easy day to be outside in general. mother nature is giving us a really nice week ahead of us today is actually going to be one of your cooler days of this week's forecast. let's look at the coastline. a few clouds out there. it's partly cloudy for sure. this morning, but we will see more and more peeks of sunshine towards the afternoon. radar is looking nice and quiet. a little bit of fog up around santa rosa. but most of what the rest of us are seeing is some mid-level clouds just rolling across the bay temperature wise. we're in the 40's to low 50's san mateo hayward, san francisco, low 50's for you. well, on the cooler side and santa rosa and fairfield vacaville are only spot that's actually dived into the upper 30's this morning. as for the rest of the day, look forward to some mostly sunny moments, but partly cloudy at other times. cool 50's to low 60's for your highs today. throwing the light jacket and you're pretty good to go for your monday. all right. thank you, john. quick check of the roads for you this morning. your bay bridge toll plaza camera shows you hardly any traffic there.

>> from oakland in the san francisco, 8 minutes right now to get over the bay. we've got a 13 minute drive across the san mateo bridge on westbound 92 from hayward out to foster city. you are richmond, sandra fell bridge right? 7 minutes to get from one end to the other. and then the last stop the golden gate bridge where, again, you're southbound 1, 1, right out of county into san francisco is moving with hardly any traffic. 71 right now in the south bay. we've got new details now about a deadly stabbing that happened in san jose on friday. we now know the victim was a 15 year-old boy. >> kron four's will tran on the story for us in san jose. will. >> james, we know the victim, but we don't know the suspect's. so this morning, the san jose police department, they are still searching for the suspects behind this. this all went down in santana row. a very posh shopping center in the south bay. there are so many cameras and this particular areas so they will be spending more time looking through that footage hoping to pass along

descriptions of the suspects to pass along to the public. now, this all went down at around 7.20, on valentine's day night at a time when thousands of people were out, you have to imagine it was probably date night for so many people. but despite all of that, it did not stop the suspects from attacking the victim. by the time the police officers arrived to the scene, the suspects they were long gone. so nobody here apprehended them. they did look at the victim, tried to save the victim's life at the scene and also rushed the victim to the hospital. but ultimately the injuries simp too much with that person to survive. and that person ended up dying at the hospital. i can tell you the san jose police department, they know who this person is, but they're not releasing his name. they're leaving it to another agency to pass that along to the public. as far as a motive behind us, they either don't know or are not saying a motive behind this deadly stabbing. the 15

year-old is san jose's. 3rd homicide. so far this year. back to you. all right. thank you. will. >> 703. now let's go to the east bay where sandra san leandro police were involved in a shooting that happened in ashland. >> on. >> it was just last night around 8.30. so the police were investigating a vehicular assault. and during that investigation, that's when the shooting happened. the suspect was taken into custody. 703, right now and search and rescue efforts have ended now for a man who fell from san francisco is piers. 32 on saturday night. this is video from the citizen app. you can see the flashing lights in the distance. that was the police response as they were looking for. this man who fell. a woman also fell and she was rescued and hospitalized. but responders could not find the man. we don't have any more details about his identity.

>> groups silicon valley are calling for the removal of the mural at the palo alto branch of the santa clara county superior court. the naacp, san jose silicon valley, along with the but maloney tribe say that the mural displaced colonialist imagery, which denigrates native americans. the courts, though, says it can't make a decision without county approval. the issue has been raised to the county. but at this point, county leaders have taken a position that that mural is a historical, piece of art and cannot be painted over the naacp plans to meet with county supervisors to discuss the issue further. >> where is the time? all right. well, in the south bay, the santa clara county office of education is planning layoffs. >> the office says that workers will be notified of their dismissal by march. 15th. the office hasn't said how many jobs will be cut. officials, though, say these layoffs are because of cuts in federal funding and grants that are expiring and it comes

as the office is looking for potential evidence of misspending under former superintendent mary and you want now the board of education voted to fire, do won back in october. but that sparked a lot of backlash from state lawmakers and educators and parents and independent audit by the board was turned over to the santa clara county district attorney in december. >> 705. and let's get on all-star weekend was wrapped up in san francisco at the chase center. and you can see a lot of fans spilling over into the outside there. it was a good show and a lot of the pros showing off. yeah. yeah. it was actually pretty fun to watch. they had all the various things. >> leading up to the big game on sunday at the dunk contest. yet the three-point think a lot of sporting events and skills contest. but as for the all-star game, well, kron 4 sports director scott reese has the highlights. >> the nba all-star game here in san francisco, the culmination of a weekend's worth of fun and entertainment. you had the

best basketball players on the planet all gathered under one roof. the game did not disappoint with steph curry being the kobe bryant, most valuable player. and we got our storybook ending. >> as celebration of a lot of great things happen in basketball to be playing with these guys for as long as we have light. it's obviously our spots come out, put on a show and i thank them for, you know, help do that and are and and go to state because, you know, a lot histories have been out here, but the competition and the camaraderie and the legacy that we operate is what it's all about. have to be a part of that celebration. it was way more. >> like fun, chaos. and i thought it would be there's so many moving parts and, you know, it takes like nba's really good at like putting stuff like this together. so many things behind the scenes that, you know, don't get talked about enough that go through the weekend, which was really special and cool to just be a part of that. obviously just being back home with my family and friends is really do for the weekend. it was, though week it was cool

to bay area came out show major so it's good reunite with so over teammate james curry is good on the floor you know, that that good weekend overall. >> now that the all-star game is in the rearview mirror, the warriors can enjoy the rest of their all-star break. they will reconvene for their next game on friday in sacramento. at chase center, scott reese kron 4 sports. >> well, for fans who couldn't get inside chase center, the fun literally overflowed into the shops and into the businesses all around thrive city. yeah. you didn't need a ticket for a lot of the bay area was excited about the big boom that we would get from business with this conference. jack moment has more. hundreds of people were piling in to thrive city on sunday to celebrate the final day of the nba all-star weekend. it also gave many folks who call san francisco home a chance to show off to the world what their city and also the bay area as a whole.

>> celebration for the end of a successful weekend in san francisco. the nba all-star weekend taking over the bay for the first time in 25 years. and you guys favorite part about the weekend. so just the festivities, the vibes, the coach of people lined up early to go through security and check themselves into the chase center for the all-star games. it's the first year they're hosting a mini tournament. but those tickets inside they cost an arm and a leg is good. that's been really good. actually, countless fans just like this couple from fresno drove hours to be here in the moment, taking it all i always grew up or at lemon bay area big giants niners fan. actually grew up not really watching basketball, but the gentle warrior games to come on after the giants games. so brother grew up watching the warrior games and became aware everything was a celebration. some fans were upset. the games weren't blasted on the big screen at the front of the chase center. yeah, i was hoping they're going to play it. but it's alright. we'll

>> welcome back to 7.14, nice view of the sunrise this morning from mount tam in a little bit. a low cloud cover in the mix. overall, though, this morning has been really nice and clear. you can see that we do have dry skies across the bay. showers are well to the north near the oregon border. that's where they're going to stay over the next couple of days. so today, tomorrow, beautiful days. and on top of that, a calm one ahead of us today, too. so very inviting president state. a venture outside wednesday is

the only disruption to this trying really steady trend of weather. we have as a low will dive in across the region. it's going to skirt right past us. so the north coast on wednesday is absolutely going to have her greatest rainfall. well, that bay area right at the edge of any sort of precipitation, potential. and that's for us. some really light totals expected towards the middle of the week. you can see that reflected in your future cast of rainfall totals with eureka. well over an inch of rainfall while spots like san francisco and santa rosa staying below a 10th of an inch. so definitely on the lighter side, nothing like what we had on thursday of last week. temperature wise today is going to be one of your cooler days of the forecast. a lot of us will hold on to the 50's, including the city and much of the peninsula millbrae and burlingame at 58 degrees today reaching the low 60's in palo alto mountain view as well as most of the south bay this afternoon. and a lot of the east bay to dublin pleasanton right at 60 degrees. hayward on up through san leandro, cutting up to 61 for your

daytime highs. some of our warmer spots will be in the north bay, fairfield, vacaville and now, but each at 63, tomorrow's temperatures a little bit warmer, hitting some mid 60's under mostly sunny skies for tuesday wednesday, bringing those isolated showers today. nothing major, just enough to get the ground wet and then it is smooth sailing. the last weekend of the month. expect some low 70's for your highs. >> and on holiday monday, president's day, no morning commutes, peak everybody at home. most everybody just got a handful of cars here at the bay bridge toll plaza. no issue getting into san francisco. a 13 minute ride here on this stretch of 92 across the san mateo bridge and over on to the peninsula. >> not a lot going on there. barely any traffic at the richmond, sandra fell bridge toll plaza. our camera spotting one set of headlights. maybe 2. that's about it. you're making good time in the marin county. and for those in the north bay heading on southbound 1, 1, to san francisco or if your

temperatures getting to the north bay, either way, it's hardly any traffic out there for you. >> there's a cooler place to do your olesen. what are their skateboarding tricks? you have san francisco just expanded the united nations skate. plus a they gathered to unveil this 2100 square foot area of new space in the downtown plaza. this project paid for with partnerships between the skatepark project and converse. it's a redesign part. the first opened in 2023 with a price tag of about 2 million dollars. 7.16, right now and is your neighborhood in a dangerous fire zone? cal fire's just out with a new map that shows you did most dangerous communities across california. yeah. this comes after the governor signed an executive order to accelerate the release of these maps. we've got to it smith with a look. >> approximately 1.4 million new acres of land have been added to the 2 higher tiers of fire hazard severity. according to a press release from the governor's office,

cal fire drew this map based on vegetation. data, topography, weather and climate change patterns to calculate the wildfire probability and intensity. the new executive order will require an ember resistant. so within 5 feet of structures located in the highest fire severity zones. officials say this is the key to stopping wildfires from spreading to homes. >> many people say we've got a wildfire crisis in the state. i like to say we actually have home edition crisis in the state. this means the removal of all brush vegetation and flammable fencing, gravel and concrete should be used instead of or combustible. greenery member lands within the first. >> 5 feet of your house and can any when the education it can get into eves. it lands on the roof. if you've got that debris because we haven't cleared you better than your roof. and if the numbers are hard enough. it will ignite.

so the idea is to be able to create this buffer of defensible space. some note that replacing existing fencing like this could cost a pretty penny, but a former fire chief says when you consider the big picture, it's fair question should really be. >> the relative cost of implementing zone 0 versus the cost of rebuilding existing homes will have 3 years to complete this task. >> what we what we are asking those people to do is to, you know, take one bite of the apple of time. but cal fire says all new construction in these areas must comply with regulations. affective immediately question still remains about how this will affect homeowner insurance. >> which is continue to break. california homeowner bank accounts year after year. officials say compliance with stricter safety regulations could eventually reduce the cost. if the homeowner is going to demonstrate to the insurance companies that they are making significant efforts to reduce their risk, in my

other news now. a man accused of shooting a driver on interstate 80 in solano county has been arrested. chp says the suspect had this loaded ghost gun on him when they took him into custody. they identified him as 45 year-old robert small. he apparently they say fired shots on westbound 80 near milk farm road wednesday, hitting another driver. that driver called police and provided a description that helped the chp ultimately locate the suspect. so small is now facing charges of attempted murder and assault. still ahead on the kron 4 morning news, a massive brawl breaks out in the south bay and officer was injured trying to break it up. we'll have details on what happened. >> police say her daughter was shot and killed here in the east bay and now grieving mother is sending out a warning about the dangers of

they want to because there's an important message that goes with it. joey horta is live in martinez with the story. >> brady led this is being remembered by her family as a loving mother. and they're hoping that her senseless death will serve as a warning to others about the seriousness of domestic violence. well, britney was just 30 years old and months before her graduation as a nursing student from diablo valley college in. but no, police say her ex jeffrey kendall broke into her home and shot her in the head with an assault weapon after a manhunt, kendall was arrested in santa cruz. their little boy, liam, just 4 years old at the time witnessed his mother being killed, according to the family. now, for the first time we're hearing from britney's mother, kathy. >> since and of course, my life not been the same. have been paying greats. want this to be about my pain and grief. i want this to be. that day to remember britney.

he was last seen by friends and neighbors 2 days before he died. police arrested a man in san pablo friday night. >> for shooting into someone's home, turns out he was living in the homeowner's backyard shed. and when searching the shed, police found bullets and rifles. the man is a convicted felon and he's not allowed to own guns he was living in that shed on the homeowner's property. >> well, san jose police officer was hurt while trying to break up a fight saturday night. this happened in the downtown area right near santa clara and san pedro streets. officers say they were attacked the call for backup and hear this video from the citizen app shows the crowds forming as they looked at dozens of police cars blocking off the road. several people in the end were arrested. and as for that injured officer, he was treated and is expected to be okay. the chp meanwhile

arrested 2 people in contra costa county accused of having more than 125 pounds of marijuana in their car. police say they pulled over the driver this weekend for speeding and then spotted these garbage bags stuffed with marijuana. the driver and passenger now facing drug possession charges. >> time now 7 34 4 people are without a home because they're burned. theirs burned down this home is in burlingame and the fire broke out saturday morning. the home is on canyon road. the flames spread to cardboard boxes that were in the house. and that's what created that thick smoke that you see there. firefighters spent several hours to get it under control and nobody was hurt. 7.34 and california insurance commissioner ricardo, lara has rejected state farm's request state farm wanted a hike insurance rates. 22%. they said that they were in a dire financial situation because of the southern california wildfires.

and they basically wanted everybody to pay for it by hiking the prices that we all pay. but the insurance commissioner said state farm didn't meet the burden of proof for the reason for the rate hike. so now they're going to be meeting later this month so they can discuss more about it. >> well, governor newsom has issued an emergency proclamation now in santa cruz county as recovery efforts there continue after the partial collapse of the war. so this comes after storm in december. you may remember not part of that pier into the water. well, the world was closed yesterday because of another storm that brought high surf once again. the county is set to get help now from the office of emergency services. thanks to that order from the governor. a bird flu vaccine now has conditional approval from the department of agriculture. this is happening as bird flu continues to wipe out millions of chickens driving up the price of eggs. the company behind the vaccine says it's been working with government officials for a while now to

get this vaccine to market. they say the vaccination of commercial poultry, though, is up to national regulators. so we'll see what they have to say. >> it's 7, 36 2 food delivery competitors are squaring off in burr, the parent company of uber eats uber technology. they're suing doordash over what they see as anti-competitive practices. doordash is accused of threatening to force higher costs on restaurants, which also offer uber eats. uber reportedly filed this suit after hearing for restaurant owners who felt pressured by doordash doordash argues that this lawsuit has no merit and that uber is unable to offer merchants or consumers better delivery choices. so the battle between uber and doordash k? >> well, let's turn our attention to san francisco and the fact that it's celebrated the year of the snake over the weekend saturday, they had their huge annual parade. weather cooperate. it was an

they help so many people here in san francisco. >> to see out of all-star weekend for sure. one of the best things about the weekend was also the weather which finally cooperated for us. we got all the rain out of the way on thursday and friday through yesterday and today because it is a threh-day weekend. >> he's looking really nice. we've got a beautiful sunrise over head across the bay. a few low clouds in the mix. but overall, it's not blocking out the brightness any sort of shower activity as well to our north. and that's where it'll stay so today and tomorrow are looking like nice, dry days and pretty calm days, too. nothing too aggressive. as far as those winds are concerned, low pressure will steer its way our direction towards the middle of the week. now, this low right here, it's going to have a much bigger impact on very northern tip of the state while for us here in the bay area, we're going to get just the very periphery of any sort of precip potential. some light sprinkles here and there come wednesday. and as quickly as it arrives, it is out of the picture. again, setting us

implications for minority and disadvantaged students. >> in the south bay, a group of san jose leaders now looking for ways to tackle a lack of parking spaces in 2022. the city voted to cut minimum parking requirements for housing development proposals in an effort to try to build more affordable housing but also to boost public transportation. well, now some city council members say these developments are limiting residents ability to park in front of their own homes. and they say that public transportation hasn't caught up with the number of people that need to move around. san jose. the committee is proposing the city explore a permanent parking program for residents in high-growth areas. if the proposal moves forward, the city could include funding for the program and its next budget cycle next year. well, a local bay area restaurant recently made the top 10 for the top 100 u.s. restaurants. so to make the top 10 and that list is pretty incredible. it was in a survey done by yelp that looks at data from both
