all districts in san francisco. the goal is to slow down drivers and save lives from for sara stinson. joining us live in the city now with more details. sarah. >> no, all these cameras are beings installed. a san francisco comes off its deadliest year for traffic crashes in a decade. i spoke with street advocates from walk sf. they say speed is the number one cause for deadly crashes. they're hopeful these cameras will prevent more deaths >> speeding drivers will soon be caught on camera in san francisco. sfmta is installing speed cameras at 33 locations across the city last year. there were 42 people killed in traffic crashes in san francisco. that was the worst in a decade. and so the speed cameras can't really get on the ground soon enough. this map shows where the cameras will be with at least 2 in each district and 7 in the south of market neighborhood.

marta lindsay with walk sf says they recently visited one of the locations on ala many boulevard where they measure drivers going. 48 miles per hour in a 30 zone. all of the locations make a ton of sense. if you look at how the city chose these its base on very high crash rates, high-speed you know, they went out and tested all of these. the cameras will snap photos of rear license plates of vehicles driving 11 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit. then the registered owner will receive a citation in the mail ranging from 50 to $500 depending on the speed. lindsey says the best way to avoid a fine is to slow down. there's going to be plenty of signs around that show where these by speed cameras are. so this isn't going to be any sort of gotcha experience. and again, this is to change behavior. it's not to make money. sfmta has put up 8 billboards warning drivers of the cameras coming this march saying obey the speed limit. permanent signs

will also be placed at 30 major city entrances that say traffic laws in san francisco are photo enforced and crews were seen monday afternoon installing new speed limit signs on gary street speed cameras work and they don't just work in sunriver zone. they work in preventing severe and fatal traffic crashes. >> one speed cameras are up in march. sfmta plans to issue warning notices to speeding drivers just for the first 2 months. and then they'll start mailing out those fines. i'm sara stinson reporting live at san francisco. back to tara. thank you. a new traffic installation. meantime, in the cities of sunset neighborhoods confusing for drivers, it's called a neck down. >> it's located on street between 9th and 10th avenues. it funnels a two-way traffic into a one-way street. and then back to a two-way street. >> the people on this side to that are yielding don't know what to do. there's the

bicyclists, but i worry about because i feel like people are trying to the neck down and it's just confusing. >> the sfmta says the purpose neck down is to slow down cars and address traffic volume in the neighborhood. the neck down is a trial and its object to evaluation and possible changes. scientists have detected unusually high concentration of heavy metals at hamas landing nature reserve just 2 miles from the site of the recent battery plant. fire researchers was san jose state university have been monitoring the soil in elkhorn slew for years in the week and a half since the fire. they recently detected an increase in metals commonly found in batteries. the fire at vistra power plant forced evacuations and burned for days. researchers say their findings are clearly connected to the incident and will have an impact on the local ecosystem. they're continuing to monitor those soils. they say monterey county officials have been made aware of their findings. let's get you a

check of the forecast. taking a live look at the embarcadero and the bay bridge. you can see that american flag waving in the wind. lawrence. it's a cold one out there. yeah, you know it. you don't see out there is you don't see the clouds. these temperatures. they falling off and the hurry that cold. >> arctic air kind of settling in for the night now getting ready for that big chill outside temperatures. >> yeah. maybe even some upper 20's in spots around the bay area. as you head inland. but out there right now over san francisco, you've got clear skies to and that's the way it's going to stay all night long. temperatures falling off already. some spots already in the 30's power off to 37 degrees right now. we've got 30's in the interior valleys in the east bay and you can already see a lot of those temperatures in the 30's inland in the north as well. so, you know, are headed from here down to the freezing mark in spots, maybe even a little bit below. we've got to freeze watches that have now been posted across much of the north bay and the east bay as well as the peninsula and the south bay. and watching for frost advisories for tomorrow morning, as we're likely to see some widespread frost

around the bay area. how about a temperature of 31 degrees below freezing in santa rosa bout? 33 in napa. 32 in freezing in livermore. 34 in antioch and 33 degrees in concord, even inside the bay. those temperatures are hovering in the 30's about the coastline, half moon bay down to the upper 30's to that storm system that brought some showers. the bay rain to southern california that's moving out of town. but we've got a chance of more rain will tell you when coming up in a few minutes. thank you, lawrence. >> toledo police teaming up with chp to crack down on sideshows and reckless driving. a new operation started this weekend enhance the number of patrols on the streets. police say the extra patrols will allow them to more easily disrupt the sideshows and hold suspects accountable. immigration and customs enforcement agents were spotted in san jose this morning. the rapid response network, a nonprofit tracking ice activity have says the agents were seen along capitol avenue near alum rock avenue today. this is video from yesterday near story road at

king road. the rapid response network believes at least one person was detained. the nonprofit also believes ice is targeting people with existing deportation orders. in a statement, san jose mayor matt mahan says, quote, i sincerely hope ice remains focused on enforcement actions related to violent and serious criminals harming our city, not neighbors who are contributing and law abiding members of our community and quote, the mayor adds san jose police do not assist in any ice operations. san francisco state senator scott wiener addressed recent activity in the city of san francisco of immigration officials there. >> or city one function without or janitors. the keeper offices clean that help our economy run their salt of the earth. they're just trying to work and pay taxes and raise their families. and donald trump is creating a

terror campaign to try to scare and terrify these hardworking residents. members of our community and we don't need ice in san francisco. >> on social media, we never posted the following. quote, trump says he's only targeting criminals. it's a bold face lie. we are continuing to follow report of shooting in san francisco's soma neighborhood. san francisco police asking people to avoid the area of 9th and mission streets after a shooting earlier this evening left one person injured. police say happened just before 5 o'clock officers. we're told the shooter could still be in a nearby building. officers are still there investigating the victim was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. we've reached out to san francisco police to get more details. we'll, of course, update you either here or online at kron 4 dot com as soon as we hear back. but again, 9th and mission streets is to be avoided this evening

tonight. bay area, jewish leaders marking 80 since the liberation of auschwitz, the largest of the not the concentration camps kron four's lindsey ford attended tonight's commemoration of remembrance of the holocaust where she spoke to international diplomats who shared how tonight is also about ending anti-semitism. >> evening of remembrance in san francisco honoring the millions of lives lost in the holocaust and marking 80 years since the liberation of auschwitz, the largest of the nazis concentration camps, guest include international diplomats from israel, germany and austria, as well as lieutenant governor eleni kounalakis. so by being here all together to heart, lift up the jewish community on this. you know, very solemn is very important that the greater message. >> it's also important tolerance and love and respect knock us as well as marco sermon, the counsel general of

putting them out of business is simply just the high operating costs of running a restaurant in silicon valley. >> there may never be a place to get with that combo. a grubber kick quickly service and delicious food has a funny farm in san jose's. every love hosting everyone. it's invaluable to us. that's just who we are. decor. we got to know funny farm and its staff last summer from this. back-to-back break. it 3 of them in just one month. co-owner monica levi says each one of them cost thousands of dollars to repair, you know, the break-ins and repair costs and all the things that people don't think about when they think of a restaurant. everything since the break-ins that funny farm, local leaders have tried to protect the businesses on this trip with an increased police presence that help prevent crimes, but not the other challenge. we went from an $1800 a month bill. 3 years later, we're paying 6,500 a month for pg. e the restaurant has also been dealing with increasing costs of food like eggs, levi says

temperatures today 50's and 60's all around the bay area are really some nice weather to be had. but we're holding on to this nice pattern right now. but things are going to change more rapidly this time. this not big blocking ridge set center, very low pressuae moving through southern california. the jet stream has been moving well to the north. that's going to take a dip. this ridge. you can start to flatten out. you see here on the models to as we go through time as we get in toward the midweek, all of a sudden you see a little ripple in the atmosphere here. that ridge starts to flatten out a bit as we get ready for a return to potentially some wet weather. now, the focus of this storm system going to be mainly north of the golden gate bridge. see that cutoff line sales coming almost perpendicular to the coastline. and so again, this is kind of like the november set up, right where we had all that heavy rain in parts of the north bay are really a south bay, not a whole lot of rain into redwood city or san jose. that may be the way this plays out, too, is we're going to see rain really continue on and off throughout the weekend. tapered off a little bit on sunday to get everybody wet, though, as the main branch, that storm kind of rolls through as we get in toward the late monday into tuesday of next week. rainfall
