings farmworker chunli zhao was arrested and charged with allegedly killing 7 of his co-workers at 2 different farms in half moon bay. >> he has pled not guilty to 7 counts of first-degree murder and is currently in custody awaiting trial in the wake of the shootings. a lot of attention was focused on the poor living conditions that many farmworkers indoor friday ceremony are also concerned that in the months and years ahead, many farm workers, especially those who are undocumented immigrants could be forced to leave the country

as the trump administration ramps up deportation efforts. >> the rhetoric coming down from the federal level >> is pushing those who need the most help into the shadows. people who we rely upon to bring food to our table. >> it is our farmworkers, their labor, their sacrifice, their hard work of them and their families that make america what it is that provides food on our table every day. and finally, the city of half moon bay is currently working on designing and installing a permanent memorial. >> to honor the victims of the shootings. all right, back live. now. there's also a vigil planned for this evening here in downtown half moon bay at 06:00pm. >> but for now in half moon bay, charles clifford kron, 4 news. charles, thank you so much. >> now update to a story we've been following sunday marks 3 years since oakley woman. alexis gabe was reported missing this week. it was announced the mother of the man accused of killing gave will not face any charges for sara stinson reports.

>> it's over for it was a big day and very big, disappointing day for us. >> when gabe feeling defeated after learning the mother of the man accused of killing his daughter, alexis will not be facing charges. very sad day for it'll be 3 years the sunday since gabe was last seen. the oakley woman was 24 years old when her remains were found in amador county after her family reported her missing in january 2022. gabe's ex-boyfriend, marshall curtis jones was charged with her murder, but he was shot and killed by arresting officers in washington state in june of 2022, the contra costa county district attorneys office was also investigating if jones's mother, alicia coleman, clark helped cover up the murder. the da's office says investigators searched her home and interviewed her boyfriend to see if she paid for her son to fly to washington. and while prosecutors say some

information raised suspicion about coleman clark's potential culpability as an accessory after the fact they could not find sufficient evidence to charge her. this despite the gabe family presenting evidence to the da last month, there's just a mountain of small pieces of evidence. that's one of the attorneys for the game family. dara cashman. i fundamentally disagree. >> with the da's decision, presented the evidence in a manner that i thought was compelling to them. so what she did in my mind is unconscionable and he's clearly. >> not lawful were confused to why. >> think it's still not in doubt. that's what really infuriates me. no da diana becton released a statement saying in part. >> our office has worked tirelessly over the past 3 years to pursue every lead. while we have concluded our investigation into this matter, we remain committed to supporting the gabe family. i

encounter between an agent and a san francisco unified student yesterday. this all comes in response to a letter by balboa high school's president principle, rather, which said a student reported being approached by an ice agent last them for id and where they were from the letter did at the student was not harmed or detained and they are with family. to be clear, san francisco unified did call the encounter an unconfirmed report and at the des des, the district will remain a safe haven for all students. regardless of citizenship status. the supervisor shamann walton released the following steps for anyone who might be contacted by an ice agent. it's important to stay calm. he says you are not required to answer questions about your immigration status or where you were born. he also adds it. it's not necessary to open the door without seeing a warrant document that incident safely without interfering and ask for a lawyer. if you are detained. san francisco sheriff released a statement on immigration policy changes saying, quote, my deputies

cannot prevent ice from enforcing immigration laws, but we will not tolerate a culture of fear and mistrust that undermines immigrants, safety freedoms and rights. that statement does go on to say nor will we sit idly by as opportunistic criminals, killing profit off until trade criminals victimized all of san francisco, including our immigrant community. and serves over the immigration issue, not just in the latino community, and know there are a number of other groups as well. the asian law caucus joining other immigrant rights organizations this week to sue the trump administration over the executive order aiming to remove birthright citizenship. in a statement, the executive director for the asian law caucus says, quote, if you're born here, you are a citizen period. no politician, including president trump can decide who is american or not. and turning now to the southern california wildfires, president trump plans in los angeles this afternoon to tour damage neighborhoods in the palisades fire zone. just yesterday, the president said he would encourage funding be sent to la county, but he

burning right now in southern california. the palisades fire burned more than 23,000 acres. so far it is 77% contained. fire burned more than 14,000 acres. it is. 95% contained. the hughes fire burned more than 10,000 acres. it is. 56% contained and the laguna fire has burned more than 90 acres. there is 70% containment on that fire. taking a look at huff who is here with our future cast. a deal has going. >> yeah, you know, there's more favorable weather for the fires and la. well show that. so not only are we expecting rain down in southern california. we're also expecting some light rain here in the bay area. so it's played in motion for you. so this is today. we see that transition day with the clouds rolling in and here saturday. now notice all that green, that light rain trending south here. so we could see a few raindrops in our area. but

this is going to be the first storm, significant storm for southern california since the spring. and, you know, also see some mountain snow in sierra and down in southern california, a slight risk of thunderstorms. and as we do that falls under over a burned scar that could trigger debris flows, mudslides and possible flash flooding. but other than that, this looks to be mostly beneficial rain because it's been bone dry as we know that's been fueling those wildfires this pad. this set over the past few weeks. other now we we dry out on monday have a bit of some offshore winds coming our way. so here they're projected rain totals across the state. so it is a system that citing inland, as you can see, snow 2 to 5 inches around the sierra down to mammoth lakes and then maybe about a quarter of an inch or more in the los angeles area in the santa barbara area, just about a 10th of an inch in the san francisco in the bay area. so not a whole lot for us. current temperatures out the door. we are cooler now into

to help late-stage dementia patients. researchers at the university of kentucky are leading the study but is funded by the national institutes of health. they're looking into ways to keep patients as comfortable as possible during their final years. they believe medical marijuana could be an effective treatment. >> very few medicines to used to provide comfort in the later stages of dementia while the field largely focused finding ways to prevent potentially slow or stop the disease in its early stages. we've forgotten about those later stage. patients that are eligible for those types of treatments. >> available treatments include sedatives, which can leave patients unconscious. researchers are enrolling candidates for clinical trials. they're hoping for a nationwide sample. >> the price of rising once again customers can blame the recent bird flu outbreak. >> according to the consumer price prices are up more than 36% from last year. a major reason for the price hike is

transparency. >> the vallejo pd a board president frustrated with the district just days after a community town hall, the district narrow down its choices for possible school closures and consolidations. the superintendent says it needs to cut about 8 million dollars from its budget. right now, there are 19 schools serving about 9,000 students. the board will now vote on one of 3 options under the first option, mare island, health and fitness academy will close and vallejo charter school will move to the mare island campus under the second option. loma vista, environmental science academy would be converted into a tea through k through 5th grade school and the 6 to 8th graders would move to solano wide in men. leadership academy and 3rd option. the district completely close the loma vista, environmental science academy even prune. the ptsa president. she says the shortlist came as a surprise to her and families their island have many questions about the possible consolidation. >> i'm not only speaking from my child like that psp parent.

panda as the 3 old bally and qingdao here at the smithsonian national zoo. that panda that you are looking at up in the tree is the female panda bao team our girl. she is a little more independence. he kind of likes to do own thing. how just loves his keepers, loves his you know, can his words. he talks to all the time. everyone is excited to see these pandas on friday. they made their public debut right here at the zoo and the minute people see them be stopped. the smile, they pull out their phones and take pictures of these pandas in the pan does have a history with dc the dates back over 50 years in 2023, the giant pandas on loan to the zoo returned to china. and for almost a year, the roanoke and in the district. but in may 2020 for the announcement came that the pandas will return in
