stations were council members found the money to keep them open. news at 5. well, morning. thanks for waking up with this bright and early here on. >> and 14 happy valentine's day. i'm reyna harvey. all right. well, you got plans and you're waking up and you're like, well, it's still raining. john is saying that things are going kind of change the day goes on in the yeah, we're very much so that the tail end of everything that we're seeing, which is a bit of good news leading into valentine's day. nba all-star weekend as well as lunar new year parade. >> going on in the bay area this weekend. so it's also nice that we got rid of that rainfall pretty early on. got it out of the way yesterday. we're looking outside. it's still some breezy conditions, though. the flags right at the embarcadero are definitely pushing in what will be a steady breeze for a lot of the day today. right now about 30 mile per hour gusts near the coastline. so definitely still very active out there. storm

tracker 4 is still showing a lot of snow in the sierra with winter storm warnings remaining in place up there here locally in the bay area. it is the very tail and of any sort of this energy passing through. so right now, we do have some pretty good shower activity through the east bay line of showers right over the dumbarton bridge. but all in all, there's not a lot energy left after this. so we are indeed at the final moments of what has been a rainy past. 48 hours. but we're not going to be here for much longer. temperature wise. it's fairly mild to start this morning. we're down in the 50's for most of our morning temps. a few 40's up in tne north bay, oakland and san francisco at 52 santa rosa at 48 degrees later on today. look forward to daytime highs in the upper 50's to low 60's and look forward a little bit of that. sunshine. good chance to get outside. for your valentine's day.

>> showers get rainfall overnight. last night we're still dealing with the consequences of that, which is a lot of wet spots on roads. still a very wet morning commute, as you can see at the bay bridge. it's also a windy morning commute who looks like we have a stalled vehicle in the right lane there on the san mateo bridge. but we already have chp there and a tow truck and they're trying to get that cleaned up. otherwise nothing really slowing you down. richmond center fell at 7 minutes for your crossing. and finally, the golden gate also moving along without any slowdowns rain. all right, on the eve of that powerful storm slamming much of the bay. >> heavy rain causing flood closures and flooding in san francisco and other parts of the bay area. gusty winds ripping through communities, even bringing down trees. caltrans crews are out clearing debris on major highways like how we 17. and take a look at this giant tree that fell oakland. the fire department posted these pictures from skyline boulevard brand iraq way. crews are working to try to get a clear as quickly as possible. the tree also

falling in martinez crashing through a fence. this is right outside of an apartment complex on pacheco boulevard right between brown street. and you're funny way. thankfully nobody was hurt. and the north bay there are currently flood watches in effect, several counties, including sonoma. stephanie rothman is in santa rosa with the very latest. >> rain turning roads slick throughout sonoma county on thursday, including in downtown santa rosa. >> i came through occidental earlier and there was water pouring down all the hills the water side of the road. and drove great. it was flooded. to go through. >> multiple problems spots can be seen near streams and creeks, including at laguna de santa rosa creek. >> in sebastopol shoppers took advantage of a break in the rain pick up groceries and

other essentials waiting a lot leaving. >> i hope everybody gets a u.s. now. about. say. >> its been some flooding, but it hasn't. just to be is on. so very thick. >> the flood watch is going to continue their saturday night. so now is the time to make sure that you're signed up for local emergency alerts. and of course, as always avoid high waters reporting in santa rosa. stephanie rothman kron. 4 news. >> while the rain caused part of the hill to give way in marin county, chp posting this picture of a rock slide on one-on-one southbound south of rodeo. one of the lanes blocked because rocks and dirt. they've spilled out onto the highway. caltrans crews are now on scene. they're clearing debris lanes will not reopen until 8 o'clock this morning. and mudslides blocking sales a road in santa cruz county. you can see the road mostly covered by jain, rocks and mud debris. chp says

if you see any hazards like this to report it immediately. and the east bay, a person is dead after a house fire in brentwood. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. the fire started during a downpour and fire officials struggled and the wet and windy weather to try and find the victim virtually to call has that story. >> firefighters called for additional resources once they found this home on nicholas court in brentwood on fire. >> and fully involved. i saw fire trucks and everything and iowa all. the poor guy 1000 on fire. initially the contra costa county fire protection district says the call came in just after 11 o'clock wednesday night. doesn't exterior fire from a caller on a neighboring street. >> only for crews to eventually find flames shooting out of the house. and that's >> so that justin lives across the street from the victim who has been identified by the contra costa county coroner's division. as 69 year-old james

fields. justin says he was living alone after his wife recently passed away but was visiting frequently by his granddaughters. it's a set old man >> they say men nice man. kind >> kind know >> it was a good neighbor fire. says the fire started in the garage and that's where the victim was found. the victim was found in unique location for the time of day. >> the crews would have made it into the into the structure for search and the common places that some of the in the bill, not the cause of the fire is still under investigation. assistant fire chief with mcdonald's says the constant downpour at the time complicated matters. >> he also says there were no working smoke detectors in the garage. we're inside the house. we train very hard to save lives.

from 3 oakland council members to keep fire stations afloat if approved, the new ordinance would reopen to shuttered fire stations. >> and prevent the closure of 4 others. fire stations. 25 28 are currently closed, at least through june as a part of the city's effort to close in more than 200 million dollar budget deficit in this budget situation where we really have to take a step back and ask ourselves, what can the city do? >> and i think we all understand that public safety is at the top of that pyramid feet looked for every penny. this has been truly, truly. when this task of finding every last penny possible that could go towards building our fire stations. councilmembers. janie ramos shot and run. zac unger and rebecca kaplan are proposing the city reallocate millions of dollars from 3 city funds to pay for the station's the biggest sources of funding for this. >> 2.6 million dollars that comes from the jpa. the

in this storm. sales firefighters responding to an island guadeloupe, a river. we're 2 people, 2 dogs and 4 puppies were trapped at this time. we don't exactly know how they got trapped. animal control is helping to take care of the dogs. what roads were the result of many crashes all over the bay area, including this one of the south bay person had to be taken to the hospital after look, their car flipped over on its pacheco pass in santa clara county who say they had a private car open it get the victim out. they don't have any word on their condition this morning. well, community members are going to rally this morning to advocate for pedestrian safety along one area in the city. they argue they have not seen chang- in safety improvement citing multiple traffic accidents in the last 4 months. the demand city leaders expedite safety improvements pedestrians, cyclists and drivers rallies at 8 this morning on harrison street and hamilton place. and those lovebirds gearing up to get married in the city by the bay 250 couples are getting

married this morning valentine's day. san francisco city hall. the mantle of races are start at 9 this morning. how's style showing off more than 5 inches of fresh snow. >> the ski resorts seen 209 inches so far this season. that's more than 17 feet and more is expected through this morning. >> seen multiple feet of snowfall already and just a few more inches are expected. so we're right at the tail end of it. but still some very rough travel up to tahoe this morning. easier travel here locally in the bay area. we're right at the tail end of our shower activity. as you can see, we've got an increasingly clear view at downtown san francisco right now. not looking bad at all right there. but that camera does have a little bit of a jungle to it because of some of those strong winds. and that's actually the biggest complicating morning factor this morning. up in the sierra is the fact that there's all that loose know and we still

have very, very strong winds up there. as you can see, still a lot of energy up in the sierra club out of blew up that direction. back here locally are shower activity is right on the very tail end of this is about the last of what we're going to be seeing. you can see it on the peninsula, south bay and inland east bay still seeing some pretty good rainfall. but already drying out in the north bay. you can see right here in future cast is not a lot to be had for the rest of the day locally. the sierra it still holding on to some snowfall for several more hours into the middle of the day. and with that, you're see air travel is kind of tricky this morning. we will still see some strong winds into the afternoon, even as skies begin to clear out more and more. a winter storm warning is in effect, technically through 10:00pm. if you do need to be heading up into the sierra waiting until the afternoon is definitely going to help out this morning. things are pretty rough up there. flood alerts. we do have flood warning still in the drainage is leading to the russian river. just west of santa

rosa. still some high water up around that area. those remain through saturday evening. as for where we are sitting with our winds are wind advisories may have expired, but it is still quite breezy with 30 mile per hour gusts at the coast as well as up through the delta. so today, all in all, it would keep the jackets on hand. but do you know things are clearing out really nicely? and just in time for valentine's day and all the other activities going on this weekend, mid to upper 50's for your daytime highs today. tomorrow's temperatures will officially achieved the low 60's for a few more spots in the bay. great for lunar new year parade in chinatown sunday. also looking great. a chance of a morning sprinkle, but it is a slim chance. this forecast dries out consistently really does stay that way through next week. things are rolling, ok, either bridges, 9 minutes across the bay bridge just saw a recent round of showers move through. so definitely wet. give yourself some extra time this morning. just because of that factor. still looking at that

stalled vehicle in the right lane. it does look like it's a big rig that really just needs to be told at this point saying, you know, those big rigs, they're not as easy as the little cars to be picking up. otherwise, though traffic is moving just fine along that span. both other spans, the richmond, sandra fell and the golden gate just wet this morning and subject to some stronger breezes here. and there. all right, john, thank for that. california state senator dave cortese is calling for an audit of the metropolitan transportation commission. >> and the bay area toll authority. we're testing chairs. the senate transportation committee says both agencies need to be held accountable for toll increases in taxpayer spending. hikes, including a $2.50 percent increase on bay area. bridges of raise some concerns about the use of the funds originally designated for bridge maintenance. but as he says, an audit is necessary to ensure transparency, especially with those upcoming tax proposals in 2026. well for your local election

headquarters, could kamala harris, the california's next governor. she's not said if she intends to run that there's a new exclusive poll by emerson college. our parent company, nexstar media shows if she does as a national emergency. the frontrunner, the survey finding harris would have 57% support among registered democrats in a distant second. former u.s. senate candidate and former orange county congress member katie porter with 9% support porter to is yet to publicly say whether she's running rounding the top 5, each less than 5% support. you have former los angeles mayor antonio de la cosa, california lieutenant governor eleni kounalakis and former state assembly and senate leader toni atkins, 17% meantime, are still undecided. >> i don't think this is a huge surprise. kamala harris obviously has huge name recognition in california. california is still a blue state.

nicely. we do have a few lingering showers across the region. mostly snowfall, though, that blue that you're noticing up in the sierra as well as the north coast. still some accumulating snow this morning. i know a lot of people that are wanting to get into the sierra this weekend which case just wait a little bit later on today. roadways are still snow packed and still very breezy up there. we still do have some lingering mostly light showers at this point on the southern end of the peninsula, south bay into the inland east bay. most of us have started that drying process and will continue to remain dry as we work our way through the rest of your valentine's day today and through the rest of this very busy weekend 40's to 50's for current temperatures. it's cool. it's breezy which does make for a cool blustery feel this morning. skies clear out really nicely this afternoon with a solid dose of sunshine to hopefully enjoy a little bit. >> it is after overnight showers and those few lingering morning showers. those talking about 10 minutes

right now for your crossing at the bay bridge. still trying to get that big rig cleared from the right lane at the san mateo bridge. it isn't resulting in any backups, but you can see a little slow down as you make your way past that. richmond, sandra fell at 7 minutes at just a little wet and a little breezy as you make your crossing at the golden gate. all right, john, thank for that. part of the south facing some major flooding in the storm. look at this. >> san jose firefighters responding to an island in the guadalupe river. >> 2 people, 2 dogs and 4 puppies. a look at the puppies. they were all trapped at this time. we don't know how they got trapped. animal controls, helping to take care of the puppies. now. elsewhere in the south bay flooding turned many roadways into waterways. crump was rob nesbitt reports from saratoga. take a look. >> this is saratoga way that leads to the santa cruz mountains behind me. when you drive into the mountains, you'll see a lot of flooding in several trees down. >> thursday storm caused the

eu. creek in gilroy to spill out over rent avenue. it was a common scene in the south bay with heavy rains and strong winds. that combination brought down this tree in the santa cruz mountains just outside of cupertino. keeping line crews busy according to pg e spokesperson, the south bay stephanie mag alone. we did see multiple areas damage locations. we had trees that were falling that fell over our lines at reprieve conductors. we also saw reports of underground vaults that were flooded. >> and that really played a big role in some of the outages that we saw this morning. >> at one point in the morning pg e was reporting 8,000 customers without power in the south bay. that number dropped to less than 2000 by noon because of isolating technology. what that does is it isolates locations that have. >> damage so that the rest of the community around they are able to go back online and then just a limited number of people will without power while we make a repair and restore in storms like this,

there's often a chance of down trees, taking power lines down with them emergency situation that requires 9-1-1. if you come across a downed power line, make sure they stay away can be extremely dangerous. if you are without power, use flashlights instead of candles. >> mag alone says if you are one of those customers still without power, make sure you have extra batteries for your flashlights. and if you're using a generator, do your research and make sure you're using it correctly. reporting in saratoga, i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news. >> there you see really good strong. probably 20 to 30 mile an hour winds. it which is really nice if things within your limits. this is pushing the envelope out here. >> well, back in the bay area where not everybody was bothered by the wind weather on thursday. this took advantage of the conditions to go windsurfing in marin county. high winds are expected to continue until at least 10 this morning. and that could be stronger around coastal areas, even though some people are heading to the coast. the national weather service is advising people to stay away. right along the

coast. the service expect to be even stronger throughout this morning. officials are saying dangerous ways round 30 feet along the coast, making it really dangerous for people to be on the water. city leaders are urging people to be cautious and they're telling people to be prepared for the storm. they've got crews nearby. we talked with the sandwiches, the department of emergency to see how they are managing this storm. >> flood watch in effect through 10:00pm saturday. we're expecting 2 to 3 inches of rain in the forecast in san francisco through friday. we have a high wind warning in effect as well through tomorrow morning. we're expecting 35 to 40 mile per hour winds with gusts up to 70 miles per hour along the coast. it's very windy. >> well, officials are urging people to drive safely. take your time and just drive slow. what roads were actually the result of lots of crashes across the bay area and the a person to be taken to the hospital after look, the car

flipped on its roof is on take a pass in santa clara county who say they have to private car open to get the person out. we don't have any word on that person's condition this morning. we've got new details this morning about the 3 college students that were killed in a tesla cyber truck crash in piedmont, alameda county sheriff's office has released a toxicology report revealing the driver and the 2 passengers who died. they were under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. the report also found traces of meth in the driver. so 19 year old soren dixon. krista. so kahana. >> and then jack nelson died the night before thanksgiving the cybertruck they were in jumped a curb, crashed into a tree, burst into flames. only one passenger survived. they were all home from college for the holidays and they were all graduates of piedmont high school. as for that lone survivor, a last check. he was still in the hospital, but he

is in stable condition. family friends said he suffered burn injuries before a good samaritan pulled him out of cybertruck. and we're now learning that the person shot in san jose on wednesday has died. police are now calling this a homicide case. the shooting happened in the area of farm doubt drives not too far from the silicon valley career technical educational center. the man who was shot was taken to the hospital where he died. police did not release any information at all a suspect or what might have led to that shooting. antioch, need your help. they're trying to find this missing person. 10 inches tall weighs 150 t, e- pounds. police say was last seen yesterday afternoon leaving his home ranch drive. he was wearing a black hoodie, possibly a reflective vest, khaki pants. jason is known to frequent local parks. if you have any information, you are urged to contact antioch police. well played community

members. they're going to rally this morning to advocate for pedestrian safety along one area in the city. organizers say that the harrison street corridor from 27th street to the 5.80, freeway has been studied for safety improvements for over 15 years. they argue that they have not seen changes safety improvements, citing multiple traffic accidents in the last 4 months. they're demanding city leaders to expedite safety improvements for both pedestrians, cyclists and drivers. rallies going to be at 8 this morning on harrison street and hamilton place. >> despite yesterday's rain student at oakland high school walked out of class to protest against donald trump's immigration policies. students carrying signs flags. they marched to the lake merritt killers overnight. walk out to say that ice raids in immigrant communities is unacceptable. >> and the community foundation, they held a town
