[ laughs ] i feel -- i feel great. >> announcer: and you can start feeling great again, too, without harmful side effects and without painful surgery. today, you're going to find out what the prostate is, what it does, why it causes so many problems for so many men, and what you can finally do about it simply, easily, and safely. this is dr. larry may. he received his medical degree from harvard, is a faculty member at ucla school of medicine, and is listed in this book -- "the best doctors in america."
12:33 am
he's helped thousands reverse and control the problem of an enlarged prostate. today, he'll help you. >> dr. may, the numbers -- they're unbelievable. half the men over 50 in this country -- that's 30 million men suffering from an enlarged prostate? >> barbara, that's right. every man has a prostate, and as surely as their hair is going to turn gray, that prostate is going to enlarge. and by the age of 70, 80% of men will have problems. as men age, testosterone, the male hormone, is converted to dihydrotestosterone, much more potent variety, and it stimulates the prostate cells to grow and multiply and the prostate to enlarge. >> what kind of problems does that cause? >> a weak stream, hesitancy, stopping and starting, urgency, frequency, getting up frequently at night to urinate, ultimately pain, and sexual dysfunction. >> and virtually every man is gonna face this? >> every man has a prostate, and if a man lives long enough, they're going to experience symptoms. >> let's back up just a minute.
12:34 am
what is the prostate and why the problem? >> the only function of the prostate is it provides fluid to transport the sperm. but just like in real estate, location is everything. and the problem is the location of the prostate. here's the prostate located just below the bladder, which is where the urine accumulates and then flows through this tube called the urethra. the prostate surrounds the urethra. and as it enlarges, it squeezes the urethra, slowing the flow of urine much like you can see in an hour glass. the sand flows through just like the urine flowing through the urethra. and the prostate surrounds it, slowing the flow and ultimately stopping it. and a doctor can help, because a doctor performs an exam we call a digital rectal exam, and he can feel the prostate and say, "hey, your prostate's getting a little big." but unfortunately, that usually doesn't occur until the 50s, and the growth of the prostate may begin in the 30s. and unless the symptoms are now debilitating, the doctor may not
12:35 am
offer any treatment other than to rule out a serious disease. to wait until your life revolves around the bathroom where you lose your sex life is no life at all. >> and then it back to the doctor. >> back to the doctor for drug treatment -- prescription medications which may relieve the symptoms, but often the side effects are worse -- decreased libido and even impotence. plus, the prostate can continue to grow. ultimately, there's surgery. >> but at least the problems go away, right? >> yes and no. there are many types of surgeries, and they each have their own problems and side effects, and often they need to be repeated. there's the gold standard -- what we call a turp or a transurethral resection of the prostate. for this, we use an instrument known as a resectoscope. >> that looks scary. >> it is. and it's a 12-inch instrument that you introduce through the penis into the area where the prostate is, and then you scrape away the prostate -- scrape it away in order to create a new opening. it's painful.
12:36 am
it's bloody. it requires a hospitalization, but patients submit to it because, untreated, the enlarged prostate can damage the bladder, cause renal failure, lead to infection, or ultimately obstruct urine flow completely. >> but there's something that can help. >> this is prosvent. it contains natural substances and minerals which have been shown in study after study involving thousands of patients to reduce the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, promoting prostate health and returning men to a normal existence in less than 30 days. >> i love driving a school bus. i love the kids. but you got kids on the bus, you can't just, "you got to go, you got to go." you can't. and i thought i was gonna have to give up driving the school bus. and so when this thing came about, i figured, "this is something i want to try," and it worked. it worked within a week. you know, not having to worry about running to a bathroom is unbelievable. it's kind of changed my life to what it used to be. it's better than great, because it's made a big difference in my life.
12:37 am
>> i'm surprised it worked, and i'm surprised in worked so quickly. because within a week and a half, i was doing fine after that. i wasn't going to the bathroom during the night. >> i mean, sometimes you have the urge to go to the bathroom, and you stand there, and nothing's coming out, and then when it finally comes out, it trickles out. well, now, after taking the pill, i've noticed that i go less frequently, and when i do have to go, it just comes out. boom, right back to bed. >> what's in this? >> it's the most comprehensive formula that's ever been developed. it contains stinging nettle. this herb has been used for years for prostate and urinary problems, even for the relief of pain from urinary-tract infections. it's especially helpful in relieving frequent urination, particularly overnight. beta-sitosterol, also found to reduce frequency and urgency. pumpkin-seed oil contributes additional sterols. plus, it contains pygeum africanum, and saw palmetto. acting together in concert, they inhibit prostate enlargement, reduce frequent overnight
12:38 am
urination, and dramatically improve urinary flow. lycopene, a nutrient antioxidant that's derived from tomatoes, and then there's vitamin d and zinc, which help contribute to overall prostate health. i have never seen a combination of ingredients together in a formulation that is so effective at eliminating the debilitating symptoms. >> very happy to be able to be normal again. i did think of it as an old man's problem. for me to have it at 40 instead of 60, um...was a little alarming. after the first week, i noticed that i didn't have to stop what i was doing at work. i could continue working. this is wonderful stuff, remarkable stuff. i wish someone had told me about it sooner. >> i went from three to four times a night to once a night getting up. it's a good product, and it works. >> i've been getting up, like, two, three times a night, sometimes four times a night to run to the bathroom, dire

urgency to get there, and then, you know, nothing much happens. before i knew it, i was waking up once, and then a couple weeks later, a few weeks later, a whole night's sleep! wow! how wonderful! >> i want every man watching right now to answer these questions. in the last month, have you had the sensation of not emptying your bladder completely? do you urinate less than two hours after you've just finished? do you start and stop several times while urinating? do you have a weak urine stream? when you have to go, do you feel an urgency like you might have an accident? do you strain or push? and finally, do you get up two or more times a night? if you answer "yes" to any of these questions, you may already have an enlarged prostate. and if you've answered "yes" to more than one, you've got to do something about it now. >> and prosvent can help? >> prosvent can absolutely help, and it does it without side

effects. prescription drugs can help, but they do it with side effects that may diminish your sex life. and surgery, while it can sometimes help, can be bloody, dangerous, and often has to be repeated. >> how long till they start seeing changes? >> many men will see changes within two weeks, but most will experience benefits within 30 days. >> if you or someone you love suffers from the symptoms of an enlarged prostate -- frequent urination, urgency, hesitancy, reduced flow, pushing or straining, pain, or diminished sex drive -- pick up the phone now. get your life back. >> announcer: do you or someone you love make too many trips to the bathroom... suffer from urgency that is hard to control... have a weak stream or find it difficult to start and stop? do you get up more than once a night... or find it next to impossible to sit through a movie? worse yet, is a diminished sex

days. all you pay is shipping and processing. >> so, it's pretty obvious that men should start using prosvent way before symptoms start to appear. >> absolutely. because the prostate begins to grow long before symptoms. here's our normal walnut-sized prostate in the 20s. no symptoms. by the 30s, there's often enlargement occurring, but still no symptoms. by the 40s and 50s, the enlargement continues, but now symptoms begin to occur. the prostate squeezes the urethra, slows the urine, ultimately stopping the urine flow. >> recently, i sat with a group of men who've been experiencing some of those symptoms. talked in a group. time they'd >> i can't remember the last night i didn't have to get up four or five times. i mean, i was saying it to myself just two or three nigs ago. goes out." >> are we that stupid? or that embarrassed over something that we shouldn't be embarrassed about? >> yes. >> yeah. >> i think so. >> i think embarrassed and living in denial. >> we notice these changes so subtly that they don't really register, and that's why we always become aware of a problem when it's too late. >> truth is that now i start mentioning it to my friends. i go up to guys, and, you know, when i'm standing at the urinal and there's a guy standing next to me and he's slower than i am, i ask him how long his prostate's been enlarged. [ laughter ] and he doesn't know what the hell i'm talking about. >> it's a great pick-up line. absolutely. >> in the john. they love me for that. [ laughter ] what happened when you started taking prosvent? >> it probably took, you know, maybe 2 weeks -- 10 days to 2 weeks before i really started knowing. instead of three times a night, i might get up once now. and i had one or two nights where i didn't get up at all. i was, like, shocked. i mean, i hadn't slept through an entire night in maybe 10 years. i like it. i'm taking it. >> i am very happy. i'm thrilled bond compare. i mean, i take the stuff, and, hey, i'll sleep all night long.

1:02 am
natural supplement that's helping me and women around the globe regain control, confidence, and peace of mind. - with better bladder, my life has changed tremendously. i'm able to be active with the kids. i'm going to my exercise classes and not feel like i have to run to the restroom. - i just love it, i can be myself, i can relax. i can laugh and not worry about if i have a spare pair of pants. - and one point in time, my bladder was running my life. but now, i'm completely in control of my own life. - [announcer] better bladder's natural formula has been clinically shown to improve all the major symptoms of a weak or unpredictable bladder. in a clinical study, 90% of participants reported reduced visits to the bathroom and fewer leaks or accidents. best of all, many saw results in as little as two weeks. today you'll meet dr. michael hyman, a board-certified physician trained at cornell medical school. he is chief of urology at providence st. joseph
1:03 am
medical center and a leading expert on the subject of bladder control. now, join dr. hyman and your host, suzanne setta. - hello and welcome to another edition of restore health naturally. today we're gonna be talking about the challenges of living with a weak and unpredictable bladder. and to help us discuss this very important topic is dr. michael hyman who specializes in these issues. dr. hyman, thank you for being with us today. - thank you for having me, suzanne. - i was actually surprised to find out how common a weak bladder really is. i understand 33 million americans suffer from this. - yeah, and honestly it could be more because so many of these people are embarrassed. they don't want to talk about it. probably every five people you know, one of them has this problem, and if you think about elderly folks, half of them probably have this problem. - that's a lot. well tell us, what are the early signs that you might actually have a weak bladder? - the first sign is probably gonna be urgency. that's that sudden, intense need to go to the bathroom
1:04 am
like right now, worried something terrible's gonna happen. frequency of urination is another sign of a weak or poorly-controlled bladder. that's when you have to go to the bathroom often. like a woman who i can think of who was a waitress, and she would go sometimes every 15, 20 minutes. she couldn't keep her job. - well that's no good. that's awful, as a matter of fact. and they're talking about going during the day. what about at night? because i gotta tell you, once a while, i get up. - [michael] if you're getting up three, four times a night, and you multiply that by 365 days a year that's 1,000 trips to the bathroom. - that's a lot. and people don't like to talk about it because it's embarrassing. - right, right. it's so embarrassing especially when you think about people who have accidents. whether they're coughing or sneezing, or the urgency to get to the bathroom so badly, that you start having an accident. i had a patient once, calling me in tears. a poor woman with her children at disneyland. she couldn't stay in line with her kids because the urge was so intense. so was gonna have an accident, so she spent the day in the infirmary.
1:05 am
it could be because the urge is too strong or because they're coughing or sneezing, but those accidents, that's catastrophic. - so tell us, what are some options for treatment? - until recently, you would start with drugs and then it was going to surgery options. the drugs come with some really uncomfortable side effects, including constipation, dry mouth, dry skin, dry eyes, and upset stomach. some are even linked to causing dementia. because of these serious, severe side effects, and because you basically have to take these drugs indefinitely, the vast majority of people taking them will stop after just a month or two. think about that. people would rather deal with leaks and diapers than deal with side effects of medications. - well then, if not drugs, you would try surgery? - surgery is the final option for us. and it could start with some kind of a procedure in the office, but it's not an easy thing to go through. we have to put a camera into the bladder,
1:06 am
make injections into the bladder muscle, and if that didn't work, we would switch to something called a pacemaker. - oh my gosh. - really, suzanne, the lack of a safe and effective product, one that people will stick with, it's what drove me to search for an alternative that i could actually recommend to my patients. i looked at several natural supplements, but none really made that much of a difference. then i came across a very impressive study in the medical literature on a natural supplement called better bladder. it was helping people in ways i'd never seen before in my 20 years a board-certified urologist. it was really a game-changer. - after better bladder, i don't have that pressure on my bladder anymore. i don't have the sensation that i have to go now. - now that i'm taking better bladder, i'm getting better sleep without rising four, five times in the middle of the night. and during the day at work.
1:07 am
one time, 11 o'clock, that's it. - it works. it was like having a to-do list of everything that was wrong and better bladder made me feel like i just crossed everything off that list, and i don't have to worry anymore. - well dr. hyman, i know that you were very impressed with the science behind better bladder, so tell us specifically what you found. - suzanne, the first thing i do before i recommend any product is to see if there are any clinical studies supporting its effectiveness. if not, well, it's a nonstarter for me. not only did better bladder have a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, the results were far more impressive than i would have ever expected. 86% saw a reduction of urgency. 84% of them had fewer trips to the bathroom at night. 90% went fewer times during the day and almost 94% saw a reduction in those awful leaks and accidents, and best of all, results were seen in as little as two weeks. - it is really exciting to find that kind
1:08 am
of substantiation behind the results for a natural product. is that what won you over? - not entirely. i wanted to see how better bladder was gonna work in my own patients. so i gave it to them. and what i saw was very impressive. it validated everything i read in that study. that's why better bladder is now my first option for helping people with these problems, and that's why i'm here today. - it wasn't enough for you to help your patients. you wanted to get the word out to help everyone. - therabotanics, the company behind better bladder, developed an amazing breakthrough for everyone suffering from these bladder issues. - there are a lot of conditions that people experience that aren't diseases. they're not illnesses that can be cured by science. but which nature has provided simple solutions, simple things that can help us live a healthier,
1:09 am
more fulfilling life. and those are the type of products that we offer at therabotanics. - i used to have to go to the bathroom every 20 minutes, with a degree of urgency i no longer feel. i now can go three, four, and i have gone five hours without stopping to use the restroom. - better bladder allowed me to gain control of my bladder. as a result, i get my life back. - i never have leakage, i never not make it to the bathroom. i always have dry panties, something that i haven't experienced in a long time. - dr. hyman, we've established that this is a really common problem, and one that really negatively affects a person's life. so tell us how this happens, what causes this? - sure, well, suzanne, let's start with the basics. this is a model of the bladder. it's like a hollow ball with thin walls of muscle. now the bladder is a very functional muscle,
1:10 am
and it's activated by our nervous system. as your bladder fills, it's also stretching, and it's the stretching that tells your brain it's time to go to the bathroom. only then, at that specific moment, when your bladder begins to contract does urine come out, and that is normal bladder activity. a calm, quiet, tranquil bladder that remains at rest the vast majority of the time. now sometimes, when it because agitated, it contracts when it is not supposed to. that is what i like to call an irritable bladder. and when your bladder becomes irritable or agitated, you might start thinking about going to the bathroom even when your bladder's only partly full. or it could be even more urgent. i don't care if i miss the movie, i gotta go. and it can become so strong that you actually, omg, i'm leaking. - well how does better bladder help this? - better bladder has three key herbal ingredients
1:11 am
to help calm and relax the bladder muscle which reduces this agitated or irritable state, and the result is less leakage, less urgency, and fewer trips to the bathroom. to be able to get these results as a natural alternative to prescription drugs and their terrible side effects, it's a tremendous breakthrough. - therabotanics has been kind enough to put together a special offer just for our viewers. details are coming ahead. - i've tried the kegel exercises. i've gone to a doctor. they have pharmaceutical drugs which i'm not really into. i tried wearing the little things, the diaper thing, which i hate. i'm a jogger and i can't do it. i'm frustrated, i'm really frustrated. i want back my freedom. i want back the ability to do all the things i really wanna do. i was going to the bathroom all the time. at night, during the day, and it interrupted my life. but now that i've been taking better bladder, i'd have to say i hardly even think about it.
1:12 am
i don't feel the urgency to have to go, and it doesn't interrupt my life or take over my life anymore. now i'm back to jogging, running, and feel confident, and doing all the things i love to do now. - [announcer] does your life revolve around frequent trips to the bathroom? are embarrassing leaks interfering with your life? are you afraid that a sudden cough or sneeze will cause an accident? is your bladder out of control? if you answered yes to any of these questions, then you're likely one of the 33,000,000 men and women suffering from the symptoms of a weak or unpredictable bladder. until now, you had three choices. take prescription drugs with unpleasant side effects, endure expensive and painful surgeries and procedures, or wear bulky and inconvenient adult diapers. now there's a new alternative, better bladder, the doctor-developed natural formula to help both men and women control the major symptoms of a weak and unpredictable bladder.
1:13 am
in a placebo-controlled clinical study, almost 86% saw a reduction in the urge to go, 84% made fewer trips to the bathroom during the night, 90% went fewer times during the day, and almost 94% saw a reduction in those dreaded leaks and accidents. best of all, many saw results in as a little as two weeks. - we're going out to the movies. and i sat through the entire movie. - before i used to have to worry about yoga. just have to worry about leaks, and now i don't, so it's worth it. - [announcer] better bladder is a patented combination of natural herbal ingredients in an easy-to-swallow capsule shown to reduce the symptoms of an unpredictable bladder with no harmful side effects. it contains crateva nurvala to help with age-related changes to the bladder, horsetail, known to help with the ability to control urination, and lindera, a powerful antioxidant to support the nerves and bladder muscles. these ingredients all work together to give you greater control over when and how often you need to go to the bathroom.

and better bladder is manufactured by trusted therabotanics. - when you buy a product from therabotanics, i personally guarantee that there's real science, a real placebo-controlled study that shows that that product is gonna be effective for what you want it to do. - [announcer] what would it be worth to you to regain the confidence and peace of mind that comes from a bladder under your control? surgeries, prescriptions, or even adult diapers could cost you from hundreds to thousands of dollars. but better bladder won't cost you even $100, not even close. a full two month's supply of better bladder is only $39.95 per month, but it won't cost you that today either because through this special tv offer, you can experience the power of better bladder free for 30 days. that's right, free. you only pay shipping and processing. you'll also receive doctor's secrets to a better bladder, with valuable tips and information for anyone living with a weak bladder.

(upbeat music) - we're back with dr. michael hyman,
1:16 am
a board-certified physician, chief urologist, and a leading expert on the subject of bladder control. so doctor, tell us, why is loss of bladder control so common? - as a result of the normal aging process, our bladders and the nerves for our bladders are subjected to all kinds of changes throughout life. let's pretend that this is a man's bladder. in some men, the bladder muscle has to strain to push urine out through an enlarged prostate, so the bladder muscle changes over time. and eventually, it's gonna look something like this. and that bladder will start acting inappropriately. and it will start having contractions even when it's not supposed to. - and so that's what can happen to a man's bladder. what about a woman's? - the women are a little more complicated. women go through profound physiologic changes throughout their life from the beginning of menstruation to pregnancy to menopause. let's just take this model and pretend it's a pregnant woman.
1:17 am
this is her pelvic floor, okay? and the baby's growing, and it's pushing down on the bladder and the pelvic floor. well the nerves are going through the pelvic floor, so those nerves are gonna also get stretched and go through changes. so now you have nerves that are stretched and displaced, and the result can be, oh, in the simplest terms, mixed signals. and these mixed signals can result in bladder agitation that starts to release urine. and this can happen at rest, or when you're coughing or sneezing, laughing or lifting. - i'm a mom, i have seven children. and they're 12, 11, nine, seven, six, four, and two. i think have that. (laughs) i do remember sitting on the floor with my kids and kind of sit like indian style to help them to sit good, and then realizing, oh, mommy's leaking. i am very physical, when i do yoga and stuff, there's certain positions that you go in, that's where sometimes i notice, oh,
1:18 am
i'm in control except for one area. so now i'm down to zero leaks, which means everything. and i take better bladder, it's like one less issue. i can just leave the house, bring an extra pair of pants for the three-year-old and not for the 44-year-old. now i can take the kids for a walk, read them a story at night, and sit in my yoga class in any position and then at night, be with my husband, laugh at his jokes, and not worry about, oh am i gonna leak? no, i made the whole day because of better bladder. - while pregnant, i always had to go because my son was sitting on my bladder. but after i had my son, it didn't really go away. now that i have been taking better bladder, i feel like that i don't have to go as urgent and quickly. i am so grateful that i did find better bladder to help with my urgency issues. i'm so thrilled. - i understand that 25% of reproductive-age women actually suffer from some kind of loss of bladder control.
1:19 am
now that's a lot of young women. what about men? - well men, it's an equal opportunity problem. it affects men and women pretty much equally. all those guys out there who think that it's their prostate causing these problems, think again. about half of those guys who have those symptoms, it's really because of their bladders. - my bladder is running my life. i'm constantly thinking about it, everyday, all day. and night time is the worst. because you usually sleep through through the night. but now i'm going to the bathroom. i may go one time, but now i'm going maybe four. i coach little league baseball right now. and we have breaks before practice. so you know, i can't say, coach is going to the bathroom after i told them we only taking one, two potty breaks. that part, there again, it plays into ego again, as a man. and how do i handle this? what am i gonna do about it? taking better bladder, i had an aha moment. that's what i call it. i woke up and i'm thinking, oh, i didn't wake up all night.
1:20 am
even my wife notices. she says, oh, i'm getting a little bit more sleep now that you're getting more sleep. it's amazing. my lifestyle has changed quite a bit. i'm able to stay in practice a lot longer when i'm working with the children, and just being a lot more confident in me having the situation under control. going out to eat or sitting through meals or when we're with friends, not having to excuse myself. you know, to go to the bathroom, so it's been a life-changing situation for me. - so doctor, what is it that makes better bladder so effective? - better bladder offers a combination of three herbs that have been traditionally used for centuries. the first of which is crateva nurvala, a bark that helps reduce inflammation and has natural calming properties that may help with those age related changes to the bladder muscle. then we have an extract from the horsetail plant. horsetail is a grass that is generally known
1:21 am
to help regulate the bladder muscle and help with the ability to control urination. finally, this is lindera, a root that's a very potent antioxidant. it has a long history of use in both japan and china, and was included in better bladder to support the nerves as well as the bladder muscle. together, these three herbs help to calm an irritable bladder, and produce the results we've been talking about today. - oh wow, that is really incredible that these three herbs can make such a difference in people and help them avoid surgery potentially or medications, and actually save them from embarrassment. - god bless mother nature for coming up with something like this that's really gonna change people's lives. - [announcer] what would it be worth to you to regain the confidence and peace of mind that comes from a bladder under your control? surgeries, prescriptions, or even adult diapers could cost you from hundreds to thousands of dollars. but better bladder won't cost you even $100, not even close.
1:22 am
a full two month's supply of better bladder is only $39.95 per month, but it won't cost you that today either because through this special tv offer, you can experience the power of better bladder free for 30 days. that's right, free. you only pay shipping and processing. you'll also receive doctor's secrets to a better bladder, with valuable tips and information for anyone living with a weak bladder. plus a free 30-day supply of therabotanics' perfect omega. just one perfect omega has the power of three ordinary fish oil supplements. a $60 total value, they're both yours free with your order today. try better bladder for a full 30 days. if it doesn't help rude the urge to go, how often you go, and those dreaded leaks and accidents, simply return the unused portion and your credit card will not be charged. but please, keep the bladder secrets and perfect omega as our free gift to you. - it's a success story for me. it's something i plan on taking for the rest of my life.
1:23 am
- with better bladder, i'm making it to the bathroom every time with no surprises. - [announcer] now, sleep peacefully through the night, sit through an entire movie, enjoy an exercise class or a drive without worrying about the next rest stop. (upbeat music) - i was beginning to have these nasty smells that were so offensive, and i thought, everybody can smell. i mean, i'm around people all the time at work. i'm at that level when i'm walking up and down the aisle, and people are just right there. you know, close quarters and it's just really nice to not smell bad. - i am having a better experience in my relationship because when i go out to a nice event, a dinner, a party,
1:24 am
i'm not always the one absent from the room 'cause i've gotta go to the restroom. - before better bladder i was doing kegels and limiting my water intake. it's just so bad for your health. and now i probably 10 to 12 glasses of water a day. forget the kegels, i won't do them anymore. (upbeat music) - we're back and we're talking with dr. michael hyman. i wanna talk about the clinical testing. i've seen the most recent results, and i gotta say, they are super impressive. and one of the things that it does point out is the participants experience a reduction in stress-induced leakage. but explain to us what that is exactly. - it's when somebody is having that cough or that sneeze or that laugh and it's basically gonna set off that irritable bladder situation, and they're gonna push their legs together and try to control that urine from coming out. it can happen in men, too, having those accidents. and better bladder can help.
1:25 am
