take a look at where current temperatures are at right now. morgan hill's at freezing at 30 to powwow to you're below freezing at 31. same in livermore and dublin down to 30 degrees. each. oakland, 38 right now. and even san francisco on the cusp of some upper 30's at the moment. santa rosa at 39. so definitely a very, very cold start and no surprise that we do have a slew of advisories, including frost advisories for most of the bay area. everyone except for the immediate coastline. and for san jose. a freeze warning in effect right now. we have even colder mornings just around the corner later this week. so this definitely one of those january forecast to be bundled up for during your morning hours. at least this afternoon is going to get relatively mild with some comfortably low 60's for your daytime highs. think of what yesterday felt like and will be pretty much the same towards the latter half of the day.

>> ok, what you get that car warmed up. you'll be fine to step in and they are going to be a little cold. 7 minutes upget you across the bay bridge right now than the same to get you cross. the richmond center fell. >> all right, john, thank you for that. president trump's plans of mass deportation are now underway. size agents reported least 1400 arrests remain around the country with many more expected to come this morning. we're learning more about targeted operations under way in the bay area. san jose mayor matt mahan office telling kron 4 ice agents were in the city on sunday and says he hopes ice is targeting criminals and not law-abiding residents. this morning. we're in here from those directly affected legal challenges, emergent and how local operations play a part in the national immigration debate. while no arrests of undocumented people were published out of san jose. the migrant community there says they are scared the future forsman proffers. that moment has that story.

>> this is the target parking lot east side. san jose where local organizations tell us they spotted several ice agents loading up one of their trucks. they tell us it's the first time in many years they've seen immigration officials in this part of san jose, which does have a large number of migrant families. >> so once the agent confirmed that they were not san jose police, i asked are you ice and they not it. >> so can a mom. tanya works with the rapid response hotline of santa clara county. and since president trump took office last week, her office has gotten hundreds of calls mostly rumors. but on sunday it was the real thing. immigration officers in east side, san jose. this video taken at the target parking lot of story and cake. it's only been a week. >> but this is the first time we've had verified confirmed activity in ice. officials did not reply to kron four's request for comment. so we don't know if they're arrested anyone. but montano says she thinks it was targeting just one or 2 people. they were heading back to their car, some the exit of the house and at they said it's not him and

they said no. at san jose. mayor matt mahan says san jose police were aware that ice was in town and sent a statement to kron. 4 news saying in part, i sincerely hope ice remains focused on enforcement actions related to violent and serious criminals harming our city, not neighbors who are contributing and law abiding members of our community. what >> is your take on? i guess president trump saying we're going after the criminals first, then we'll see where we go from their colleagues in the bay area. the san francisco now hear and, you know, south bay, what i'm hearing is that >> there are people of interest to our in one of those categories. i mentioned either deportation orders that immigration attorney gabriel espinosa ramos. he says, well, criminals may be the target. >> the migrant community at large has every right to be on unfortunately, government agents sometimes do not follow protocol. and in those prophecies, that is when. >> violations happened, where try to compete, get people to

here. in the sense is a jack moment kron, 4 news. the trump administration, you have officials across the bay area that are committed to protecting immigrants, including those without legal status. alameda county officials recently held a meeting in oakland. now to a new effort to uphold protections for those who are at risk of deportation. county officials have lost a website provide resources for the community. it provides a list of legal resources. they've got information on future workshops aimed at educating the undocumented hotline to report an answer questions is expected to be ready by february 17th. also in the east bay, richmond's mayor and city manager released a joint statement saturday pledging to stand by the city's majority latino population amid the federal immigration policy changes according to the census, the community and the population has estimated around 140,000 people with nearly 47% being hispanic or latino officials emphasize

richmond, police did not inquire about immigration status that they're committed to upholding our sanctuary city policies. fire crews, los angeles county are working to make progress. a wildfire containment there. the palisades fire burning more than 23,000 acres. its reach 90% containment. the fire burning more than 14,000 acres. that's nearly 100% contained these 5, bernie right near castaic lake has burned more than 10,000 acres. that's 95% contained. and with the recent storm systems in los angeles county officials are warning about the possibility of fast-moving mud and debris flowing telling people to stay alert. firefighters in the national guard are doing their part to help prepare residents. the chatter move debris in the burn zones. the storm is expected to stick around this morning. and san francisco firefighters working late sunday night on a blaze in a top floor apartment in the tenderloin. the fire, which was al compas children's center was a single unit. no

body was found in the unit and they're still looking into the cause. and that east bay, the city of alameda fire department, responded to a fire right near challenger field 7 around 05:00pm on sunday. firefighters extinguished the encampment fire. they contain that spread to the side of the road. no injuries were reported and they are still investigating that fire. well, a woman is dead after she was trapped under a car following a crash in berkeley. police say 7 run at the intersection of 8 in california just before one sunday afternoon. fire crews and to lift up the car to get her out from under the car. she was taken to the hospital where later died. police have not made any arrests, but it's still unclear what caused that crash. police continue to crack down on reckless driving after they say a sideshow drew about 200 car saturday night. chp tracking down some of the people participating only for them. we're told, and placed on a 30 day hold at an impound

lot. cars are impounded for that amount of time. could face a total of over $2000 in fees. police say 300 pedestrians. it ended. 2 of the people involved were arrested. 13 others were cited. a school in vallejo forced to shut down after a copper theft cuts, all electricity inside of the building. school officials say it happened sometime between friday and early saturday. this is at weidman leadership academy staff realized power was out moments before land to host basketball competition saturday. in a letter to families, school officials say appears it likely take a week leaving students out of class during that time. in a statement to kron 4, the vallejo city unified school district superintendent is saying, quote, we're deeply saddened and we're frustrated that this has happened again to one of our schools. these incidents really disrupt learning and nightly impact, our families and the entire school community adding the district is working to resolve the issues quickly as possible. san francisco

transit officials say they're facing major budget shortfalls. 78 is inviting the public to meeting this week to talk about ways to raise more money. this comes as the transit agency says there staring down a potential 320 million dollar budget gap. officials cite a decline in funding high inflation reasons for that deficit. the agency is warning of potential cuts to muni and other services. the public discussion is this friday, january 31st. you can either attend in person or online. artists, festival's organizers and non profits trying to make arts part of their programs. you can apply for a one-time grant to support their work and streigthen our culture in berkeley. these grants lot programs to fund new individual works events and create new park programs for the arts applicants for each category. you can attend separately. design webinars to learn about guidelines, eligibility and how to apply the rent ranges from $5,000 to

know today. >> san jose councilmember san jose community members. are there going to hold an international holocaust remembrance day commemoration? it's an honor. the memory of those who died during the holocaust and reflect on the importance of standing against hatred and bigotry in all forms. everybody is encouraged to attend, however, is a report shows at san jose's economic growth feeling in the wake of the pandemic. according to the milken ranked the city as 108 out of 200 large metro areas nationally, its best-performing cities report in 2020 for the city was ranked. 44 10 years ago was ranked number one. in the bay area. san francisco is getting ready to welcome a huge crowd. well, new year starts this week. more than million visitors expected to the 10 the 3rd year in a row. portsmouth square offers free parking for the first 2 hours during the celebrations. >> how the lawyers and the house in there basketball academy coast guard clinic and picnic today. that event is part of the warriors hoops for troops program that honors our

military service. now this is going to be at coast guard island, alameda at 11 o'clock this morning. >> and he is cold out there this morning. here's your look outside from mount tam skies are clear, but let's get a look at those temperatures. that's what we're really bracing for as you're stepping out there, concord at 35 livermore below freezing at 30 degrees, half moon bay and santa rosa. also in the 30's, same in oakland at 38 as barely hanging on to the low 40's this morning. so very cold start make sure you're bundled up for it. we do have frost advisories and for the south bay. a freeze warning in effect through 09:00am this morning and plenty more of these later on this week. we have more cold mornings as we do work our way through the latter part of the week, too. the sierra saw a little bit of snowfall over the weekend. we still do have winter weather advisories. yosemite southward, although i-80 and highway 50 now free of those

advisories, roadways are plowed and cleared. but we did see some needed snow and still falling for southern areas. as you can see, the southern sierra down towards southern california in the midst of upper elevations, snow and lower elevation rain fall. in fact, the grapevine does have snow on it this morning. so definitely an active day still for southern california neighbors we've long dried out for the bay area and are dry trend will continue. that is until thursday night. thursday night is when the storm door reopens and this is the total opposite of that last system. much north coast system right here. that means our northern california neighbors are northern bay area. neighbors are the ones that are going to see the most rainfall out of it, especially into friday, saturday and sunday. how much rain are we looking let's get a look at those rainfall totals as we make our way into the weekend and early next week, as you can see, santa rosa will be looking at well over an inch of rainfall. well, areas like sf and oakland towards half an inch of rain from the series of

systems that kicks off late thursday leading into the start of next week. so nice to be seeing. the storms are open. definitely need that rain 50's for your highs in the city today as well as out along the coastline. most of us today will barely creep up into the low 60's, though. and that will be the case for spots like carlos, redwood city in mountain view, as well as in the south bay with san jose and santa clara at 63 degrees east bay. temperatures also back into the low 60's with hayward right at 60 degrees. oakland right there, too. richmond right at 62 for your high north bay. our warmest spots today, some mid 60's in areas like napa and santa rosa, looking ahead to tomorrow's temperatures will be right around the same as today's. it's a holding pattern of sunshine through thursday. then thursday night, a chance of showers that continues into the weekend. let's get a look at the roads. 8 minutes right now to make your crossing. love to see easy commute so far. hopefully we can keep it around for a

little bit longer. richmond center fell also on the at 7 minutes rolling at the limit. all right, john, thank for that. sheriff deputies arrested a man accused of attempted to make pipe bombs inside of a home. this happened in napa. >> officials found materials intended to make explosives inside a house on coal street earlier this month. justin fischer, the man accused of trying to make the boss is booked into jail for having them in his possession. deputies also found drugs in his car. he's now being held on a 1 million dollar bill. if convicted, he could face multiple years in jail. and the east bay, a canadian man is sentenced to 2 years in prison after he sexually extorting a minor in contra costa county. the da's office identified the man as 25 year-old nicholas fahy. now you may contact with the victim on social media back in 2019, fay requested sexually explicit images of victim. victim complied ethan threatened to release the images. les more were sent. canadian police arrested fahy at his home back in 2021. and mateo county man is in jail

this morning accused of burglarizing same home twice in 2 days. deputies responded to a burglary report at a home on long ridge road. deputies are out of the house and eventually got the suspect to leave. suspect was identified as juan montoya, according deputies, montoya stole 50 items roughly 3 grand deputies say montoya was involved in a separate burglary. it happened at the same home. thousands of demonstrators covering san francisco center civic plaza for the 21st annual march for life. this comes after president donald trump vowed to support anti-abortion efforts in his second term. he recently and forced a federal amendment that restricts government funding for most abortions. anti-abortion advocates gave testimonies advocating for pro life while those pro-choice held their own demonstration right across the street. >> i know i i great me and news. he's a creative of as

>> well, in the south bay, san jose police found several unregistered guns during a traffic stop. this happened saturday night live in the area. tele road and one on one. the suspect's van of a car ran away on foot. police found the unregistered guns in a ghost gun inside the car. more police showed up the suspect trying leave in a separate car. they are able to arrest a suspect without incident. police arrested 2

men accused of stealing from a coma shopping center. was it a suspect stole nearly $4,000 worth of items from a business in the metro mall. police spotted them running away from the store o% for boulevard and right into a nearby cemetery. they were eventually caught booked into jail for grand theft. and pleasanton up for the miners are briefly in police custody, accused of stealing a car on saturday. officers say this happened around 3.30, on ha pr road after police found the suspect's they found evidence related to another theft in pleasanton. the group was cited and released to their parents and a fairfield authorities seize more than 2000 plants. this is from 3 illegal grow houses. this happened on january 9th warrants were served for houses right near south river. police say fairfield has a problem with illegal gross houses citing 11 that have been shut down in the city in the past 6 months. still ahead, the kron morning news east bay residents are hearing

for for you, rural areas in the east bay. this is your view in san francisco. crystal clear skies, very calm winds. all that adds up to what can be a cold morning. and this morning is living up to that morgan hill. you're at 32 dublin at 29 right now. livermore at 30 degrees, palo alto, sitting at freezing, even oakland and berkeley down in the 30's right now. santa rosa at 39 degrees. so very, very chilly. maybe throw on a couple of extra layers to keep yourself cozy. most of us across the bay area are in frost advisories, including all the bayshore, the east bay in the north bay and a freeze warning in effect for san jose and the rest of the santa clara valley up through 09:00am. this morning. now even though it is a cold start, we do tap into a nice and mild afternoon yesterday was comfortably cool there towards the finish the day and today is going to be much the same. nice, sunny and dry.

looking at getting rid of the 12 sports programs, getting rid of dozens of faculty members as well as eliminating certain. i kinda, big majors to close that budget gap. this caught people by surprise, especially the student athletes and coaches. sue. they claim all this time thought the university was doing well. they're about 9500 students at this school and for quite sometime, there was a waiting list to get to the school imply that it was thriving. now, all of a sudden they hear that the university is not doing well and they're blaming the board of trustees for not managing the money. well, and that's why they're considering all options, including filing a civil rights violations against sonoma state university and the board of trustees. nothing is done yet, but they could do it as early as this morning. back to all right. well, thank you for that. today is international holocaust remembrance day marking 80 years since the liberation of auschwitz concentration camp.

>> across the bay, many people of holland, the moratorium fence to pay tribute to the 6 million jewish victims of the holocaust congress hold. a is live in san francisco with more on that. joey? >> well, good morning rated. yeah, congregations at synagogues all over the bay area today will pause to reflect on the 6 million jews killed during the holocaust and all these generations later, anti-semitism is still a constant threat. so today local leaders will be gathering as they do each and every year ro commemorate those lives lost. survivors will share their powerful stories to offer their perspectives to make sure this dark period in history is never forgotten and hoping to prevent it from happening again. important conversations will be had to fight hatred and discrimination. memorial services will be held. candles will be lit to force out darkness with light holocaust survivor will be among the

speakers at today's remembrance in san jose city hall. that's coming up at 3.30, this afternoon. and other commemoration events will also be happening both this morning and this evening in san francisco. but over security concerns, the locations are being held under wraps so far. we'll have more on that coming up later. and coming up here at 6.30, we'll be talking to a san francisco rabbi on the importance of keeping all of this. these memories alive, the tough lessons that will be taught later on today. back to you. all right, ali, thank you for that report. >> now 5.33. into vallejo college students caught in the crossfire at a gas station shooting. one of the young man fighting for his life. the shooting draws increase attention to the crime in a city. grover's jack moment has that story. >> caldera times, campus itudents are on edge after 2 of their own were shot traumatize. we don't really hear about much gun violence and yet second happened. every was really scared. the shooting happened on tuesday

just after 7 in the evening at this express gas station on tennessee avenue. you can see the suspected shooter here standing next to their car and the next clip you see them shoot from the driver's side window towards this man in a blue hoodie. the white truck here caught in the crossfire and inside were 2 cal maritime students you see here running for safety, running down their clothes from the gunshot wounds. a gofundme for one of the victims says the student was put in a medically induced coma after being shot in the face. the road to recovery will be long. the other student shot was released from the hospital. the president of the university put out a statement the next day saying, quote, given this unprovoked criminal attack on our colleagues. i remind everyone to exercise the utmost caution and always maintain situational awareness of what is going on around you. will the shooting happened just about 3 miles away from the university. many students we spoke to on saturday. tell us that they're fearful of the crime just about every time they have to leave campus kind of like going in a resort, a 3rd world country.

>> just don't leave it. yeah. that's how these freshman maritime students who are from southern california described the lay, whoa. >> they say they've seen crime just about weekly and say they want to see more police. we have more cops on campus that in the city. so, yeah, there's very little policing around last year, kron 4 reported the vallejo police department 31 officers when they're supposed to have over 100 rose looking over our shoulder like we know the threat that's out there. but despite the fear, the students are happy for the community support. everyone's reposting ensuring go fund me so the entire school has their back. yeah. the schools also helping out telling us to maintain situational awareness and all that a suspect is under arrest at vallejo. police say they're still investigating the shooting. reporting in vallejo jacmel but kron 4 news. >> well, a pedestrian was hit and killed vallejo this weekend marking the first traffic fatity 2025 police sa thihappened saturday night in the area of sonoma boulevard in limon street. found a man lying ithe road despite efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead. the driver remained at

the scene is cooperate with the investigation. alameda county supervisors are now zeroing in on a choice for a new district attorney. as we get a community forum was held residents could get to know the candidates vying for the role and address some of their concerns. congress. lindsey ford reports following last year's successful recall of pamela price. the alameda county board of supervisors has narrowed the field of candidates for the job to 7 people saturday at lakeshore avenue baptist church. >> 3 of the candidates spoke to residents about the change they hope to bring to the role love for you all to name 3 specifically advocate to strengthen and expand the positive impact of the county's. will have court system. attendees got to hear directly from latricia lewis been us johnson and even shin on their proposals to improve the collaborative court system. while voters do not have a direct say in the selection, residents wanted to know how they could navigate los staffing in the collaborative court. the person who runs my family treatment court.

>> has lived experience. so she's been in recovery for 30 years now. and in each court, we always had at least one person also was in recovery. >> all 3 candidates in size, low funding being an issue to appropriately hire staff patricia lewis, who currently serves as deputy county counsel in alameda county suggest leaving on private and public donors. we have to expand the capacity of the legal staff. there has to be ada and guy sitting in these ports, even shin and alameda city attorney spoke about a lack of funding impacting care courts, a system that helps people with mental health and substance disorders. we have to be innovative and find ways. >> to expand the ability for us to do that. and we probably need to do a holistic review that many collaborative courts that in the system to see whether or not we can make them work better. venus johnson, chief deputy attorney general with the california department of justice. >> laid out a plan to increase
