state prison system from keeping someone in custody when ice requests the cdcr to do just that the bill would have also prevented the state prison system from providing ice with the prisoners release date and from transferring prisoners to directly to ice custody. but in a rare move before the bill even had its first committee hearing, governor newsom's office announced he will veto a be 15 or a bill like it if it reaches his desk that the governor's office directing us to this message. the governor wrote when he vetoed a similar bill last year. newsom writing then quote, i believe current law strikes the right balance on limiting interaction to support community trust and cooperation between law enforcement and local communities. for this reason, i cannot sign this bill. i think the governor is doing the right thing in this instance and i disagree with him on a regular basis. that's the reaction from republican us. i'm a member, cho patterson. he believes the state should cooperate with ice poll after poll shows that people are concerned about crime. why would we possibly

democrats changed the bill because the governor said what every californian things, which is this is an extremist policy and to be clear, even with newsom's announcement, california is still what many describe as a sanctuary state which in most cases prevents local law enforcement from cooperating with ice reporting at the state tom wallace kron 4 news. >> new details tonight in the investigation into the killing of 2 shorts, brother wayne shaw, oakland police have arrested margie jackson yesterday. he's connected to the homicide, according to police. was shot and killed 2 weeks ago on 49th ave near east 12th street in oakland outside a cannabis business. the opd is still investigating and they say they're looking for more suspects. >> to the north by now, a santa rosa police are searching for a man who they say sexually assaulted a girl in a movie theater. take a look at your screen there. police are sharing this sketch of the suspect. they say the assault happened in the roxy stadium. 14 theater on santa

rosa avenue over the summer last year, but wasn't reported until november due to the trauma associated with it. the teenage victim says that the suspect followed her into the lobby, pulled her to the ground and assaulted her. police have not been able to identify the suspect. >> this city and santa clara valley water district are working to remove hundreds of people this year who were camping along waterways. they want to get them into interim site is set to welcome more than 200 unhoused people later this month. the development on brenham lane is said to cost about 6 millioni dollars to operate. mayor mahan spoke with us today on kron. 4 news at noon about how funding this is getting a step closer to helping the city's homeless population to get to what he calls a functional 0. functional 0 is.

>> yeah, i mean, finally getting a chance to get away from it all because all of a sudden the weather is going to cooperate. things quieting down weather-wise. >> kind of this week, right? we've had some big storms out there up towards sfo right now. it's cold out there. the winds not howling out toward a self, a little breezy out there. but still no lays be reported. sfo, oakland or san jose are all looking good about the monterey bay. if you want to head in that direction this weekend, well, it should be dry. >> temperatures 50 to 60 tomorrow will be a little chilly to start out the day tomorrow. little frost early on in the morning. southern california, of course. well, they've had a rough go of it. they have the flooding there yesterday. some mudslides to temperatures tomorrow, dry conditions should be in the mid, maybe some upper 60's and some of the warmest parts of southern california and the high country. they've had a ton of snow up there, 2 to 4 feet across some of the peaks there. lot of the resorts as much as 31 inches of snow. i mean, just amazing. so if you get up there, they're always going to be opening up and tomorrow should be a great day up there as well. temperatures hovering in the 30's in the

40's and all that fresh powder to ski on. should be a beautiful day tomorrow. sunday doesn't look too bad. and then as we get to monday, we start to cloud things up again. but overall, i think the weekend looks fantastic. if you want to head that speaking of the slopes, how about this? heavenly at 21 inches of snow. they've got all that fresh powder to enjoy and 114 trails are open palisades. 31 inches over the last 24 hours. currently, 59 trails are open. and if you want to head the sugar bowl, they've got 139 inches at the summit. they've got 73 trails for you to get out there and enjoy out there tonight. yep, it is valentine's night and there you go. little busy out there on the roads. really busy coming into san francisco today. and if you are heading on out skies, stay mostly clear will be a little bit chilly outside. grab your jacket you head out the door. temperatures dropping off into the 40's. all right, republicans at the state legislature just introduced to >> handful of bills on gender in schools and one of those bills will require school athletics and campus bathrooms

and changing rooms to be based on assigned at birth and not on a student's gender identity. another bill that would allow parents to opt their children out of instruction or subjects related to gender identity or changing genders. >> how 42 partly ignoring the rights of our parents saying no. to being in forms. about their children what they're going through. >> we have yet to hear from opposition on these specific bills. but in the past, democrats and lgbtq+ advocates have opposed similar legislation amid concerns that they're not inclusive and harmful to students. transgender people are now banned from enlisting in the u.s. army. the military branch announced the new policy on its social media page today, adding that they are also ending gender affirming care for service members. both change is effective immediately. the change comes just weeks after president trump signed an executive

order calling for a revision of gender policy in the military. in the wake of the order, 6 active duty service members filed a lawsuit challenging that ban. >> today we're learning more about what happened in those final moments right before that deadly midair collision in washington, d.c.. >> more than 60 people were killed when a military helicopter and a passenger jet collided. our washington correspondent vinaysimlot reports the final 2 minutes before the midair crash between an american airlines jet and a black hawk helicopter were marked by altitude discrepancies and broken air traffic control transmissions. the ntsb most of the chairwoman says at 8.46, air traffic control first told the black hawk helicopter to look out for the passenger plane already configured to land circling to runway 33, but she says the cockpit voice recorder didn't pick up the whole message. we do not here. >> the word circling on the cvr of the black hawk at 8. 47

19 seconds before impact. the ntsb says the airplane crew got a traffic alert. 17 seconds before air traffic control told the helicopter to pass behind the airplane. but the ntsb says helicopter pilots didn't hear the black hawk with keying the mic to communicate with atc one 0nd before the crash. investigators say the airplane's nose was pointed up. the climbing controls to the max. the ntsb says that impact the helicopter was at 258 feet. it should have been at 200. the ntsb chair says it's still determining what exactly led to the crash, even with the recent accidents. data shows the safest way for americans to travel. >> it's on a commercial flight. >> on our nation's roads are 95% of all transportation deaths. the ntsb is expected to release its preliminary report by the end of the month in washington. i'm today simlot.

>> new at 6, the woman who accused jay z and sean diddy combs of her when she was 13 has withdrawn her lawsuit. she'd said jay z and did he attacked her in 2000 after diddy's limo driver offered her a ride to an mtv video music awards after party. the woman's attorney did not say why she's now withdrawing the suit. jay z is calling the decision a victory and says the quote, fictional tale. she and her lawyers created was laughable. >> growing fallout for new york mayor eric adams following the justice department's attempt to drop federal corruption case against him only to have federal prosecutors in new york officials allege even more corruption by both the mayor and the trump white house. henry rosoff has more. >> a rallying outside city hall immigrant advocates and lawmakers say mayor eoic adams has sold them out by cooperating with the trump white house on mass deportation in exchange for

his federal corruption case being dropped. is a moment of serious crisis for new york city. the mayor is so deeply compromised. mayor adams has now agreed to let ice agents on rikers island and into nypd intelligence briefings. it came just days after a justice department memo that ordered his case be dismissed. but with the possibility it could be brought back acting u.s. attorney daniel sassoon resigned thursday night saying this all appears to be part of a quid pro quo. she alleges adams attorney repeatedly promised cooperation on immigration in exchange for the trump justice department. moving to make the charges go away. then a wave of additional federal prosecutors also resigned, all refusing to dismiss the case against adams, which they described as solid appearing friday morning on fox news with white house border czar tom homan. mayor adams as going after violent criminals in the country illegally is just the right thing to do. and neither he nor his attorney ever made any illegal promises. it took a 3

weeks to report in a criminal action. come on. this is but during the same sit down, there was eyebrow raising moment. we're home and made a thinly veiled threat against the mayor. if he doesn't come back of your actions and we want to on the his up a visit. >> now governor kathy hochul says she will discuss the possibility of removing mayor adams with other leaders. >> if that happens, public advocate jumaane williams would become mayor for that reason. he's been hesitant to call on adams to resign but walked right up to the line on an upcoming episode of pix on politics. what's best for the city of new york is not this mayor because it is clear is making decisions. >> not in the best interest of new york. >> and just late this afternoon, president trump weighed in. he was asked about all the prosecutors who resigned, refusing to dismiss the mayor's case. >> when you say reside there going to be gun anyway, but i know nothing about the individual case. i know that they didn't feel as much of a also felt that. it was unfair

with the election. >> so the president saying he is not personally familiar with the mayor's case but feels it was brought for political reasons. president trump incorrectly says all these prosecutors resigning were from the biden administration and were on their way out. but that's not the case. the top 2 prosecutors who resigned are well, they clerked for conservative supreme court justices. president trump himself appointed one of them to leave the new york prosecutor's office on an interim basis. >> still to come. the nba celebrity game part all-star weekend just wrapped up in oakland. a lot of laughs. even a few bucket star aaron wilson was there. we'll have a full recap recap after this.

>> they tonight both here in san francisco and across the bay in oakland. got the chinese new year parade tomorrow. it's just a huge weekend. the celebrity game part of all-star weekend just wrapped up that oakland arena, former home of the dubs. that's where we find kron. 4 sports reporter erin wilson. aaron, how are things? >> well, i'm here the oakland coliseum grant, and it was a fun game. you know, this is meant to be a fun of it with all the celebrities coming in and putting their basketball skills to the test and they were able to do that. now on the professional side, ricky jackson out of the la sparks and kayla is now a part of the golden state valkeries.

obviously shining stars when it comes to atlanta in actually being able to play the sport of basketball, leading everyone else on their team to kind of make the right move, spread the floor, do what they needed to do now in the in, it was team barry bond that came out on top. now. team rice actually played pretty well for quite some time. but halftime and down towards the end of the stretch of the game, it was barry bonds. team was able to kind of corralled together and find a way to win on this team were guys like haifa, not and like i ricky jackson, she played on that team as well and that had a great time as well. with the one that when i who was talking the most noise out there. >> the name is what came up specifically to ricky jackson went to a few of the players as well. but they all say they love playing with take. a listen to kayla thornton, though, because after the game, i was actually able to talk to her not only about her time there here in all-star, but about the dow curry's as well. and her plans being that

brother klay thompson joining him and wnba superstar caitlin clark pairing with us q for a 2 on 2 battle of the sexes. shootout. but clark recently said she wants her first 3 point shootout to be in the upcoming wnba all-star game. the nba was still trying to work something out as recently as this week. but they just couldn't come up with a format. anything that's satisfied all parties. so curry will just focus on all he's hosting duties and playing in the tournament sunday, which is fine. but a little bit disappointing for all the fans out there. >> i let's talk a little out there. it's barca darrow can't really tell. but, you know, we were talking about all the cars and things slowing up. a new look too bad. >> not too bad. here's lawrence. yeah, guys. little cold out there. if you are headed out there on this valentine's evening with temperatures dropping off in the 40's in some spots and the chileans that the air. but otherwise it's nice and dry

outside. that's something to be enjoyable. but we are going to see some changes coming our way as we look toward a very cold night parts of the bay area frost developing in the north bay and really just east of the mountains there of san jose. so cold night ahead for the bay area. these overnight lows. i'm going to be the 30's in the 40's. so cold night ahead as we're going to see some clea'ing skies around the bay area. some dry weather make a return. but then tomorrow a few clouds begin to move in, although it's going to stay dry. the temperatures well keep in the 50's and some low 60's around the bay area. but again, some dry weather on saturday. slight chance of showers as we look towards sunday, mainly north of the golden gate bridge, then we get into next week. i think mostly dry week ahead. that being said, there's another slight chance of a couple raindrops on wednesday. here's the best news of all. if you want to check out one of the coolest parades of all, you're looking at the chinese new year's parade that happens tomorrow. it should be nice and dry if you're headed out there. a lot of clouds temperature about 51 degrees but chilly guys. thanks, lauren. if you're at home this
