francisco. still lingering for the southern part of the bay area. and still some snow fall up in the sierra nevada itself. >> let's zoom in on a couple of areas that are actively seeing rainfall and that includes 101 from mountain view down through morgan hill. pretty solid stretch of light showers through there this morning. heavier rainfall on up in the mountains above san jose's. you're crossing around pacheco, pass some very slick conditions down there. then just a few sprinkles elsewhere in the bay. all zoom out just a little bit further. so you can see the sierra still snowing up there around 2 to 6 more inches of snowfall today. so at the tail end of snowfall, potential in the mountains 50's for most of our current temperatures, although a few 40's and spots like livermore and dublin as well as peddling ben santa rosa as we move into the afternoon, do expect plenty of sunshine and highs mostly in the 50's. >> all rig t, john, thank you for with our mateo bridge where we do have a stalled out truck there you can see just to the left. and so that's not really slowing things down too much. we're still at 14

minutes traveling across our san mateo bridge, still very slick out there. so i would be driving with some caution about 13 along the bay bridge. well, your richmond, sandra fell is at 7 the building a bridge at 19 minutes. and if you are in the east bay, you're driving along to 38 at 8.80, northbound. got an accident there. and so of close that ramp so that connector ramp to to 38, 8.80. we'll have more on that coming up during james. back to you. all right, even though you can see the golden gate bridge is dry in the north bay. there is currently a flood watch in effect right now in several counties, including sonoma. yeah, kron 4, stephanie rothman up in santa rosa with the very latest there. >> rain turning roads slick throughout sonoma county on thursday, including in downtown santa rosa. >> i came through occidental earlier and there was water pouring down all the hills, tons of water, the side of the road. and drove great it was flooded. to go through. foot

crews are there. they're clearing it. the lanes, though, are not going to reopen until 8 o'clock this morning. wet roads resulted in many crashes. as you can see here all around the bay. this was the story in the south bay person had to go to hospital because their car flipped over on pacheco pass in santa clara county. crews actually had to pry open that car to get the victim out. we don't know their condition this morning. >> we have new details this morning about those 3 college students that died in a tesla cyber truck crash in piedmont. the alameda county sheriff's office has released a toxicology report are feeling the driver and both passengers who died were under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. the report also found traces of meth in the driver, 19 year-old store in dickson. krista took ahora and jack nelson died the night before thanksgiving. the cybertruck they were in, jumped a curb and crashed into a tree. and

crisis. the community rally we heard from thousands of oakland residents, petitions, rallies and now a new proposal from 3 oakland council members to keep fire stations afloat if approved, the new ordinance would reopen to shuttered fire stations. >> and prevent the closure of 4 others. fire stations. 25 28 are currently closed, at least through june as a part of the city's effort to close in more than 200 million dollar budget deficit in this budget situation where we really have to take a step back and ask ourselves, what can the city do? >> and i think we all understand that public safety is at the top of that pyramid feet looked for every penny. this has been truly, truly. when this task of finding every last penny possible that could go towards building our fire stations councilmembers. janie ramos shot and run. zac unger and rebecca kaplan are proposing the city reallocate millions of dollars from 3 city funds to pay for the

station's the biggest sources of funding for this. >> 2.6 million dollars that comes from the jpa. the coliseum >> has experienced an uptick of sales and revenue more than expected. so that positive profit is being able to flow back to the city oakland, fire captain and union president sepp olor described how crucial it is for the rest of the city council to approve this ordinance. me within the first 8 hours of the closures on january 6, there was a cpr call within stone's throw of engine. 25. >> and i personally went to a house fire on engines. 21, which is between the 2 closed firehouses. it nearly 20 minutes to get there. so these firehouse closures have real world impacts. >> that was sara stinson reporting. the oakland city council is kind of discuss the ordinance at their meeting on march 4th council members are encouraging residents to be there too. if approved the to fire stations that we're close. we're able to reopen by the end of this fiscal year.

too. you can actually step outside in those beautiful wedding gowns and not worry about getting so wet today like you would have the past 48 hours when it was just really coming down at the guadalupe river, which side those rising water levels over 6 and a quarter inches of rainfall over the past. 48 hours mount tam saw over 4 inches of it. oakland around 2 and a half while san francisco and san jose also release all that rainfall coming down. here's a little bit of the good news for such a busy weekend ahead of us is things are starting to quiet up in the sierras. still looking at some snowfall, a few inches of snow still yet to come down. but really strong winds up there. as for the bay area, starting to quiet more and more, a few lingering showers from san jose south down towards morgan hill. as you can see in future cast is not a lot going on. in fact, we are going to be seeing increasing sunshine as we work our way towards late morning and especially into the afternoon today, the sierra we'll slowly that snowfall, but still some very windy conditions. so still a little

bit tricky getting up there today with a winter storm warning in effect through 10:00pm multiple spots in the sierra saw feet upon feet of that new snow and all that, lou snow is still blowing around and drifting in those higher elevations. we still do have that residual rain, a rather water coming down from the rain that is really feeling or small streams. we still do have a flood warning west of santa rosa. those low lying areas training into the russian river. now, as far as winds go, this is something that doesn't diminish much today. it is going to be consistently breezy one 20 to 30 mile per hour gusts. if you are taking that valentine's day hike, maybe just make sure that that picnic blanket is tied down as much as possible. 50's for your daytime highs today tomorrow and sunday. we do see some 60's on the map and even more sunshine sunday. i'm not ruling outea chance of a morning sprinkle, but all in all this forecast is pretty dry leading into next week, too.

conductors. we also saw reports of underground vaults that were flooded. >> and that really played a big role in some of the outages that we saw this morning. >> at one point in the morning pg e was reporting 8,000 customers without power in the south bay. that number dropped to less than 2000 by noon because of isolating technology. what that does is isolates locations that have. >> damage so that the rest of the community around they are able to go back online and then just a limited number of people will without power. while we make a repair and restore in storms like this, there's often a chance of down trees, taking power lines down with them emergency situation that requires 9-1-1. if you come across a downed power line, make sure they stay away can be extremely dangerous. if you are without power use flashlights instead of candles. >> mag alone says if you are one of those customers still without power, make sure you have extra batteries for your flashlights. and if you're using a generator, do your research and make sure you're using it correctly. reporting

in saratoga, i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> a mudslide of blocking san jose road in santa cruz county right here and giant rocks and a lot of mud. as you can see, chp says hazards like that. if you see one reported immediately so they cannot get out there and clean it up. >> well, a powerful storm slamming much of the bay area as we know. and you can see it. use of it there with the heavy rain coming down. we had road closures. we had flooding in some parts of the bay area. giannis meanwhile, was driving a 5 o'clock and it was like sheets of rain and the gusty winds up to and that made it difficult to see place. trees came down caltrans was out there clearing out as much debris as they could. they were out of highway 17 and then in the east bay, one person, unfortunately died in a house fire out in brentwood. yeah. that fire started during a downpour and so fire officials were struggling because it was wet. it was windy and they have trouble finding the victim to kron four's. philippe djegal has

the story. >> firefighters called for additional resources once they found this home on nicholas court in brentwood on fire. >> and fully involved. i saw fire trucks and everything and iowa all. the poor guy 1000 on fire. initially the contra costa county fire protection district says the call came in just after 11 o'clock wednesday night. doesn't exterior fire from a caller on a neighboring street. >> only for crews to eventually find flames shooting out of the house. and that's >> so that justin lives across the street from the victim who has been identified by the contra costa county coroner's division. as 69 year-old james fields. justin says he was living alone after his wife recently passed away but was visiting frequently by his granddaughters. it's a set old man >> they say men nice man. kind

kind know you. it was a good neighbor on fire. says the fire started in the garage and that's where the victim was found. the victim was found in unique location for the time of day. >> the crews would have made it into that it to the structure for search and the common places that someone will be found in the building. not the cause of the fire is still under investigation. assistant fire chief with mcdonald's says the constant downpour at the time complicated matters. >> he also says there were no working smoke detectors in the garage. we're inside the house. we train very hard to save lives. >> it's a little bit of hard hit when the stars on line. >> no matter what effort you put into was a helpful man. you know, sometimes check to help me out. something else. it was a good student, person, an insurance adjuster who
