>> i've been here 26 years, but this is the first time that i feel that. you know, the extreme panic. >> plus, we're hearing from bay area immigrants fearful of leaving homes at a concern to being deported. >> my major completely just doesn't seem like. the university of business sports. >> did not think that happened whatsoever. >> and sonoma state university slashing its athletic getting rid of some programs entirely. we speak with disappointed students and staff as they prepare to fight back. >> it said. and good morning. thank you for joining us here on kron. 4 morning news. i'm theresa it is sunday january. 26. >> let's get a start of your sunday by looking at the weather with gayle ong. it's kind of chilly out there, dale. it sure is. am. >> raindrops but not a whole lot. we're trending drier today. yesterday we saw some scattered light rain. let's

take a live look at the radar to see where that activity is really aiming towards the central coast. the central valley and southern california for the bay area. >> not so much. a closer look here. don't see whole lot. maybe just some lingering light drizzle right off the coast. there. >> over spotty showers over back gilroy and there's the rain over by the central valley over by the fresno area and some snow heading towards the yosemite area over by the foothills there, a little dusting over in south lake tahoe and back here in the bay area. so looks like will be trending drier. it is chilly, though. the winds are. it's a bit breezy, especially for you in the north bay hills. we have a wind advisory and the next few hours just bring that jacket because what we are, we are chilly in the 40's and we will be cooling down as well in the 50's for daytime highs. i'll be back with the extended forecast in a bit. >> gayle, thank you for that. young man is fighting for his life this morning after a shootout at a valero gas station to college east bay students were injured. now the

shooting is drawing increased attention to that city kron. four's jack moment explains. >> caldera times. campus students are on edge after 2 of their own were shot traumatize. we don't really hear about much gun violence and yet second happened. every was really scared. the shooting happened on tuesday just after 7 in the evening at this express gas station on tennessee avenue. you can see the suspected shooter here standing next to their car and the next clip you see them shoot from the driver's side window towards this man in a blue hoodie. the white truck here caught in the crossfire and inside were 2 cal maritime students you see here running for safety, running down their clothes from the gunshot wounds. a gofundme for one of the victims says the student was put in a medically induced coma after being shot in the face. the road to recovery will be long. the other student shot was released from the hospital. the president of the university put out a statement the next day saying, quote, given this unprovoked criminal attack on our

colleagues. i remind everyone to exercise the utmost caution and always maintain situational awareness of what is going on around you. will the shooting happened just about 3 miles away from the university. many students we spoke to on saturday. tell us that they're fearful of the crime just about every time they have to leave campus kind of like going in a resort, a 3rd world country. >> just don't leave it. yeah. that's how these freshman maritime students who are from southern california, described the leah hope. >> they say they've seen crime just about weekly and say they want to see more police. we have more cops on campus that in the city. so, yeah, there's very little policing around last year, kron 4 reported the vallejo police department 31 officers when they're supposed to have over 100 rose looking over our shoulder like we know the threat that's out there. but despite the fear, the students are happy for the community support. everyone's reposting ensuring go fund me so the entire school has their back. yeah. the schools also helping out telling us to maintain situational awareness and all that a suspect is under arrest at vallejo. police say they're still investigating the shooting.

reporting in vallejo jack moment. kron 4 news. >> also, you in the east bay, richmond's mayor and city manager released a joint statement saturday pledging to stand by the city's majority latino population amid federal immigration policy changes. now, according to the 2023 census, the community has a population estimated about 114,000 people with nearly 47% big hispanic or latino officials emphasize that richmond police do not inquire about immigration status and added that they are committed to upholding our sanctuary city policies. now, despite pressure from the trump administration, officials in other bay area cities are also committing to protecting immigrants, including those without legal status. now me to county officials recently held a meeting in oakland announcing a new effort to uphold protections for those at risk of deportation. i have for president president david

haubert to put forward a committee and ad hoc committee that will protect our alameda county communities. >> i am very, very excited that we're moving forward in that regard. i hope that you will come and express support for that committee so that we can do the proactive work to protect to support and lift up our communities who might be fearful during this time. >> county officials have launched a website to provide resources for the provides a list of legal resources and it has information on for future workshops aimed at educating the undocumented. there's a hotline also to report an answer questions to be expected. that's all going to happen on february. 17th. meanwhile, in san francisco kron four's dan kerman spoke with families about how the recent changes to immigration policies in this country are affecting their lives. >> and then you see it. then

you scan your thing. levy unlikey. i've been here 26 years. but this is the first time that i feel that. you know, the extreme panic. >> and not wanting to leave my house. >> at la raza community resource center in san francisco's mission district. they're having their twice weekly food pantry. but there are fewer people here than usual. and those that are coming in are getting what they want and quickly returning home from visiting dentist come in tte most. there are so many immigrants that have come to this country to to better ourselves. >> and now to be looked at as really criminals and that that that added to the president, these 2 women who didn't want their identities revealed. >> have both lived in san francisco for more than 25 years. but now the notion of immigration agents breaking down their doors at any minute is a constant fear in the wake of president trump's new crackdown on immigrants, especially now that schools and churches are no longer off

limits. second time, in fact, that's good. you will tell you that yeah, go to church a lot. so, you know, with the new suppose the changes that that the rays can happen in fearful, i don't know. should i go should not go. i go there earlier and then my my son goes later. but right now we've decided that we're going to go together. >> in case something happens, we want to be together. >> and the fear these 2 women have is not just for themselves. both have children in their 20's and the concern revolves around whether the president will be successful in redefining birthright citizenship, which their kids currently have 2 men local book eli, connecticut, that's it worries me a lot that they buy take their citizenship away because are new unity kids that have worked very hard to be citizens for now. all they can do is press and take extra precautions and get as much information as possible only think that it's important to to go to workshops and also to watch tv and get information.

>> because instead of being panicked. >> create power. you're powerful. >> those that have questions about how these new laws impact them and what their rights are should contact local community organizations like la raza. in san francisco, dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> in other local news coaches and students from sonoma state action in order to block in l - hopes of blocking the board of trustees from cutting the athletics programs at the north bay college faculty are calling upon their union to file an injunction to stop the board. the joined the group save seawolves athletics, which included students alumni and faculty such as the assistant coach for the soccer team. benjamin is emer who also filed a civil rights lawsuit on behalf of some of the athletes. he says that over 200 student athletes. so the most diverse group campus and they are now being forced to go elsewhere. >> we met with our team

yesterday. we had a training and basically at that point we're saying we're sorry will help you have or we can finding different schools are institutions. you can go to. but i mean, you can imagine the tears that the anguish, these these students and then you have the whole academic side of all these major scott people that are so close to graduating and all said and they're just cutting out from under them. >> school officials point to a 38% drop in enrollment is one of the leading reasons for the 23.9 million dollar budget deficit. in addition to the athletics program, several academic departments and majors will be caught and nearly 50. faculty contracts not renew. a town hall meeting is scheduled for next thursday, january 30th kron. 4 news has reached out to the university for a comment on the impending lawsuit. but have not heard back. the jp morgan healthcare conference will return to san francisco next year. the company's 2025 conference wrapped up a week

ago and was widely seen as success with tens of thousands of visitors coming to san francisco. now, according to san francisco, mayor daniel lurie, ys office, the conference generated nearly 100 million in economic impact for the city. now, mayor lurie issued a statement on the news saying, quote, we are thrilled that the jp morgan healthcare conference is coming back next year. well, we still have work to do. this is a huge vote of confidence in our city and everything that we're doing to make san francisco is safe welcoming place for residents, businesses and visitors. still ahead on kron, 4 news, this record may look official, but >> it's actually not why this race is getting the attention san francisco city leaders. and plus the oakland unified school district is on track to run out of money this district leaders are trying to 152 million dollar budget next. and it is the end of a

>> let's take a look at this. this is king's beach and you tpcan see, i guess a little bit of snow coming down. this makes me incredibly happy. and guess what? gayle ong is here with an even better shot with their fuzzy boots because he is going to be going off. up to tahoe to give us some wag ports. but get to that later. but look at that way. that's blocking it will see it later. but yet you want snow. take a look at incline village and north part of the lake.

>> it looks beautiful out there and current conditions. it's at lake tahoe, 13 degrees. it was actually 12 degrees just 5 minutes ago. we have some calm winds out there, but some winter weather advisories. if you're heading out today. but the rest of early next week looks good for chilly in the 30's and 40's with sunny skies. so here's that winter weather advisory for much of the western down to mammoth lakes and the yosemite. this until 04:00pm sunday roads just checked our chain controls. i'm checking that out. heading there right after work. yeah, i'm so we have breezy conditions here at mount tam so breezy in the north bay hills. we actually have a wind advisory. but overnight service, you may notice some windy conditions as well. this is today. this is 11:00am. you see mostly sunny skies at times and just mix of sun and clouds. and really, just we clear out for much of the day and then here is the we don't have a lot of rain yesterday. we got a few rain drops. you may have noticed it on the windshield.

now we're trending drier and let's talk about the chilly temperatures. we're actually warming up in napa, but we're about, you know, a mixed bag here about 3 to 6 degrees down and we were yesterday. but you may have noticed it's pretty chilly out there. we've we've kind of been in this trend for quite a while. so it's not really new. we have 30's and 40's across the board. we're actually in a frost advisory until 09:00am. and that's going to upgrade to a freeze. watch. so this low is just digging in here in spring of some precipitation, cold weather and those breezy conditions. here is the wind today. this is 10:00am that of some offshore winds here anywhere between 20 to 25 miles per hour. even 50 miles per hour in the highest peaks here, the winds should ease towards the evening. really just staying breezy up in the mountains. and here is that wind advisory. so just until 10:00am, if you notice some breezy conditions and here is that cold alert, freeze, watch, starting monday overnight through wednesday.

so another long stretch of some chilly temperatures. we could see upper 20's and we did see that in napa this past week. here are your highs today staying in the 60's and maybe some upper 50's. so trending cooler once again. and here is that 7 day outlook where we are trending drier for the start of the week. but it looks like the storm door may be reopening once again the end of the weekend. maybe rain into next weekend. but yes, fuzzy boots you mentioned. let's see. i see the fuzzy because if as the boots, i think use that to no. but were told that we couldn't show those yet, but we will. yeah, we'll get a better shot at night. before the day. and yet the morning. thanks, gayle. that. >> fire crews in los angeles county continue to make progress on containment. even has 2 new wildfires have sparked this week. the palisades fire has burned over 23,000 acres and has reached 84% containment. the eaton fire burned over 14,000 acres

and matt is still at 95% containment for now, the hughes fire that started earlier this week burning near castic lake has burned over 10,000 acres and is now 90% contained. and ventura county, the laguna fire has burned nearly 100 acres and is now 98% contained. the threat of rain this weekend is raising concerns in recent burn zones. residents are being urged to prepare for the possibility of mudslides and even flooding. firefighters in the national guard are doing their part to help prepare residents. >> we're trying to make sure that anything that might be toxic or any large debris year. fast-moving water gets trapped here for so that the communities downstream from here are affected which would lead to flooding and possibly those committees, which is the last thing they want after a big fired into their community. >> now we'll keep you updated as we learn more about the situation in los angeles. and

in addition to food, wildlife at wildfire victims are in critical need of clothing and everyday household items. volunteers at the national council of jewish women in los angeles. they spent the day sorting items before donating them to victims volunteers say the donations have been pouring in from all over the country. >> we're so very grateful for people across la across the county and across the nation to send donations. the they're dropping off or million in donations. so where we have gotten so many donations that we have to have these events like this and we plan to have a lot more. >> now, all of this was founded in 19 0, 9, by 16 women to provide essential services to angelina the cia now believes that the deadly covid virus likely originated in a lab in china but admits it has low confidence in its

own conclusion. the newly appointed cia director declassified documents about the origin of covid-19 on orders by president trump. the findings are not new. they pleted during the biden administration. the agency believes that their evidence makes the origin in a lab more likely than a natural outbreak. intelligence officials say it's likely the question will never be resolved because chinese officials refuse to fully cooperate. it is the end of a chapter books inc, the oldest independent bookstore company in the bay area shutting down its berkeley location. the closure comes as the company is trying to sort out its financial problems for loyal customers. the end is bittersweet. turning of every page. >> books has been welcoming readers of all ages to its store in berkeley for the past 10 years for neighbors like rachel lefkowitz, the bookstore has always been a

part of her walk around town. come here all the time. find some of my favorite authors that i don't find anywhere else. people are always incredibly helpful. >> her treasure hunt, unfortunately, will come to an end in february book saying is closing relocation after filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. we're very sad to see them. >> i go out of business. john wynette and his dog stopped by the store thursday afternoon and delivered a card to employees. he says the store has been special spot for both him and his little dog or dog loves to come visit here. the staff are wonderful now was given the tree. and he drags us here. we're also booked. file. so enjoy coming here for that as well. the company is offering its berkeley employees to transfer to other bay area locations. but for sarah bacon, the store's last day also be her couple of us, including myself, have declined those offers just because of

law that requires people to park at least 20 feet away from crosswalks and sometimes even further if the curb is painted red officials say that these fake red curbs are causing confusion about the new law. anyone who notices suspicious signs or curb markings is asked to call 3, 1, 1, is this morning. santa rosa city schools have reached an 86.3% graduation rate. according to school officials. that is a 2 point game from the rate before the covid-19 pandemic statewide. the graduation rate is 86.4%. according to the california department of education. however, a significant decline in enrollment has led to a major budget deficit without significant reduction in the deficit. the district will be bankrupt by the end of the year risking a state takeover. >> for your money this morning, a recent report shows

that san jose's economic growth failing in the wake of the pandemic. >> that is according to the milken institute who rate the city has 108 at a 200 large metro areas nationally, its best-performing cities report. now the ranking is based on the tech sector growth, labor market and access to economic opportunities and 2020 for the city was number. 44, but 10 years ago, it ranked as number one experts watching the economy says say that they do not think that that translates into a drop in their regions growth. one expert stating that the companies mandating returning to offices instead of remote work could help the city's ranking overall. >> still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, thousands of pro life and pro choice advocates in san francisco for the annual march from plus, the

a whole lot. >> we've had that trend for a while now with the cold mornings and nights and mild afternoons, you know, today is similar temperatures as yesterday in the upper 50's. a live look from the east bay hills, the sea, a mix of clouds out there. here's that satellite and radar. a closer look. don't see a lot of activity on our in the bay area. but a lot of that rain has moved on. it's heading towards the central coast. it looks like in parts of the central valley. so a little few raindrops and your way. and thire's that rain over by the fresno area. merced said county heading and snow heading towards the yosemite there shaver lake by the foothills. and it's a little bit of snow in the sierra as well. so back here at home, we're trending drier today. winds that we could be breezy overseeing a breeze at 23 miles per hour in san francisco, in half moon bay, breezy in the mountains, the north bay mountains, still wind advisories over the next few hours. mix of clouds. looks like the sun will come out in the afternoon will be

>> convicting of blocking and shutting down abortion clinics, some of whom or which currently serving federal sentences in san francisco. lindsey ford kron. 4 news. >> sheriff's deputies arrested a man accused of attempting to make pipe bombs inside a home in napa. officials found materials intended to make the explosives inside a house on comb street earlier this month. justin fischer, the man accused of trying to make the bombs was booked into jail for having them in his possession. deputies also found drugs in his car. he is being held on a 1 million dollar bail. if convicted, he could face multiple years in prison. in san francisco. authorities are investigating a deadly 7 car crash that occurred last sunday night in the soma district. police arrested 66 year-old john ling john charging him with vehicular manslaughter and reckless driving. jean has since been released from jail. now the crash involved a speeding

tesla in a driverless waymo robotaxi. it killed 27 year-old the kayla roman now co and a dog is doc with 2 others critically injured. spoke with city leaders that say that they are moving forward with plans to install speed cameras and pedestrian safety measures to prevent fear for you future accidents. it is unclear when these cameras could be installed. but city officials say that they will work to ensure the safety of the community. and continuing coverage this morning on the federal indictment of oakland, mayor sheng thao. the justice department is charging her with 6 counts of conspiracy, bribery, mail, fraud, and wire fraud or partner andrea jones as well as businessmen. david

and andy duong are also facing charges. how has since pleaded not guilty to all counts. if convicted, she could face either decades in prison supervisor leaser more than a million dollars in fines. our legal analysts, michael cardoza, spoke with us talking about all of this. >> bringing in a like this again, somebody so famous, you've ruined their lives basically just by bringing it because even if a guest this mister not guilty, you know, everybody's going to say, well, what you get off of a technicality. >> the defendants are due to return to federal court and early february. oakland unified school district could run out of money by next school year. the alameda county office of education says the county review shows years. the district kicking budget problems down the road, leaving it strapped financially. kron four's. philippe djegal has a closer look at what could happen if

the district's board of directors don't act quickly. >> in a letter from alameda county superintendent of schools, alice castro sent tuesday to the oakland unified school district superintendent and its board. castro says the oakland unified school district is operating on an unsustainable budget stating the school district's budget deficit is projected to reach 152 million dollars this year. and without implementing the budget solutions approved by the board in december, the district could run out of cash by more than 30 million dollars in november. last month, the school district filed a negative certification to the office of education. in castro's letter, she agreed with the district self-assessment saying, quote, without significant intervention, the district is projected to run out of cash during the 2025. 26 school year leading to significant destabilization for students and staff necessitating another bankruptcy loan from the state and forfeiting local

decision making authority the office of education points to the district's increasing deficits resulting from approving employee pay increases without approving reductions to pay for the raises. that combined with years of the board, differing big decisions, changing plans or delaying their implementation has led the school district to the difficult position it is in right now in response, castro has appointed a fiscal advisor to help the school district rectify its budget woes. the last usd received a negative certification was just before it went into receivership in 2003 back then the state of california took control over district business and resulted in the district taking out 100 million dollar loan which the district says has taken 21 years to pay off in full plus 20 million dollars in interest. currently the county has oversight over the district's budget with power to override board decisions.

now county superintendent castro says usd will be the only state school district to have both the fiscal trustee and fiscal advisor. the adviser is slated to help the board through june and in the coming weeks, help balance the 2025. 2026 budget. the board has considered merging 10 schools that share campuses. the school district says the move would save millions of dollars. but the board still has not voted on the option by the end of next month. castro says the board needs to make hard decisions on reducing personnel for the upcoming school year. in the letter, castro continues to say, quote, if the board does not make decisions now, it will rapidly lose the ability to make them at all. she says the district operates too many schools for the number of students enrolled and operates too many and or enrolled schools. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> definitely unsettling that

what you're telling and the family saying that we're going to have transparency would have one more meeting. those going to be a conversation and it definitely didn't. it's not the definition of transparency. the vallejo ptsa board president frustrated with the district just days after community town hall. >> the blair city unified school district has narrowed down its choices for possible school closures and consolidations. the superintendent says it needs to cut about 8 million dollars from its budget. currently, there are 19 schools serving about 9,000 students. the board will now vote on one of 3 options under the first option. mare island, health and fitness academy will close and charter school will move to the mare island campus under the second option. loma vista, environmental science academy would be converted to add t k through 5th grade school in the 6th and 8th graders had moved to widen man leadership academy now under

the 3rd option, the district with completely close the loma vista, environmental science academy. ptsa president evo kuhn says that thursday shortlist comes as a complete surprise turn families and mare island have many questions regarding the possible consolidation. >> i'm not only speaking from my child like that psp parent. you know, i'm going for the whole community. all the kids. and what about the teachers, the teachers that they grew up with, but nobody gave us any answers as to staff. we came and faculty site even class sizes of. you're going to bring in another 30400. you're packing the island to school with 700 plus students. like, what are your racial is looking like? >> the options will be voted on at the next board meeting on february 19th, whatever is decided will go into effect next school year. well, still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news. this on wheels meddling

traumatize. we don't really hear about much gun violence and yet second happened. every was really scared. the shooting happened on tuesday just after 7 in the evening at this express gas station on tennessee avenue. you can see the suspected shooter here standing next to their car and the next clip you see them shoot from the driver's side window towards this man in a blue hoodie. the white truck here caught in the crossfire and inside were 2 cal maritime students you see here running for safety, blood running down their clothes from the gunshot wounds. a gofundme for one of the victims says the student was put in a medically induced coma after being shot in the face. the road to recovery will be long. the other student shot was released from the hospital. the president of the university put out a statement the next day saying, quote, given this unprovoked criminal attack on our colleagues. i remind everyone to exercise the utmost caution and always maintain situational awareness of what is going on around you. will the shooting happened just about 3 miles away from the university. many students we spoke to on saturday. tell us that they're fearful of the

the hughes fire burning near castic lake has burned over 10,000 acres and is 90% contained and furniture a county. the laguna fire has burned nearly 100 acres and it is 98% contained. the threat of rain this weekend is raising some concerns. a recent burn zones. residents are being urged to prepare for the possibility of mudslides and even flooding. firefighters and the national guard are doing their part to help prepare residents. >> we're trying to make sure that anything that might be toxic or any large debris here. fast-moving water gets trapped here for so that the communities downstream from here are affected which would lead to flooding and possibly those committees, which is the last thing they want after a big fire up into the community. >> and we will continue to keep a close eye on all of those fires. wildfire victims are in critical need of clothing and everyday household items. volunteers at the national council of jewish women in los angeles spent the day sorting items before donating them to victims. volunteer said the donations

could face either decades in prison, supervised release or more than a million dollars in fines or legal. analysts. michael cardoza has more. >> bringing in a like this again, somebody so famous, you've ruined their lives basically just by bringing it because even if the guest this messed are not guilty, you know, everybody's going to say, well, what you get off of a technicality. >> the defendants are due to return to federal court in early february. well, klein unified school district could run out of money by next school year. the alameda county office of education says the county review shows years of the district kicking budget problems down the road, leaving it now strapped financially kron four's. philippe djegal has a closer look at what could happen if the district's board of directors don't act quickly. >> in a letter from alameda county superintendent of schools, alice castro sent tuesday to the oakland unified school district superintendent

and its board. castro says the oakland unified school district is operating on an unsustainable budget stating the school district's budget deficit is projected to reach 152 million dollars this year and without implementing the budget solutions approved by the board in december, the district could run out of cash by more than 30 million dollars in november. last month, the school district filed a negative certification to the office of education. in castro's letter, she agreed with the district self-assessment saying, quote, without significant intervention, the district is projected to run out of cash during the 2025. 26 school year leading to significant destabilization for students and staff necessitating another bankruptcy loan from the state and forfeiting local decision making authority the office of education points to the district's increasing deficits resulting from approving employee pay increases without approving reductions to pay for the

raises. that combined with years of the board, differing big decisions, changing plans or delaying their implementation has led the school district to the difficult position it is in right now in response, castro has appointed a fiscal advisor to help the school district rectify its budget woes. the last usd received a negative certification was just before it went into receivership in 2003 back then the state of california took control over district business and resulted in the district taking out 100 million dollar loan which the district says has taken 21 years to pay off in full plus 20 million dollars in interest. currently the county has oversight over the district's budget with power to override board decisions. now county superintendent castro says usd will be the only state school district to have both the fiscal trustee and fiscal advisor. the

adviser is slated to help the board through june and in the coming weeks, help balance the 2025. 2026 budget. the board has considered merging 10 schools that share campuses. the school district says the move would save millions of dollars. but the board still has not voted on the option by the end of next month. castro says the board needs to make hard decisions on reducing personnel for the upcoming school year. in the letter, castro continues to say, quote, if the board does not make decisions now, it will rapidly lose the ability to make them at all. she says the district operates too many schools for the number of students enrolled and operates too many and or enrolled schools. philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. >> definitely unsettling that what you're telling and the family saying that we're going to have transparency would have one meeting. those going to be a conversation and it definitely didn't. it's not the definition of transparency.

>> the vallejo ptsa board president frustrated with the district just days after community town hall. the vallejo city unified school district has narrowed down its choices for possible school closures and consolidations. the superintendent says it needs to cut about 8 million dollars from its budget. currently, there are 19 schools serving about 9,000 students. the board will now vote on one of 3 options under the first option. mare island health and fitness academy will close in vallejo charter school will move to the mare island campus under the second option. loma vista, environmental science academy would be converted into a tk through 5th grade school in 8th move to slow. know why men leadership academy and under the 3rd option, the districtm would completely closed aloma just environmental science academy ptsa president eva kuhn says that thursday's shortlists comes a surprise to

all have a full forecast. when i come back. back to you, carol. thank you for much. >> young man is fighting for his life after a shootout at a valero gas station to east bay college students were injured. the shooting draws increased attention to crime in that city. kron four's jack moment explains. >> caldera times. campus students are on edge after 2 of their own were shot traumatize. we don't really hear about much gun violence. and yet second happened. every was really scared. the shooting happened on tuesday just after 7 in the evening at this express gas station on tennessee avenue. you can see the suspected shooter here standing next to their car and the next clip you see them shoot from the driver's side window towards this man in a blue hoodie. the white truck here caught in the crossfire and inside were 2 cal maritime students you see here running for safety, blood running down their clothes from the gunshot wounds. a gofundme for one of the victims says the student was put in a medically induced coma after being shot in the face. the road to recovery

will be long. the other student shot was released from the hospital. the president of the university put out a statement the next day saying, quote, given this unprovoked criminal attack on our colleagues. i remind everyone to exercise the utmost caution and always maintain situational awareness of what is going on around you. will the shooting happened just about 3 miles away from the university. many students we spoke to on saturday. tell us that they're fearful of the crime just about every time they have to leave campus kind of like going in a resort, a 3rd world country. >> just don't leave it. yeah. that's how these freshman maritime students who are from southern california described the lay, whoa. >> they say they've seen crime just about weekly and say they want to see more police. we have more cops on campus that of the city. so, yeah, there's very little policing around last year, kron 4 reported the vallejo police department 31 officers when they're supposed to have over 100 rose looking over our shoulder like we know the threat that's out there. but despite the fear, the students are happy for the community support. everyone's reposting ensuring go fund me

so entire school has their back. yeah. the schools also helping out telling us to maintain situational awareness and all that a suspect is under arrest at vallejo. police say they're still investigating the shooting. reporting in vallejo, jack molmud kron. 4 news. >> also in the east bay, richmond's mayor and city manager released a joint statement saturday pledging to stand by the city's majority latino population and federal immigration policies. not according to the 2023 census. the community has a population estimated about 114,000 people with nearly 47% hispano or latino officials emphasize the richmond police to not inquire about immigration status and added that they are committed to upholding the sanctuary cities policy. now, despite pressure from the trump administration officials and other bay area cities, we're also committing to protecting immigrants, including those without legal status. alameda county officials recently held a meeting in oakland enforcing

those protections for and talking about the risk of deportation for people. >> i have for president president david haubert to put forward a committee and ad hoc committee that will protect our alameda county communities. i am very, very excited that we're moving forward in that regard. i hope that you will common expressed support for that committee so that we can do the proactive work to protect to support and lift up our communities who might be fearful during this time. >> county officials have launched a website to provide resources for the community. provides a list of legal resources and has information on future workshops aimed at educating the documented. the hotline to report and answer questions is expected to be ready and online by february, 17th. meanwhile, in san francisco kron four's dan kerman spoke with families about how the recent changes to immigration policies in

>> welcome back. a live look over the san francisco bay and we're starting to see the sun come out. we're off to a chilly start. we have some clouds out there, a little breeze as well. welcome back here is that mount tam view. we have sunshine, breezy conditions. let's take a look at the temperatures out the door. upper 40's. now 51 in santa rosa. so we're warming up from the 30's. now, let's talk about the rain activity. not so much for us. maybe just some lingering sprinkles, but not really a whole lot. a lot of activities trending south now. so we're seeing some rain showers over los angeles and some mountain snow. the sierra got some snow as well. and that should be the case your sunday night tonight. and then we dry out on monday. there are concerns about floods, flooding, debris flow because of the burn scar. so there is a flood watch los angeles area today about the wind advisory just dropped in the last few minutes. but we are still

breezy north bay hills will be breezy today anywhere between 15 to 25 miles per hour, depending where you are. the winds ease by dinner. time with veto that breezy conditions really just staying in the hills. keep a lookout for some chilly temperatures. we've been experiencing chilly mornings the past couple of weeks, but now we have a freeze watch overnight monday through wednesday so we could see some temperatures dipped down to the upper 20's. we did see that in places like napa of daytime highs today. we're talking some upper 50's and low 60's. so still cooler cooler. you know, we were pretty mild this past week and we could see a little bit of some warmer temperatures. temperatures bumping up early this week, but we will continue to wake up to those morning temperatures and take a look at what is popping up on the seven-day. another chance of rain. maybe this will be more measurable but it does look like the storm door is reopening for february. back to teresa. thank you very much. well, we're nearly at the end of january 2025. and some of you may have.

>> i know fallen off your new year's fitness resolution. but joining us right now in the studio this morning, its fitness instructor, ashley zone. is that correct? so ashley settlement and then she is here with family and the 2 of them are extraordinary and there are going to be showing us some benefits of something called stacking. i worked out for a long time. what stacking? we're talking about how to make your workout sustainable. and one way to do that is make sure >> being efficient with with your choices and actions are sent binding move. so stacking benefits, okay. attacking types like mobility and strength at the same time, balance and bone density at the same time. so working very important together to all. yes, yeah. exactly. exactly. okay. so, yeah. so what one thing i want to mention is that. another way to say sustainable in your workout is make sure you're starting out with something that is not too huge of a goal. i think a lot of times people failed their

new year's resolution. i'm gonna too much. all right. start simple. and all the other thingsmake sure you're trying to get fast progress you might notice and was wearing these blood flow restriction bans. i have all my clients use those these days because it really does accelerate your progress. short workout. bigger result. regardless, though, this these exercises can be used with or without those bands. but those are their blend pressure. yeah, their blood flow restriction down your blood flow, which increases metabolites in your blood get a big metabolic response. your body is pretty cool. it's great for people 50 and up. that's really helps with hormones. it's pretty interesting, actually. >> what he's feeling good fast mean to you. seeing that on map? montrezl? yeah. yeah. that is. i mean, that is i think the key to some was sticking with is feeling a change, feeling progress, whether that's having more energy, you're feeling stronger or feeling or >> your body's changing in the way you want to change. so so

doing things that aee going to have make that happen for i know that it's very challenging to stay motivated. i mean, it's easy to fall through the cracks of like, >> you know, go to the grocery store and do all of that. the staff doubt that we have to do so. how do we stay on target about, you know, our fitness goals. i mean, i know health is 12 wealth is health, that kind of stuff. so how people stay on track? i think starting with something that's realistic. so short and construir work into your day that that's a that's a. >> you know, common want have an accountability, buddy. you know, whether going to work out with i mean, i'm a trainer. so people pay me to be their accountability, buddy. you can do with a friend, a spouse, you know, just someone that's going either you work out together. you have a little accountability with each other because it's easy to push off. if nobody told you count exact the exact i know if you work out in the morning is better. i've read statistically because then you kind of get it done for the day. but that

doesn't always work for every block. yeah, i mean, i think it really depends on your personal preference. i think for a lot of people. >> their day doesn't get high, you know, their biggest hijack. so in the morning they can get in first. but >> if you're not a morning person, and, you know, i think the key is trying similar time each day. if you're if it's bouncing around all in place, it's more likely to get skip try to get in a routine. what are some of your favorite exercises? so i'm going to show a few exercises. what i wanted to focus on today. i mean, i was there so many actually is out there. but we do a lot of sitting these days in our world. and so what happens? we sit a lot as we get tight in the farmer hips and we kind of weak in the back side of our glutes, her hamstring the hips hurt all the time. sitting in sunshine. i driving from. yeah. and so when you're starting access program, if you've been sitting a lot and then you try to go move, you might not be firing the right muscles. you might not be moving properly. so we want to make sure you're moving properly. so the actions i want to show today is just a nice little primer of getting moving and getting those tips activated and a

the alameda county office of education says the county review shows years of the distric kicking budget problems down the road, leaving at strapped financially kron four's. philippe djegal has a closer look at what could happen if the district's board of directors don't act quickly. >> in a letter from alameda county superintendent of schools, alice castro sent tuesday to the oakland unified school district superintendent and its board. castro says the oakland unified school district is operating on an unsustainable budget stating the school district's budget deficit is projected to reach 152 million dollars this year and without implementing the budget solutions approved by the board in december, the district could run out of cash by more than 30 million dollars in november. last month, the school district filed a negative certification to the office of education. in castro's letter, she agreed with the district self-assessment saying, quote, without significant

intervention, the district is projected to run out of cash during the 2025. 26 school year leading to significant destabilization for students and staff necessity to another bankruptcy loan from the state and forfeiting local decision making authority the office of education points to the district's increasing deficits resulting from approving employee pay increases without approving reductions to pay for the raises. that combined with years of the board, differing big decisions, changing plans or delaying their implementation has led the school district to the difficult position it is in right now in response, castro has appointed a fiscal advisor to help the school district rectify its budget woes. the last usd received a negative certification was just before it went into receivership in 2003 back then the state of california took control over district business and resulted in the district taking out 100 million dollar loan which

the district says has taken 21 years to pay off in full plus 20 million dollars in interest. currently the county has oversight over the district's budget with power to override board decisions. now county superintendent castro says usd will be the only state school district to have both the fiscal trustee and fiscal advisor. the adviser is slated to help the board through june and in the coming weeks, help balance the 2025. 2026 budget. the board has considered merging 10 schools that share campuses. the school district says the move would save millions of dollars. but the board still has not voted on the option by the end of next month. castro says the board needs to make hard decisions on reducing personnel for the upcoming school year. in the letter, castro continues to say, quote, if the board does not make decisions now, it will rapidly lose the ability to make them at all. she says the
