together to remember lives lost. thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. i'm dan thorn and i'm noelle bellow. >> this week marks 2 years since a disgruntled employee opened fire, killing 7 farmworkers in half moon bay. the tragedy has ignited advocacy for farm workers rights and quality of housing. today, local organizations held a vigil to reflect on those who were killed. crawford's jack moment has more. >> the vigil is meant to honor the 7 farmworkers who were killed 2 years ago this week. there was also a shot over the vigil with many people here fearful over what the next 4 years of immigration policy can bring. >> close from you it a sauber

friday evening as the community remembers those who are gone out now more than ever. i think that showing up really is going to be more than half of and i had to remind to protect those who are still with them. you know, it's been it's been tough. belinda hernandez are ya got runs a nonprofit who hosted the two-year memorial for the half moon bay mass shooting. >> on january, 23rd 2023, a disgruntled farm worker shot and killed 7 farmworkers and critically injured. one other the shooting ignited a massive conversation on how farmworkers many undocumented are treated. the past 2 years have been spent trying to get better housing and advocate for better resources and we can never. >> fully imagine what the families are going. really, you know, this loss for them is forever. so coming together after 2 years is a must for us to not for kids to keep their memory going to also pledge that we will never allow this to happen again. >> you know what it feels.

>> 3 a prayer and had written letters. a couple 100 people here on friday. no, this year's memorial comes with a shot in the days ahead of us. we're going to be called upon to have that heard many of the undocumented farm workers who wanted to show up friday to grieve, stay at home after recent executive order by president trump crackdown on immigration. but i want this message to reach >> what would that everyone at the county i spoke to had one thing say and that's what we stand undocumented community will not be deterred know was also left at a loss just a day after the president's inauguration basically saying that, you know, champ is here, pack your bags and report. >> to ice. but that still did not stop this large crowd from showing up. support. it hits home. and for me, it is an emotional time. but i'm grateful for the love of the community coming together.

>> now there is a permanent memorial in the works set to honor those lives that were lost 2 years ago. and when it's completed, it will be in fernandez park in half moon bay. but it'll take a couple of years to complete reporting here in half moon bay jack moment. kron, 4 news. >> everyone standing in front of the house. they want to go to work and they're not allowed to do the most in a way to use a long the safe. >> president donald trump clashing with los angeles mayor karen bass during his visit to la today. the president calling mayor bass's timeline for wildfire relief to slow demanding she wave permitting requirements so people can start rebuilding immediately. mayor bass said residents should be able to return to their homes within the week, but keeping people safe from hazardous materials is her top priority. both of the deadly palisades and eaton fires are nearing full containment tonight. the palisades fire now 79% contained and has burned nearly 23,500 acres in the pacific palisades area.

meantime, eaton fire is 95% contained. it's burned just over 14,000 acres. crews have been getting a lot of ground on the hughes fire, which is burning in castaic. >> north of santa clarita. and that's now at 79% containment, which is up from 54% from just a few hours that fires burned about 10,000 acres and evacuation orders have also sent spend lift it. >> while rain is needed for the very dry region over there could present some new dangers for the areas that are already scorched fears of mudslides and whatnot, depending on how much rain they get. lawrence has been tracking the forecast down there. lawrence, what are they in store for this? yeah, you know, finally some good news. the winds really backed off. and so just a light on shore breeze right now. >> after really extremely strong santa ana winds over the last couple of weeks. but now things have calmed down quite a bit, really helping firefighters out there tonight. looks like that will be the case as we head through

the night tonight. you see the winds very light out there right now and more that onshore breeze. also bring up the humidity just a little bit anyway. but watching for now as the storm system rolling on in likely to bring some rain there. and so we've got some flood watches that are posted throughout the entire weekend until all the way until monday, actually, 4 o'clock in the afternoon. what we're concerned about as a possibility of some isolated thunderstorms. if you get a thunderstorm sitting over one of the burn scar areas, you can see some heavy amounts of rainfall coming down in a short amount of time. and that could lead to some mudslides and some debris flows overall. i think the rain event is going to be healthy rain. we're talking about a 3rd, maybe a half an inch, maybe a little bit more. there are more storms to come in february. they're going to see this issue continue least to get a little break from all those gusty winds and that high fire danger. thank you, lawrence. new at 11 tonight, fairfield police say they busted 3 illegal grow houses earlier this month. in total, they seized a whopping 2000

cannabis plants. >> as part of ongoing operations, investigators have shut down 11 illegal grow houses in fairfield over the course of the past 6 months. food truck owner in the hospital tonight with critical injuries after being shot in vallejo kron four's philippe to call has the very latest on the search for the suspect. >> alone, gunshot slipped past most years. niro my of food, mart and liquor in vallejo thursday night. >> it took just seconds for a verbal encounter in the parking lot to turn violent when the suspect pulled out a gun and opened fire at a truck owner is always bad somebody gets ways the victim hosted a pop-up selling chicken wings outside the store on race street coming into town from his home base in richmond. a witness says someone wearing dark clothing walked up to the truck, parked out front, exchanged words with a man and fired one shot. >> before running off toward the marina. police have not released a motive behind the

shooting. it's sad because if things that are doing their jobs, you know, and >> when they beat in that thinking about getting robbed or shot. a witness says the victim's mother was inside the food truck at the time and called 9-1-1 bystanders performed cpr on the victim before police and paramedics arrived. >> police say he remains hospitalized with injuries, threatening his life the last minute have years. it's been it's you know, the kids could play. they. >> do what they would. it was so neighbors are concerned about violence citywide less than 2 weeks ago, a 4 year-old girl was critically wounded during a shootout in the crest neighborhood considered a rougher part of town. >> the marina is seen by locals as more welcoming to visitors, but clearly not immune to gunfire everywhere. >> it's not just the crest re west south of the you know, >> it so far no arrests have

been made in vallejo. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. police have identified a man who was struck and killed while riding his bike in walnut creek earlier this week. >> 49 year-old carlos aguilar reyes was riding his bicycle to work on north main street near ne show valley road when he was struck by a car. police say the driver remained at the scene. now a spokesperson for the city of walnut creek said police are not expecting any charges to be filed. aguilar reyes leaves behind a wife and 2 children. a gofundme has been set up to help his family with funeral and burial expenses. there are heightened fears tonight with an immigrant communities across the bay area after recent reports of ice agents on a san francisco muni bus city officials have since debunked those reports. but as kron four's lezla gooden reports that's not easing panic in the community. >> yes, there is growing concern right now about ice agents being in and around the bay area. on thursday, san

francisco school officials sent out a letter to parents saying a student was approached by an ice agent while riding the 29 muni bus and that the agent asked for his their id and where they were from now. san francisco mayor now telling us tonight that did not happen earlier today. i caught up with the mayor de lory while he was visiting a fire station in san francisco. i addressed him directly about the alleged ice encounter on a muni bus and how president trump's promise on mass deportation has many residents now on edge. here's how he responded a question. sorry, sorry. we got many want to know about the muni, concerned that we're out a statement that it wasn't fair. fresno, i'm sorry say it, make sure that you guys i got it. but we got around. mayor, do you have anything to say? a lot of people are very scared right now. they would like to hear directly. really appreciate it. now, make sure that you have are i got this state and the people want to hear directly from you. this care. >> the very scared were

reaching out to community leaders were talking to people were gathering information in yesterday's rumors. >> it's just it. we understand people are fearful. and so we we are in contact right now with community leaders we will continue to communicate with the public. we also reached out to ice about this encounter and they told us in his statement that they were not involved. >> and this incident, we also heard from local nonprofits like mission action about this and they gave us the following statement saying we want to reassure everyone that we are actively investigating this incident at this time. we have been unable to verify the report and are unable to provide additional information beyond what is currently available. and this is what you can do. if you find yourself contacted by an ice agent, first, a calm and remains silent. you are not required to answer questions about your immigration status or where you were born to do

francisco transit officials say they're experiencing a major budget shortfall. >> and are calling on the community for help that event. is inviting the public to a meeting next week to discuss ways to raise funds. this comes as the transit agency says it's staring down a potential 320 million dollar budget gap. officials cited decline in funding and high inflation as the reasons for this deficit. the agency warned of potential cuts to muni and other services its next public discussion will be on friday, january 20th, where people can attend in person or online. >> the last remaining jc penney location on the peninsula, shutting down for good jc penney, located inside tim berners, 10 friend mall permanently closing a spokesperson for the store. didn't say why. but the mall is set to transform into a biotech office space after

being bought a few years back. jc penney has 7 other bay area locations. >> target the latest company to announce its rolling back their diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives following president trump's executive order. the retailer stated it will be ending a program established to help black employees build meaningful careers. target will also conclude goals the company had previously set. several major corporations like meta mcdonald's, walmart and ford have retreated from similar programs fearing legal issues. despite major brands scaling back yesterday, costco announced it's not gonna be following suit. the companies rejecting a shareholder proposal calling for a review of the risks dei policies may pose. alcatraz. ferry workers reached the union deal. the union announced the result of their final vote today after reaching a tentative deal last week, they went on strike several times last year and

they've been negotiating for a contract for some time. >> taking a live >> outside at sfo plane taking off late tonight. you can see it's cloudy out there. >> anyone looking to come into the city this weekend are headed down to southern california or anywhere. might see a little bit of rain. how are how about that? some snow in the mountains. we might even see a little snow showing up in our mountain tops as well. just a little bit. but a really big change in the pattern. finally begin to show up as we're going to see a return to some wintry weather around the state out there now. the clouds have moved in today will probably see those clouds kind of sweep by overnight tonight as they begin to clear out just a little bit. temperatures in the vehicle were talking about some freezing temperatures around parts of the area overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. so another cold start your day tomorrow. temperatures cooling off out there already numbers to 47 degrees in fremont. 44 in livermore, 38 now in napa and 43 degrees in fairfield. but

much colder. we see some of the clouds move out and as they move out, the temperatures really going to fall off. so we've got a freeze watch posted up in the north bay, continuing the east bay, the santa clara valley, even up along the peninsula going to see some unusually cold temperatures overnight tonight and early tomorrow morning. not 20's, but lots of 30's tomorrow. so some patchy frost likely as you get up tomorrow early on and then we're going to see some clouds continuing to move on overhead. even a chance of some scattered showers. doppler radar finally picking up some green out there. even some snow over the mountain tops. but the bigger system still yet to come that is dropping in. there's not much moisture with it. but as its acts of the south, that's going to bring with it. some very cold air and some gusty winds over the mountain tops to some blustery winds, 40 some 50 mile an hour gusts likely over some of the north bay mountain tops. so be aware of that. but overall, the pattern going to take a major shift. finally after a very dry january here comes that rain rolling in as we get into sunday all the way to southern california showers continuing their lots of snow up in the high country behind that. we've got another storm likely to roll in by late thursday into friday. and that will be
