spotted in san jose. ice agents now spotted in san francisco as well. and breaking news, san francisco police shoot and kill a suspect overnight reporting from investigators this morning. and it's getting worse for san mateo county sheriff christina corpus. yet another city expected to say they have no confidence in leadership. kron. 4 morning news starts now. it said. >> good morning and thanks for waking up with us on a tuesday. i'm daria and i'm james. we're gonna start this hour with a check of weather and traffic as we like to do, especially on morning when it's this cold. yeah, and it's tough because, you know tough. it is not tough. it's nice. you get the afternoons that are warm and warnings that are freezing. just kind of have to be ready for anything county. you guys noticed it is really chilly outside. right now. some areas are in the. >> sub-freezing category below. 32 degrees. so for going outside right now, grab the warm jacket because i think you'll be happy. you had it with you.

>> overall at sunrise at 7.16, but we're already seeing some light coming from the. >> from the sun. so it's going to be beautiful. but the freeze warnings that's down in the santa clara valley that's down in the southern east bay hills, the rest of the bay area. it's all about the frost advisory and the sure right by the water's edge. so those both expire at 9 o'clock and we'll get some sunshine. we'll start to warm things up very, very nicely. but temperatures right now, check him out. some areas are still in the 30's and even the 20's. 31 in palo alto, 27 now in fairfield and 34 nevado santa rosa below freezing at 30. so a lot of areas are really icy cold that will change. and actually our forecast high temperatures this afternoon in the 50's and even the low 60's with some mostly sunny skies. daria. >> all right. bill vehicles out there been really slowing down this morning. we got another one on the richmond, sandra fell bridge. 31 minutes

as near the middle of the rich. that's when things are so slow along. richmond, sandra fell bridge. we had another one on the bay bridge. looks like that one already clear. but we've got residual delays from. that's about 24 minutes on the bay bridge traveling into the city. no accidents just stalled out cars. 21 minutes along our salmon tail and the golden gate bridge around 26 minutes. sorry. james, back to you. thanks a lot. right let's get to the breaking news just happened overnight where there was a shooting suspect who wind being shot and killed by the police. >> and san francisco south of market. yeah. police say the gunman shot another man in the area of 9th and mission. >> the victim was critically injured and taken to the hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds. in the meantime, the suspected gunman got into a standoff with police at a nearby building. now, officers say that suspect refused to come out. and at one point, gunfire was exchanged between the suspect and the officers. and that's when the gunman was killed by police. the pieces are gonna hold a town hall about the shooting in about 10

days to explain more as their investigation unfolds. 702, right now. and we ve oer breaking news that we're folling re. or a woman was found dead on a sidewalk in santa rosa. >> and so police are investigating what happened. she wasoundn white would drive north of herndon avenue around 7 o'clock last night. no arrests have been made. >> well, the trump administration is moving forward with its mass deportation plans. we know ice agents have been spotted in both san jose and now in san francisco kron four's joey horta is live in san francisco where leaders are going to come together this morning. joey. >> yeah, we're expecting to hear from both city leaders and union leaders. they're calling the what's being done here, justin, they're calling for justice for undocumented immigrants here in san francisco. according to state senator scott wiener, ice agents were operating downtown here on friday. agents were inside 2 office buildings but did not make any arrests. according to the union that represents the janitors. it's

leading to heightened concerns for the safety and dignity of a documented undocumented immigrant workers in this sanctuary city. >> economic collapse of folks don't speak up. we need business to be a better be become allies. and it's not just because you want your buildings claim. it's because it's the humane thing to do. some. >> folks are afraid going to work, sending their kids to school and maybe even giving up. going back to where they came from. >> we'll hang is a university of san francisco professor. he is also part of the university's immigration and deportation defense clinic. it says the clinic is getting a lot of phone calls from undocumented immigrants worried about mass deportations. agents also spotted sunday at a target parking lot san jose. according to the rapid response network. now city leaders and janitors union are

holding a press conference at 11 o'clock this morning. we're expecting to hear more from them about what they're calling for after again, ice agents have been spotted here and a the last few back bank. you doing. >> 704 is the time. also happening today, the city of millbrae is going to be holding a vote of no confidence against controversial san mateo county sheriff christina corpus. the resolution is just part of what has been going on and action against the sheriff over recent weeks. kron four's will tran brings us up-to-date live in millbrae. well. well, area, even if they vote no confidence against the sheriff, it does not mean that her time as sheriff will be ending. it just does not bode well for because ultimately. >> it could be the voters to decide on march 4th, whether or not she stays in office. but we do know that the vote by the city council will take place right behind me at 7 o'clock tonight. but it appears that the walls could

be closing in on christina corpus and her time as san mateo county sheriff. she has been accused homophobia, racism, nepotism, abuse of power. all allegations that she denies that she wants to stay in office and she is fighting back. but according to san mateo county, her fight was too late because ballots have already been sent sent out for march here's at what's at stake. come march 4th. the voters will get decide whether or not the 5 county board of supervisors will have the power to remove are all it takes is 4 out of 5. if they grant the power to the board of supervisors, it appears that they more than likely will remove her from office or attorneys say they cannot do that because the county charter does not allow a special election outside of general election for this particular matter. and that means that it could be decided in november of 2026. but the

county says your rebuttal simply too late. the ballots have already sent out and we are moving forward with that. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. we'll >> time now 706. let's go to the east bay where the coalition for community engagement is asking alameda county supervisors to reveal attorney general rob bonta pick for a new district attorney. as you know, former alameda county da pamela price was recalled. the group is demanding transparency for political endorsements, lobbying for bond as candidate. and they're holding a news conference today at 2 o'clock outside the justice building 707. >> police and the chp are working together to crack down on sideshows and reckless driving. new operation started this weekend. that increases the number of officers on the streets. police say those extra patrols will allow them to more easily respond to sideshows and arrest participants. >> time now is 707 and is soon to be harder to get away was

speeding in san francisco, the city's installing more than 33 cameras with the goal of slowing down drivers and saving 4 sarah stinson has more. >> these cameras are being installed. a san francisco comes off its deadliest year of traffic crashes in the last decade. i spoke with street safety advocates at walk sf who say speed is the number one cause of deadly crashes and they're hopeful these cameras will prevent more deaths. >> speeding drivers will soon be caught on camera in san francisco. sfmta is installing speed cameras at 33 locations across the city last year. there were 42 people killed in traffic crashes in san francisco. that was the worst in a decade. and so the speed cameras can't really get on the ground soon enough. this map shows where the cameras will be with at least 2 in each district and 7 in the south of market neighborhood. marta lindsay with walk sf says they recently visited one of the locations on ala many

boulevard where they measure drivers going. 48 miles per hour in a 30 zone. all of the locations make a ton of sense. if you look at how the city chose these its base on very high crash rates, high-speed issues. they you know, they went out and tested all of these. the cameras will snap photos of rear license plates of vehicles driving 11 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit. then the registered owner will receive a citation in the mail ranging from 50 to $500 depending on the speed. lindsey says the best way to avoid a fine is to slow down. there's going to be plenty of signs around that show where these by speed cameras are. so this isn't going to be any sort of gotcha experience. and again, this is to change behavior. it's not to make money. sfmta has put up 8 billboards warning drivers of the cameras coming this march saying obey the speed limit. permanent signs will also be placed at 30 major city entrances that say

traffic laws in san francisco are photo enforced and crews were seen monday afternoon installing new speed limit signs on gary street speed cameras work and they don't just work in sunriver zone. they work in preventing severe and fatal traffic crashes. once the speed cameras are up in march. sfmta plans to issue warning notices to speeding drivers for the first 2 months. then the fines will be mailed out after that. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in san francisco. back to >> 709. right now. and new san francisco mayor daniel lurie is attacking the city's fentanyl crisis head-on today. he starts a series of public events where he outlines his fentanyl state of emergency ordinance. that legislation is going to be for heard by the board of supervisors in their budget and finance committee on wednesday. tomorrow. today's going to be speaking at city hall at a rally at 11, 30 and then at 2, he's gonna make his monthly appearance of the board of supervisors and

lot of moisture from the ocean because it's coming from the land toward the sea. not very impressive until we get to this evening when we get close to 16, 17 miles per hour, especially right along the water's edge. so it's going to be a lovely day with lots of sunshine and not too breezy. storm tracker shows high pressure in control. you can tell this, look at all these clouds going right over that big area of high pressure and it will bring us some sunshine for a couple of days. we'll start to see that high breakdown and then we'll start to see a change. and a more zonal flow. and then all of a sudden a chance of some precipitation. so a cold morning becoming sunny today and tomorrow and we go mostly cloudy as we head into thursday or so drought monitor. do we need rain? of course we need rain. we're heading into drought, especially southern california, but even in the bay area, and then we'll talk later about the chance for rain and where it's going to hit. rana. >> which is in celebrations right near the mid span of the

live at edgewood resort and look behind me. the sun is out. you can see the lake. there is no cap now. it's just a beautiful. it is that in the teens, i think at last check of 18 degrees or 20 degrees down. so it is cold. you know, one thing i had to use haven't in a while as the ice scraper heading out here to look at with the car. >> yeah, it's been nice out here during day is sunny. and we learned we has had a budget presentations yesterday. some of things that we learned we heard from a former fema administrator. he weighed in on wildfires in southern california. the future of insurance policies. a very interesting take. it is based in florida now we also learned from is from canada. who talked about the similarities between, you know, parts in canada. and, you know, it's that is similar to parts of california. they have atmospheric rivers, that extreme heat. and we also heard from an environmental scientists from stanford talking about air quality and things. you know, a lot of

people should be thinking about especially with that. all that's going on down in southern california with all the particular matter in the atmosphere with folks that are so much i could go on and one of the speakers we are going going to hear about out here from this we have a e meteorologist. so not all meteorologists are on you several companies have a team of meteorologists who forecasting the weather at this specifically on some of the talking points we're going to hear today is about a wildfire forecasting and this is that some of the things they're doing at pg u with using artificial intelligence to forecast better, accurate forecast. >> what we're able to do is with a lot of historical data that we collected on. not only the whether the fuel moistures. we also know where the catch of fires have happened in the past. we try to pinpoint it down, do exactly when and where they happen. we could combine that in the machine learning artificial intelligence algorithm to then tease out what parameters most

predictive of future currents of catastrophic wildfires. so that goes into our model, which we then use it to determine who's in scope from the sbs of who might not be in scope for the sbs that we might need to monitor more closely. >> that pg e meteorologist referring to better forecasting for as we know, those public safety power shut-offs that our issue during high-risk fire weather. and are also going to hear from a professor and byron mental, a scientist from hemisfair excite just rather from the university of nevada. i'm really looking forward to it. he is going to say in his presentation, he's going to be presenting about coastal weather and fire conditions, which is what we are seeing in southern california. so a lot of topics i can't go on and >> that is the latest here at we're live here on nevada side you know, beautiful. right behind me. and it's just been so much fun. we are at

co-owner monica levi says each one of them cost thousands of dollars to repair, you know, the break-ins and repair costs and all the things that people don't think about when they think of a restaurant. everything since the break-ins that funny farm, local leaders have tried to protect the businesses on this trip with an increased police presence that help prevent crimes, but not the other challenge. we went from an $1800 a month bill. 3 years later, we're paying 6,500 a month for pg. e the restaurant has also been dealing with increasing costs of food like eggs, levi says decided to close was not easy. one of my staff said. >> this is not a business. this is our home. this is where we feel safe. san jose councilmember domingo can dallas sent a statement to kron 4 saying in part it is o% unfortunate that the cost of doing business in this city is so high, especially for our local family-owned restaurants. >> which form the social fabric of our communities. restaurant that's dressed like a 24 7 party. the funny farm

plans to say goodbye in style with hours going late all week and celebrating the good times with their longtime fan base. it's like when you lose someone, you celebrate their life. and that's what we're doing here. if you want to support the funny farm restaurant before the close on sunday, february second, they will be open just about every single day this week. >> and on that sunday that they do close, they will be open extra late reporting here in san jose. jack moment. kron 4 news. well in the east bay. we've got richmond police now concluding a months long investigation into narcotics dealing and illegal firearms. >> it all began way back in september of last year while patrolling the area of shields read where community members had complained of drug sales officers at that point found a jeep with 5 people inside. one was a minor in possession of 33 grams of marijuana. another person was on probation and then a search of the vehicle found 2 loaded guns, one of which was reported stolen the next day. then officers searched the home that that jeep was parked in front of and that's where they found more guns and drugs by january

5 other homes in the neighborhood were also searched and more illegal drugs and weapons were discovered. in the 3 more people were arrested. over the past 30 days. san francisco police have arrested 218 people on the city's troubled 6th street corridor. and this is all part of the police department's drug market coordination center, which is a partnership with other city departments to address street conditions and crime in the tenderloin and south of market neighborhoods of the recent arrests, 120 will for were for drug-related offenses. 36 were for outstanding warrants. 18 were for assault and 40 were for other crimes. mayor daniel lurie has pledged to make the drug market coordination center. a 24 7 operation. >> 7.35 in classes are canceled for the whole week. laos. cool because somebody stole copper wire and that cut the power it did. now. the school now facing some pretty costly repairs. the district is already. >> having to consider merging

schools because of a budget deficit. and this is not helping knowledge. costly to fix kron four's. philippe djegal has more. >> no school this week. that is what is written on signage at the gates leading into solano. we demand leadership academy in vallejo. classrooms are empty and so were the plain fields as the entire school was forced to take monday off. thinking at least the week we're hoping it shorter and indoor basketball tournament scheduled saturday was canceled once organizers noticed the electricity was not working. turns out vallejo city unified school district spokesperson selena bag says sometime between friday night and early that morning thieves broke in stole copper wire from the power grid, cutting electricity off for the entire kindergarten through 8th grade campus. the vallejo police department is investigating. these are children and it's just disappointing that that somebody would do this to a school where these kids did

saving lives. >> and right now it takes us on average of 6 minutes. and 31 seconds for an officer to arrive on scene to a priority. one call perfect example we get a call of a shooting or stabbing at one of our local parks within 90 seconds to 2 minutes that drone could be overhead and it's still taking on average the officer, another 4 and a half to 5 minutes to arrive on the scene. so during that crucial time, that gap between the drone arriving in the officer, we now have a live stream event or not. we're able to see our suspects fleeing the scene. >> the officers also say these drones would be helpful during natural disasters like wildfires. not everybody's convinced. some are worried these drones could be used to spy on people. and in response to that, the police department says these drones would only be used for emergency situations and never used for random surveillance. well, as people in southern california work to rebuild after the devastating wildfires, there is a new bill that would allow

them to sue major oil and gas companies for damages. it's called the affordable insurance and climate recovery act. and it says that fossil fuel industries have contributed to climate change, which then causes natural disasters like the fires we saw in la. it would let natural disaster victims and insurance companies bring lawsuits against some of the major companies in that industry. state senator scott wiener who represents san francisco authored the legislation. he says it'll help hold that industry accountable. >> this is an industry that has known. that its product was fueling climate change was going to lead to these disasters for decades because they had the science. they on that science. they suppress that and they have done all of this in order to make money. >> some republicans and industry leaders are speaking out against the bill saying it furthers what they consider to be a false narrative about climate change and makes workers a scapegoat.
