15 year-old stabbed to death on valentine's while out with his girlfriend tonight. the investigation continues into what led to the deadly attack. thank you for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. >> i'm dan thorn and i'm noelle bellow, a gofundme page set up by the teen's family says david gutierrez was on a date and san jose's santana row when he was jumped by a group of teens kron four's joc moment has more after speaking with those who knew him. >> family and friends of david gutierrez say that he was a student at sequoyah high school and love to go to his local boxing gym in redwood city. the 15 year-old was killed in a stabbing here in santana row on valentine's day. it's a better introduce you to the young life taken too soon. we take you to redwood city. >> it is like to work out. hang out with his friends here.

>> it's is david gutierrez, boxing gym. this group of kids standing right now was the same group the team would normally train with. this is his coach for dover, rita this. henry list. it's not real. you know? >> it was random when feel state. he coached gutierrez for 2 years and says that this was unexpected, adding that gutierrez was a good kid. yeah, he was good. he was down. he wasn't scared. he was yeah. >> the 15 year-old with a student at sequoyah high school. his life was cut short friday on valentine's day. >> according to his family's gofundme, he was killed, stabbed in the heart while on a date with his girlfriend. said the for the state, we know feel right? san jose police say the suspects ran away before police arrived. gutierrez was taken to a hospital where he later this. >> feel really sorry for his family. and yeah, it to the someone that young. especially the community less somebody that san jose mayor matt mahan sent a statement to kron 4

news that says, quote, as we await more details about this tragic death. my thoughts are with the victim's family who are undoubtedly reeling from this horrific loss. >> i have full confidence that police officers will pursue every lead to bring the perpetrator of the senseless violence to justice. the family gofundme says all money donated will go towards funeral expenses with the family telling the world, quote, we lost our baby. san jose. police also told as of monday there are no updates to share with the case as the investigation is ongoing. reporting here in san jose jack moment kron 4 news. >> we are following a developing situation in union city tonight. police investigating after a person was hit by a car. police say happened around 08:40pm tonight at eastbound alvarado. niles road and alamuddin boulevard. that area is closed off to traffic tonight. everyone involved did stay on scene. they're said to be cooperating with the investigation. no details on the condition of the person who was hit or how this crash happened tonight and still no

estimate on when that road will be open in union city. >> 18 people including a child injured after a delta airlines plane crashed while landing and ended up on its roof today, the flight was carrying 80 people and it was arriving. it canada's toronto pearson airport from minneapolis. no one was killed. and then authorities say the injuries were relatively minor. investigators, though, are still looking into why the plane crash may did say it was snowing and windy in the toronto area. delta had to cancel all flights into and out of toronto scheduled for tonight. >> a live look at the embarcadero and the bay bridge tonight. all clear here in the bay area. in terms of our weather. yeah. and we know that a bit of a chill is hanging around. let's check in with lauren taylor. yeah, he's called quiet out there right now. that's for sure. after a very rough start to february. although storms rolling through a nice beginning to the week, presidents day, turning out lots of sunshine

and some high clouds. now tonight see a few more of those high clouds rolling on in temperatures could be a little chilly in spots. overall, though. >> not super cold overnight. not freezing temperatures out there right now. a nice look out over the bay at this time. i think as we head through the night tonight, these temperatures 40's and 50's popping to see some upper 30's developing some of the interior valleys. but not as cold as it has been. so really really the entire state a chance to really recover from all the rain that we've seen. this first part of february. but things will begin to change a storm system off the coastline. most energy head up in pacific northwest. see some of those high clouds drift over the top of that ridge. but that's we're going to catch the southern half of that system bringing with at least a slight chance of showers right around wednesday. then it looks like things are going to turn out a little bit warmer this next weekend, possibly talking about some 70's here in the bay area have more on that coming up the few minutes. lawrence, thanks a lot. following the devastating

fires in los angeles. some around residents are now >> wanting their town council. the study wildfire evacuation routes to better prepare for the future organization called safe. baraga filed a lawsuit against the town alleging it violated the california environmental quality act by approving 66 unit development project without first studying how it will affect residents evacuating during a wildfire as of right now, the town only has 2 lane roads to get in. >> and out, the difficulty here is when you have so much population concentrated in such such a tiny place service by only a narrow roadways. the minute you yell fire, it's going to be a panic. >> officials, the town of braga say they have not been served with the lawsuit yet so they cannot provide any comment at this time. >> protesters from coast to coast spent their presidents day denouncing president donald trump from our nation's capital to our state capitol in sacramento, down to san

him inside of the hillsdale mall. the store is located on the western side of the mall, which according to a plan publicized by the city of san mateo, could potentially turn into three-story townhomes. it's part of a major redevelopment plan submitted by the mall's owners called hillsdale reimagined the project would take down the existing indoor mall structure and turn the space into homes office in retail buildings and open space. canelo says the only positive things you can think of is the housing would provide opportunities for people who want to move into the area. but she doesn't want to think about looking for a new job. i've only been here for like 5 minutes, but it's been helpful having a job that's nearby. another hillsdale mall employee aliyah austin, thanks. the potential redevelopment is an all around bad idea because he'll still is a hot spot for families. least i work on the weekends or even like on a busy times. and there's like mall event. it gets really crowded like

they know they have a like kind of concert in like the center square. austin also says the serramonte center in daly city is the closest shopping mall from hillsdale. >> which would be a 20 to 30 minute trip for families in and around san mateo. this is like the close to small within, kind of a distance. so it would kind of take away from people shopping space like where to go. >> the city of san mateo has not yet released an estimated cost of the hillsdale mall redevelopment plan or construction date. reached out but we weren't able to either speak with the property owners or city officials because of presidents holiday in san mateo, lindsey ford kron. 4 news. >> the santa clara county office of education is planning some layoffs. the office has not said how many jobs will be cut but said affected workers will be notified by march. 15th officials say these layoffs are because of cuts in federal funding and expiring grants. it all comes as the office looks for potential evidence of misspending under former

superintendent mary on the board of education voted to fire dewan in october, which sparked backlash from state lawmakers and educators alike and independent audit by the board was turned over to the santa clara county, d a in december. happening tomorrow, crews in san francisco will begin work to remove the controversial bike lane. >> on the lens streets, they will then work to replace it with a new side running bike lane. that change coming after business owners blamed the center lane for loss of money and customers and they threatened to sue this new project to change it. all up is expected to take at least 2 months. construction work will be scheduled monday through friday from 07:00am. to 05:00pm. coming up, hearing from the east bay team who made the $100,000 winning shot against damian lillard at the nba all-star game. and coming up after the break, a cell phone video captures a car

in walnut creek. and as kron four's, sara stinson found out this has been happening. >> for years. >> the aftermath from these donuts can be seen here on castle rock road. you can see the skid marks this happening at all hours of the day and night this weekend. it happened during the day for the first time. however, that did allow 2 brothers who grew up here to capture video of a license plate. >> in the middle of the day, a reckless driver seen doing donuts on castle rock road in walnut creek, mitchell and greg mays are caught it on video now that we have a license plate, we can actually. >> for sure say that this is the guy and we have video of him doing it. so what more proof you want? these brothers say this type of chaos has been disrupting their neighborhood for 2 years. it's a concern for all of us around here. >> every time like someone's doing donuts around here will all come out and waltz kuspuk what we saw video isn't really try to report every weekend.

issues. we did reach out to the police department, but we did not hear back in time for this report. >> i'm sara stinson reporting back to. >> and be a star jalen wells. now joining the groaing list of opposition to san jose state university's proposal to get rid of its athletics department was played 2 seasons at sonoma state from 2021 to 2023 after taking part in the nba all-star weekend here in san francisco, wells was back at his alma mater today. they recalled how sonoma state was one of the few schools offer him a chance to play college ball. he said he is concerned that if these cuts go through other young athletes may not get the opportunities he was given. >> i mean, i bet you those kids and run a park that come to these games and you know, they they enjoy it. it makes them want to play these sports and things like that. so i think a lot of it is bigger than sports. i think we're not realizing how much of impact that sonoma state sports actually has on the community. >> sonoma state also plans to

end 20 degree programs and layoff faculty, group calling themselves save seawolves athletics has filed a civil rights complaint with the u.s. department of education challenging the cuts. place in seattle looking for thieves who stole hundreds of eggs from a cafe. the heist was caught on camera earlier this month. the thieves swiped crates of the breakfast staple in loaded them into that white van. you see there and one point they took off, but then they returned nearly 15 minutes later to steal even more. investigators say they do well. still more than 500 currently worth around 400 bucks as we know, have become a hot commodity. prices have soared because of the bird flu. no suspects tell have been arrested in this case. >> you are taking a live look at coit tower tonight. all lit up. been cold but not raining last couple of days, which is good, but a nice change. back

for maybe a little bit. and then we're going to deal with some ups and downs and maybe a tease of some warmer temps to their lawns. yeah, we could have a little spring-like feel coming our way. kind of extreme. checking the weather today. >> notice there is absolutely no advisories of any kind for cold for flooding for snow. >> anything across the bay area. so that's something unusual so far this month as it's been really a wild, month of weather here in the bay area. but now things are taken a turn. it looks like for the positives. things dried out today. not a bad day around the bay area on this 3 day weekend. a lot of sunshine, a few high clouds out there for today. you're going to see a few more high clouds overnight tonight, partly cloudy skies, a little chilly in spots inland, but overall, i think tomorrow or offer running with some sunshine. some passing clouds are really on the nice day. wednesday gusby the one. going to see some clouds moving in and a slight chance of showers mainly north of the golden gate bridge. but you can see the pattern setting up now. you've got cold front off the coastline, mostly energy kind of roll over the top of this ridge here. head up the

pacific northwest. so we're gonna catch the trailing edge of that system of the slides on by. but tomorrow looks like another really nice day to get out there. enjoy long range forecast. here comes the system tomorrow. not a bad day. most that energy had it all the way up in oregon and washington. then as we head into wednesday, we do get clipped by the system drops in as we head toward wednesday afternoon. so a chance of showers them. but it doesn't look like much. just not going to be a big storm system moving on through behind dan kind of mentioned, here we go. northwest. get hit by more rain. but we're going to see some numbers probably in the 70's around the bay area. so the warmer summers, we've seen quite a while. so looks like some nice weather coming our way that we get toward the middle of next week. and again, there's another slight chance of some showers, long range forecast models as we take you toward the end of the month are showing a lot of brown out there and that's showing below normal rainfall. >> as we round out the month. enjoy it. while we have some of the longer-range models are suggesting we could get back into a lot of rain in march. temperatures tomorrow low to about the mid 60's outside

>> a breezy weekend, all of a sudden a bit of a lull in the sports schedule this week with the nba and nhl both on hiatus. fortunately, things are ramping up in arizona. the giants holding their first full team workout of 2025 and this was nice to see new acquisition shortstop willie adonis blasting run over the left-field wall on his second swing of live. batting practice is also great to see the returning regulars out there together for the first time. and then there's the guy everybody seems to be asking about top prospect bryce eldridge. what will his workload be this spring? we'll see how we get going in. typically, you know, at the beginning, we don't push guys too much as far as some games. road game so forth. he's gonna get some at-bats. >> you know, we don't how long it's going to be here. some of
