inviting whether you're traveling, maybe picking someone up from the airport for all those events going on this weekend. still a little bit of snow in the sierra. just a few more inches falling today. if you are heading up there this weekend, this is your invitation to hit. the road is looking good, but it is snow packed. so bring the chains with you. as i mentioned, nothing more than a lingering sprinkle or 2 at this point for just a couple spots in the bay. temperatures are in the 50's mostly and that's where we'll stay through the afternoon. we're going to pair that with some stronger winds at times. so it is kind of a cool one. bring the jackets as you go out on your valentine's day overall today does clear out really nicely, though, with more and more peeks of sunshine. >> back to you. all right. thanks a lot, john. 10 o'clock right now and still from the rain yesterday and the wind. there's a lot of cleanup going on. some is causing big traffic problems on highway 101 south through sausalito and marin county because a landslide. yeah, happened this morning and it's jamming up the traffic rompers joey horta has been keeping an eye on it. joining us live from the

scene. joey. >> james and darya right now, 2 of the southbound lanes here on 1, are still shut down and caltrans tells me they have no idea yet when they'll be able to reopen the rest of the highway here. still a big mess there. cleaning up right now, cleaning up those trees that have fallen off the mountain and the rocks in the mud as well. they're trying to scrub all that up and get it out of here. started around 7 o'clock last night making it too dangerous for drivers. that's why they had to shut it down. it's called loads of dirt. there's more on the way. >> it was very significant slide. and so it's going to take a little while have it cleared issue right now with the slide still moving as we're cleaning it up as it makes it difficult to us to forecast how much material we're going to have to move in when will ultimately be able to open it back up. >> this is between spencer avenue and rodeo avenue.

traffic is backed up for a couple of miles across the bridge all the way from sausalito to strawberry. and after all, the rain we got this week, first responders are reminding drivers give yourself extra time to get to your destination this morning. so and cleanup process continues here. caltrans says no, this will not be open by noon today. they have no estimate on exactly when that will happen. but they are just hoping to get it done at some point later on today. that's what they've got going on here. back to you. all right. thanks a lot, joey. it's weird when you see a roadway that you are driving on now just got to lay it right after i was there. thank you. >> and there's all kinds of problems all around the base basketball in santa rosa have some areas of heavy flooding. there's still dealing with closed roads there, some downtown areas major accidents in the westbound lanes of rohnert park expressway were closed. that's near rancho verde circle. there were parts of highway 12 closed as well

in both directions because of flooding. and actually, we don't have an estimated reopening there. so you may see some local effects this morning. >> i came through occidental earlier and there was water pouring down all the bills from the water, the side of the road. and drove great. and then it was flooded. >> to go through. >> if you like foot of water. >> well, and you're not supposed to drive just turn around the flood watches in effect through saturday night. so be aware, especially at night when you can't tell how deep those puddles are. there were a lot of crashes around the bay area because of the rains in the south bay. there is this accident where a car flipped over on take a pass in santa clara county. and crews had to pry open the vehicle to get the victim out. we're not sure of their condition this morning. >> well, new details this morning about those 3 college students who died in a tesla cyber truck crash in piedmont. the alameda county sheriff's office has released the toxicology report and it

reveals the driver and the 2 passengers who died were under the influence of alcohol and cocaine. the report also found traces of meth and the driver system. ultimately 19 year-old soaring dixon, krista took ahora and jack nelson died the night before thanksgiving. that cyber truck they were in jumped the curb, crashed into a tree and then burst into flames. only one passenger survived. they were all home from college for the holidays and we're all graduates of piedmont high school. as for that lone survivor at last check, that person was still in the hospital in stable condition. family friends say he did suffer burns, though, before good samaritan pulled him out of that burning cybertruck. >> it's 10, 0, 5, 3, council members and oakland are stepping up to try to keep the fire stations open. yeah, we have kron four's sara stinson with a look at the plan to do that. when the news first broke. >> that there were 6 slated closures of fire stations and open due to our budget crisis.

the community rally we heard from thousands of oakland residents, petitions, rallies and now a new proposal from 3 oakland council members to keep fire stations afloat if approved, the new ordinance would reopen to shuttered fire stations. >> and prevent the closure of 4 others. fire stations. 25 28 are currently closed, at least through june as a part of the city's effort to close in more than 200 million dollar budget deficit in this budget situation where we really have to take a step back and ask ourselves, what can the city do? >> and i think we all understand that public safety is at the top of that pyramid feet looked for every penny. this has been truly, truly. when this task of finding every last penny possible that janie ramos shot and run. zac unger and rebecca kaplan are proposing the city reallocate millions of dollars from 3 city funds to pay for the station's the biggest sources

of funding for this. >> 2.6 million dollars that comes from the jpa. the coliseum >> has experienced an uptick of sales and revenue more than expected. so that positive profit is being able to flow back to the city oakland, fire captain and union president seth olor described how crucial it is for the rest of the city council to approve this ordinance. me within the first 8 hours of the closures on january 6, there was a cpr call within stone's throw of engine. 25. > and i personally went to a house fire on engines. 21, which is between the 2 closed firehouses. it took nearly 20 minutes to get there. so these firehouse closures have real world impacts. >> sara stinson reporting the oakland city council will talk about the ordinance at their meeting on march 4th. they're encouraging the public to attend and also, want you to know that if this is approved those to fire stations that were closed, we'll be able to re reopened by the fiscal

that happened. there was major flooding, obviously. and this is in san jose where firefighters. >> and one to an island in the guadalupe river and they saved is a lot of dogs. 2 dogs for puppies and 2 people that i love the poses. they're like, hey, they don't even look wetter miserable. look, the animals. we don't know how to get trapped in. the people got trapped. but we know how they got rescued. sounds good. okay. >> 10, 14, the time elsewhere in the south bay. as mentioned, flooding was an issue turned number of roadways into well. rivers rob nesbitt takes a look. >> this is saratoga way that leads to the santa cruz mountains behind me. when you drive into the mountains, you'll see a lot of flooding in several trees down. >> thursday storm caused the eu. creek in gilroy to spill out over rent avenue. it was a common scene in the south bay with heavy rains and strong winds. that combination brought down this tree in the santa cruz mountains just outside of cupertino. keeping line crews busy according to pg e spokesperson, the south bay stephanie mag alone. we

did see multiple areas damage locations. >> we have trees that were falling that fell over our lines at reprieve conductors. we also saw reports of underground vaults that were flooded and that really played a big role in some of the outages that we saw this morning. >> at one point in the morning pg e was reporting 8,000 customers without power in the south bay. that number dropped to less than 2000 by noon because of isolating technology. what that does is it isolates locations that have. >> damage so that the rest of the community around they are able to go back online and then just a limited number of people will without power while we make a repair and restore in storms like this, there's often a chance of down trees, taking power lines down with them emergency situation that requires 9-1-1. if you come across a downed power line, make sure they stay away can be extremely dangerous. if you are without power, use flashlights instead of

candles. >> mag alone says if you are one of those customers still without power, make sure you have extra batteries for your flashlights. and if you're using a generator, do your research and make sure you're using it correctly. reporting in saratoga, i'm rob nesbitt. kron. 4 news. >> and there is a mudslide that they're dealing with us. well, this is on san jose road in santa cruz county, big rocks and mud that spilled onto the roadway. and the chp says that if you do see a hazard like this, report it right away because can you imagine coming across that inh the dark >> it definitely looks like day after a big storm for sure for a lot of areas. i mean, santa cruz county getting upwards of 8 to even 9 inches of rain for some areas along the guadalupe river where they rescued those dogs. >> around 6 inches of rainfall mount tam around 4 inches of it. while oakland around 2 and a half. so we definitely saw a good amount the system. but now we're at the tail end of that with some clearing and definitely brightening skies across the bay at this point.

still a little bit of lingering snow fall up in the sierra. just a couple more ppinches to be had up there. most of that's already been seen the bay area. a few light sprinkles here and there, but all in all, pretty quiet. now, futurecast shows us dry skies as we move on into your valentine's day afternoon. and if you are heading to the sierra, go ahead, get up there. but do know that roadways are snow packed. still a little bit of lingering snow and still some strong winds up there. we do still have a winter storm warning in effect for the sierra tell 10:00pm tonight roadways are open, though. you just need the chains in the north bay. we still do have a flood warning west of santa rosa right there in those low-lying drainage is leading to the russian river. that's in effect through tomorrow night. and winds are still a factor. in today's forecast, 20 to 30 mile per hour gusts. if you plan something for valentine's day outside, just know it is going to be cool and breezy with temperatures in the 50's paired with those windy conditions. definitely want to bring the jacket. today's dried out. really, really nicely for us. tomorrow is going to stay that way for

your leader. you new year parade and sunday, aside from a slim chance of a morning, sprinkle is looking like a nice way to close out the weekend. all right. thank you very much, john. 10, 18 is the time in the north bay. santa rosa. police right now are searching for a man who they say sexually assaulted a girl. >> inside a movie theater. so on your screen right now is a sketch that police provided. it's all they have to go on right now. this assault happened at the roxy stadium. 14 fear that's on santa rosa avenue. it happened over the summer last year, but it wasn't reported in till november the victim was going through some trauma and didn't feel comfortable coming forward until then. the teenager says she was watching a movie when she got up use the bathroom. the suspect followed her and ended up assaulting her. so police are trying to identify who this person is. if you have any information that could be helpful, give them a call. >> we now know more about the person who was shot in san jose on wednesday. they ended

up dying. police are investigating what happened. this is in the area farm and out drives not far from silicon valley career tech education center where a man was found. he had been shot. he was taken to the hospital where he died. we don't have any word on any arrests at this point. >> in every bill residents should expect traffic delays, detours parking restrictions because they're doing some work on hollis street. it's going to be closed in the coming days are going to be doing some improvements for pedestrian safety. and they're just going to be repairing some pavement at 5 intersections underground utility work has begun. head of the construction, which is scheduled to start february 24th. they'll be doing some other upgrades including to sidewalk extensions, bus pads and dedicated loading areas. >> well, after leaving oakland, a rare puerto rican restaurant is ready to reopen its doors at a new location. perla puerto rican cuisine is set to open today in castro

valley. a spokesperson says visitors can expect some notable names with live music playing in front of the building from noon until 3. the restaurant is going to be open today from noon until 9. >> for your money this morning, the california secretary of state now warning about a scam that's targeting small businesses. >> so this scam involves a letter sent to businesses requesting that those businesses send cash or face consequences. at first glance, the document might appear legitimate. but if you look closely, you'll find several important discrepancies. they use accurate information about the business type and the entity number that information, those public of publicly available and easy to get. but what you'll notice if you look closer is that the document brazenly discloses that it was sent by corporate processing service, which is a non government agency and that the forum has not been endorsed by any legitimate authority. >> scam trade is basically as

john looks like the weekend entirely screen. yeah. so much improvement from yesterday. whether it's the travel out of sfo or even heading up to the sierra, you can do enjoy a lot of new snowfall up there. and here in the bay area, maybe you're getting outside for valentine's day today. looking good for it. now it is breezy out there, especially along the coastline. so do know that half moon bay also does have a high surf advisory in effect right now. now storm tracker 4 does show a little snow up in the sierra fairly calm conditions back home in the bay and skies will only grow even clear towards the afternoon. we do stay cool today with temperatures remaining in the 50's in remaining a little breezy, too. so bring the jackets with you. but all in all, we wave goodbye to that very act. a pattern we had yesterday and now we're set up for a dry and comfortable enough weekend. i'll talk about everything you got to know for it. still ahead, back to you. >> if you look out there, you see really good strong, probably 20 to 30 mile an hour winds. it which is really nice if things within your limits. this is pushing the envelope out.

have a high wind warning in effect as well through tomorrow morning. we're expecting 35 to 40 mile per hour winds with gusts up to 70 miles per hour along the coast. it's very windy. >> so when you are and about in the wind to both hands on the wheel for sure. >> all right, 10 32 is the time switching gears were heading to the east bay. now where one person unfortunately died in a house fire in brentwood that broke out while it was pouring rain. right? and so firefighters are struggling to get control of that kron four's. philippe djegal has more. >> firefighters called for additional resources once they found this home on nicholas court in brentwood on fire. >> and fully involved. i saw fire trucks and everything and iowa all. the poor guy, thousands on fire. initially. the contra costa county fire protection district says the call came in just after 11 o'clock wednesday night. doesn't exterior fire from a caller on a neighboring street. >> only for crews to eventually find flames

shooting out of the house. and that's >> so that justin lives across the street from the victim who has been identified by the contra costa county coroner's division. as 69 year-old james fields. justin says he was living alone after his wife recently passed away but was visiting frequently by his granddaughters. it's a old man >> several men a nice man. well, look, kind >> kind know you. >> it was a good neighbor on fire. says the fire started in the garage and that's where the victim was found. the victim was found in unique location for the time of day. >> the crews would have made it into the into the structure for search and the common places that someone will be found in the bill. not the cause of the fire is still under investigation. assistant fire chief with mcdonald's says the constant downpour at

through various communities around the bay. lot of people have been hit hard by it. and if you're among them and recovering as best you can, doctors at kaiser permanente have some advice. >> your body is going to tell you what it needs of rest. you need to need to reduce what you're doing, hydration really big. nutrition is really big to particularly even if you're not feeling so well. you've got norovirus, which is the stomach flu. maybe don't feel like eating. it's really important to get some nutrition and there to help your body. the energy needs to fight those thing. >> have vaccine rates, by the way, are also low as the flu is really accelerating. doctors say it's never too late to protect yourself with the flu vaccine. so if you haven't got that yet or gotten your booster, make sure to do that. they also recommend people wash their hands and cover their mouths when they cough. and if you are among the vulnerable communities that need to be on. the lookout for infections may be mask up. if you're in a crowd.

california state senator dave court se is calling for an audit of the metropolitan transportation commission and the bay area toll authority protesting who chairs the senate transportation committee says that both agencies need to be held accountable for all these toll increases and taxpayers spend it. recent toll hikes included a $2.50 increase on bay area. bridges that are state owned. that's raised concerns about the use of funds that were originally designated for bridge maintenance. curtis, he says an audit is necessary to ensure transparency, especially with upcoming tax proposals in 2026. >> well, i guess prices are also going up to as spring is approaching gas prices are on the rise. national average 3.16, which i wish we had here in the bay area. but we do maybe 20 years ago 9 and oh, yeah, the state average is 4.79 and here in the bay area. it's even more than that. officials say there are a number of reasons why. from maintenance at refineries to

and former orange county congress member katie porter with 9% support porter to has yet to publicly say whether she's running and rounding out the top 5, each with less than 5% support. former los angeles mayor antonio villaraigosa, california lieutenant governor eleni kounalakis and former state assembly and senate leader toni atkins, 70% of respondents meantime say they're undecided. i don't think this is a huge surprise. kamala harris obviously has huge name recognition in california. california is still a blue state loyola law school professor jessica levinson notes. california is also harris's home state, which she served as attorney general and u.s. senator before her term as vice president. and so voters are familiar with her. >> as the senator as the vice president, and you just can not quantify the importance of her name recognition and there's nobody in the current field who has the statewide

name recognition that harris but of harris does not run in the poll, found porter as of now would ave e strongest support. >> still in that scenario, 45% of respondents say they're undecided at hagley of emerson. college polling helped conduct a survey with harris out of the picture. i think that this is an open contest. on the issues. more than 6 out of every 10 respondents said the state should spend more on firefighter staffing and equipment on immigration. 56% of respondents indicated mass deportations are a bad thing for the state. while 44% said they're a good thing. 54% meantime think california's high-speed rail is a good use of state funds. while 46% think it's not and as for our current governor, gavin newsom, among california voters from across the spectrum, the poll found he has 42% approval and 40% disapproval president trump and the goal in the state has 37% approval and 53% disapproval. i think what we're seeing with respect to president trump's numbers in

caltrans is try to cover a lot of ground today. but as you can see, so much snow has accumulated overnight and into this morning that they're having a hard time keeping up with that. this is at cisco grove. this is stop for many drivers and truck drivers that have been on the road trying to get a break in this storm. but at this point, trucks are not being allowed past applegate. they are being held during the storm based on how intense conditions have been out here. we're in a little bit of a lull right now. snow relatively light here this morning. you can take a look and see as that snow is starting to fall here put my hand out. it's really not too heavy. we're catching a couple pellets, not quite snowflakes yet, but a lot of snow that has a cumulative over the last several hours several roads are completely covered in snow or ice. and caltrans is trying to clear as quickly as they can. but it's big demand to keep up with during this

storm. chp is asking drivers if you don't have to travel this way, do not come to this sierra. they are seeing several spinouts from drivers, evil, even traveling in the 20 to 30 mile per hour range. however, they say if for some reason you absolutely have to travel this way to bring a go bag with you have an extra pair of warm clothes, a blanket, food and water supplies and to be prepared for delays. as i said, they have nus a lot of crashes over the last several hours and they are urging drivers to take it slow. if you have to travel in the sierra for now reporting from cisco grove, i'm curtis for kron. 4 news. if you can get if ask ian the great unless it's really windy, i don't know about that find out. john. yeah, the wind is still probably honestly the biggest factor. >> if you're just seeing a growing fear as the moments go, buy a diamond peak right here. really stacked up on those picnic benches. definitely a lot of snow in a short period of time. we saw

even more of it coming down last night and we've seen an additional anywhere between 2 to 7 inches so far this morning up there. so it's piled up even more and a lot of spots. but it is starting to diminish for the bay area. we're definitely done with the heaviest of it. now, just a couple of sprinkles. so she did with a little bit of residual moisture skies today. just grow clear and clear in that is eventually true for the sierra with clearing skies towards midday. we still do tactically have some winter storm warnings until 10:00pm tonight. lot of that does have to do with the wind. roadways are open. they are snow packed, bring chains with you and bring some extra time because it's going to take a while. as for the north bay, we still do have a flood warning west of santa rosa in those low-lying drainage is leading up to the russian river. this will technically remain through tomorrow night. winds are a factor all day long today, not just for the sierra, but also for the bay. most of our winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour. we do have a high surf warning at the coast. so if your plans involved heading out to the coastline, those are 2 things
