the upper 30's petaluma below freezing at 31. we do have frost advisories through 09:00am for the vast majority of the bay area and a freeze warning in effect for the santa clara valley until 09:00am as well. this is not the only cold morning we're about to have. we actually do have freeze watches going into effect later this week. so several cold mornings in the works. now temperatures will reach the upper 50's to low 60's later today and are abundant sunshine. all right, john, thank for that. we problems out there on a ridges and highways. >> a bay ridge and an earlier really bad traffic accident right near the fremont street exit that slowed us down for like 3 hours. we're at 24 minutes now. that accident is clear. but again, keep in mind, a lot of your highways are backed up like 80 as a result of that. our san mateo bridge, a lot people took that bridge because of the bay bridge issue. so 36 minutes now under san mateo bridge, which was amber fell about. 25 and that golden gate bridge. 37 of the tolls. 36 minutes.

>> one is the time president trump's plans of mass deportations are underway as ice agents report at least 1400 arrests across the country. many more are expected to happen this morning. we're learning more about targeted operations under way in the bay area. san jose mayor matt mahan's office firms to kron 4 that ice agents. they were in the city on sunday down in san jose. no arrests of any undocumented people were announced. but now the immigrant community there says obviously they're scared about future enforcement. all of properties that moment has that story. this is the target parking lot east side. san jose where local organizations tell us they spotted several ice agents loading up one of their trucks. they tell us it's the first time in many years they've seen immigration officials in this part of san jose, which does have a large number of migrant families. >> so once the agent confirmed that they were not san jose police, i asked are you ice and they not it. >> i'm tanya works with the rapid response hotline of santa clara county. and since

president trump took office last week, her office has gotten hundreds of calls mostly rumors. but on sunday it was the real thing. immigration officers in east side, san jose. this video taken at the target parking lot of story and cake. it's only been a week. >> but this is the first time we've had verified confirmed activity in ice. officials did not reply to kron four's request for comment. so we don't know if they're arrested anyone. but montano says she thinks it was targeting just one or 2 people. they were heading back to their car, some the exit of the house and at they said it's not him and they said no. at san jose mayor matt mahan says san jose police were aware that ice was in town and sent a statement to kron. 4 news saying in part, i sincerely hope ice remains focused on enforcement actions related to violent and serious criminals harming our city, not neighbors who are contributing and law abiding members of our community. what >> is your take on? i guess president trump saying we're going after the criminals

first, then we'll see where we go from their colleagues in the bay area. the san francisco now hear and, you know, south bay, what i'm hearing is that >> there are people of interest who are in one of those categories. i mentioned either deportation orders that immigration attorney gabriel espinosa ramos. he says, well, criminals may be the target. large has every right to be on unfortunately, government agents sometimes do not follow protocol. and in those prophecies, that is when. >> violations happened, where they tried to compete, get people to incriminate themselves. he says that's why ice has been seeing lately and big cities such as san jose and off story and came at love see the tropicana. >> it was empty after ice enforcement make their way. business owners here say the migrant community is vital to their business. i'm tanya says in recent years, colombians and venezuelans have made eastside san jose their home. i think there's a real fear of detention and deportation, but there's also always that

leaving students out of class for that time, the state a crown for the city unified school district superintendent says, quote, we're deeply saddened and frustrated this has happened again to one of our schools. these incidents disrupt learning and negatively impact our families and the entire school community. adding the district is working to try to resolve issues as quickly as possible. >> well, happening right now, coaches and students from sonoma state university, a pretty upset they're preparing a lawsuit to try and block the board of trustees from cutting out the athletic program all together. then we have kron four's will tran. lot of sonoma state university with more on that will. well, they could file that federal lawsuit as early as today. they are not happy. >> with what the university plans to do and that is to get rid of all the sports programs and just like sports, you fight till the very end right into the clock hit 0. and that's exactly with the

student athletes plan to do. they are rallying in court, not the basketball court, but the court of law to try to stop the university from getting rid of not just the athletic program, but also certain majors and laying off dozens of faculty. the news was a bombshell. it was announced last wednesday that the university. was facing a budget deficit. it's a bombshell because everybody and when i say everybody, i mean, the student athletes and the coaches, they thought the school was doing financially well. and then all of a sudden they heard the news that they claim they're not doing financially well and they have to get rid of the sports program and save millions of dollars and also the layoffs and they are not happy with that. they said a lot of people obviously chose the school to play sports and academics and they're getting rid of majors certain majors on top of that. they have filed a complaint with sonoma state university on civil rights violations claiming

that this disproportionately impacts minority student athletes who chose to come here. and without this university, they don't know where else to go. in the meantime, not only that they plan to head federal court, possibly to file a lawsuit with them hoping as soon as a file that lawsuit it will force the university to immediately stop that cut of all the athletic programs we're going to head on to the campus right now. i see a lot of students finally starting to drive there and we will get reaction from them coming up. hopefully at 9 o'clock this morning, guys, back to you. all right. well, thank you for that report. 807, on the clock. let's go to the east bay now where the alameda county supervisors are zeroing in on their choice. >> for the new district attorney. so this weekend, a community forum was held at the lakeshore avenue baptist church so that residents could get to know some of the candidates vying for the role and talk about their concerns. some of the attendees got to directly here from deputy county counsel latricia lewis, alameda city attorney, even

chen and chief deputy attorney general with the california department of justice, the eunice johnson. we talked about their proposals to improve what they say is a collaborative court system. >> we have to expand the capacity of the legal staff. there has to be ada and guy sitting in these ports and we have to be innovative and find ways to expand the ability for us to do that. and we probably need to do a holistic review. >> that many collab records >> that many collab records that in the system t whether or not we can make them work better that the da's office also hire someone specifically that focuses on grant writing and drawing down 2026. well, today is international holocaust remembrance day marking 80

years since the liberation of the auschwitz concentration camp across the bay area. many people are holding commemorative events to pay tribute to the 6 million jewish victims of the holocaust kron four's joey horta live for us in san francisco with more on that. joey. good morning, guys. yeah. so dogs all over the bay area today and here in san francisco will be. >> pausing to remember all those lives lost during the holocaust and still decades later, there is anti-semitism. that is a constant threat. here are the area. well, later on today, again, we'll be hearing from survivors who will share their powerful stories to offer their perspectives to make sure this dark period in history is never forgotten. many in the bay area lost family members like rabbi shimon margolin. he tells us his grandfather was killed in the holocaust and he is worried about history repeating itself. 80 years ago, the jewish community of the world has said never again, something like this

that fire is nearly 100% contained this morning. and then on the far right, the most recent fire, the hughes fire burning near castaic lake. that one has burned about 10,000 acres so far. but containment is now up at 95%. so the worry now with the rains this weekend has been the possibility of debris and mud flows. so fast-moving mud flowing down. he'll never a good sign. so officials are urging residents to be on alert. you can see firefighters here, the national guard, they were all doing their part to help out and remove as much debris as possible and prepping sandbags. that storm is expected to sink. stick around this morning, bringing rain but snow. well, this is actually a live look. >> brought to by the snow in the great in northern la county in kern county. iced always out drive. the grapevine worked in bakersfield. now it's icy conditions. forced officials to close a portion of the 5 freeway through the grapevine overnight. it's unclear at

this time when it's going to be reopened. but again, look at that no cars for a reason. john has an idea when maybe that'll start to melt away and they can reopen the highway judge on. >> another great by morning as we're donner summit or echo pass, these areas are actually pretty dry compared to that southern part of the state which side the rain and of course of the snow too. if we were to see any of that, the bay area, we could have been seeing some snow for a few spots. i mean, livermore, you fell to the upper 20's. you're barely back into the low 30's. now. but a lot of us are icy, icy cold. and with that comes, these frost advisories in the light blue and a freeze warning through 09:00am for the santa clara valley. now we are seeing a winter weather advisory for yosemite southward. so the southern sierra, the big winners as far as snowfall goes, areas like mount whitney, sequoia, national park, really getting some good snowfall. those are the areas that needed it most, too. so that's nice. of

course, the grapevine is still in the mix of snowfall. and then you get the rain snow mix right around that line there. that's where it's particularly dangerous. so that's where those closures are occurring. la getting some of that rainfall over the weekend into this morning. now we do dry out for southern california just as we have already for the northern part of the state. but come thursday night, another storm system starts its impact on us. this one really has more of an impact on the north coast, though. and just like last time, the bay area right on the cusp of rainfall potential again this time around. it'll be the north bay that really see some solid rainfall into the weekend. well, areas further south in bay area, you might actually get quite a lot of sunshine over those same days. so you can see the disparity between that over inch and a half of rainfall into the middle of next week for areas like sonoma county. we're a s jose literally might see just a couple of sprinkles. the northern sierra is going to get the most snow out of this one donner summit

could see upwards of a foot of snowfall. so nice to be seeing that. we certainly need that winter weather to kick back into gear. so 50's at the coast 60's elsewhere in the bay area today and looking ahead, temperatures remain pretty steady tomorrow. after that, though, a subtle cool down into the rest of the week with those showers for the north bay into the weekend. little bit of sunshine areas further south, right? all right, >> i'm down to about 20 minutes the year. remember, we had a major traffic collision on the bay bridge. really slowed us down this morning. and so now we're slowly but surely recovering. okay. 36 minutes, our san mateo bridge, a lot of people take the san mateo bridge because of that accident on the bay bridge or it was over fields about 19 on the kona gate bridge. is at 33 minutes. >> 8.18 is the time. san jose mayor matt mahan now asking local churches to help out when with housing the homeless. so last week the mayor held a panel to talk to

the morning. so far. 34 minutes on the san mateo bridge are rich with summer feels at 16 and the golden gate bridge 30, some of the tolls. 32 minutes. >> it 30's that i'm one of the big stories this half hours. in fact, college students were caught in the crossfire at a gas station shooting. one of these young men they're now fighting for their life shooting, draw increase attention to crime that's taking place cities across france. jacques moment takes a closer look. >> caldera times campus students are on edge after 2 of their own were shot traumatize. we don't really hear about much gun violence. and second happened. every was really scared. the shooting happened on tuesday just after 7 in the evening at this express gas station on tennessee avenue. you can see the suspected shooter here standing next to their car and the next clip you see them shoot from the driver's side window towards this man in a blue hoodie. the white truck here caught in the crossfire and inside were 2 cal maritime students you see here running for safety, blood running down their clothes from the gunshot

wounds. a gofundme for one of the victims says the student was put in a medically induced coma after being shot in the face. the road to recovery will be long. the other student shot was released from the hospital. the president of the university put out a statement the next day saying, quote, given this unprovoked criminal attack on our colleagues. i remind everyone to exercise the utmost caution and always maintain situational awareness of what is going on around you. will the shooting happened just about 3 miles away from the university. many students we spoke to on saturday. tell us that they're fearful of the crime just about every time they have to leave campus kind of like going in a resort, a 3rd world country. >> just don't leave yeah. that's how these freshman maritime students who are from southern california, described the lay, whoa. >> they say they've seen crime just about weekly and say they want to see more police. we have more cops on campus that of the city. so, yeah, there's very little policing around last year, kron 4 reported the vallejo police department have 31 officers when they're supposed to have over 100 rose

looking over our shoulder like we know the threat that's out there. but despite the fear, the students are happy for the community support. everyone's reposting ensuring go fund me so the entire school has their back. yeah. the schools also helping out telling us to maintain situational awareness and all that a suspect is under arrest at vallejo. police say they're still investigating the shooting. reporting in vallejo jack moment. kron 4 news. >> it's a 32 in the north bay. the public defender's office is going to be holding what they're calling a clean slate day to help community members clear their criminal records. that event is designed to help people clean up past felony and misdemeanor arrests and convictions and allow them to fully engage once again with society. the free legal advice will be offered regarding how to file petitions so that you can have your record expunged or reduced or seal them all together. if you interested, you're encouraged to pre-register. they do have walk-ins. they'll accept them. but it'll be first come first serve. the event is set for wednesday from 9 in the morning till 3 in the

afternoon at the county event center on texas street in fairfield, it is free to attend. now to san francisco where 8 people were displaced this morning after an apartment fire broke out the tenderloin. you can see the smoke and the flames coming from that one unit there on the top floor. this was near compass children's center. nobody was inside. so nobody hurt the cause of the fire still under investigation and in the east bay, the alameda fire department responded to this fire on challenger in challenger field. it was right near miles about 5 o'clock or so last night that they came upon it. they were able to quickly put it out. this wasn't a campfire in the kept it there to the side of the road. so it didn't spread. nobody was hurt. they're looking into what caused it. >> well, in the east bay, we have a canadian man is announcing that 2 years in prison after he sexually extorted a minor contra costa county. these office identified the man as 25 year-old nicholas fahy. you may contact with the victim over social media back in 2019, requested sexually explicit images of the victim.

and when the victim complied, threatened to release the images unless more were sent. canadian police arrested fahy at his home back in 2021. and a woman is dead after she was trapped under a car following a crash in berkeley. police say happened right at the intersection of aden, california street for one on sunday. fire crews had to lift the car up to get the victim out from under the car. she was taken to the hospital where she died. police have not made any arrests and it's still unclear what caused that crash. >> with thousands of demonstrators covered san francisco civic center plaza for the 21st annual march for life. this comes after president trump vowed to support anti-abortion efforts in his second term in a recently enforced a federal amendment that restricts government funding for most abortions. anti-abortion advocates gave testimonies advocating for their prolife stance while those on the pro-choice side of the argument help their demonstration across the street. here's a little bit from both.

blocked the flights over concerns of how the trump administration was treating the migrants after threatening 25% tariffs on all colombian incoming goods and visa restrictions. the white house announced columbia what except the flights were saying kind of chaos. democrats like california senator adam schiff criticized the trump administration's efforts on nbc's meet the press. schiff warned the actions would also increase prices when president trump vowed to lower them mass deportations of farm workers in california maybe have to work force are going to drive food prices through the roof. mass deportation of construction workers are going to drive housing prices even more through the roof. but border czar tom homan told abc's this week to expect more actions if in the country got a problem. >> and home in has been in chicago monitoring raids, which he said has resulted in the arrest of people with and without criminal convictions in washington. i'm jessi tenure. well, despite trip pressure from the trump
