here's their message about the dangers of domestic violence. action packed all-star weekend has wrapped up with a big win for warriors star steph curry. thank you for joining us here on kron for news at noon. i'm justine waldman. we're going to begin in san jose and in the south bay where new details are emerging about a deadly stabbing on friday in san jose. >> we now know that the stabbing victim was a 15 year-old boy kron four's. will tran has the details from san jose. >> it's the holidays and look at how busy it is right now. can you imagine how things were on friday night? valentine's day night with so many people out and about perhaps date night. i mention that because there are potentially thousands of witnesses not to mention surveillance cameras that the san jose police department have access to and hope to get

more information on the suspects. let me show you the video. this all went down on friday at around 7, 20 at night when according to the san jose police department's suspects approach a 15 year-old boy stabbed him and then fled the scene by the time they got here. well, there was no one to arrest because they long gone. but the victim was still here. they rushed the victim to the hospital, but injuries so severe that they could not save his life. in the meantime, they are still looking at surveillance footage. they are talking to witnesses but no descriptions either. they're not comfortable passing along at this particular time or they simply don't know yet. but we don't have descriptions of the suspects to give you to hopefully track down for the police officers who the people are behind all of this as far as the 15 year-old according to the san jose police department. they know who he is, but they're leaving it to the santa clara county coroner's office to release

that information after they notify his family. but one thing is irrefutable, the 15 year-old, unfortunately is san jose's 3rd homicide of the year. but take a look at for yourself. we have busy. it is. can you imagine? i was on friday night, valentine's night and it still did not stop this from happening. in the east bay ean leandro. police were involved in a shooting in the ashlon neighborhood during an investigation here. citizens video from the scene. >> san leandro police say that the shooting happened last night around 8.30. we'll officers were investigating a vehicular assault. authorities say during that investigation a shooting took place involving san leandro police. police have now do have a suspect in custody. no injuries have been reported. police say that the alameda county sheriff's office we'll investigate the shooting. search and rescue efforts have now been suspended for a man who fell from san francisco's

the day will go to partly cloudy skies overnight. we'll go from partly cloudy skies into tuesday. only chance for rain this entire week is wednesday. it's more likely in the north bay that it is the rest of the bay area. but it is certainly our chance of rain, not dramatic way. it's going to be fairly lovely. so clouds and sun today. highs 50's and 60's warmer tomorrow. a little warmer tomorrow. then we get the rain. and after that, a warming trend kicks in as we head toward the end of february. it's going to be a lovely warming trend. temperatures well above normal. but how about that rain? mostly it will be on wednesday in the pacific northwest and then dropping into the northwest portion of the night of the state of california. by the time it gets to the bay area. it's wednesday and it's not very much. we're counting it. maybe a 10th of an inch in santa rosa, many arab other areas more like a few hundredths of an just >> thank you so much that.

pretty fun filled weekend at chase center, creating a lot of memories for fans and all-star weekend in the bay area has now wrapped up the best players in rising stars showed up and they showed off sporting events and skills contests all led to the biggest night on the court. the all-star game kron. 4 sports director scott reese reports from chase center. >> the nba all-star game here in san francisco. the culmination of a weekend's worth of fun and entertainment. you had the best basketball players on the planet all gathered under one roof. the game did not disappoint with steph curry being the kobe bryant, most valuable player. and we got our storybook ending. >> as celebration of a lot of great things happen in basketball to be playing with these guys for as long as we have light. it's obviously our spots come out, put on a show and i thank them for, you know, help do that and are and and go to state because, you know, a lot histories have been out here, but the competition and the camaraderie and the legacy that we operate is what it's all about. have to be a part of that celebration. it was

week in the middle east to start negotiating an end to the ukraine war. but the ukrainians will not have a seat at the table. our washington correspondent trevor shirley is in dc with more. >> ukrainian officials are in the middle east but they will not be a part of this week's talks. the negotiations to end the ukraine war get underway tuesday in saudi arabia, albeit without the ukrainians the next few weeks days will determine whether it's serious or not. the meeting upends years of u.s. policy effectively ending moscow's isolation following its invasion of ukraine in 2022. >> negotiations come after president donald trump and russian president vladimir putin spoke by phone earlier this month. i think he wants and it. >> they want to end fast. and so he wants to end it, too. but the ukrainians say they won't honor any peace deal. they're not a part of negotiating. that's real

>> now to a kron 4 exclusive this week marks one year since an east bay woman lost her life. what police are describing as a deadly case of domestic violence. kron four's joey horta has the important message that her family is sharing. >> brady led. this is being remembered by her family as a loving mother. and they're hoping that her senseless death will serve as a warning to others about the dangers of domestic violence. she was just 30 years old and a few months before her graduation from diablo valley college with no police say her ex jefe rekindle broke into her home and shot her in the head with an assault weapon for the first time we're now hearing from britney's mom, kathy. >> since and of course, my life not been the same. have been paying greats. want this

>> now to weather in the sierra got more than 40 inches of fresh snow last week. the latest count from the uc berkeley, sierra snow lab is showing 41.1 inches. and here are some scenes from palisades tahoe now where the snow made a lot of skiers and snowboarders happy over the weekend probably today because it's presidents day. a lot of people are often there spending this mid-winter break ski week. in the sierra join that snow's. let's talk about what's there right now with kathy snow in last and it's great. this time of year is exactly what we should have. it's not only fun for skiers, but of course, it's us many a big source of water for us in california. so we want to see more snow. >> great view. here's a look. diamond peak. we've got the skiiers finally enjoying a break as they are having much. yeah, a couple days ago that was piled high. all those picnic areas, lots of snow. they shoveled office. now another enjoying themselves and for a couple more days are going to perfect skiing

weather and then things are going to start to change because there is more snow in the forecast. we're going to see maybe some light snow is going to be a strong storm that moves very quickly with gusty winds and some light rain and light snow. so when does it come in? well, wednesday, we see the rain and the snow right above the lake tahoe basin just about midday. so there's your lunch time and there you are just around sunset. still some snow showers lingering in lake tahoe and the city so level about 6500 feet. there you are. you say, goodbye to the snow at the end of the day and my goodness, it is gone. but the winds are really gusting, gusting to perhaps 75 to 80 miles per hour at the bridges. so here we go. here's your forecast. partly cloudy for today. increasing clouds for tomorrow. and there's your afternoon rain and snow. the same storm that's bringing them the rain and snow in the sierra is bringing us the possibility of some rain right here in the bay area. you can

see where the snow is, of course, on the ridge of the sierra nevada light rain for us and the more north you are, the more likely you are to see rain. so if you're in the north bay, that's your belt shot of it. and then after that, a ridge builds in. yeah, we have a few clouds here and there, but it's a warming trend courtesy of the ridge. our rainfall totals not terribly impressive. that wednesday storm that comes and goes quickly but bring about a 10th of an inch to a few places. such santa rosa and the deck the rest of the bay area. and we're looking at the reigning in hundreds of an inch. so it's not an impressive storm, but its nice to have that look, frolic dollop of rain temperatures this afternoon, mainly in the 50's a few areas. we tend to the 67 cisco, 58 degrees. 61 for antioch and allay and 62 in napa. so the freed a 3 day forecast is partly cloudy, shot skies after the mostly cloudy start. still, some clouds linger in many areas. go for a little more sunshine tomorrow and it's wednesday

>> pays his he shoot a half and all the fans tell me about the game, the players and moments like they will never forget. let's go property. >> in the south bay, the santa clara county office of education is planning on laying off employees. the offices workersywill be notified of their dismissal by march. 15th. the office has not said how many jobs will be cut. but officials say the layoffs are because of cuts in federal funding and expiring grants. this is coming as the office is looking for potential evidence of misspending under former superintendent mary won the board of education, voted to fire her in october, sparking backlash from state lawmakers and educators, independent audit by the board was turned over to the santa clara county district attorney in december. groups in silicon valley are calling for the removal of the mural at the pa lot. a branch of the santa clara county

superior court. critics say that the mural displays calling this imagery which belittles native americans. this tribe was joined by the naacp, san jose silicon valley and has been asking for it to be removed. however, the court says it cannot do that without county approval. and at the moment, the county has taking a position that the mural is a historic piece of art that cannot be painted over. the naacp plans to meet with county supervisors to discuss this issue further. in the south, a group of san jose leaders looking for ways to tackle a lack of parking spaces in 2022. the city voted to cut minimum parking requirements for housing development proposals to favor public transportation. and now some city council members say these developments are limiting residents ability to park in front of their homes. they say the public transportation has not caught up with the amount of people traveling in san jose. committee is proposing the city explore a permitted parking program for residents

it's light rain. so your best chance for rain on wednesday is the north bay and parts further north than that. here in the south bay, you may get a few hundredths of an inch of rain. you'll be counting just the raindrops practically it up. and this year they get a pretty good dusting. gusty winds, weather in the sierra with the richest 75 to 80 miles per hour. gusts at the ridges. and then for us along the coastline and some of the higher elevations of the bay area, we could see some pretty gusty winds are self. so we're in for a lovely spell of weather. we get that one little glitch on wednesday and then high pressure builds in and then it's a warming trend as we head toward the very last weekend of february, you're going to get chance to break out your sunglasses. so those rainfall totals on wednesday, again, not terribly impressive up in eureka, maybe don't know 3 quarters of an inch. maybe half that amount. mendocino santa rosa cafe, maybe a 10th of an inch. so a% again, derby county, just a

making. i would be the county firefighter celebrated the release of a much anticipated film in the red at the santa barbara international film festival. the film offers a glimpse into the lives of the young men from challenging backgrounds who find hope in a firefighter training program. and while not all of them succeed, those who do transformative journey. also this afternoon, the california highway patrol. how they women's hiring seminar, reaching out to recruits to fill up to 700 vacancies for officers to dispatchers. they held this over the weekend right now, only 6% of all the officers in california are female to join the academy. you have to be between the ages of 21 35 and be able to pass the physical agility test and a written test. more than 100 women signed up to participate in this event. and officials say the diversity of the agency makes the job more

it's comeback season. breaking news we're following this afternoon here on kron 4, a delta flight that flipped over as it was landing in toronto. this is a live picture now from the scene. you can see the plane there is upside down and emergency officials are on the scene right in front of the air canada terminal. there. the flight was going from minneapolis to the toronto pearson airport. that's for this live picture is from the airport has confirmed that emergency crews are responding and we can see that looks like there, several fire trucks there as well as emergency vehicles from the police department. we do know now that all the passengers and crew members have been accounted for. we do not know though if there are any injuries now that we have these live pictures into the newsroom. we can got a better idea of what's happening there in toronto as this delta plane has flipped upside down at the

pearson airport there. but again, we're waiting to hear if anyone's been injured. we certainly do not know a cause at this time. we're keeping our eyes on this. more information continues to come into our newsroom and we'll keep you updated here on kron 4 this afternoon. cal fire has started releasing new maps that outline the severity of the fire dangers in communities all across california. and this is coming after governor newsom signed an executive order to accelerate the release of those maps. juliet smith has the story. >> approximately 1.4 million new acres of land have been added to the 2 higher tiers of fire hazard severity. according to a press release from the governor's office, cal fire drew this map based on vegetation. data, topography, weather and climate change patterns to calculate the wildfire probability and intensity. the new executive order will require an ember resistant. so within 5 feet of structures

located in the highest fire severity zones. officials say this is the key to stopping wildfires from spreading to homes. >> many people say we've got a wildfire crisis in the state. i like to say we actually have our admission crisis in the state. this means the removal of all brush vegetation and flammable fencing, gravel and concrete should be used instead of park or combustible greenery. and if an amber lands within the first >> 5 feet of your house and can ignite ne. when the education it can get into eves. it lands on the roof. if you've got that debris because we haven't cleared you better than your roof. and if the numbers are hard enough. it will ignite. so the idea is to be able to create this buffer of defensible space. some note that replacing existing fencing like this could cost a pretty penny, but a former fire chief says when you consider the big picture, it's fair question should really be.
