morning news. there's a heavy police presence concord neighborhood. will tran is live at the scene with what we know so far. it turns out a 15 year-old was out with his girlfriend in san jose when he was stabbed to death on valentine's day. the investigation into why continues. and more pain at the pump. gas prices have soared more than $0.50 in the last month across the bay area. the kron 4 morning news starts now.

>> james, i'm on the tomah drive and i'm not alone because they're about 8 police cars. also at the scene. they've been here since about one 30 in the morning. you can see all that crime scene tape blocking the public off. they are allowing people to leave their homes and go to work or to school. they are focusing on that particular house with the garage open. reportedly, this is a domestic violence situation possibly between a father and son. i just talked to the concord police department and they hope to have a spokesman available or spokesperson available little bit later to give us more information. but we don't see an ambulance here or coroner's office. so it appears possibly it's a non-fatal, but we believe that maybe shots were fired by the concord police department because we are talking 6 and a half hours later and they have not left the scene whatsoever. they continue to gather evidence walking back and forth and you

can see there's another officer stepping out of his car right now, maybe even going into the house at this particular time. so this is far from wrapping up. you can see neighbors on the other side of the crime scene tape waking up taking a look for themselves exactly what happened. as soon as i get more information, i'll let you know. but it does not appear any officer was injured behind all of this. back to you. all right. thanks a lot. we'll continue to check back with the will and get more to help details on what's going on there throughout night. 703 is the time family and friends continue to mourn the death of that teenager who was stabbed in san jose santana row on valentine's day. just 15 years old. just a boy. there's a go fund me now for the 15 year-old his name is david gutierrez. >> and he was on a date with his girlfriend when he was jumped and stabbed to death. crawford jeff moment has more. family and friends of david gutierrez say that he was a student at sequoyah high school. >> and love to go to his local boxing gym in redwood city.

the 15 year-old was killed in a stabbing here in santana row on valentine's day. it's a better introduce you to the young life taken too soon. we take you to redwood city. >> it is like to work out. hang out with his friends here. >> this is david gutierrez, boxing gym. this group of kids standing right now was the same group the team would normally train with. this is his coach for dover, rita, henry list. it's not real. you >> it was random when favorite in this state. he coached gutierrez for 2 years and says that this was unexpected. >> adding gutierrez was a good kid. yeah, he was good. he was done. he was a scary. he was brave. the 15 year-old with a student at sequoyah high school. his life was cut short friday on valentine's day. >> according to his family's gofundme, he was killed, stabbed in the heart while on a date with his girlfriend. said still the affair of the

state. we know feel right. san jose police say the suspects ran away before police arrived. gutierrez was taken to a hospital where he later >> feel really sorry for his family. and yeay, it to the someone that young. especially the community less somebody that san jose mayor matt may have sent a statement to kron. 4 news that says, quote, as we await more details about this tragic death. my thoughts are with the victim's family who are undoubtedly reeling from this horrific loss. i have full confidence that our police officers will pursue every lead to bring the perpetrator of the senseless violence to justice. the family gofundme says all money donated will go towards funeral expenses with the family telling the world, quote. >> we lost our baby san jose. police also told as of monday there are no updates to share with the case as the investigation is ongoing. reporting here in san jose. jack moment kron 4 news. >> well, 706, is the time and happening today. we've got school crossing guards rallying and speaking out against a proposal to

eliminate them. the sfmta is proposing these cuts today at the board of directors meeting and it comes after the u.s. if you and t s as budget deficit has appeared on their books for the 2025. 26 year. the rally is set to be held at city hall before the meeting at 01:00pm 706, and happening today, crews are going to says turret removing. >> the controversial center bicycle lane that was really only recently installed a longer than that. lindsey, a street has an idea of how to move traffic and make things smoother and safer for everybody. cyclists, pedestrians, cars, businesses that didn't work. everybody complain including the business owners who said they were losing a lot of money and customers and they threatened a lawsuit over that center bike lane. so the city has decided, we're going to take it out. it's going to take about 2 months to do that. and the work is scheduled monday through friday from 07:00am to 05:00pm. and when they're done, they're going to be moving it over to what we're seeing is a traditional bike lane that's been working and

seems to be working. well all around the bay put it on the side of the road. developing news this morning from union city. police are investigating a crash that happened at this intersection. a person was hit by a car around 8.30 last night. eastbound alvarado. niles road at al london boulevard and they said that the area is going to be closed until they finish their investigation. we don't even know the status of the person hit by the car. we just know that they're investigating. >> in the east bay, we have one camera store looking for help now after they say they were broken into over the weekend and look at the damage. this is looking glass photo. they've got to go fund me page and again, that page says this car rammed through the store's entrance multiple times. you can seen the damage for yourself here in these pictures. lot of merchandise was taken so far more than $43,000 has been raised on that. go-fund me campaign to try repair some of this damage and replace some of those stolen items. teachers in san

ramon are standing up against proposed budget cuts. they say they're pushing back against the district's proposal of 26 million dollars in cuts, which includes cutting mental health support staff like counselors and social workers over 1000 teachers are set to rally today during the lunch hour at doherty valley high school beginning at 11, 30. >> parts of a popular mall on the peninsula could and up in a major redevelopment plan. owners of the hillsdale mall in san mateo have submitted a plan to turn part of the shopping center into a housing area. kron four's. lindsey ford has the details. >> this western section of the mall could potentially turn into housing. i spoke to all employees who have big motions about the plans. it's a mixed feeling for sure. kathy canelo works at the h in him inside of the hillsdale mall. the store is located on the western side of the mall, which according to a plan publicized by the city of san

mateo, could potentially turn into three-story townhomes. it's part of a major redevelopment plan submitted by the mall's owners called hillsdale re imagined the project would take down the existing indoor mall structure and turn the space into homes office and retail buildings and open space. canelo says the only positive things you can think of is the housing would provide opportunities for people who want to move into the area. but she doesn't want to think about looking for a new job. i've only been here for like 5 minutes, but it's been helpful having a job that's nearby. another hillsdale mall employee aliyah austin, thanks. the potential redevelopment is an all around bad idea because he'll still is a hot spot for families. least when i work on the weekends or even like on a busy times and there's like mall event, it gets really crowded like they know they have a like kind of concert in like the center square. austin also says the serramonte center in daly city is the closest shopping mall from

locally in the bay area on up into the sierra, we're right at the cusp of any potential with just a couple sprinkles for the bay and some very light snowfall in the sierra. i mean, you can see it really doesn't add up to much for the bay. a light sprinkle staying below a 10th of an inch for donner summit around 3 inches of snow. so i'm like that feet of snow that we measured last week. all this is very much so on the manageable side. if you wanted to get up there, a lot of 60's today, including in san francisco and some spots along the coastline, 60's as well along the bayshore burlingame in millbrae at 62 degrees. some mid 60's in the south bay this afternoon. san jose, you'll get up to 66 degrees among our warmer spots while union city at 64 livermore right there as well. walnut creek also among those warmer areas at 66, same up in vacaville napa. you land at 65 this afternoon. same in santa rosa. looking ahead. temperatures tomorrow will be a little bit cooler. that one lone chance of a few

drive concession sales and stocks are near record highs as investors await fed minutes this week. we've got jane king live at the york stock exchange to break it all down. good morning, jane. james. good morning. put the p 500 did hit a record high and then turn lower. but >> we do have a lot economic news coming over the next few days. minutes from the federal reserve's january meeting. we also get some updates on manufacturing and the services sector and consumer sentiment earnings from walmart which always very interesting. they're so big. they touched so many americans and consumers that. >> always interesting to hear what walmart has to say about the economy. well, the new york times is rolling out internal artificial intelligence tools for its staff. for reports at the time say ai tools, which include an in-house summers, ation platform called echo, are designed for tasks such as research brainstorming in reading social media copy, though the company e-mail specifies riders will not be using ai to draft articles or do major revisions to their articles and sales of plushies

have skyrocketed in recent years. and it's just children driving the demand. fortune reports sales are way up as gen z is buying. statistics says that plushies sales were 2.6 billion in 2023. and also sales doing well popcorn and those commemorative popcorn buckets of movie theaters, a part of the recent especially buckets are driving concession purchases at enticing people to see big movies on opening weekend. is started selling these movie thing buckets in 2019, but they gained even more unpopular the past couple of live from the new york stock exchange. i'm jane king. back to all right, jane, thank you very much. >> 7.18 right now today is the first day back to work for a lot of people cause you had a long weekend. yeah, stay. and if you need to fill er up this morning before you head out, you might be shocked at what prices are looking like this morning. joey horta is live in the newsroom with the numbers at the pub by joey. hey, sorry to break it to you guys. but the pain at the pump is officially back. so if you're filling up this morning, you're going to notice a

difference. gas prices up nearly $0.60 in san francisco compared to just a month ago. >> we're paying a few cents more than last weekend. quite a few cents war in most places in vallejo in oakland, $0.28 more than last week. today, san jose and san francisco quarter more now. napa. 36 higher and both sarah fell and santa rosa gas is also a quarter more than last week. drivers in contra costa county can expect to pay just over 5 bucks. and san mateo county, 5.18, a gallon. so what's driving up these prices? what when refinery goes offline, production drops. and so in the east bay, we had that big fire breaking out at the martinez refinery, injuring several employees and leading to air quality concerns earlier this month. what a refinery does that production goes down when they're offline. so supply demand is a factor. according to the energy information administration, the domestic supply drop 3 million barrels last week and the u.s. is

putting out average of 9 million barrels of oil per day. so the demand for gas is up by about 200,000 barrels per day. now and just look at the calendar. it's right on cue. refineries are beginning to switch over from the winter blend to this summer blend of fuel. according to aaa and so summer blend cost more that usually lives of those higher prices for the customers. so as we've seen time and time again, that as summer approaches, gas prices are likely to keep going up. so maybe look at barter some other option. call a friend to a car pull guys back something and take me av as james million times where we lived on the way, maybe but thank you, >> it's a concern for all of us around >> and this has become a chronic problem in one east bay community. that man you just heard from says he's concerned and frustrated over a particular driver has been doing donuts in his

neighborhood from sun up to sun down. yeah. and this is right in the middle of a residential neighborhood in walnut creek. and you can see how dangerous it could be if something went wrong. >> as kron 4, sarah stinson reports. >> the aftermath from these donuts can be seen here 4n castle rock road. you can see the skid marks this happening at all hours of the day and night this weekend. it happened during the day for the first time. however, that did allow 2 brothers who grew up here to capture video of a license plate. >> in the middle of the day, a reckless driver seen doing donuts on castle rock road in walnut creek, mitchell and greg mays lure caught it on video another. we have a license plate. we can actually. >> for sure say that this is the guy and we have video of him doing it. so what proof you want? these brothers say this type of chaos has been disrupting their neighborhood for 2 years. it's a concern for all of us around here. >> every time someone's doing donuts around here will all

airlines plane crashed while landing and ended up on its roof monday. you can see the pictures here. the flight was carrying 80 people. it was arriving at canada's toronto airport from minneapolis. miraculously, nobody died. and authorities say those who are injured reported that they were only minor injuries. investigators are still looking into why that plane crash. they did say it was snowing and windy. you can see the ice on the runway here in toronto, delta canceled all flights in and out of that airport for the rest of the evening while they conducted their investigation 7.25 and the new alameda county district attorney is going to be sworn in today in oakland. the ceremony will be later today. >> 4 are jones dickson. it'll be at the davidson spirit courthouse on fallon. street dixon is replacing pamela price who was recalled by voters in november. previously dixon was a superior court judge and she also served as deputy district attorney in alameda county for 15 years. she says that her main focus

at first is going to be on reorganizing the da's office and on catching with a backlog of cases. the swearing-in ceremony is at 3 o'clock today. >> to the north bay, 2 teens are accused now stealing a car from a driver at gunpoint in vallejo. officers say these teens block 2 women into a parking lot and stole their car. the victim's car was later found abandoned. and then a short time later, officers spotted those teens and pulled him over. but police say they have these guns in those car air in that car. both have been arrested. >> still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news, nba star jalen wells is speaking out about sonoma state's plans to sonoma state's plans to completely cut sports. what he

i'm not happy with the way that pg&e handled the wildfires. yeah. yeah. i totally, totally understand. we're adding a ton of sensors. as soon as something comes in contact with the power line, it'll turn off so that there's not a risk that it's gonna fall to the ground and start a fire. okay. and i want you to be able to feel the improvements. we've been able to reduce wildfire risk from our equipment by over 90%. that's something i want to believe. to a really mild early afternoon already back into the 60's. >> all right. back to work and school for a lot of folks today and the highways and bridges are reflective of that. 24 minutes for everybody making their way on the bay bridge into the city right now. no accidents on our bridges, though, while you're at about 26 on the san mateo bridge, you're still under 15 allar richmond center fell and that golden gate bridge around 30 minutes. all james, back to you. >> 7.30, right now and the breaking news that we want to check in with is in concord. we've been following a police presence. >> in a neighborhood will tran. is there gathering details right there at the intersection of willow pass and thentomah will what he's saying. >> i just confirmed with neighbors and one neighbor told me that he did, in fact, hear gunfire in the overnight hours. so we're not sure it's the people who were firing or the police officers. but that has been confirmed over the past couple of minutes by me after talking to a neighbor who did not want to go on

camera. you can see detectives are now at the scene. they are standing right in front of the home with that garage open. that's the epicenter of what went down at around one 30 in the overnight hours. we believe this is a domestic violence situation involving up father and son. we don't see any ambulances or coroner's office here. police officers are extremely tight-lipped about what's going on. but i mentioned the ambulance with the coroner's office meeting. this could end without a fatality. obviously in the coroner's office is here. that means somebody died. but we don't see any and we don't see officers acting very urgently meeting, perhaps none of their officers are injured by all of this. i have reached out to the concord police department heee as well as back after police department. and now you see detectives here and we hope to get more information as the morning moves on. this is at natoma and willow pass road.

organizations or an organization called safe moraga filed a lawsuit against the city and it alleges that it's violated. the california environmental quality act by approving a 66 unit development without for studying how it will affect residents to have to evacuate during a wildfire. as of right now, the town only has 2 lane roads and 2 ways to get in and out. and that's it. >> the difficulty here is when you have so much population concentrated in such such a tiny place service by only a narrow roadways. the minute you yell fire, it's going to be a panic. >> officials with the town of rada say they have not yet been served with the lawsuit so they can't provide any comment at this point. >> it's 07:34am and protesters from coast to coast around the bay spent their presidents day denouncing president trump. this is what we saw from our nation's capital to sacramento, to san diego, to all around the bay area. the theme was no kings on

presidents day and the demonstrators were demonstrating against the president's policies and also agaiest elon musk's influence. >> very upset about musk and his minions accessing our data and messing with the computer systems. they're an elected and then not being adequately supervise. >> not only was it a show of defiance in front of san francisco city hall, but also another group gathered along van ness avenue in front of the tesla building in their signs. read musk must go and greed is the virus. organizers around the bay are calling the demonstrations peaceful action then and they want attention to what they are complaining about in san jose. there hundreds gathered for the museum of art. they marched to the downtown and that included state assembly member ash cholera. and he spoke briefly about resisting the current administration. >> we have to keep showing up. if look ships, part of

protected our around the world, where are all on a cause? people in the dark and down. job. so everyone of what i see here are patriotic american. >> organizers are also asking people to take part in a day of action next week. and that's in the form of an economic black out. they want to encourage americans not to spend at any major retailers on that blackout day, which is set for february. 28. >> well, if you've taken an uber ride recently, you might notice that your fares costing more than ever. and that's why uber is pushing our state to lower insurance costs. they say california's high insurance requirements are passed on to consumers and drivers. uber says in la up to 45%, nearly half of the fair goes to pay for insurance in other cities like dc that have fewer regulations. only 5% of the fair goes to insurance.

and so the ride cost can go way down. at this point. leaders in other states like arizona have already taken actions to lower costs. and uber wants california to do the same. >> you can have very robust coverage, which is we think a requirement right, right for without burdening the system unnecessarily in creating costs that all consumers that have to pay. >> uber is alleging personal injury. attorneys know about their high insurance requirements and so were targeting rideshare companies with frivolous lawsuits. they say costs from those suits are shouldered by both customers and drivers. all right. take a look at your screen. police say a car just like this one was involved in a deadly hit and run 3 weeks ago in hayward. the collision happened right near his spirit boulevard and street. police describe this cars being white midsize lexus with dark and black rims like you see here, they say there's possible damage to the front left bumper and left side including

broken headlights, possible damage could and windshield. they're asking anyone with information about the driver of that car to give them a call. >> its 7.37 and our continuing coverage of the nba nba star jalen. well specifically. joining now, a group that is again, sonoma state university's plan to get rid of its athletics department completely. wells played 2 seasons at sonoma state 2021. 23 and after taking part in the nba all-star weekend, wells was back at his alma mater revisited there yesterday and recalled how sonoma state was one of the few schools that offered him the chance to play college basketball and he's concerned that if sports is cut completely than other young athletes may not get the opportunities that changed his life. >> i mean, i bet you those kids and run a park that come to these games and you know, they they enjoy it. it makes them want to play these sports and things like that. so i
