about the living conditions of farmworkers in the victims on her current force. charles clifford has that story. >> well, here in half moon bay, it has been 2 years since that tragic shooting on friday. neighbors and local officials came together to discuss the tragedy and also talk about some of the challenges that the undocumented immigrant farmworker community is facing. in half moon bay on friday, nonprofits, all u.s. and the national farm worker ministry along with local elected officials. >> held a ceremony to honor those who died in the tragic shootings 2 years ago. >> as we remember their lives, we honor them. we honor the work and what they contributed and continue contribute many ways to this community following the shootings farmworker chunli zhao was arrested and charged with allegedly killing 7 of his co-workers at 2 different farms in half moon bay. >> he has pled not guilty to 7 counts of first-degree murder and is currently in custody awaiting trial in the wake of the shootings. a lot of attention was focused on the poor living conditions that

marshall jones, was charged with her murder but was shot and killed by arresting officers in washington just a few months later, authorities were investigating of jones's mother coleman clark helped cover up the murder, but they say they could not find sufficient evidence to charge her a contra costa county, d a diana becton says that they pursued every lead and finish their investigation. despite the gabe family presenting evidence last month. >> presented the evidence in a manner that i thought was compelling to them. so what she did in my mind is unconscionable and he's clearly not lawful, were confused to why. the peak. still not in >> that's what really infuriates me know. it's over for us. >> gabe's father says his family has decided to join the recall effort of da backed in the statute of limitations on charges for jones's mother

actually expires this sunday. the gabe family will also be holding the second annual day of kindness in honor of alexis appeal to prize winning cartoonist with area ties is out of jail. >> with a gps monitor tonight after being accused of having child. darren bell is being held on a million dollars bail but was released ahead of his court hearing. prosecutors brought up 3 new allegations against him in are asking that all of his devices be searched and for him to be banned from having any further contact with minors. investigators say they found more than 100 videos of child abuse linked to an account controlled by bell. and the thousands more exist. bell started his career as a cartoonist. well attending uc berkeley and went on to freelance at the san francisco chronicle and oakland tribune. he's expected to be back in court next month.

>> in the south bay, santa clara county's largest homeless shelter is back open after a big renovation in san jose. the book reception center held a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome back. residents and staff the renovation included redoing rooms, painting the lobby and adding more bathrooms. organizers say it goes beyond improving the shelter's appearance. we are able to support individuals and meet them where they're at. we can provide a safe and welcoming space for individuals that are coming in from the cold. >> our center is going to more clips to really provide that quality service and providing privacy to individuals to meet one-on-one. there's not one answer to solving homelessness, but what i can say is that there is one solution and that means that we're all working together meet the community needs assist. >> the shelter can serve 250 people every night. >> this weekend, areas ravaged by fires in southern california. >> just looks like a bomb went off in these neighborhoods. they're expected to get some rain much-needed right? seems

going to build >> we as strong and stronger than ever. but in the meanwhile, there's a lot of work to do. >> was alina abovian reporting for us tonight. several crews in the bay area got the call to help fight the fires in southern california, san francisco fire department had 41 personnel there at the worst of it. everyone pitched in to help. and today a pacific palisades resident came up to san francisco to thank firefighters here. kron four's rob nesbitt was there and has the story on friday. the firefighters station. twenty-five in san francisco got a thank you from someone whose homes survived the palisades fire because of their hard work. eugene quote, got a tour of the fire station and got the chance to shake the hands of several firefighters. >> he lives in pacific palisades where the palisades fire burned more than 23,000 acres. it was really chaotic. everyone was. >> everyone was doing the best and the fire was spreading fast and pass the throughout the day. and by afternoon it was spreading so fast that the

entire area had to be evacuated after evacuation orders were lifted. he was able to go back to his home. he saw firefighters from station. 25 on scene. >> working to protect his neighborhood. captain jonathan baxter says the san francisco fire department had more than 40 firefighters in southern california when the flames were at their worst. we just it was called the crew change. >> mean that we send fresh firefighters down to relieve the firefighters who have been there for 10 to 15 days. clock says without their efforts, his home by now be standing today. he's still not able to move back in because of smoke and ash damage. so while staying with family in san francisco, you want to stop and show appreciation with me being evacuated. i spent some time >> with my family here and i really the more i thought about it, i really wanted to thank them because they were instrumental in stopping the spread on our blog. otherwise all 24 houses would have been paying down, helps justify individual firefighters perspective. well, there battling a fire like they are right now and they're seeing

>> our government failed california. these mega fires could have been prevented if our government had done its job. representative josh harder believes the fixer for a stack would help fire officials be more proactive. >> rather reactive when battling wildfires, it would create an interagency fire center focusing on fire assessment in prediction. >> having a center is really going to allow us to have a one-stop shop to be able to empower our firefighters out in the field with the best information possible. it would also establish a casualty assistance program support critically ill or injured firefighters and their family members along with family of deceased firefighters. it would also fix reimbursement delays to local fire departments and support forest restoration. this is absolutely essential. not just for our state, but for the entire united states. however, several environmental groups
