the masses, as you can probably see behind me are starting to file in for night. one of the 3 night all-star extravaganza. it is the rising stars game, which includes some of the outstanding first and second year players from around the nba. and suffice it to say your golden state warriors are well represented. >> we've got pat spencer in the game. we got trayce jackson-davis in the game and we have brandon budzinski in the game. the guy they call potts who is certainly earned his term. rising star scored 18 points in last night's game over he against houston but fired up to be in this game. but you know what he would mind and even bigger honor down the road freshman sophomore. >> our goal is to be an all-star. want to. and so to have this kind of many opportunity of playing in the all-star game without being an all-star. it's just bringing that competitive spirit will make the the guys that have been all stars. you know, 10, 15 times, you know, play

harder. and i that's what everybody wants to see. >> also today, the finalists for this year's nba hall of fame class or basketball hall of fame class. i should say it's not just the nba were announced their 17 finalist, no real local ties, former warriors, anything like that. but there are some big names, a few of which you see on your screen, carmelo anthony, bird and maya moore among the finalists. they will have that final announcement of who gets in on april. the 5th couple more notes on what we will see tonight. much like the all-star game on sunday. this is ne 14, many tournament and it just so happens that 3 of the teams will be coached by chris smalling, tim hardaway and mitch richmond or your great. so again, tying it all back to the bay area and perhaps the biggest aspect of tonight is that the winner of the 14, many tournament here in the rising stars game will get to compete with the big boys. the actual all-star tournament on sunday. so grant vicki, a lot on the line here

nba's all-star weekend. you can always head to our website. kron 4 dot com will be posting everything you need to vents celebrities, athletes, they're all here in the bay. we got you covered. on top of all-star weekend. we mentioned tomorrow's the lunar new year parade and fair in san francisco. lots of streets will be closed until sunday night at 11 o'clock because of that. and a lot of streets are going to start closing tonight 11. so the whole weekend. tomorrow's parade is from market street to union square that starts at 05:15pm, muni is offering free rides both tomorrow and sunday. as we mentioned, too, make getting around much easier accept cable cars right? >> and now let's take a look at a live at the city. it's a dry and actually the weather is cooperating for this fabulous weekend, right, lawrence? yeah, you know, so much going on this weekend. you got the all-star game. you got right. your parade right? >> is it that comes in the

middle of winter? and so it could be very dicey as far as the weather's concerned. but i think in a workout just great. if you are headed out one of the most beautiful praise that you'll ever see might want to bring. the earplugs are a lot of firecrackers out there, too. but >> the weather is going to cooperate. a lot of clouds out there. dress warmly. it will be a little bit chilly out there. a couple clouds rolling on by. but what a beautiful sight. it is going to be the site of the sounds. of course, all that wonderful food you want to get out there and enjoy. meantime, though, looking out toward quite hour in san francisco, your skies have cleared out. we are getting ready for a valentine's night and it looks like a nice one to a bit on the cold side in spots. no getting around that but dry. how about that? temperatures in the 50's around the bay area. little cool in spots. so if you're headed out the door, be prepared for that. doppler radar finally showing a break and all that stormy weather, at least here. but we're still see some lingering snow showers in the high country. the storm system just kind of winding down but should be a nice night ahead. what about your weekend? we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes.

>> thanks. alerts due to dangerous high surf. the santa cruz wharf is closed today. this precaution came after a december storm, not part of the peer into the ocean. the city plans to reopen the work tomorrow with everything checks out and it's safe for people. >> debris cleanup continues in the north bay after a mudslide last night blocked parts of the freeway highway 101, southbound direction. it's been reduced from 4 lanes down to just 2 pasta sausalito and it's going to be a while before those lanes reopened. kron four's dan kerman reports. >> those heading from the north bay into san franciscu friday, we're discovering there were 2 fewer lanes, the normal just past the sausalito exit. the 2 right lanes were closed. so caltrans crews could continue cleaning up debris from a landslide that occurred during the storms thursday evening. right now it's really getting all this debris. there's you can see those trees shrubs all around here. there's a few more we might want remove to make sure

that there's no issues with that. bulldozers were digging away friday at loose dirt. >> as well as cleaning up what it already fallen. now, cleaning up debris is just the first step. the next step will be to put in a concrete barrier along the slide area. the idea being if more debris falls, it will not come into the roadway. >> caltrans says this is a common area for landslides during the rainy season. >> and as such, they'll continue to monitor this location as well as a few others are. engineers are going to take a look a little bit higher up on the mountain. >> to see if there's anything else that needs to be done here. we've had some slides up further on the one freeway are some areas in the south bay. we're looking at fortunately for state route. 37, we haven't seen flooding taking over that. we're watching that one, too. >> in marin county, dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> thank you, dan. still ahead, layoffs begin at the cdc. the a surprising number of people forced out just this morning. >> what's in a rare move? governor newsom vows to veto a bill that would prevent prison

>> get a load of this. san francisco city officials are confirming 3 guys claiming to be from the department of government efficiency or doge. tried to enter their offices today and get info. they were dressed in doge shirts where the red maga hats, according to the sheriff's office, they went into these offices at city hall around noon today and demanded employees

turnover digital information. the employees refuse call the sheriff's office. but these men left before deputies got there. the sheriff's office doesn't think these people were actually representatives from doge. president trump created do it when he took office in january and he has put elon musk in charge of that. >> new details in the investigation into the killing of 2 shorts, brother wayne shaw, oakland police arrested my she jackson yesterday in connection to the homicide. shaw was shot and killed 2 weeks ago on 40th avenue near east 12th street in oakland outside of a cannabis business opd still investigating and looking for additional suspects. no plea today from omar torres, the former san jose city council member is charged with several felony counts of child molestation. he was expected to enter a plea in court this morning, but did not do so. he is scheduled to be back in court next month. torres has been

held in custody without bail ever since his arrest last november. >> new details tonight and that american airlines flight that crashed mid-air with the black hawk helicopter last month killed 67 people, washington correspondent vinaysimlot now walks us through what we've just learned about the final moments. >> the final 2 minutes before the midair crash between an american airlines jet and a black hawk helicopter were marked by altitude discrepancies and broken air traffic control transmissions. the ntsb most of the chairwoman says at 8.46, air traffic control first told the black hawk helicopter to look out for the passenger plane already configured to land circling to runway 33, but she says the cockpit voice recorder didn't pick up the whole message. we do not here. >> the word circling on the cvr of the black hawk at 8. 47 19 seconds before impact. the ntsb says the airplane crew got a traffic alert. 17 seconds before air traffic

control told the helicopter to pass behind the airplane. >> but the ntsb says helicopter pilots didn't hear it. the black hawk with king the mic to communicate with atc one 0nd before the crash. investigators say the airplane's nose was pointed up. the climbing controls to the max. the ntsb says that impact the helicopter was at 258 feet. it should have been at 200. the ntsb chair says it's still determining what exactly led to the crash, even with the recent accidents. data shows the safest way for americans to travel. >> it's on a commercial flight. >> on our nation's roads are 95% of all transportation deaths. the ntsb is expected to release its preliminary report by the end of the month in washington. i'm simlot. >> hey, check it out. palisades tahoe says the storm that we just said has brought them almost 3 feet of fresh powder. if you're heading up

to this year this weekend, speed, phys, the truckee, chp says, you know, ther is snow out there. they've been trying to clear it off the road, but they say you slow down and the alert. if there are chain controls in place, they expect nearly a foot more of snow by tomorrow morning. our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here with the forecast up in the high country. hey lourdes. yeah. something else. i mean, quiet january. then they just got hammered last week and a half or so here still coming down. >> in parts of the high country to the sierra getting hit with some snow. but boy, if you can get up there, you can enjoy some beautiful powder this weekend really work out. kind of nice. these last 2 weekends yet that snow during the week and then the weekend comes, clears out and boy, you get a chance to get up there and ski. look at the diamond peak right now. you can see all the snow there on the ground. the beautiful trees covered in some of that snow as well. and just a wonderful time to be up there. if you're already up there getting up there, that's a different story. got to drive through all this stuff. and still some lingering snow showers policy going to see

some delays if you're headed up that way. but this storm system really winding down. now there's just not much energy left with it. so around lake tahoe right now, getting a little bit quieter outside. still a couple leftover snow showers out there. but overall, i think we're looking at a really nice weekend ahead, something to watch out for him. this is just for a short time now. they're still an avalanche warning in effect for the back country, not the main ski resorts there do a good job of maintaining a much of the snow there. but you had the back country got to be really careful. we've had all this nor storms coming in. they all have different tendencies with them. we've got a warmer storm. got colder storm. so sometimes you get that really fluffy snow. sometimes you get that real thick moisture content, snow and they start to make what's come look like layers on the cake and eventually some of those will slide. if you get on top of that. so you got to watch out the back country as that snow is kind of piled up again. and certainly possibility of some of that happening. but boy, it's going to be a great weekend up there. if you're headed up there for the valentine's day weekend. how about that? partly cloudy skies. really?

some temperatures, not all that bad 40's out there. and of course, they've got feet of snow to ski on. i mean, it just came down and i was on blast, you know, hundreds e-mails from all these guys up in the sierra nevada saying it's amazing up there, feet of snow on there. and this weekend it clears out winds will calm down to ensure great week and the skin are lee scheme. they know exactly. yeah. well, they're get into but it's good. i mean, i love for the bay area. people love to get up there and looks like a great weekend to do thanks, lawrence. thanks. >> i love is in the air this valentine's day. 250 couples got married at san francisco city hall this today. mayor daniel lurie officiated his first wedding since taking office. he says that he was honored to marry couples on such a special weekend for the city. >> it's in air. i was thinking lunar new year parade in nba all-star weekend. and now we've 250 weddings here today. it's just a great weekends.

there are great vibes here in san francisco. >> that's 10 times the normal amount on a typical day, office of the county clerk officiates about 28 city hall weddings. >> and in the theme of love, it has now been 21 years since the so-called winter of love, long before same marriage was legalized across the u.s.. it was a tradition for activists to go to san francisco city hall on valentine's day to request marriage licenses. they knew they'd be shut down. but in 2004, hey, it worked. then-mayor gavin newsom authorize the county clerk to issue marriage licenses to the couple's. they lasted for a month. the california supreme court invalidated all the same marriage licenses. today we spoke with john lewis and stuart gaffney, one of the first couples who got married that day. >> we really believe in the end. >> that the marriage us from san francisco city hall or a beacon of hope.

>> the trump administration is forcing out more than 1000 employees at the centers for disease control and prevention. that's roughly 10% of the agency's workforce. the workers were on probationary status. that means that they were new hires and veteran staffers who were recently promoted the agency's leadership was notified of the decision this morning. it is the latest effort by the administration to get rid of all probationary government employees affected. workers are supposed to receive 4 weeks paid administrative leave. well, ed prices are hitting an all-time high due to the widespread bird flu outbreak here in the u.s. jessi turnure reports the congress now wants to help protect more farmers. >> there are no we do have. >> ig's a nationwide shortage of eggs is ruffling feathers in those eggs have hit an
