the day off. so if you're up at 8 o'clock, congratulations to asleep. and seems like you'll get the most out of the day, though. he's going to be pretty nice out there, john. yeah, today is looking like a really nice one. a cool, comfortable, partly cloudy. one, but importantly dry for your day off. if you do happen to be one of those of us that have a three-day weekend, you're look outside right now afternoon based definitely a few clouds in the mix. i see a couple of you out there on your jog right along the coastline. nice morning for it. today we will see plenty of clouds drifting overhead. we are seeing a couple of foggy spots, but mostly up in northern sonoma county. most of what you're looking at that is just a mid-level stratus. and visibility has been just fine temperature wise. we're in the 40's for most areas. oakland at 49 degrees, dublin at 44 sonoma, sitting at 42. one of your cooler spots on the map later on today. it'll be all about the 50's to low 60's and some mostly sunny times. but interspersed by partly cloudy to mostly cloudy moments. back to you. all right. let's check the roads real quick. as we're looking

at a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. no issues, no backups. 8 minutes as >> most people are off work today. heyward to san mateo across the san mateo bridge. 13 minute. you're moving at the limit there as well. no problems for you whatsoever. and that's the same situation here at the sandra fell bridge, which just 7 minutes to get over marin county, speaking of which north bay drivers heading either direction on one on one chp logs all-clear. you're making good time. >> it's 81 in the south bay. we have new details now about a deadly stabbing that happened in san jose on friday. yeah. we now know the victim was a 15 year-old boy kron four's will tran on the story for us live now in san jose. will. >> so we know the victim. what we do know, james darya the suspects because they are still searching for the suspects. this being 2 or 3 days after it all went down here in santana row, a place filled with cameras. so they have surveillance footage that they can possibly go through.

let me show you the video. this all went down at around 7.20, on friday night. valentine's date night. you have to assume there are thousands of people out, especially date night that particular time. but it did not stop the suspects from stabbing the victim by the time officers arrived to the scene here. the suspects were long gone. but of course, they saw the victim. they try to treat the victim at the scene and then russian to the hospital but injuries so severe that the victim actually died at the hospital, even though doctors are there to try to save his life at this particular point, the san jose police department, they either don't know. we're simply not saying the motive behind all of this and no suspect descriptions. i've been passed along to the public. the 15 year-old they know who he is, but they're waiting to confirm with his family as well as to allow the santa clara county coroner's office to release his identity determined. it is a fact this

young person, 15 years old, san jose's 3rd homicide victim of the year. back to you. thank you. will you know right now in the east bay san leandro police were involved in a shooting that happened in ashland. >> they were investigating around 8.30, last night and a vehicular assault. and during that investigation, that's when the shooting happened involving essentially and real police. the suspect was taken into custody and nobody was hurt. police say the alameda county sheriff's office is going to be investigating that. search and rescue efforts have been suspended now for a man who fell from san francisco's pier. 32 saturday night. and this is video of from the citizen app and it shows you in the distance there you can see the first responders and emergency crews there as they were searching for the man who fell in water. a woman also fell as well. police have not released the identities. they did rescue the woman.

>> what groups in silicon valley are calling for the removal of a mural at the palo alto branch of the santa clara county superior court. the naacp, san jose silicon valley, along with the but maloney tribes say that this mural displays colonialist colonialist imagery and that is offensive to native americans. however, the court cannot make a decision without county approval. the issue has been raised to county leaders, but the county has taken a position at this point that the mural is a historical piece of art which cannot be painted over. the naacp says it plans to have further meetings with county leaders too. talk about this issue. in the south bay, the santa clara county office of education is planning layoffs. the office says that workers will be notified of their dismissal by march. 15th. the office hasn't said how many jobs will be cut. but officials say that layoffs are needed because of cuts to federal funding and grants that have expired. this

comes as the office look for potential evidence of misspending under former superintendent mary and one the board of education voted to fire her back in october. and that sparked backlash from state lawmakers. fellow educators and parents and an independent audit by the board was turned over to the santa clara county district attorney in december. we'll have to see what it found. >> live right now and all-star weekend. >> fantastic. it's come and gone. it was real success in san francisco, at least in oakland got in on it, too. you can see all the fans there outside the chase center here in thrive city inside. they got to see all of the nba stars doing their thing showing as they like to do. but there was bunch of stuff to watch from the skills contest to the course. the biggest event over the weekend. the all-star game last night. >> kron 4 sports director scott reese takes a look. >> the nba all-star game here in san francisco. the culmination of a weekend's worth of fun and entertainment. you had the

best basketball players on the planet all gathered under one roof. the game did not disappoint with steph curry being the kobe bryant, most valuable player. and we got our storybook ending. >> as celebration of a lot of great things happen in basketball to be playing with these guys for as long as we have light. it's obviously our spots come out, put on a show and i thank them for, you know, help do that and are and and go to state because, you know, a lot histories have been out here, but the competition and the camaraderie and the legacy that we operate is what it's all about. have to be a part of that celebration. it was way more. >> like fun, chaos. and i thought it would be there's so many moving parts and, you know, it takes like nba's really good at like putting stuff like this together. so many things behind the scenes that, you know, don't get talked about enough that go through the weekend, which was really special and cool to just be a part of that. obviously just being back home with my family and friends is really do for the weekend. it was, though week it was cool

>> celebration for the end of a successful weekend in san francisco. the nba all-star weekend taking over the bay for the first time in 25 years. and you guys favorite part about the weekend. so just the festivities, the vibes, the coach of people lined up early to go through security and check themselves into the chase center for the all-star games. it's the first year they're hosting a mini tournament. but those tickets inside they cost an arm and a leg is good. that's been really good. actually, countless fans just like this couple from fresno drove hours to be here in the moment, taking it all i always grew up or at lemon bay area big giants niners fan. actually grew up not really watching basketball, but the gentle warrior games to come on after the giants games. so brother grew up watching the warrior games and became aware everything was a celebration. some fans were upset. the games weren't blasted on the big screen at the front of the chase center. yeah, i was hoping they're going to play it. but it's alright. we'll

three-day weekend for you. we are looking at some pretty inviting conditions, any sort of rainfall as well to the north up towards oregon. and so we're just looking at a couple of low clouds in the mix out there. winds generally on the calmer side of things that paired with some 50's to low 60's for your highs today will mean some sweater or light jacket kind of weather but still get out there and enjoy it. only one opportunity of rainfall really ahead of us in this forecast that involves this low pressure area sitting out in the pacific. that will dive right past us into wednesday of this week after today. and tomorrow is dry. weather wednesday will bring just a few light sprinkles to the bay heavier rainfall up to the north near the oregon border and a few light snow showers up in the sierra. just a few more inches of snow. nothing like the feet of snow that we saw thursday into friday. rainfall in your recap will amount to well over an inch mendocino over half an inch while santa rosa, francisco and surrounding areas staying below a 10th of an inch. so really no

comparison with what we had been seeing in this upcoming system. this is some very light shower activity. and that's the best opportunity of it. we've got otherwise we are in a warming trend that will make today one of our cooler days of your forecast with a lot of us hanging out in the 50's and a fair share of us rising into the low 60's saying carlo south into the south bay hitting that 60 degree. mark are rising just above it. same for a lot of the east bay hayward right at 61, oakland at 60 degrees. same in castro valley and san leandro earth day temps actually just slightly our warmer spots. pittsburgh at 63 degrees today as we move through the forecast, temperatures will remain pretty steady through thursday. after that, though, we see a warming trend and it's enough to get us into the low 70's for a lot of our inland areas by saturday and sunday. >> is check the traffic this morning as we're looking at the bay bridge to start, we've got very few cars. it's

presidents day weekend. so a lot of folks are off today. we're expecting to see pretty much this across all our bridges. and that's exactly what we're finding. nothing really slowing anybody down all traffic at the limit this morning from the san mateo bridge to the sandra fell bridge. where's the traffic? this is what i'm talking about. everybody enjoying a nice calm, a leisurely monday on this holiday. and that includes folks in red county heading into san francisco. you've got very little company as you make your way today. hello. hello. hello. eyewear. can you do your olesen? your kick united nations skate plaza. it's just been improved. and you can see there's city leaders. >> and skateboarders gathering unveiling the 2100 square foot section. this is a new space in the downtown area for skateboarders to do. they're saying and it's paid for with partnerships from this skate park project and converse. they open this redevelop park back in 2023. with a price tag of about 2 million dollars, which is better than that. no skating signs in san

francisco. the department of health help more than 450 homeless people get treatment for behavioral and housing issues in 2024. and it was done with the street care team and the city says it's committed to doing more of that and helping homeless people get off the streets and also addressing their medical and mental health needs. >> well, oakland, fire officials are investigating the cause of this warehouse fire. it happened saturday night right near the fruitvale bart station there at the intersection of 40th in san leandro street crews were able to get it out pretty quickly. they say nobody was hurt. the investigation into the cause is now under way. 8.17, right now. and do you live in a dangerous area for wildfires? cal fire has a new map and they show you. >> severe fire danger communities all across the state. yeah. this is something that governor newsom expedited. he wanted to get public and juliet smith takes a look. >> approximately 1.4 million new acres of land have been added to the 2 higher tiers of fire hazard severity.

according to a press release from the governor's office, cal fire drew this map based on vegetation. data, topography, weather and climate change patterns to calculate the wildfire probability and intensity. the new executive order will require an ember resistant. so within 5 feet of structures located in the highest fire severity zones. officials say this is the key to stopping wildfires from spreading to homes. >> many people say we've got a wildfire crisis in the state. i like to say we actually have our admission crisis in the state. this means the removal of all brush vegetation and flammable fencing, gravel and concrete should be used instead of or combustible greenery. and if an amber lands within the first >> 5 feet of your house and can ignite ne. when the education it can get into eves. it lands on the roof. if you've got that debris because we haven't cleared you better than your roof. and if the numbers are hard enough. it

will ignite. so the idea is to be able to create this buffer of defensible space. some note that replacing existing fencing like this could cost a pretty penny, but a former fire chief says when you consider the big picture, it's fair question should really be. >> the relative cost of implementing zone 0 versus the cost of rebuilding existing homes will have 3 years to complete this task. >> what we what we're asking those people to do is to, you know, take one bite of the apple of the time. but cal fire says all new construction in these areas must comply with regulations. affective immediately question still remains about how this will affect homeowner insurance. >> which is continue to break. california homeowner bank accounts year after year. officials say compliance with stricter safety regulations could eventually reduce the cost. if the homeowner is going to demonstrate to the insurance companies that they are making significant efforts to reduce their risk, in my

24 7 hotline. we have contact information. our web site right now. kendall is being held here behind bars in martinez. he's charged with homicide. he has pled not guilty and he's due back in court this coming friday. we're live in martinez, joey horta kron. 4 news. thank you, joe. >> it's a 33 and the alameda county sheriff's office wants help solving a murder that happened 41 years ago on valentine's day. 84 year-old christian bustling or was killed in his home on dunn road in hayward in 1984. he was last seen by friends and neighbors 2 days before he died. police arrested a man is stabbed hollow friday night for shooting into a home that he was. >> living behind. he was in the backyard shed. >> of the home. apparently the homeowner didn't know anything. and then when there was the gunshot, police went out. they searched the shed. they found the man they found rifle and bullets. and they say that man is a convicted

felon, not allowed to own guns, not allowed to sleep in a shed either. >> well, san jose police officer was hurt while trying to break up a fight. saturday night was a big one. this was in the downtown area right near santa clara and san pedro street. officers say they were attacked. that's when they called for backup. and in this citizen app video, you see the crowds watching on as dozens of police cars blocked off the road. several people in the end arrested. and as for the injured officer that officers expected to be okay. the chp may while arrested 2 people in contra costa county for having more than 125 pounds of marijuana in their car happened over the weekend. police pulled over the driver for speeding and that's when they discovered the bags in the back. the driver and the passenger had been arrested and are now facing drug possession charges. >> 35 right now and take a look at this fire on the peninsula for people got out. they live there. they can't live there anymore. but at least they're okay. this is in burlingame. the fire started

saturday morning. the houses on canyon road. took firefighters hours to put out. you can see how much smoke there was that because we're a cardboard boxes that caught fire as well. 35 is the time in california's insurance commissioner ricardo, lara, has rejected a request from state farm to hike rates. state farm wanted to raise insurance rates statewide by 22% because they say they were in dire financial shoes because of the wildfires that happened in southern california. so they want to hike everybody's rate to help pay for that. but he said that state farm didn't meet the burden of proof for that rate hikes are going to be further talks about it later this month. >> well, governor gavin newsom has issued an emergency proclamation in santa cruz county. is that area recovers from the partial wharf collapse that got worse recently. you may remember in december there was a storm that knocked part of the pier into the water. well, the word had to close again yesterday

because of another storm that brought high surf to the area with the governor's proclamation. the county now set to get help from the office of emergency services. a bird flu vaccine now has conditional approval from the department of agriculture. it's happening as avian flu. bird flu continues to wipe out chickens and driving up the price of eggs. the company behind the vaccine says it's been working with government officials. they say the vaccination of commercial poultry is up to national regulators. so they're pushing hard to get fully approved. >> a 36 and uber doordash are about to square off in bird technology's the parent company of uber eats is suing doordash over anti-competitive practices. the lawsuit alleges that doordash is threatening to force higher costs on restaurants that also offer uber eats for delivery. uber filed this lawsuit after hearing for restaurant owners
