7.16 this gorgeous morning. a live look outside now at the city of san francisco. looks like a bit of fog out there at this hour, but hoping for a beautiful day for the nba all-star weekend and also the parade. kathy. >> it's a beautiful day. it's really an exciting weekend. there's just so much going on across the bay area. and yet some people might actually want to go to the sierra and you can't blame to have awful lot really fresh snow. a lot of it landed on thursday. so it's 48 hour totals in some places are very impressive. here's you 70. this is like a picture. perfect image of the step away. you can see the effect here. we are looking at diamond peak where there were 42 inches of fresh snow in 48 hours. so that's fantastic. 54 inches in mount rose, not ski area and also at mammoth, 15 inches of snow. but careful if you're driving there because you know what? icy roads, patches ice could be really a problem. as you head up to the
7:18 am
passes. how are we doing in terms of sierra snowpack? well, very well, indeed, in terms of a northern sierra, but central and southern sierra, we've got a little bit of work to do, as you can see temperatures this afternoon and tomorrow afternoon and after that into monday, just lovely and sin that lake tahoe numbers mainly in the mid 40's. but there's a chance of some precipitation that would be rain and snow on sunday. here's a sierra future cast. you can see that pass of snow and precipitation very briefly. and then we go back to normal weather now in terms of big area weather, very tranquil at the coastline down. no more high surf advisories. and here's what's in future for us in terms of precipitation. will you know what tomorrow? we could see a few raindrops that would be especially in the morning. this is not like this is not a big deal is as light rain and it's not a sure thing more likely in the north bay, then the rest of the bay area. we get a break again for tuesday
7:19 am
and then look what happens on wednesday. another possibility of just a few raindrops. it's a chance, a slight chance. but still we'll keep that going other than that. it's really a not a very active weather pattern compared to what we've seen so recently. so we get a break more or less from the rain where we do see a few raindrops. it's just a few counting it mainly and hundreds of an inch as you can see, sunday's totals could be as much as maybe 31 hundredths of an inch in nevada, not even a 3rd of an inch lot areas may be less than a 10th of an inch livermore. 607 inch half moon bay about a 3rd of an inch. there's a little bit of rain in our future, possibly. and then again, on wednesday into thursday, not much just little sprinkling here. and there. so quarter of an inch, maybe in san jose and to do for san francisco and for napa. so got a little bit of rain but not enough to get terribly excited about not enough to really change your plans for this morning bay area, cold inland temperatures specially in the
7:20 am
inland valleys of the north bay. there's a frost advisory there as well as the east bay hills. dry conditions, though, all day long and all evening long for us. so all of the celebrations of chinese new year, the parade, in good shape for that. but the next chances of rain again are on sunday and wednesday. forecast high temperatures today. a little warmer than yesterday's temperatures. he's a little bit closer to normal. san francisco topping out at 59 a few areas in the 60's napa. 61 degrees. 61 for livermore saturday. 63 degrees and today's highs. then num number's. i actually quite beautiful. so back to you, stephanie. all right, kathy, thank you so much. >> area drivers are back to paying more at the pump. aaa says over the last week, california saw nearly $0.30 increase for a gallon of gas. the state average is around 4.84. that's up from 4.58 a week ago. sonoma county is paying the highest at more than 5.24. an average. the cheapest cast gas can be found in santa clara at just under

of rain mainly in north bay tomorrow. then we dry things out once again and it would be just a okay. >> so what we've got going on is it's cool. it's been so cold overnight under mostly clear skies that we got to really chilly conditions. and now the clouds have started to move in. in fact, there could be some dense fog advisories have put in place, especially areas where the temperatures dropped to the dew point, the fog forms and it's so cold. there's a possibility of freezing fog. and that translates to tough driving conditions because it could be black ice conditions. so if you head toward a valley where those fog the extra careful as you go out and drive other than that, today would be beautiful as the warming temperatures started to rise, a frost advisory goes away. we're in for a lovely day, albeit mostly cloudy, stephanie. >> governor newsom is valley to veto a bill that would prevent the state prison system from cooperating with ice. capitol correspondent eytan wallace explains.
7:32 am
>> well, i cannot stress to not. it is extremely rare for the governor to weigh in on a bill before it reaches his desk. but as pertains to this legislation calling on the state prison system not to cooperate with ice. the governor did weigh in hoping to send a strong message. he will veto it. and so the california prison system cooperate with ice and federal immigration enforcement. that is the very issue is something bill 15 tried to get out when it was originally authored in december. >> in most cases it would have prevented the california department of corrections and rehabilitation or cdcr from cooperating with ice in several ways. chief among them, it would have barred the state prison system from keeping someone in custody when ice requests the cdcr to do just that the bill would have also prevented the state prison system from providing ice with the prisoners release date and from transferring prisoners to directly to ice custody. but in a rare move before the bill even had its first committee hearing, governor newsom's office announced he will veto a be 15

right. welcome back. a 44 this morning live look outside at sfo. it's looking a bit cold out there. kathy, what do you think? >> you're totally right, stephanie. it is cold out there. how cold guess what? there's a frost advisory in effect. >> for the north bay, the inland valleys there and also for the eastern santa clara hills. but that's about to expire. is the sun has risen was starting warm up the temperatures just a little bit. but look at this picture. perfect image from mount tam up ice. it looks like a painting. doesn't it all setback? you can just enjoy that view because it is just spectacular temperatures now. yes, still a few areas are in the 30's, but mainly now into the 40's will warm things up into the 50's and even the 60's as the day wears on under mostly cloudy skies. now we do have the clouds, but its dry today. that's the great news for all of our new year celebrations for the parade, things look to be dry, but rain drops are on the way. so
8:46 am
first round of rain drops right here right across the north bay, especially tomorrow morning. but it's not a whole lot. so we're counting it in hundreds of an inch, maybe tenths of an inch. we dry out. we're mostly cloudy, then on monday and tuesday. and goodness gracious again wednesday, precipitation across parts of northern california. snow in the sierra nevada and a few drops of rain chant, you know. but still we got to put that in the forecast overall. this is a fairly calm pattern compared to what we experienced the last couple of weeks because no atmospheric rivers. so here you go. in terms of rainfall amounts, not terribly impressive. we're going to go for maybe a quarter of an inch, a 3rd of an inch and a very wet in spots of the north bay and less, not many other spots. so if you're going to head out today in the afternoon, but for numbers, mainly in the 50's and even if you're at the coastline, even for the bay shoreline, still in the 50's and then we start to head south. it warms up just a little bit going to the upper 50's around mountain
8:47 am
view and then into this low, 60 61 in palo alto. 63 in san jose. that's where warm spots that in santa clara at 63 degrees east bay looking lovely. many areas in the 60's were going to go for temperatures. this is much warmer than yesterday. we were mainly in the 50's yesterday and we have mostly cloudy skies. so that keeps us. and from really hitting the ground and warming up the ground and warming up the air. but still, it's more than that. that's an improvement and certainly is pretty close to normal in terms of the next 7 days. here's your extended outlook. there's a warming trend. how about that? it's dry for today. a little splash of rain tomorrow, possibly especially in the north, a little splash again and the chance of rain on wednesday. but it's fairly calm. it's mild. the winds are fairly gentle. so it's all good. we're in for a wonderful week. stephanie. kathy, thank you so much. a social media star and chef is bringing her culinary talent to the bay area to launch an exciting new vietnamese inspired menu. sure
