at half. moon bay skies are crystal clear. no surprise that there's no fog yet again this morning. but with those cool, calm conditions does come the cold this morning.p san jose, you were in the 30's. now back up at 44 degrees, livermore and dublin. some quick changes for you. you are in the upper 20's livermore. you're now at 37 oakland. you fall into the 30's back at the 46 now. so indeed, we're starting to see some warmth, the biggest change being in fairfield up to the low 50's already this morning. now we are going to see frost advisories and really freeze watches over the next several evenings. so even though we've made it through this morning's advisories, we still have very cold mornings for the rest of the week ahead of us. so just in to sup 8 as you are planning out your week schedule upper 50's to low 60's for your highs today. so not so bad. come the afternoon, right? all right, john, thank you for that. be moving out here, bay bridge commute. 16 minutes. we had a few earlier issues on the bay bridge that is now cleared

unresolved. >> 23 la or san matteo bridge richmond center fell 15 and the golden gate bridge at 36 minutes. >> well, neither one is the time and president trump's plans of mass deportations are underway as we've reported, ice agents apparently in the last a few. well, couple of weeks really have a rest will one week rest up for parts of 1400 people across the country. and many more of these rates are expected in the near future. and this morning, we're learning more about targeted operations under your ride in the bay area settles. i ma hands office confirms to kron 4 ice agents were in the sea on sunday. yeah, no arrests reported. but obviously the migrant community, they're pretty worried and scared about what could happen in the future overstepped moment. ports. this is the target parking lot east side. san jose where local organizations tell us they spotted several ice agents loading up one of their trucks. they tell us it's the first time in many

years they've seen immigration officials in this part of san jose, which does have a large number of migrant families. >> so once the agent confirmed that they were not san jose police, i asked are you ice and they nodded. >> i'm tanya works with the rapid response hotline of santa clara county. and since president trump took office last week, her office has gotten hundreds of calls mostly rumors. but on sunday it was the real thing. immigration officers in east side, san jose. this video taken at the target parking lot of story and cake. it's only been a week. >> but this is the first time we've had verified confirmed activity in ice. officials did not reply to kron four's request for comment. so we don't know if they're arrested anyone, tanya says she thinks it was targeting just one or 2 people. they were heading back to their car. some of the exit of the house and at they said it's not him and they said no. at san jose mayor matt mahan says san jose police were aware that ice was in town and sent a statement to kron. 4 news saying in part, i sincerely hope ice remains

focused on enforcement actions related to violent and serious criminals harming our city, not neighbors who are contributing and law abiding members of our community. what >> is your take on? i guess president trump saying we're going after the criminals first, then we'll see where we go from their colleagues in the bay area. the san francisco now hear and, you know, south bay, what i'm hearing is that >> there are people of interest who are in one of those categories. i mentioned either deportation orders that immigration attorney gabriel espinosa ramos. he says, well, criminals may be target. >> the migrant community at large has every right to be on unfortunately, government agents sometimes do not follow protocol. and in those prophecies, that is when. >> violations happened, where try to compete, get people to incriminate themselves. he says that's why ice has been seeing lately and big cities such as san jose and off story and kick at love see the tropic conduct. >> it was empty after ice enforcement make their way.

business owners here say the migrant community is vital to their business. i'm tanya says in recent years, colombians and venezuelans have made eastside san jose their home. i think there's a real fear of detention and deportation, but there's also always that fear family separation rate of one parent being detained or deported and leaving their kids behind >> but as the day continued, so did the businesses like the ready to? celebrating culture and with family prideful of the migrant and first generation families that make this neighborhood what its latino community, it's always been strong and you know you're getting here, you know, people are trying to hop on whatever going through any time. they just actually try be happy with their loved ones during. there is a jack moment kron. 4 news. >> also in the labor forced to shut down after a copper thief cuts all electricity inside the building. school officials

say this happened sometime between friday and early saturday, solano, white leadership academy staff realized the power was out moments before they hosted a basketball competition in a letter to family school officials say repairs and a likely take a week leaving the students out of class for that time, the state of the crown for the city unified school district superintendent says, quote, we're deeply saddened, frustrated that this is happening again to one of our schools. incidents disrupt, learning and negatively impact our families and the entire school community and in the district is working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible. >> well, 905, is the time and happening right now. coaches and students from sonoma state university are at this moment preparing a lawsuit. they want to block the board of trustees from cutting out the athletics program altogether. exactly. crawford's will trend live sonoma state university with more on that will. and that lawsuit could be filed as early as today in federal court in san francisco.

>> right now, i'm on the softball field and they are still practicing. tried to talk to a couple of student athletes, but they did not want to go on camera. but this affects more this student athletes. it affects certain departments et certain majors could be cut not to mention faculty members could be let go. it was a bombshell of an announcement by the board of trustees and the university last wednesday, they announced that they were facing a 24 million dollar budget deficit. and because of that, they have to make hard decisions and there possibly eliminating the sports program. but in true sports forms, shorts, sports spirit. it is not over until it's over, which is why one they filed a civil rights violations with the board of trustees claiming that there getting rid of the sports program disproportionately affects minority students and they possibly could file with the federal courts saying that this is not in accordance with student athletes and the

university itself that they claim the university mismanaged the money because the announcement that they were hurting financially cut so many people off guard. they thought the university was doing well that there's a waiting list to come to this university all of a sudden they find out that they are facing millions of dollars and budget deficit to the point where even some professors might ultimately be let so we we shall see if they will file that lawsuit in federal court like today. and if that happens, the student athletes hope that he will immediately stop the cuts from happening. in the meantime, they are practicing right now maybe want to go on camera, but they are proceeding as though the sports program is still in place. we shall see. and again, they are fighting until the very last second as they are trained to do on the basketball court, the baseball field and now in the court of law. back to you. all right. well, thank you for that update. >> it is 908, new this morning

in martinez crews contained a gas leak that broke out on arnold drive early monday morning. the leak happened near kiser martinez. that leak started about 04:00am it was taken care of by about 6 o'clock. there are no further details about that leak, but we'll let you know. find out more time now. 9 la alameda county supervisors zeroing in on a choice for a new district so this weekend a community forum was held so that residents could get to know the candidates a little bit better and address some of their concerns. kron four's lindsey ford was there. >> following last year's successful recall of pamela price. the alameda county board of supervisors has narrowed the field of candidates for the job to 7 people saturday at lakeshore avenue baptist church. 3 of the candidates spoke to residents about the change they hope to bring to the role love for all to name 3 specific ways advocate to strengthen and expand the positive impact of the court system. attendees got to hear directly from latricia lewis

been us johnson and even shin on their proposals to improve the collaborative court system. while voters do not have a direct say in the selection, residents wanted to know how they could navigate los staffing in the collaborative court. the person who runs my family treatment court. >> has lived experience. so she's been in recovery for 30 years now. and in each court, we always had at least one person also was in recovery. >> all 3 candidates in size, low funding being an issue to appropriately hire staff patricia lewis, who currently serves as deputy county counsel in alameda county suggest leading on private and public donors. we have to expand the capacity of the legal staff. there has to be a da and guy sitting in these ports, even shin and alameda city attorney spoke about a lack of funding impacting care courts, a system that helps people with mental health and substance disorders. we have to be innovative and find ways. >> to expand the ability for us to do that. and we probably

need to do a holistic review that many collab records that e or not we can make them work better be johnson chief deputy attorney general with the california department of justice. >> laid out a plan to increase funding through grants. i think it's really, really important that the da's office also hire someone specifically that focuses on grant writing and drawing down dollars because i can have a da who's supposed to be staffing. the court was all supposed to be worrying about the grant deadline. carl chan, a principal officer for the acronym safe or save alameda for everybody helped lead to pamela price is a recall. he says the community is looking for a da who has experience working in alameda county's courts. and there's no da. >> we all have to work together and once again, i mean, the county is a wonderful place for many people and want to build a more positive cds county for

a look at the latest technology in local meteorologist can help keep us on right yet. earlier this morning, we had a chance to talk with kron four's gayle ong. she's actually attending the conference he's inside now. but this is what she said this morning. >> good morning. it's chilly out here, but we're having a great time. i'm here at the gondola base at heavenly village this morning. and yes, this is operation sierra storm, an annual gathering where tv meteorologists and scientists that come together and we are discussing everything weather and climate, whether it's a climate change and policies, severe weather and radar use an most importantly, something we are most familiar with here in california wildfires. so there will be discussions on more accurate forecasts and also forecasting the winds during those fires. so a lot to cover here or not that place to do it in here in south lake tahoe, down the mountain and heavenly mountain resort could use a little more snow. we haven't had measurable precipitation in about 3 weeks, but we are

tracking the next round. the next out. so hopefully this weekend. so there is excitement for really excited about the technology side of this because i'm a nerd like that. but are did, are they talking about like different computer algorithms that they're using to help forecast talking about new satellites? like what do you expect to hear on that front? >> yeah, a wide range of topics. and james, i know you love this step as well. so a lot of excitement on there's there's a discussions on ai liar, weather forecasting. there is a meteorologist from pg and e here and there's also a former fema director and they will be talking about hurricanes flooded wrist and those zones as well. a scientist from stanford. so there is that so many experts here and there's another wildfire expert here. you know, who'll particularly talk about coastal wildfire risk, which timely, you know, based on what is happening in southern california. so a lot to here. the next 2 days. excited to bring you all the

information i learn. >> i know it's going to kind of interesting, too. and just like the insurance front with so many people losing insurance, like if they can better improve the forecasting, maybe more insurance companies will be, you know, willing to come back and offering no homeowners and fire insurance, whatnot here. and yeah, one of the think one of the side angles, you know, that could play on trees about anyway. yeah, absolutely. i'm sure that will come up cares about some trends that they're talking about. so you mentioned we could. >> use a lot more snow and a lot more water throughout the state. so what are some of the trends that they're seen? you know, so many meteorologist, a tv meteorologist and scientists from across the country, some from our nexstar stations as well here to learn people from michigan, colorado, florida. so there's going to be. >> a lot of discussions here and you know something, it. we had our opening reception night last night and something that came up was, of course, to wildfires what's happening in southern california and also just how dry it's been as yeah, well, you you couldn't ask for like smarter people in

a single room to start, you know, brainstorming, all of that kind of stuff. so we're excited to see what comes out of that. gale, we're looking forward to hearing your report after the fact. yeah, kudos to you for being out there bringing all that great knowledge stay >> it stays warm, you know, my is cold in the bay area and that you're a little colder up there at tahoe. >> where, as you can see right now, the sun is out. no more snow in honestly, there wasn't even a lot of snow this weekend for tahoe. most of that was centered a little bit further south. this was definitely a system this weekend that favored southern california where we're sitting here in the bay area. we have indeed been cold ourselves. we go back and are frost advisories tonight from 02:00am to 09:00am and even freeze watches going into effect the next several evening. so definitely a cold next several days. lake tahoe has no advisories right now, but south of yosemite national park. we are still under a winter weather advisory until 04:00pm today. you're 70 southward is where the bulk of that snow was. and we even had

snow last night up along the grapevine, closing portions of the route. i-5 from southern california into the central valley. so important note there as you head that direction, showers are diminishing for socal. neighbors will stay dry the next several days here in the bay intel thursday night. that's when we'll start to see the return of rainfall. and yet again, the bay area's right on the cusp of this rainfall, potential. but rather than a southern california system like last weekend, this one is favoring the north and the north coast is really going to be seeing some pretty heavy rainfall right here in the bay north of the golden gate, some decent shower activity south of the golden gate this weekend. you may even tap into some sunshine. so it all just depends on how north you are. take a look at this disparity between rainfall this weekend. northern parts of the bay santa rosa over and inch and a half of rain. you get down to san jose. you may just see 607 inch, hardly anything. so again, northern california really going to see some heavy rain and can't forget that snow donner summit will be

seeing around a foot of snowfall over the weekend. great news for the sierra. finally getting back in the mix 50's to 60's for daytime highs today. today is going to be a cool one compared to last week but comfortably cool tomorrow. much the same. we'll cool down a little bit further on towards the tail end of the week with showers in the north bay this weekend and a little less active for the south bay right all right. >> in line on the bay bridge heading into the city. well, it no longer san mateo bridge. was summer feels at 18 and the golden gate bridge. 37 of the tolls. 23 minutes. >> let's go to the south bay now at 9.19, san jose mayor matt mahan is asking local churches to help with housing the homeless last week the mayor held a panel to talk to religious leaders about how their parking lots could be converted into at least temporary housing by the end of the event. 9 groups expressed some interest in this plan. the panel also talked about how religious

institutions can get involved in beautifying. the city. san jose has roughly 6,000 homeless residents with more than 4400 of them being unsheltered. older adults are also now a growing segment of the homeless population. >> san francisco transit officials says they are facing a major budget shortfall as 70 a and the public to a meeting officials cite a decline in funding and high inflation reasons for the deficit. agency warning of potential cuts to muni and other services. public discussion is on friday, january 31st. you can attend in person and online. who's in los angeles county continue to make progress on wildfire containment. palisades fires burned more than 23,000 acres reach. 94% containment. the fire burning more than 14,000 acres. and that's now nearly 100% contained. the hughes fire burning right near castaic. lake is where more than 10,000 acres. and that is

still 95% contained. and with the recent storm system in los angeles county officials warning about the possibility of fast-moving mud and debris flows urging residents tailored firefighters in the national guard are doing their part to try to help residents, little debris, him burn areas. the storm is expected to stick around this morning. >> 9.21 the time and one santa clara county community with high fire risk is proactively taking steps now to protect residents from disasters amid blazes in other parts of the state. so the los gatos town council voted to create a full time emergency preparedness manager position. person will also be allocating 1 million dollars from reserves to partially cover the salary and boost wildfire emergency initiatives. the new position and funding is aiming to better address fire prevention and protection in the very hilly los gatos area. a town without a fire department that relies really on the county

camp across the bay many are holding member to events to pay tribute to the 6 million jewish victims of the holocaust showing horta and san francisco with more. >> joey? good morning, guys. yeah. synagogues all across the area. that community centers. >> remembering all those lives lost. millions of them. and today, generations later, there's so much anti-semitism that is still out there that there having to deal with. so here's what's going on today. survivors will be sharing their powerful stories with the community to offer their perspectives to make sure that this dark period in history. is never forgotten many in the bay area have lost family members to the holocaust and they're worried about history repeating itself. >> when i was in high school and i went to family gatherings with arrows thinks giving or passover. there were people sitting at the table right next to me who had tattoos on their arms that work given to them at

concentration camps evokes this this notion of >> the lives souls that were lost. and the pain that people had to endure. inspires me to think about never allowing this to happen ever again. >> the only way can fight darkness is was light. now there will be important conversations today about fighting hatred and discrimination. >> memorial services will be held. candles will be lit. a holocaust survivor will be among the speakers at today's remembrance in san jose. that's at city hall at 3.30, this afternoon. other commemoration events, including one that is going on right now in san francisco. the location being held under wraps because of security concerns. it will be another event coming up in their here in the city later this evening. so much more on this to come later on. kron 4 news back to you. joey, thank you

very much. 9.32 is the time. >> so in the north bay, the public defender's office is holding a what they're calling a clean slate day to help community members clear up their criminal records. the event is designed to help people basically cleanup past felonies and misdemeanors and arrests and convictions and allow them to more fully engage with society. so the free legal advice will be offered on various topics, how to file a petition. let's say, for expungement to be a record or at least a reduction or maybe even sealing your record altogether, you're encouraged to pre-register for the event. they will accept walk-ins, but it's a first come first serve basis. the event set for wednesday from 9 in the morning till 03:00pm out of the county event center on texas street in fairfield. and it's free to attend. >> well, in the east bay, a canadian man sentenced to 2 years in prison after extorted, a minor in contra costa county. the da's office identified the man as 25 year-old nicholas fahy. he made contact with the victim over social media back in 2019, he requestedexually

explicit images of the victim when the victim complied fahey. he threatened to release the images unless more are set. canadian police arrested fayette his home back in 2021. >> to play a college students caught in the crossfire of a gas station shooting. one of those young men now fighting for his life. the shooting draws increased attention, a crime in the city there. crawford check moment has the story. >> caldera times, campus students are on edge after 2 of their own were shot traumatize. we don't really hear about much gun violence and yet second happened. every was really scared. the shooting happened on tuesday just after 7 in the evening at this express gas station on tennessee avenue. you can see the suspected shooter here standing next to their car and the next clip you see them shoot from the driver's side window towards this man in a blue hoodie. the white truck here caught in the crossfire and inside were 2 cal maritime students you see here running for safety, blood running down their clothes from the gunshot wounds. a gofundme for one of

the victims says the student was put in a medically induced coma after being shot in the face. the road to recovery will be long. the other student shot was released from the hospital. the president of the university put out a statement the next day saying, quote, given this unprovoked criminal attack on our colleagues. i remind everyone to exercise the utmost caution and always maintain situational awareness of what is going on around you. will the shooting happened just about 3 miles away from the university. many students we spoke to on saturday. tell us that they're fearful of the crime just about every time they have to leave campus kind of like going in a resort, a 3rd world country. >> just don't leave it. yeah. that's how these freshman maritime students who are from southern california, described the lay, whoa. >> they say they've seen crime just about weekly and say they want to see more police. we have more cops on campus that in the city. so, yeah, there's very little policing around last year, kron 4 reported the vallejo police department 31 officers when they're supposed to have over 100 rose looking over our shoulder like we know

the threat that's out there. but despite the fear, the students are happy for the community support. everyone's reposting ensuring go fund me so the entire school has their back. yeah. the schools also helping out telling us to maintain situational awareness and all that a suspect is under arrest at vallejo. police say they're still investigating the shooting. reporting in vallejo jack moment. kron 4 news. a woman is dead after was trapped under a car following a crash in berkeley. >> police say it happened at the intersection of 8 in california. streets just before one on sunday. fire crews at the lift the car up to get the victim from up under the car. she was a to the hospital where she later died. police have not made any arrests and it's still unclear what caused that crash. >> well, the thousands of demonstrators converged on san francisco civic center plaza for the 21st annual march for life. this comes after president trump vowed to support anti abortion efforts in his second term. he recently and forced a federal amendment that restricts government funding for most abortions. now antiabortion

advocates gave testimonies advocating their prolife stance and then the pro-choice group help their own demonstration across the street. and we talced to both. >> i know i great me and news. he's a creative of as i'm going to be completely now i have say >> president trump is also ended federal abortion. coverage overseas. >> one other big story that we're following, immigration enforcement operations are ramping up across the country. yeah. law enforcement agencies kicked off a series of raids targeting migrants with criminal backgrounds. >> our dc correspondent jessi tenure has the story. while the trump administration is seeing widespread cooperation from multiple u.s. law enforcement agencies to deport these migrants, some countries have been pushing back on the efforts. >> hunting down and arresting hundreds of illegal area president. donald trump said his crackdown on illegal

immigration in the u.s. has only just begun sending every border trespasser violated back to the places from which they countries like guatemala began receiving migrants deported from the u.s. but others like colombia initially blocked the flights over concerns of how the trump administration was treating the migrants after threatening 25% tariffs on all colombian incoming goods and visa restrictions. the white house announced columbia what except the flights were seeing kind of chaos. democrats like california senator adam schiff criticized the trump administration's efforts on nbc's meet the press. schiff warned the actions would also increase prices when president trump vowed to lower them mass deportations of farm workers in california maybe have to work force are going to drive food prices through the roof. mass deportation of construction workers are going to drive housing prices even more through the roof. but border czar tom homan told abc's this week to expect more actions if in the country got a problem.
