your monday morning. so just cold nights until we get back to that weather pattern later on into this upcoming week today. sunny and cool, mostly 50's but also a couple low 60's. stephanie. all right, john, thank you. >> with the big game just hours away, says a mayor matt mahan is in new orleans taking notes on how the south bay can make the most of next year when it hosts both the super bowl and the world cup at levi stadium. cowboys jack moment caught up with the mayor. >> well, the city of new orleans prepares for the big game. and as a mayor, matt mahan is also in the city already thinking about next year when the super bowl is hosted at levi stadium. we're looking at security fan activations wayfinding. how people experience the event he's in new orleans on behalf of the bay area host committee. >> taking on the reins from new orleans once the big game is over, levi's will be the site of super bowl. 60 and multiple fifa world cup games in 2026. game itself is 3

hours. but the event is more like 3 or 4 days. that means getting the city of san jose and greater bay area ready for the festivities and highlighting the things that make the bay area. you need stone's throw from nvidia medha apple waymo's increasingly a way that people are getting around without having to own a car. these are the kinds of things we should be showing off. and i think we will be as we welcome the world to san jose and the rest of the bay area next year with about a year left to go until the super bowl comes to the bay area. specifically silicon valley, many business owners here in saint peter's square in san jose say they hope within this next year. they hope to see a whole lot more foot traffic. >> we're starting to think a little bit of a bit. you know, since the super bowl this weekend, a little bit of a buzz people talking about next year, bob, seen as the head chef at district of saint peter's square and and says he would like to see more customers throughout this year. >> before 2 of the largest

exchange reports from the associated the cease-fire is fragile and its extension is not guaranteed. the san francisco fire department rescue 2 swimmers from the san francisco bay. fire crews say it happened between alcatraz island pier 45 the san francisco police department's marine unit also responded. it's not known what led to the incident of the latest conditions of the rescued people. in the east bay to emeryville. alcohol shops failed a d coy test to see if they would sell to minors. the operation involved minors under the supervision of the state department of alcoholic beverage control. some decoys carried no id while others did reminder, businesses selling alcohol to minors face a $250 fine and up to 32 hours of community service mayor daniel lurie is increasing police presence in the downtown san francisco area. it's part of a new initiative. he calls a hospitality task force. the mayor says it will kick start the economy and make downtown

safer. lori says the task force will primarily focus on areas around the moscone convention center. it reported gardens and union square. the patrols will work with local businesses and hotels. the task force will be an important part of our public safety plan for next week when we have the lunar new year parade and we have nba all-star weekend. >> but let's be clear. it's going to continue after that. every single day, the hospitality zone task force will provide residents and visitors with the security. they deserve 365 days. a year. >> the signs that a secure downtown attract more visitors, create additional jobs and boost the economy. new numbers from partial a decrease in crime last year. the agency says overall crime dropped almost 20% with violent crime drop in more than 10% compared to 2023, bart says auto thefts and

property crimes on the trains also fell. alameda county this week passed an ordinance to protect renters from no-fault evictions is designed to provide more protcction for renters in unincorporated areas. under the ordinance, landlords must pay renters. who are evicted for no fault of their own 2 months. rent landlords must also give 90 day notice is if someone in the household is younger than 18, disabled, elderly or lower income will lewis cannot retaliate against tenants were reported housing violations to the county. the ordinance goes into effect march 6. francisco park officials kicked off a sand dune replanting project at ocean beach on saturday. the project in to restore the health of the beaches, ecosystem, improve biodiversity and protecting native species. some 100 volunteers help to replant native grass near the intersection of judah street and the great highway. kron four's honoring black history month. san jose police among the agencies marking the moment at the city's special ceremony. these are images

>> the recent storms but brought much-needed snow to california's high country. live look right now at this year. you can see a bit of a dusting out there and some cars moving carefully along the roadways reporter center could spoke with some tahoe area ski and snowboard businesses who say this is all but a boost. this latest winter weather has brought fresh powder to the sierra. >> and for a local ski and snowboard businesses like the one behind me, they're seeing a surge in customers. >> just a few weeks ago, the ski shops were much quieter as the lack of early season. snow kept many people away. but now with fresh powder in the sierra customers are rushing

in to get ready for the slopes. snow always comes might not come on. you want to but it comes. the snow always comes. morgan tatman with land park ski in sports. fans the late start isn't a bad thing for business. just means an extended late season. currently business is very good, very in this past current storm that we just had this spring, a lot of customers into the store. >> and just getting ready for that next wave of snow. we've gotten a little more snow coming. so we're really excited about that for this shop. it's not just about the rush to grab gear. >> it's also about the personal experience of shopping locally, shopping, local and the stand age is very important and the benefits you can try on the equipment child, the boots try on the pants subjects ordering online. >> which is convenient. but not necessarily that personal touch that you might be looking with more storms in the forecast. shop owners say they expect another wave of customers. >> looking to make up for lost

time on the slopes across town at helm of fun valley. eric, says they've seen an increase in customers since the storms rolled in and their team is ready. people are absolutely excited. people are looking to get geared up for everything and >> you know, a lot of people don't really know what you know, they're kind of tend to look for. so that's what we're here for. he says the unpredictable weather always plays a role in business. but the latest snowfall has created a rush to the shops are definitely a business that is, you know, really determined by the weather and that, you know, changes all the time seasons changing. really. it's kind of just riding out people's momentum and just seeing where they're at. and i'm truly blessed when it comes to working with people. >> 7.15, that snow up in the sierras. such a good thing to have seen the past couple of weeks. we well january, it was when we didn't see any of it. but february has really done some makeup work so far in especially in the bay area to from the sierra to the

coastline. you can see just how crystal clear it is out here in half moon bay this morning youve got those same bluebird skies up in the sierra for yet another day to day. and it was an easy travel day getting up there yesterday after that thursday, heavy snowfall for them. we do have frost advisories and freeze warnings. these freeze warnings in the deeper blue are actually in effect for even more the bay area than they were yesterday. all of the in the north bay, all of the inland east bay in the south bay, too. it is very cold out there with a lot of us below freezing in tonight we'll dive into frost advisory and freeze warning territory all over again with such clear skies overhead, relatively still air too. those clear, calm evenings tend to be some of our coldest. and we've got several more of those ahead of us before we work our way back into a wetter pattern, which really doesn't arrive until the middle of week next week. it's going to kick off late tuesday night for a few couple sprinkles here across the bay area after what will have been dry weather up to that point. once we make our way on into

wednesday morning itself, do expect some isolated showers here and there potential of afternoon drying before thursday. now thursday is going to be our greatest push of heavier rainfall and for that matter, some really heavy snowfall in the sierra to. so you know that everyone's going to be wanting to get up there enjoying that powder again into the following weekend. we do see some pretty active weather into friday morning before we generally dry out to saturday does look like another system pushes in into monday of next week to so this monday's good next monday, maybe not so much as we just continue this wet active pattern, which is something we need in february after that dry january 50's for most of us today, although couple 60's on the map, especially for the north bay, gorgeous day in napa at 61 tonight is going to be another cold one. santa rosa. you'll fall below freezing again. just like you're at right now. oakland in fremont down into the 30's again tonight. temperatures

the next 7 days. not a lot of change. it's pretty much the 50's all the way through today. tomorrow, all that sunshine tuesday, you'll start to see an increasing clouds tuesday night into wednesday morning. a few isolated showers with more rain on thursday. stephanie. john, thank you. in washington talks on the current spending bill are stalled after president donald trump's efforts to slash federal spending and its workforce. >> the current stopgap measure last through march 14th after that without congressional action, there would be a partial government shutdown. republicans accusing democrats of walking away from negotiations democrats claim they're not hearing back from republicans. both sides also disagree about a 2023 agreement with then president biden that would increase spending this budget year for both defense and non-defense measures. in the east bay. the city of fremont is set to vote on a new ordinance that would make it illegal to camp on any street or other public area. and in a first for the state of california, ordinance would

also make anyone, quote, causing aiding or abetting and encampment guilty of a misdemeanor. those found guilty could be fined $1000 or spend 6 months in jail. that vote is set for tuesday. homeless advocates worry this could negatively impact unhoused people and the workers that are providing aid. some call residents are raising concerns over a city council decision to reexamine a rent stabilization ordinance this comes nearly a month earlier than planned. ordinance has been in effect for about 10 months. some residents say there's no reason to revisit this ordinance. fact that it took 8 years. >> 8 years of hundreds of stories year after year month after money know all of this year's for them to finally pass something protections for tenants. it just it's really concerning that it only it's hasn't even been a year and they just want to take this protection that way. we

>> and tsb salvage crews recovered the military helicopter involved in the midair collision with a passenger jet over washington, d.c., 67 people were killed. the helicopter was on a training mission when the crash happened with the american airlines plane. all black boxes have been recovered as crews search for answers on what led up to the crash. this marked the deadliest air disaster in the u.s. since 2001. the wreckage

of a small commuter plane that went missing in alaska has been found. sadly, we've learned all 10 people aboard died. the cessna disappeared on thursday. it was traveling from buena luckly to nome. the wreckage was found 12 miles offshore on sea ice. the remains of all 10 people have been recovered. crews continue work on recovering the aircraft. officials point to snow and fog as possible factors in the crash. and if you are watching the big game at home, their super bowl feast is going to cost you overall. wells fargo estimates the cost of food and drinks to feed 10 people will be around $139. fargo says as just $0.10 more than last year. but several big game staples have seen a large increase in price. for example, the price of raw chicken aches or whether she can wings has gone up more than 7%. here is up about 2% and frozen pizza into a key. let's ships, meantime, have seen a slight dip in prices. still ahead on the

better regulated community members rallying and expressing their confusion and anger with signs reading this this is shameful. >> and this truck poisoned us. this comes all after the january 16th, lithium battery caused fire at the moss landing power plant. the fire was ignited at the company history, energies, battery, energy storage system, their batteries >> and that's not the one hand. everybody 6 lane, goes up, comes that's why trying to find a cheryle. robinson lives in elkhorn, which is 3 miles down the road from the power plant. robinson says vistra energy has not responded to any of her calls or e-mails. >> the only thing offered to her and others was back in january. a gift card to help with displacement expenses after the fire. like a sorry

before you bring up fact that you know the group never again moss landing discussed health concerns caused by the fire. heather griffin, who's part of the group says community members have told her they've experienced respiratory issues and blood. he knows is she even has had her fair share of health issues. and i don't take any kind of medication at all. so there's no reason why should have let in my blood on top of having lithium in her blood. she has experienced mouth soreness and consisted metal taste. the local doctors don't really know what to test for because this is unprecedented. >> especially here in california. something of this magnitude. so everyone's sort of trying to figure it out day by day what to do. the cold. lot lives near moss landing and has filed a claim she witnessed the explosion at the power plant sounding like a tsunami but i getting in that. you weren't going out this on

landing road and lot says she didn't even get a gift can same the citizens group recently sent over 100 samples of surface testing to a local environmental company. >> the check with medals have been released from the fire. griffin says samples were collected from carmel deal, right? hollister, santa cruz and other immediate areas. we're not against green technology. i mean, we are all in for cleaning the environment and technology. we just wanted to be safe. >> in moss landing, lindsey ford kron, 4 news. the energy sent a statement to kron 4 responding to residents. concerns saying in part, quote, >> we remain committed to continue working with local officials, regulatory agencies and the public to ensure the safety of our neighbors and community. continuing to monitor the air on the plant site and in nearby in the nearby community. and no hazardous levels have been

detected. these findings have been confirmed by both the federal environmental protection agency and local public health officials. in san jose, a fire displaced 7 people yesterday in the early morning hours. it happened a woodland terrace. fire crews responded around 5 in the morning. they managed to put out the flames in 30 minutes and fortunately, no people were hurt, but sadly, a cat died in the fire. red cross of northern california says they're offering resources to the 7 people affected. and take a look at this. san jose police found a machete, guns and ammunition while searching a car friday. officers pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation on king road. and that's when they discovered the driver was on probation and a registered offender. the man was arrested on multiple charges. a man accused of causing a crash in santa rosa is behind bars. police say the collision happened near hamann going drive thursday night. officers say a witness reported seeing one of the drivers involved trying to flee the scene. officers tried to pull him over but he drove

off prompting a brief chase. he eventually surrendered and was arrested. over 2 million cases of baked goods are being recalled due to potential listeria contamination. the fda issued the recall in february 5th affecting 60 bakery products from f g f l c of brownsburg indiana. the recall includes items including doughnuts and cake rings with products distributed nationwide and in canada. listeria can cause serious health risks, especially for pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. the fda says the recall covers products with expiration dates up to december 13th 2024. san jose is partnering with more. pete u.s. in a private company to tackle the city's abandoned shopping cart issue. the city council voted to rehire or rather to hire a bit triple service to recover about 2000 carts each year. the program could be integrated into the city's 3, 1, one app allowing residents to report those abandoned carts. concerns were

violent crime dropping more than 10% compared to 2023, bart says auto thefts and property crimes on the trains also fell. alameda county this week passed an ordinance to protect renters from no-fault evictions. it's designed to provide more protection for renters in unincorporated areas. under the ordinance, landlords must pay renters. who are evicted for no fault of their own 2 months. rent landlords must also give 90 day notice is if someone in the household is younger than 18, disabled, elderly or lower income, landlords cannot retaliate against tenants were reporting housing violations to the county. the ordinance goes into effect march 6. temperatures go. park officials kicked off a sand dune replanting project at ocean beach saturday. the project aims to restore the health of the beaches, ecosystem, improve biodiversity and protect native species. some 100 volunteers helped to replant native grass near the intersection of judah street and the great highway. and

>> in washington talks on the current spending bill are stalled after president donald trump's efforts to slash federal spending and its workforce. the current stopped that measure last through march 14th after that without congressional action, there would be a partial government shutdown. republicans accusing democrats of walking away from negotiations. democrats claim they're not hearing back from republicans. the 2 sides also disagree about a 2023 agreement with then president biden that would increase spending this budget year for both defense and non-defense measures. in east bay. the city of fremont is set to vote on a new ordinance that would make it illegal to camp on any street or other public area. and in a first for the state of california, the ordinance would also make anyone causing aiding or abetting and encampment guilty of a misdemeanor. those found guilty could be fined $1000 or spend 6 months in jail. that vote is set for tuesday. most advocates worry this would negatively impact unhoused people and the aid workers providing critical services.

what some residents in concord are sounding the alarm after congress city council decided to reexamined a rent stabilization ordinance. this comes nearly a month earlier than planned. shocking residents and causing concern kron four's lezla gooden has more. >> fact that it took 8 years, 8 years of hundreds of stories. >> year after year, month after money, you know all of this year's for them to finally pass something protections for tenants. >> it just it's really concerning that it only it's hasn't even been a year and they just want to take this protection the way on tuesday, concord city council decided to review its rent stabilization and just cause eviction ordinance. >> it was set to be originally reviewed in march to have that information for february meeting, a move that renters of residents believe isn't just because the council >> could decide to get rid of the ordinance, which is only been in effect for 10 months.

resources to the 7 people affected. all right. take a look at this. jose police found a machete, guns and ammunition while searching a car friday. officers pulled over a car for a traffic violation on king road. and that's when they discovered the driver was on probation and a registered offender. the man was arrested on multiple charges. a man accused of causing a crash in santa rosa is behind bars. police say the collision happened near hama and we're going drive thursday night. officers say a witness reported seeing the man trying to flee the scene. officers tried to pull him over but he drove off prompting a brief chase. he eventually surrendered and was arrested. over 2 million cases of baked goods are being recalled due to a potential listeria contamination issue. the fda issued the recall on february 5th affecting 60 bakery products from fgf llc of brownsburg, indiana. the recall includes items such as donuts in cake rings with products distributed nationwide and in canada, the

weekend and she joins us live now this morning with a preview are so excited about this. maria, thank you for having me. of sister of tell us a little bit about you. how did you get started and how to get involved with san jose opera? >> yeah, well, i've been singing for a very long time since i was very, very started about 10 years old because my grandfather was an opera but my involvement with san jose started about 8 years ago. i didn't sing with the company for 8 years. so kind of in the beginning of my career. i started singing roles i've just continued to come back because i love it so much. so incredible. so how does it feel to be able to come back and perform with san jose with wonderful. there's so they're so supportive and helpful and it's a very, you know, relaxing place for me to come return and saying one year and tell us a bit about the role you're going to be playing in blue yeah. so i am the role of judith, which is the opera is called blue berets castle by

bella bar. talk and it is she has just married this mysterious blue beard. okay. i have pass all and there's all these rumors saying that he has murdered all his wives so good. she doesn't know that. okay for sure. i how does do navigate seacoast of the castle and she has 7 doors that she is trying to unlock. >> in his castle and each one of them reveal something, you know, mysterious, horrifying, a baby, a little, you know, and they're all kind of doors into his mind our his psyche well, but incredible story s unique and how how did you prepare for this rule? and you this was a more difficult role for me to prepare for, especially because it it. so musically complicated and it's

not my normal. all type per that i would normally sing. i sing a lot of italian opera, ok? and so i just got coach. i learned, you know, read through all the. >> we and everything like that just prepared with my coach for couple out. well, it is so impressive. we had the i know the stage crew here in the studio get a chance to preview some of that. and and here's some of your incredible singing. any advice for people who really want to get into the performing arts iq and just want to train to be a professional singer. the most important thing is i would say to find a great teacher because studying the craft and having somebody to mentor, you in the right direction is the most important thing and just to stay focused on the crafton. and if you really love it, i mean, nothing should stop. got it. and what was it about the role of june? if that really lead you to gravitate towards it was or

bart says auto theft, some property crimes on the trains also fell. alameda county this week passed an ordinance to protect renters from no-fault evictions. it's designed to provide more protection for renters in. live in unincorporated areas under the ordinance landlords must pay renters. who are evicted for no fault of their own 2 months. rent and landlords must also give 90 day notice is if someone in the household is younger than 18, disabled, elderly or lower income, landlords cannot retaliate against tenants for reporting housing violations to the county. the ordinance goes into effect march 6. san francisco park officials kicked off a sand dune replanting project at ocean beach saturday. the project in to restore the health of the beaches, ecosystem, improve biodiversity and protect native species. some 100 volunteers helped to replant native grass near the intersection of judah street and the great highway. >> and kron four's honoring black history month. san jose

long history of black, an api solidarity resistance enjoy with our community within the fillmore west addition, particularly with our connection with japan town. and so this event is another extension of that incredible legacy, wonderful and then cloudy. and how about for api heritage month celebration said that 20 years ago actually just use the 21st year and fence the month of may, every national nation on api having and it's american and pacific island. does. >> so we going to every event. and i think part of it aside from promoting asian and that ifas asian american and pacific island of culture, heritage. we just want to use this opportunity. also to embrace and include it and want to make sure that this is a celebration fall with everyone in the city. so thing in a time like this is so important when we have officials in washington, d.c., and talking about minimizing

and they're all kind of doors into his mind our his psyche. well, but when incredible story so unique and how how did you prepare for this rule? and you this was a more difficult role for me to prepare for, especially because it. it. so musically complicated and it's not my normal. all type per that i would normally sing. i sing a lot of italian opera, ok? and so i just got to coach. i learned, you know, read through all the. >> we and everything like that just prepared with my coach for couple out. well, it is so impressive. we had the i know the stage crew here in the studio get a chance to preview some of that. and and here's some of your incredible singing. any advice for people who really want to get into the performing arts iq and just want to train to be a professional the most important thing is i would say to find a great teacher
