as we chat with him. one on one. good morning and thanks for joining us on a tuesday. i'm darya james weather and traffic to start. the are for that, though. get update on some of the news now. we had a couple of shootings that happened last night in. >> some people are dead as a result of that. so we'll talk about kathy's in for john with the weather. and it's another cold 1, 0, it's been so cold this morning. it will be cold again tomorrow again the next morning and eventually we'll see some changes. >> but right now we've got the blue skies in many spots and some clouds and others, but we're starting to warm up just a little bit. it's going to be absolute beautiful. no longer freezing temperatures. we're changing the weather pattern starting about thursday into friday because it's been high. it's been dry. and here comes some rain heading right to california. the question is how far south as it get going to affect us or not may be the

north bay. that's most likely. but how much really impressive rain we get in the south bay, maybe not so much, but we do have a couple of chances to get some rain on the weekend. and then again on tuesday. so we've got definitely some interesting weather coming up. and in terms of precipitation, it's the north bay that gets the most impressive numbers through monday over 2 inches about 2 tenths of an inch in san francisco. and just a few hundreds in parts of south of that. back to you. thank you, candy. at 10 o'clock, the breaking news we've been covering from overnight. 2 people are dead. there was. >> some violence around the bay. one happening in san francisco. the other in santa rosa. we've got rain harbor here in studio to walk us through what we know about actually show one woman from santa rosa is dead and a man from san francisco is dead after a night of violence. ok, let's start in santa rosa. woman was found dead on a sidewalk. police now investigang this as a homicide. the woman was found on white would drive north of our avenue around 7. no arrests have been made.

meanwhile, a shooting suspect and sandwiches because so many neighborhood has been shot and killed by police. police say a gunman shot another man in the area of night. the mission the victim was critically injured. he was taken to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. meantime, the suspected gunman got into a standoff with police at a nearby building. gunfire exchange happened between the suspect and officers. the gunman was killed by police. now as apd, they're gonna be holding a town hall on that fatal shooting in 10 days as it is all under investigation. i'll send it back to bill to the desk. thank you. reyna. >> 10. 0, 1, is the time the trump administration is moving forward with its promise of mass deportation. we know that ice agents have been spotted in both san jose and san francisco right now prefers joey horta it live for us in the city where san francisco leaders are set to come together later this morning to address that. joey. >> yeah, the labor union is demanding justice for these undocumented immigrants here. they'll be joined by city leaders within the next hour

or so. what we know is that here for one thing, the san francisco republican party is telling u.s. border security is one of the top priorities, but there are growing concerns among supporters of undocumented immigrants over safety. according to state senator scott wiener, immigration and customs enforcement was operating in downtown san francisco on friday. agents went inside to office buildings but did not make any arrests. according to the union that represents ths janitors. i agree with trump. mass deportation plans. i think it's a necessary step that this country is taking in regards to the mass deportation and specifically in regards to san francisco here in the city, i know people that are afraid already. >> our clinic is getting calls already about. should i send my kid to school? should i go to work? >> that here is already being fomented.

>> and agents were also spotted sunday at a target parking lot in san jose. according to rapid response. and that word and we're expecting to hear from city leaders and the union coming up here on the city steps. the city hall steps at 11 o'clock this morning live in san francisco. joey horta kron, 4 news. thank you, joey. >> okay. now let's turn to another big story today. the city of millbrae set to hold a vote of no confidence against controversial san mateo county sheriff christina corpus and the resolution part of the actions that have been taken against her in recent weeks. and kron four's will tran is live in millbrae with more on that. well. they will vote tonight duryea at 7 o'clock. i'm no confidence or confidence, but it really doesn't matter. >> how they vote. the fact that it's on the agenda, it doesn't look good for her, especially since she's already embattled now, the sheriff, she's still in office but come

march 4th. that could change. and here's the reason why. yes, no confidence does not help her cause, but come march 4th, the voters of mateo county, they could decide in a special election to give the county board of supervisors authorization to allow them and there are 5 of them to allow them to decide whether or not she should stay in office as sheriff of this county, she is embattled accused of many things, including racism, homophobia, nepotism abuse of power. she's been accused dating at work, which infuriated a lot of her co-workers. she's denied all allegations. she tried to fight back on the special election saying that the county charter does not allow that, that they're circumventing the county charter, saying that there is no special election for this particular matter in march. instead, if it is so it'll have to be november of 2026. so more than a year from now,

county responded by saying your window to respond has closed, especially since the ballots have already been mailed out. thank you. will. >> it's 10, 0, 5, in the east bay. the coalition for community engagement is calling on alameda county supervisors to reveal attorney general rob bonta pick for district attorney after as you know, alameda county da pamela price was recalled. the group is demanding transparency for political endorsements, lobbying for bond candidate. they're holding a news conference today at 2 outside the justice building. and police are investigating a deadly sideshow shooting that happened in oakland's east lake neighborhood around 8 o'clock last night on east 12th street near 9th avenue. there was a gun shot detection alert that went off. police showed up and they found evidence of a shooting but no victims or president. and then later, 3 people showed up at a hospital with gunshot wounds. one of them ended up dying. the 2 others are in stable

condition. >> police and the chp now working together to crack down on sideshows and reckless driving. a new operation started this weekend that increases the number of officers on the streets. police say the extra patrols will allow them to more easily respond to shied shows and arrests. participants. >> its soon going to be harder to get away with speeding in san francisco because the city's installing 33 more camera. goal is to slow down traffic. keep it safer for everybody proper. sarah stinson takes a closer look. >> these cameras are being installed. a san francisco comes off its deadliest year of traffic crashes in the last decade. i spoke with street safety advocates at walk sf who say speed is the number one cause of deadly crashes and they're hopeful these cameras will prevent more deaths. >> speeding drivers will soon be caught on camera in san francisco. sfmta is installing speed cameras at 33 locations

across the city last year. there were 42 people killed in traffic crashes in san francisco. that was the worst in a decade. and so the speed cameras can't really get on the ground soon enough. this map shows where the cameras will be with at least 2 in each district and 7 in the south of market neighborhood. marta lindsay with walk sf says they recently visited one of the locations on ala many boulevard where they measure drivers going. 48 miles per hour in a 30 zone. all of the locations make a ton of sense. if you look at how the city chose these its base on very high crash rates, high-speed issues. they you know, they went out and tested all of these. the cameras will snap photos of rear license plates of vehicles driving 11 miles per hour or more over the posted speed limit. then the registered owner will receive a citation in the mail ranging from 50 to $500 depending on the speed. lindsey says the best way to avoid a fine is to slow down. there's going to be

plenty of signs around that show where these by speed cameras are. so this isn't going to be any sort of gotcha experience. and again, this is to change behavior. it's not to make money. sfmta has put up 8 billboards warning drivers of the cameras coming this march saying obey the speed limit. permanent signs will also be placed at 30 major city entrances that say traffic laws in san francisco are photo enforced and crews were seen monday afternoon installing new speed limit signs on gary street speed cameras work and they don't just work in sunriver zone. they work in preventing severe and fatal traffic crashes. once the speed cameras are up in march. sfmta plans to issue warning notices to speeding drivers for the first 2 months. then the fines will be mailed out after that. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in san francisco back to. >> well, tonight is the time and news. after-school mayor daniel lurie is tackling the city's fentanyl crisis head-on

today. he's going to start with a series of public events highlighting his fentanyl state of emergency ordinance. that legislation is going to be heard at the board of supervisors, budget and finance committee on wednesday today, though he's going to be speaking at a rally at city hall at 11, 30. and then at 02:00pm he'll be making his monthly appearance that the board of supervisors side is going to make a stop here to forget, stay tuned. kron 4 because we're going to be talking. >> live with the mayor of san francisco about the issues that he wants to tackle most. and a new traffic installation, which is first to make the roads safer is confusing people and it actually might be more dangerous. we'll take a closer look at that. and a new executive order from president trump could ban transgender troops. we'll see how the bay area is responding. >> after a chilly start to the day we get mild temperatures this afternoon, mostly sunny skies, but they will stay skies, but they will stay mostly sunny all week.

>> and after us chilly start, the day were treated to sunshine this afternoon in many areas and temperatures in the 50's and 60's. going to be treated the same scenario for several days. so that's great news because we're going really enjoy these days with chilly mornings all the way through thursday and again, dry conditions through midweek. then we start to cloud things up on thursday and we have a chance for some rain and really depends on where you are as to how much rain will be heading in your direction. here's the future cast model showing big area of high pressure giving way to some clouds and then look rain

poise to hit right across the northern california, stretching down to the north bay and probably through parts of the bay area. that's where it gets a little iffy because just a few miles de france could mean a lot more rain. should all that travel a little bit further south or it could become a lot drier across the bay area. should that rain actually than just a little bit north? so it depends on where you are as to how much rain you're gonna get. and it's not just that one shot again sunday looks like some rain maybe across the bay area and it's more impressive on tuesday as we get some more significant rain looking more substantial, more reliable on tuesday. so the weather models are still a little bit up in the air on this. not going show you the future totals. this is for the bay area. you can see how much more rain is in the forecast for santa rosa at 2.3 inches through monday and about 2 tenths of an inch in san francisco and very just a smattering of a few raindrops part south. but then we'll put the same model in motion. and it's gonna go further in time

showing you northern california all the way down to big sur. so eureka, 5.7, 4 inches through thursday. the last one was monday. this is thursday. 2.8 in santa rosa, about half an inch in san francisco and san jose. so we're going be getting some rain over the next week in terms of temperatures today, 50's for the most part mid 50's in san francisco right along the coastline. mid-fifties also along the bay shoreline. you could pick out your spot. 56 in burlingame, you start to head south of starts to warm up just a little bit more after a chilly subfreezing starts in palo alto. 60 degrees. 63 in san jose and santa clara and a high of 62 in livermore. so really not a big swing in temperatures from the mid 50's to the low to mid 60's, not kill one of the warm spots at 63 and avato. 61 degrees. a look at the next 7 days. then shows chilly temperatures in the mornings. looking at some mild afternoons and then we thicken up the clouds on thursday and friday is first

only push people back into the closet like she had to do herself. we have a shameful past history in the past that were making progress on. >> and now this administration and its, you know, its supporters want to turn the clock back, at least 50 years on lgbtq, right, that groups of people simply because of what they are is completely contrary to that core military value. jorge reyes, salinas is with a quality california. >> he says the new requirements in the order that accuse transgender troops of being not physically or mentally capable to serve hurt the country more than help, but they're already thousands of transgender service members currently in the military who have met the standards and more than proven themselves to serve. >> want to protect their country on inauguration day. the president also revoked an executive order that allowed transgender people to serve and prevents the military from discharging soldiers because of their gender identity. >> this new military executive order makes those

administration wants those funds to help fight against mass deportations and then the second bill would allocate another 25 million dollars to the california department of justice. >> to help the attorney general fund future lawsuits against the trump administration. the full assembly vote on this legislation thursday. and if it passes, then it heads to the governor's desk. >> new this morning, a social media post by president trump has led to some confusion on line and resulted in a clarification from the california department of water resources late last night, trump posted this on his social media platform. the united states military just entered the great state of california and under emergency powers turned on the water flowing abundantly from the pacific northwest and beyond. however, california says that's not really the way it when the department of water resources posted this. the military did not enter california. the federal government restarted federal water pumps after they were

(vo) learn more at wellsfargo.com/getfargo. >> we're back at 10. 25 for your help. this morning. the first u.s. outbreak of bird flu in poultry has been discovered in duck farm here in california. so the strain of bird flu was detected. it's identified as age 5, 9, and known if this is the strain t t- that's going to cause human infection, but they're assessing that risk right now. whatever potential impact it might have to public health. authorities also detected the more common h 5 n one strain on the same farm in merced county. according to a report by the world organization for animal health, almost 120,000 birds on that farm have been killed since december. 2nd.

meanwhile, egg prices are expected to continue to go up. >> as the ongoing nationwide bird flu outbreak continues. experts say prices could climb another 20% this year, which would be on top of the nearly 40%. the prices jumped last year on average. the cost for a dozen eggs nationally is $4.15. but of course, here in california, you've probably noticed the store were nearly double that at about $9 per dozen with some folks paying even way more than that. the bird flu outbreak has led to the deaths of more than 100 million egg-laying hens. >> 10. 26 right now. and coming up on the kron 4 morning news, san francisco mayor daniel lurie is joining us live in studio. we're gonna discuss some of the issues that he's trying to fix in the city.

>> it's a beautiful tuesday morning. it started out so cold. it was so cold that there were. >> weather advisories in effect. in fact, freezing temperatures in many spots across the bay area. i see cold now it's starting to warm up. it is absolutely beautiful. your quality is ok, a moderate to good. you know. so we have high pressure that's been in control for quite a while. and so that tends to trap the particulate matter, right down by the earth. and so, you know, that's what happens sometimes. but the temperatures right now warming up quite nicely. now we're in the 30's and 40's. 42 40 in up a 42 santa rosa. 52 in half moon bay and 52 degrees in san jose. it's going to get even warmer, of course, into the 50's and 60's this afternoon. so today's highs, 57%, francisco, 59

deficit kron four's philippe to call as a closer look at what happened. >> no school this week. that is what is written on signage at the gates leading into solano. we demand leadership academy in vallejo. classrooms are empty and so were the plain fields as the entire school was forced to take monday off. thinking at least the week we're hoping it shorter and indoor basketball tournament scheduled saturday was canceled once organizers noticed the electricity was not working. turns out vallejo city unified school district spokesperson selena bag says sometime between friday night and early that morning thieves broke in stole copper wire from the power grid, cutting electricity off for the entire kindergarten through 8th grade campus. the vallejo police department is investigating. these are children and it's just disappointing that that somebody would do this to a school where these kids did nothing, didn't it didn't deserve bag. says initial repair quotes range from 150

to $250,000. students took monday off while teachers prepared at the school district's headquarters on mare island for independent learning plans starting tuesday, baggy out says the school district is committed to making the repairs and reopening the school declining enrollment and money problems have led the district to consider closing or consolidating some campuses. but bag yell says the leadership academy is not on the chopping block but could eventually take in students from another camp. this down the road. yes, we will do their hair stand. we are working really hard and in a statement, the vallejo city unified school district's superintendent ruben aurelio says, quote. >> we are deeply saddened and frustrated that this has happened again to one of our schools. these incidents disrupt, learning and negatively impact our families and the entire school community. >> in valais home, philippe djegal all kron. 4 news. all right, 10 33 is the time and

here in the studio, we're joined live this morning by san francisco, mayor daniel lurie to talk about a myriad of issues. first saw. yes, first off. welcome. thank for having and be here. welcome to your new mayorship. and i know that fentanyl is like on your mind this morning, especially. >> so let's talk about what you're doing, what we've asked the board of supervisors to pass a fentanyl state emergency ordinance that will allow us. >> to move swiftly. this is a crisis. this ordinance helps us meet that moment with the urgency that it deserves its going to help us move people off the street more quickly a so why do you see it as such a pivotal issue in a crisis? what what is the trickle down effect or or what others problems as city having that are directly related. >> we've had 1400 people die of overdose in our city over the last 2 years, we had a drop last year from over 800 to around 600. still acceptable by i hope everybody's standards. and then you see the conditions on

our streets. you see people suffering with addiction. we don't have enough treatment beds. we don't have enough mental health. that's we want to stand up. more of those more quickly and so that we give people a real option. right now, there are not enough of those bets have to clean up our streets, get people the help that they need. and then we can also start telling people san francisco is open for business again. all impacts our commercial corridors are downtown since the state of emergency. then facilitate the creation of more of these beds. more of these resources to try tackle the problem. yes, it does. it allows us to contract more quickly. we've estimated that if we work to do this during normal times without treating it with urgency that this demands we'd have to go to the board of supervisors nearly 50 times and it would go through, you 3, 6, 9, month process to this. we have act more quickly. it's also why it we

believe we have a majority of the supervisors willing to support it. we're still talking with them. but the conversations have been very constructive. what kind of conversations been having around? >> the immigration crackdowns that are happening right now. san francisco a sanctuary city and we'll see you on right and what happened over the weekend. so how you respond? there's a lot of fear in our communities. and i sat down yesterday with about 25 leaders from throughout the city from representing the immigrant community, the lgbtq+ community. and we are going to work together to make sure that we're communicating what is actually happening and making sure that we're not jumping in at rumors so what is actually happening? have you seen more raids happening or we've we've heard about a couple of instances and what we are telling people is that and this in fact, how we act. and that is that for a very long time now, as you mentioned, we have a we do not

allow our local law enforcement to work with federal enforcement those policies have kept us safe over the last. he had a number of years and i will continue uphold those policies. >> and then obviously we've had the president. target and say he's going to target cities and states that offer sanctuary status could be a punishment, right? like he's directing federal prosecutors to take a closer look at cities like san francisco in states like california. is that were you at all this and i are are district attorney is looking at all the language coming out of dc. i mean, there's a. >> it's seemingly a new order. kind of every few minutes. and so what i'm staying focused on is making sure that public safety is my number one priority. our policies keep our citizens safe. so i will continue to uphold those. and and that's my focus right now. there's a lot lot of noise

coming out of d c what we're going to do is make sure that we protect the people of san francisco since you bring a public safety. let's talk about that pertaining to crime. >> and people feeling safe walking around car break-ins, of course, retire and retail break-ins. you know it. been a rash of them. so. >> it was what i ran on. its wag got elected with a mandate. i'm going to focus on public safety is my number one priority. how the arsonist or see that we are short, 500 police officers. we should be around 2000 where below 1500. i went yesterday came out to the academy. they had first day of training at 55 new recruits. it was the largest class in 8 years. so we have to refill the ranks of our police department, our sheriff's department and our 9-1-1 dispatch office. and we're off to a great start. and does take time to do so. what else can do immediately right to try to get 2 people to feel safer in the business is to stop we need as many

officers walking the beat as possible. we need to get people that are struggling with behavioral health issues and with addiction off the street and into mental health and drug treatment. that's it goes back to this ordinance. i it's all connected if you have people that are dealing drugs openly using drugs suffering from addiction and they're not getting the help. then those conditions make people feel unsafe. it's unsafe for those people on our streets. it's unsafe for those people taking their kids to school in the morning. i i drive by the bus stops at south van ness market street. right? and you see people passed you know, from overdose and you got a family and a mother with 2 kids taking their kid to school in the same spot, we need to do better by but by everybody. and it's not just families too many. we have family that come into town as tourists. and there's a lot of tourists that have to go by, you know, and we obviously we've been get slammed on the national media for, you know, san francisco crime. don't go whatever.

yeah, it's an event that looks at the latest weather trends in climate trends and some of the latest technology to that meteorologist are using. and earlier we talked to kron four's gayle ong, who's there? >> we learned we has had a bunch of presentations some of things that we we heard from a former fema administrator, he weighed in on wildfires in southern california. the future of insurance policies. a very interesting take. it is based in florida now we also learned from is from canada. w.o talked about the similarities between, you know, parts in canada. and, you know, it's that is similar to parts of california. they have atmospheric rivers, that extreme heat. and we also heard from an environmental scientists from stanford talking about air quality and things. you know, a lot of people should be thinking about especially with that. all that's going on down in southern california with all the particular matter in the atmosphere with spokes that are so much i could go on and one of the speakers we are

going going to hear about hear from this we have a e meteorologist. so not all meteorologists are on you several companies have a team of meteorologists who forecasting the weather at this specifically on some of the talking points we're going to hear today is about a wildfire forecasting and this is that some of the things they're doing at pg with using artificial intelligence to forecast better, accurate forecast. >> what we're able to do is with a lot of historical data that we collected on. not only the whether the fuel moistures. we also know where the catch of fires have happened in the past. we try to pinpoint it down, do exactly when and where they in the machine learning that artificial intelligence algorithm to then tease out what parameters most predictive of the future currents of catastrophic wildfires. so that goes into our model, which we then use it to determine who's in scope
