>> is it 6? we with weather. >> if joining us for kron, 4 news at 6, i'm grant lotus and i'm vicki liviakis. we are tracking and intense storm. it's moving across the bay area tonight dumping rain and leaving behind issues like flooding, fallen trees and power outages. chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is with a standing by in the weather center. >> with a look at how things are going. lawrence point rough day around the bay area. dangers all around. that rain continues to fall, though, becoming more sporadic out there right now. >> bands of moisture still rotating off the pacific, though, rotating on in our direction. that will keep that rain going off and on as we head through the evening tonight. so gray skies out there. we've got some very windy conditions in spots. tremendous amounts of rain and dangerous conditions out there on the roadways. numer spinouts on local roads throughout the day today. the possibility of more ben lowman

santa cruz mountains as expected. some of the heaviest amounts of rain over 5 and a half inches of rain there. canfield over 4 inches of rain. ross, more on the east bay over 3 and a quarter. san bruno over 2 and a half inches of rain over 2 and a half inches. rain also in redwood city and even inside the bay usually kind rain shadow affected area sunnyvale over 2 inches of rain. that's pretty significant. it was not only the rain. it was the gusty winds to gust today at sfo. 62 miles per hour. oakland had a gust of 41 blackhawk to 53 miles an hour. richmond. 41 45 gusting to in san carlos, mount saint helene at augusta. 64 and the strongest gust i can find was right at our radar site in the santa cruz mountains mount a minute. they had a gust of 82 miles per hour or so. the storm was messing around. not done with us just yet. we've got flood watches continuing across the entire bay area as that rain. well as continue work its way down in many the crease in the streams or seeing some issues there you see that storm

system moving on through. still those bans of rain moving onshore. more to come throughout the night tonight, but slowly tapering off at thing into early tomorrow morning. that's the good news. the bad news is we're not done yet. so you can see some brief, heavy downpours, maybe even a thunderstorm or seen a pretty good cell now making its way near san francisco just to the south. and you're seeing that some move into the sunset. some heavier storms moving through right now. and so, yeah, daly city getting pounded hard by that system. a more on the way.,you can see that throughout the night tonight is flood advisories have been issued, expected flooding into parts of the east bay. now those flood advisories all the way until law. 12:00am now extended as you make your way in parts of the east bay and flood warnings as you make your way toward the north bay. we're seeing some of the creeks there, colgan creek, also green valley creek experience, some moderate flooding right now. those flood warnings in effect until 08:30pm, tonight. guys. that's a roadway. heavy rain is causing lots of

flooding issues in the south bay kron four's rob nesbitt reports now from saratoga. >> this is saratoga way that leads to the santa cruz mountains behind me. when you drive into the mountains, you'll see a lot of flooding in several trees down. >> thursday storm caused the uva's creek in gilroy to spill out over rent avenue. it was a common scene in the south bay with heavy rains and strong winds. that combination rought santa cruz mountains just outside of cupertino. keeping line crews busy according to pg e spokesperson, the south bay stephanie mag alone. we did see multiple areas damage locations. we had trees that were falling that fell over our lines at reprieve conductors. we also saw reports of underground vaults that were flooded. >> and that really played a big role in some of the outages that we saw this morning. >> at one point in the morning pg e was reporting 8,000 customers without power in the south bay. that number dropped to less than 2000 by noon

because of isolating technology. what that does is isolates locations that have. >> damage so that the rest of the community around they are able to go back online and then just a limited number of people will without power while we make a repair and restore in storms like this, there's often a chance of down trees, taking power lines down with them emergency situation that requires 9-1-1. if you come across a downed power line, make sure they stay away can be extremely dangerous. if you are without power use flashlights instead of candles. >> mag alone says if you are one of those customers still without power during the evening hours, make sure you have extra batteries for your flashlights. and if you're using a generator, do your using it correctly. reporting in saratoga, i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news. >> along the san mateo coast, the surf is expected to get even stronger tonight. officials calling for dangerous waves of around 30 feet along the coast, making it to unsafe to be out there

deploying of flood barriers. specifically. we're at 17th street in folsom street intersection, which is somewhere that generally has some flooding issues. barriers are monitored. 24 7 throughout the deployment period. and here in mateo county, flood watches still in effect until saturday evening. and these waves here on the pier. i expected to get higher during the storm to even reach up to 40 feet. pacifica public works are offering sandbag locations as well. sometimes when it rains real hard, the rain will kind of pileup in. >> like >> near the near the curb, you know, because the storm drains can't quite handle flow water on once. >> he spoke with one of the store managers here in pacifica who says they have some concerns because they are located in a very flat cell where can get extremely windy. a lot of tree branches falling over people's fences. get messed up when it's windy like this. >> i do worry a little bit because we're right here in the flats by the ocean. and, you know, if the tide gets real life, those waves really

wash up over the seawall. >> and officials are urging people to stay off the roads if you don't have to be. but you must be out here to drive slowly and use extreme caution pacifica level going kron. 4 news. >> the north bay getting a little bit of a break. actually this time around after being pummeled by last week's storms. yeah, there are some spots that flooded. certainly kron four's. dan kerman gives us a closer look. >> here in southern marin, it is what it is windy. and as a result, it is very cold and it's been difficult for drivers. roads are flooded. people driving too fast. all in all. definitely a day. not to be outside. >> in southern marin, drivers traveling along 101 were battling a driving rain for much of the day along the frontage shoreline. highway flooding created a small lake for cars to travel through. it got so bad that for part of the day, the northbound 101,

exit to stinson beach was closed because of flooding. winds were also a big part of the day court madera. the winds were whipping into a frenzy. trees were doing their best to stay in one place as we're fences. but the winds were not a bad thing for everyone case in point, this man who decided to windsor. >> it's taking advantage of the wind. it's a great, you know, if you look out there, you see really good strong, probably 20 to 30 mile an hour winds. it which is really nice. >> back on land storm drains were stretched to the max and in some cases overwhelmed by the water that led to more flooded roadways on a positive note, those exiting the freeway at them or in city x and found no flooding along donahue, thanks to this portable pump stations set up by the marin county flood control district. and let's not forget about our furry friends on the stormy day. >> well, those we didn't see were likely cuddled up under a warm blanket. these dogs were bothered by the storm and excited to run in the park. rain or shine.

>> during the afternoon we've seen the highway patrol on the freeway doing that 6 act move to slow traffic down. people are still going way too fast for these conditions. again, a driving rain really slick roads. really big win. so if you have to be on the road, make sure to take it extra safe. in marin county. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> in the east bay crews had to clear up a big tree that fell over. this is on pacheco boulevard between brown street in finney and way it looks like the tree fell on the sidewalk and then crashed through a wooden fence. fortunately, nobody was hurt. >> today we're continuing to track power outages across the bay area. as you can see, pretty widespread. this is the live map that pg e puts out. you have about 5400 customers in the bay area without power. the majority of them have been on the peninsula. you see a couple hot spots near pacifica and millbrae south bay north bay. more than 1000 outages

the person out. the word tonight on their condition. >> fallen trees are becoming more and more of an issue as this storm continues to march on through. get a look at this giant tree that fell in oakland. the fire department posting these photos of a tree that fell near skyline boulevard and grande rock way close to lake merritt. with that, we're going to send things on over to chief meteorologist lawrence karnow for a look at the forecast. yeah. ground so saturated now and so you get those strong winds and that saturated ground trees just toppled over around the bay area with the gusty winds and >> it has been a small win by any means. we've seen some of those gusts, 60, even 80 plus miles per hour or so. blustery out there. still not a strong, some of these storms that are rolling onshore still with the possibility of cranking up those winds again, dangerous out there on the roadways. i was out on today saw kelly 7 car accidents out. there are multiple vehicles involved in each it was just a mess out there on the roads. you got to really slow down. so he's a hydroplane. but the winds have

been whipping the high wind warning has just been lifted, along the coastline, but still some gusty winds all around. so wind advisories remain in effect until 10 o'clock in the morning. but these winds, boy, you go across. some of these bridges have been very dangerous than watching the golden gate bridge throughout the evening. how about that? a gust this last couple hours here? 48 49 miles an hour. you're going across that bridge and said you get hit by a gust like that. pretty dangerous out there, but it's all around. not just there all around the bay area. we're seeing some gusty winds out there. so be careful out there for tonight. and it looks like things will begin to taper off as we head in toward tomorrow morning. meantime, though, you do have these bands of rain that are moving on shore. you see one making its way through san francisco right now. you start to see some yellow orange. that's a stronger storm system coming through. maybe a thunderstorm trying to build there right now. a sliding on by, as you can see, these heavy downpours that's going to be on and off throughout the night tonight. in fact, you've got the whole system, the heavier part of the storm. the main cold front has moved on by now. now we're starting to see some cold air on the backside of the system and as it slides on through all of a sudden, we're going

to get that instability in that cold air behind it. all of a sudden you're going to see the storms rotating in and occasionally see some showers popping up as we head throughout the night tonight and early tomorrow morning. so if you're headed out the door, you got to be extra careful driving around the bay area for tonight. the rain likely to continue in fact, may pick up a little bit toward the late 8, 9 o'clock hour. once again, another band of moisture moves onshore. but overnight tonight, showers, there they go, rotating on in and then getting pick it up again. and then another band moving in just after midnight tonight. 2 o'clock in the morning. the good news is tomorrow morning. the commute doesn't look half as bad. a chance of a couple of scattered light showers but drying out after that, maybe some rainbows on your valentine's day. thanks alerts. we've new details tonight about that cyber truck crash that killed 3 college students. >> who are home for the holidays around thanksgiving. authorities say all 3 victims who died, 19 year-old store in dickson, 19 year-old christa and 20 year-old jack nelson were under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the crash. meanwhile. we

should note this happened the night before thanksgiving in piedmont. police say the cybertruck that dixon was driving jumped a curb, crashed into a tree and caught fire. the toxicology report says his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit and it notes he also had meth in his system. one passenger survived the crash, but police have not released their day. oakland council members are introducing an ordinance aimed at stopping several fire stations from staying closed. >> some city leaders are calling this lifesaving legislation. if approved, it would provide needed to funds to prevent additional station closures and it would allow temporarily closed stations to reopen. city leaders have been working to find all available money oakland city accounts and they worked with the fire department to address public concerns. could kamala harris to be california's next governor? that's a question a lot of people are asking. she has not said if she intends to

run, but a new exclusive poll shows if she does. >> as of right now she'd be the frontrunner kron four's capitol correspondent eytan wallace reports. >> she ran and lost the race for president in 2024. but could kamala harris run and win the race for california? governor in twenty-twenty 6 when gavin newsom is termed out. according to this new exclusive poll from emerson college and nexstar media. the answer is yes. the survey finding harris who has not said whether she plans to run for governor as of now would have 57% support among registered democrats. in a distant second democratic former u.s. senate candidate and former orange county congress member katie porter with 9% support porter to has yet to publicly say whether she's running and rounding out the top 5, each with less than 5% support. former los angeles mayor antonio villaraigosa, california lieutenant governor eleni kounalakis and former state assembly and senate

leader toni atkins, 70% of respondents meantime say they're undecided. i don't think this is a huge surprise. kamala harris obviously has huge name recognition in california. california is still a blue state loyola law school professor jessica levinson notes. california is also harris's home state where she served as attorney general and u.s. senator before her term as vice president. and so voters are familiar with her. >> as the senator as the vice president, and you just can not quantify the importance of her name recognition and there's nobody in the current field who has the statewide name recognition that harris does, but of harris does not run. the poll found porter as of now would have the strongest support. >> still in that scenario, 45% of respondents say they're undecided at hagley of emerson. college polling helped conduct a survey with harris out of the picture. i think that this is an open contest. on the issue is more

than 6 out of every 10 respondents said the state should spend more on firefighter staffing and equipment on immigration. 56% of respondents indicated mass deportations are a bad thing for the state. while 44% said they're a good thing. 54% meantime think california's high-speed rail is a good use of state funds. while 46% think it's not and as for our current governor, gavin newsom, among california voters from across the spectrum, the poll found he has 42% approval and 40% disapproval of president trump in the golden state has 37% approval and 53% disapproval. i think what we're seeing with respect to president trump's numbers in california a couple things. one is obviously california, still a blue state, california. did that not go for president trump? >> but there is a significant amount of support for him. and i think more than there used to be, obviously look at the national popular vote. look at the electoral college. they both went for president trump. look at what happened in the u.s. senate in congress.

people are voting for republicans right now. and speaking of republicans not included in the poll, riverside county, sheriff republican chad bianco. >> he has hinted in the past he's interested in running for governor and he just announced he'll make what he describes as a major announcement next week reporting at the state tom wallace kron 4 news. >> california attorney general rob bonta has expressed concerns about a potential constitutional crisis as lawsuits continue over the trump administration's policies while believes the u.s. is not reached that threshold yet. he says some of his colleagues, including new jersey's attorney general, argued the country is already in crisis. the lawsuits challenge executive orders related to issues like birthright citizenship and federal funding. so far, courts have blocked several of the administration's actions with california. joining in 4

been identified as 69 year-old james fields. >> disabled man was a nice man. kind kind know you? it was a good name of the victim was found in unique location for the time of day. >> the crews would have made it into that into the structure for search and the common places that someone will be found. you don't start in the garage that time tonight. people who knew fields say he was living alone after his wife recently passed away, but his granddaughters would visit him often. crews say the constant downpours last night made it tough for them to investigate and search. they also say there were no working smoke detectors in the garage. the cause of the fire is still being investigated. we're now learning that the person shot in san jose yesterday has died. >> police are now calling this a homicide case. the shooting happened about 2.20 yesterday

afternoon in the area farm and dow drives not far from the silicon valley career technical education center. police say that they found the man who was shot. he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. police are not releasing any information about a suspect or what may have led up to the shooting. >> but it has been a dangerous day with wild weather. strong winds, very heavy rain flooding here in the bay area. we're not done quite yet. when will that come to an end? what you know, we come up next.

>> welcome back to kron. 4 news at 6. it has been a brutal day to try to drive around. that was when it was daylight out. now it's dark in still raining. this is the bay bridge toll plaza. fortunately folks are taking it slow. you have to. >> yeah. if you don't have to be out there on the roads, probably a good idea not to be fact, just to turn on your tv set. watch, lawrence and hanging out. i wanted seriously. i mean, because it's dangerous out there. i was out there on to the ice. at least 7 spinouts said, oh, yeah, at least 7. i mean, i take my dog to the vet. i had no choice to get out there on the roads and people are just sliding off the road, whatever you want. i mean, it was just a mess out there. so hydroplane hydroplaning and the next slide onto car as they people would slow down. there you go. you would think. but yeah, you got to do it. folks. just load on down driving well below the speed

limit that remember that lead off the drive at 65 right to get back that off. you only drive as fast. >> as the weather will out there right now, a pretty slick out there on the roadways. golden gate bridge went out there now all around bay area bridges still very slick. you're going to see these downpours. >> coming through, we're not done with the storm system yet or at least it's not done with us. we've got that main cold front that has gone by on the backside of it. we've got more shower activity that's going to be moving on through as we head throughout the night tonight and probably into tomorrow morning. now, of course, we've been worried about southern california and here it is rolling on through. really heavy rainfall coming across many of those burn scar areas in southern california. not what we wanted to some places, 2 to 3 inches of rain expected as you might expect. they've got flash flood warnings now. that means they are seeing some flash flooding already occurring or is imminent. there you see the malibu area, one of the burn areas in that location. and of course them are worried about debris flows in that area as well. that's not the only spot to get a place like
