due to a storm-related landslide. it's going to be a while until the lanes reopened. kron four's. dan kerman reports. >> well, those years were busy friday afternoon, clearing debris along southbound 101, just past the sausalito exit around 7 thursday night. the rain and wind caused part of the hillside near the rodeo exit to give way work. crews have worked through the night to clear it. we need these 2 lanes to keep crews safe while they get rid of all this material, clean up the trains trains that we have here and remove some of those 3 lanes of traffic were closed for much of the night. but by friday morning, those heading southbound on 101, we're able to use the left 2 lanes. well, caltrans continue the cleanup in the 2 right lanes. now clearing up this debris is just the first step. the next step is to put a concrete barrier along the shoulder. >> that way, if additional debris falls, it will not come into the roadway. >> caltrans says this is a common area for landslides during the rainy season. and

as such, they'll continue to monitor this location as well as a few others are. engineers are going to take a look a little bit higher up on the mountain. >> to see if there's anything else that needs to be done here. we've had some slides up further on the one freeway are some areas in the south bay. we're looking at fortunately for state route. 37, we haven't seen flooding taking over that. we're watching that one, too. >> in marin county, dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> thank you, dan. caltrans is hoping to get all 4 lanes open sometime tonight. again at this hour. you have those 2 lanes that >> are still closed. all right. let's go outside. checking out san francisco little bird's-eye view. they're dry skies. >> yeah, dry skies that day to dry out. and boy, did we need it. meteorologist kathy trafton is here with a look at our forecast. a cat. >> people it's about time got chance dry out after a deluge again on thursday. >> lots of rain and also snow in the sierra. now we're just learning what about

temperatures like okay, little bit cooler than it was yesterday at this hour. numbers right now in the 50's. 0, yeah. there's one area in the 60's low 60's fairfield at 60 degrees. that's the concern at the coastline. up to 40 5 foot waves. no wonder he's a high surf warning in effect for the western facing beaches. that expires tomorrow morning at 3 o'clock. >> speaking of tomorrow morning, it is going to be chilly, especially in the north bay, interior valleys and especially in the eastern hills of san jose. that area santa clara, because you know what we could see temperatures plummet down freezing. so frost is not all surprising. live camera network showing well beautiful conditions from mount tam, a pious after all of that rain. now 10 had 4 plus inches of rain just about 2 days and no wonder the trees looks so green. guadalupe river, 6.2, 6 inches. >> so lots of rain throughout the entire bay area. even about 2 and a half inches in

charles clifford has details now from an nba fan experience being held at moscone center. >> this is a big weekend for nba fans as many of them came here to county center to check out the nba fan experience. another fan experience includes a full-size court. there are skills, challenges, lots and lots of games. players signing autographs, food and wine vendors, clothing vendors as well. lots of fun things. now i talked to a couple of fans who say they're just thrilled to be here. >> just trying you know, so some of nba is a great organization have so much fall months excited that hoping to see my favorite player, mitt richmond, retired nba legend looking forward to all the events all weekend has lots of things happening here. let's things happen all over the city. so to say to check it out now, if you are coming to san francisco this weekend, keep in mind, there's a lot of people here for the nba experience, all the events, but also its lunar new year here in san francisco weekend. lots of events, especially with the parade on saturday. so probably a good idea if you

can use public transportation. but for now in san francisco, charles clifford kron, 4 news and kron, 4 sports reporter ben ross is at chase center right now is getting ready for a big all-star event tonight. >> he'll be joining us live at 4.30. >> meanwhile, the city of oakland is expanding its safety camera network to the troubled hagan burger corridor. the city council set aside $150,000 for the installment of cameras, business owners in the area help city officials decide where the cameras should be placed. >> new at 4 san francisco city officials are confirming now that 3 people claiming to be from the department of government efficiency ordos tried to enter their offices today searching for evidence of waste and fraud. now, according to san francisco sheriff's office, 3 men dressed in doge shirts and maga hats and various offices at city hall around noon today and demanded employees turnover digital information.

the employees refused and called the sheriff's office. but the man left before deputies got there. the sheriff's office says that they don't leave. the people were actual representatives from goes hard to tell president trump created those when he took office in january and put elon musk in charge. >> state farm's request to increase rates has been rejected. the state's insurance commissioner says the company did not prove why they needed rates height at this time. state farm. 22% hike for homeowners policy says they deal with claims from la county fire victims. the commissioner has scheduled a meeting with state farm for later this month to address questions about state farm's financial condition and the proposed rate hike. >> governor newsom is vowing to veto a bill that would prevent the state prison system from cooperating with ice kron four's capitol correspondent eytan wallace has reaction from both sides of the aisle.

>> well, i cannot stress to not. it is extremely rare for the governor to weigh in on a bill before it reaches his desk. but as pertains to this legislation calling on the state prison system not to cooperate with ice. the governor did weigh in hoping to send a strong message. he will veto it. and so the california prison system cooperate with ice and federal immigration enforcement. that is the very issue is something bill 15 tried to get out when it was originally authored in december. >> in most cases it would have prevented the california department of corrections and rehabilitation or cdcr from cooperating with ice in several ways. chief among them, it would have barred the state prison system from keeping someone in custody when ice requests the cdcr to do just that the bill would have also prevented the state prison system from providing ice with the prisoners release date and from transferring prisoners to directly to ice custody. but in a rare move before the bill even have its first committee hearing, governor newsom's office announced he will veto a be 15

or a bill like it if it reaches his desk. but the governor's office directing us to this message. the governor wrote when he vetoed a similar bill last year. newsom writing then, quote, i believe current law strikes the right balance on limiting interaction to support community trust and cooperation between law enforcement and local communities. for this reason, i cannot sign this bill. i think the governor is doing the right thing in this instance and i disagree with him on a regular basis. that's the reaction from republican us. i'm a member, cho patterson. he believes the state should cooperate with ice poll after poll shows that people are concerned about crime. why would we possibly not work with our federal partners on immigration enforcement for criminals were talking about criminals, not a person here hardworking. we're talking about people who work in prison. the governor's office notes since newsom took office in 2019. the state prison system has notified and coordinated with ice to transfer 10,588 prisoners into their cuscody. >> prisoners, the governor's

office says including murderers, rapists and violent offenders. they should be deported in our state should be working with the federal government to get them back out of this country. so continue to victimize people in this state. as for the future of ab 15, its main author, carson democratic assemblymember mike gibson said in the statement that he in his words introduced ab 15 with the intention of addressing an important issue. but the statement went on to say gibson is amending the bill to focus on in an entirely different issue. cold cases and resources for violent crime victims. patterson says he was happy to hear the original bill has been changed. of course, democrats changed the bill because the governor said what every californian things, which is this is an extremist policy and to be clear, even with newsom's announcement, california is still what many describe as a sanctuary state which in most cases prevents local law enforcement from cooperating with ice reporting at the state tom wallace kron 4 news.

unfortunately it we brought a lawsuit with other couples and city of san francisco. one, the freedom to marry again. and now just 11 years after 2015 were on the 10th anniversary of marriage equality being the law of the land nation wide. >> so are you feeling, you know, things are are kind of pendulum is swinging. i guess i don't need to remind you of that. do feel supported and safe in san francisco in the face of things becoming on a little less certain and downright hostile elsewhere. >> well, definitely in uncertain times. really free and the history of these marriages in san francisco city hall is a bedrock we return to that. fortifies for whatever comes. and also we return to our wedding vows to

be together for better or for worse. and we've seen many ups and downs already in the struggle for equal rights. we've seen our marriage rights granted under marriage rights, taken away, but we want them back. i think the lesson of that israeli summarized in the slogan of our movement, which is love wins. we really believe in the end that the marriage us from san francisco city hall for a beacon of hope to the country and really to the entire world that love will prevail. that's a message we take from being legally married. now for many years it fortifies its for whatever struggles we have yet to you mentioned the world and we're out of time. so this will be the final question. i know you've been to japan and other countries. >> talking to people about lgbtq+ struggles and >> your situation sharing your story. what have you learn doing? so what is your position on on where the world stands right now?

to take the red right? >> it's beautiful today. my goodness, the rain, the rain has been dissipating. the clouds have been dissipating. we're left with driest atmosphere temperatures mainly in the 50's at this hour. although fairfield still managed 60's, okay. wind gusts. they pretty impressive today and now they're starting to die down past sunset or so when will not be a factor in our forecast is very, very light at this point, sir. that is great news. but what's at the coastline that are that's very, very high. waves up to 45 foot. high waves triggering a high surf warning and that's till 3 o'clock tomorrow morning. so surf is up for sure. you don't want to swim in that. but fort fort future cast does show the possibility of some rain drops. a few rain drops on sunday. it's a chance of rain. we dried up for monday and tuesday and then wednesday, does that look impressive loops, that front kind of fell apart? so there's a slight chance for a few raindrops may be on wednesday, other than that, we have a dry week on top, although with cold tomorrow morning, yet

another frost advisories in effect. the temperatures could drop down toward freezing in the north bay inland valleys and down in the santa clara, ture eastern hills tempe wise. it will be chilly tomorrow morning. many areas remaining in the 40's, but some down in 30's forecast highs tomorrow. a little bit warmer than today. so that's good news. warming up to 50's and even some low 60's. great news. and here's a look ahead that all important 7 day forecast showing temperatures going through a warming trend, especially as we head toward tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday. and again, those slight chance of rain wednesday and a slight chance of rain on this actually this sunday. so happy valentine's day. all right. thank you, kathy. vice president jd vance. >> is taking charge in the talks to end the russia-ukraine war. he met with ukraine's president today. kron four's washington correspondent maddie beer-temple has more on how the meeting went. >> both world leaders say this meeting was a step toward

chase is where we find one of kron four's rising stars ben ross. >> it's there today, ben, this is huge. has a goat. grant. i appreciate that. but i think i'm way past the age of rising stars. i'm not nearly young enough to be in this game. it's been a lot of fun already out here, though. you can see the crowd behind me. they're starting to file in tip off at 6 o'clock for the rising stars challenge. you know, it's interesting to sort of change the format this year. it's not just one game for the all-star game. it's a tournament of 4 teams. and that's the same format tonight with the rising stars challenge. you got 3 teams of the top rookies and sophomores in the nba. >> and one team of the best g league players. now the warriors are represented on 3 of those teams. brandon projects, guy trayce jackson-davis and pat spencer all participating tonight on different teams and it's a tournament format. the winners of the first 2 games will play

hear from brandon projects got his thoughts. you might have already talked about this, but the whole weekend is already underway because over in oakland at the oakland arena that got the celebrity game going on our air and wilson is over there. she'll have a report coming up later tonight. there's a lot going on in the bay area this weekend. the all-star game here for the first time in 25 years. i know i'm looking forward to it and it seems like everybody else's 2 guys reporting live at chase center. ben brawn for sports celebs are here and our sports teams deployed all over. ben ross, appreciate it. >> thanks, ben. lots going in southern california. first responders in the eaton fire burn zone. they're keeping an eye out on the charred hillsides as the region is dealing with the impacts of heavy rain. it's been tough. reporter talk to. >> people who are dealing with that and he has the story. >> a steady to heavy rain is saturating the unstable burn-scar areas in altadena. a public works. crews continue to work around the clock using

dozers to clear out a catch basin. it near a charred home in the foothills. i was stay during the fire and staying in my i'm not going anywhere. all the areas under an evacuation warning. iran isn't going anywhere. he's keeping close watch of the conditions at his home. they came and they did those green. the things the sandbags, defense and bags. >> they put the even logs of on the top of so they did amazing job to the point. i don't need to do anything. >> sheriff's deputies are searching preposition in high-risk mud. debris areas were just looking for any any types of slides. any problems with traffic flow. >> this led us teams patrolling with their specialized vehicle. we have countdowns that usually used in our river to help our homeless population. we brought these vehicles out here just in case that some of the patrol vehicles, if a landslide does occur, we can use these vehicles to assist

our our brothers and sisters in the community. if we need to get in and out of an area really quickly. >> in flood advisory is in effect for los angeles county, including potential impacts for roadway flooding, rockslides and shell debris flows. the highest concern is in and around recent burn scars and steep terrain. everybody's on the same page as we prepare for the worse, especially when given the evacuation order. >> and that was carlos saucedo reporting for us from altadena. a treacherous travel up the sierras. heavy snow has been just dumping down. this is a live look right now. it the donner lake area, nevada, chp truckee says it. there have been several spin outs and significant delays all along the major highways up there in the high country. officials say that a lot of traffic has been trying to move through in those conditions. and crews are trying to keep up. >> we just ask the people, you know, they have visions, bring a blanket, bring snacks, do

quickly drop off into the 40's and before, you know, some 30's overnight tonight. so overall, we're looking good. what a storm. it has been all around the state, not just a bay area. saw the snow in the high country and the unfortunate flooding in parts of southern california with that heavy rainfall moving on by now we're getting on the backside of this. looks like as we get in toward the weekend, think should shape up to be pretty good outside right now. yeah, not bad out there. we've got some dry conditions into much of california. that's looking good so far, just some passing clouds over the mountain tops in the high country. you're still looking at some scattered light. snow showers up toward the tahoe area. but overall, things kind of drying out up there, too. and i think that's going to set the stage for really nice weekend. if you're headed up there. stepping outside, going to see a couple passing clouds and some cooler temperatures as we head through the evening hours. if you want to enjoy the festivities on this valentine's day, make sure you dress warmly if you're heading on out those temperatures going to be cooling off into the 40's and 50's by 7 o'clock this evening. if you're headed
