was very real with his constituents tonight explaining the hurdles he faces in dc working under the trump administration. >> nearly one month into president donald trump's second term. congressman eric swalwell encouraging his constituents to stand strong at a town hall in union city tuesday night. our job in government is to protect people. and right now they don't feel safe. they see cuts to the faa and plane crash the latest plane crash happening monday when a delta flight from minneapolis crash landed at the toronto pearson airport flipping upside down on the runway. all 80 people survived. but 21 passengers were hospitalized. 48 hours prior to people died in a small plane crash in georgia. >> and last month, the deadliest u.s. air disaster in 15 years happened in dc when an army helicopter collided midair with an alaska airlines flight sending both into the

potomac river killing 67 people. president trump has publicly faulted federal diversity and inclusion efforts specifically with air traffic controllers. however, swalwell places the blame on trump writing on x, quote, no president has had more plane crashes in their first month in office. then donald trump, president trump. >> needs to tell us that he's going to take responsibility. is the chief executive of this country to make us safer and the skies because he seems to want to blame everything on dei. he blamed the crash over the potomac on dei. but to me, if donald trump says something was caused by dei, it means didn't even investigate because he just uses it. now as an alibi, it's not just the faa seeing >> elon musk's department of government efficiency or doge has laid off thousands of employees from several agencies. 14 democratic states

>> sarah, thank you. well, yet another deadly plane crash we've been reporting on happened in alaska earlier this month. in all 10 people on board were killed after the commuter plane crashed off of the western part of the state. and we've learned that one of those victims was from the bay area. kron four's. lindsey ford spoke with his family and friends and she will have that full story coming up tonight at 11, 10, 30. >> new at 10, a south bay deputy is in critical condition tonight after he was injured in a head-on crash. the santa clara county sheriff's office confirms deputy daniel arevalo said got into a crash while driving to work on valentine's day. the peace officers research association of california has set up an online fundraiser to help the deputy and his family, according to the page, arevalo is has been with the santa clara county sheriff's office since 2020. he's undergone multiple surgeries since the crash. an investigation into that crash is ongoing. >> domestic violence call turned into a police shooting in concord, ending with the

suspect dead at around one 40 this morning. concord police say they responded to a report of a person attacking a family member. this happened on that home and drive off of busy willow pass road. when officers arrived a time and stabbing his family member with a knife. police then shot and killed the man and the victim was rushed to a local hospital. they are expected to survive them. neighbors telling us this violence was just too close to home. >> yeah, i was woken up because i pow, pow and i thought it was like from willow pass road that was going on like and i heard cop cars or whatever. so i thought it was all somebody chasing somebody or something down there. that it. >> part of that area was expected to remain cordoned off this evening as officials were continuing to collect >> new alameda county district attorney ursula jones dickson has been sworn in. she took the oath of office this afternoon, dixon's replacing pamela price to voters

recalled in november job. top priorities fix >> ready for you both. >> jones dixon says her top priorities include removing prices charging directives, which made it more add enhance months, 2 charges. she will also begin a review of the attorneys and the da's office to see who's up to the task and who needs training. >> i think our biggest call is going to be to try to make sure that victims in the community realize that it is our job. this is a victim centered process. it's our job to make sure they are hurt and as much as possible they get the things that they need out of this process. if you have to come to the da's office is never a good time right? you're not here for fun. but the expectation is that somebody is hearing you, they're listening to you and they're making sure that your needs are being met as best that we can. >> former alameda county da's tom orloff and san francisco

to the hospital. it happened on almaden expressway just north of brenham lane kron. four's joc moment reports. >> it was a multi vehicle car accident that shut down out of the expressway in both directions here on tuesday. the accident has many neighbors concerned that the next time that this happens, it will be deadly. home surveillance camera footage capturing the moment of impact. it shows a car heading southbound on alvin expressway, kicking up dirt from the center median before slamming into the car headed northbound. the crash happened just after one 30 in the afternoon and police arrived within just a couple minutes school. we saw the police cars and ambulance come through. so we knew that something really significant had happened one person suffered minor injuries and the other is in serious condition as of tuesday night. >> michele ferrari came to see the damage for herself. very sound. >> you know, we further down in the albany area this you

can get some bad driving up in this for certain. she says she's not surprised by the crash now. absolutely. absolutely. you know, people that people don't respect the speed limit. >> and they. stepped in and out of lanes because they want to get somewhere. and so it just. this not well controlled. >> this particular section about what the expressway is part of a high priority corridor, according to the city of san jose's vision, 0 plan aimed at reducing the number of traffic fatalities in san jose in 2024. san jose had 49 traffic deaths 2023. there were 47. the truth is we're not treating this as a crisis. >> we're treating this is a fact blocks and we need to look forward to seeing how we can deal with that with the resources that we have not seagulls streets advocate and says large expressways like alamuddin are treated like highways. wasn't designed saying when we design our highways and as a result, it

has a lot of the speeds of highways with the safety measures, not a city planner. i don't know what they would need to do. would be nice if they found a way to do that. the road reopened around 6 in the evening. >> and for neighbors like ferrari, they hope something is done soon to slow the historic rate of traffic accidents in san jose. i don't know what they would need to do. maybe more frequent stop lights along the way particular section about. but an expressway is actually one that the city of san jose says needs improving. according to the 2025 draft plan from the city of san jose's vision, 0 goals. >> this section about expressway, specifically the fox where the intersection is slated to receive grant money from the county and the city to improve street lights reporting here in san jose jacmel. but kron 4 news. >> union city police say the man hit by a car last night has died. we first told you about this on kron. 4 news at 10 o'clock. crash shut down the eastbound alvarado niles road at almaden boulevard overnight. police say the

camera shop owner in berkeley says it overnight burglary left her business with. >> hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses. group used a car to bust through the front entrance of looking glass photo surveillance video shows the group ran sack in the business on 5th street just after 5.30, sunday morning. the owner says they were in and out in less than 5 minutes gone before police officers arrived the thieves even bypassed a blockade installed in front of the store. it was just added to the building back in july. >> in the $50,000 worth of the physical damage to the stories. measurable. >> so far the community has donated more than $50,000 to help with the recovery effort. a transgender berkeley woman who is the alleged leader of a cult like group known as the zizians.

>> will remain behind bars appearing before a judge video conference in maryland today. 34 year-old jack la sota and 2 other cult members were ordered to be held without bail today. the trio was arrested sunday. they face charges, including trespassing, obstructing hindering and possession of a handgun in a vehicle does is ian group is concerned with technology and human cognition. they're linked to more than a handful of deaths. they're rampant ram or that their violent started in 2022. when police say they killed of a lay home and after squatting on his property, the most recent death was that of a u.s. border patrol agent near the canadian border just last month, chevron is considering leaving california. the oil giant announced today. >> and wants to stay but certain laws passed in the state are making it hard for them to do so. just last year, governor newsom called a special session and signed new law requiring oil companies to keep minimum oil inventories

pick up a couple of scattered light showers north of the golden gate bridge. temperatures today running a little bit above the average 62 degrees in san francisco. slightly below the average in oakland. 59 that he had some nice mid 60's through san jose and the more conquered. and santa rosa. 59 cooler in half moon bay. but we're going to some really nice temperatures ahead as we get toward the weekend. i think kind of a real taste of spring coming our way the door. you got cloudy skies. temperatures hovering in the low to about the mid 50's outside right now. i think as we look toward tomorrow will be a little cooler spots that breeze is going to kick into. we do have a weak cold front begin to slide the state. most energy from the system going to roll all the way up 7 northwest. you can see a couple of scattered showers being picked up by the doppler radar. n fact, he knew for closer look, even a couple scattered showers in the north bay. so this really just a weak system, kind of sliding on through member last week. we're talking about storms producing inches of rain. now we're talking about hundreds of an inch of rain. so a big difference coming our way overnight tonight see this drop-in, though, could affect

low-income students of color, ages 15 to 25 years old to the gaming world. >> if you give students the best hardware in the best software and then you provide them with the best instructors in the best mentors. they'll get very good and that that was always my theory. and where we're proud to see that actually coming to fruition. >> packwood is a san francisco a lot like a lot of these students and i grew up in low-income communities after earning his master's, he was teaching web design. but it wasn't long before you realized students were more interested in learning about gaming, then coding. they want to learn. >> and it's just that sometimes we're not teaching them things that they want want in the game heads program, students gain a competitive edge with free classes. mentorship. >> and a state-of-the-art gaming center and lab students can stay enrolled until they get a job in the industry or age out. they do 6 months of in-class learning. >> all of our classes are taught by video game industry professionals during the

summer. they all get video game industry professional mentors and they have to build a game over 15 weeks and then they have to showcase that game at the end of the summer and then they have to release that game online by the end of the year game heads black owned and operated in an industry that packwood says lacks representation. the numbers are out of >> that's why it's so significant that we have an african-american board. >> of people that are in the gaming industry because they they only represented 2%. and we just so happened get some of those legendary 2% to kind of help build out the organization game heads partners with major players like sony and x box and just celebrated 10 years as a nonprofit. >> packwood says one of their biggest accomplishment helping a couple students land a job on the hit game. marvel's spider-man 2. >> i was like that was a big like a matching. what kind of

andrew gonzalez. >> was among 10 people killed when that plane went down earlier this month. and tonight kron four's lindsey ford spoke to his wife, family and friends who say they are >> devastated by this loss. she joins us in the newsroom. now with more. lindsay. >> yeah, this has been a heartbreaking loss for gonzales is wife whitney and his loved ones. they say there is nothing that could ever replace the spirit in islam in their lives. >> someone that's very hard to define so many things. whitney bowers, the widow of andrew gonzales, says he was selfless soul crushing everyone's at a loss. it is unimaginable. but what is our current reality? gonzales, who is from santa rosa was one of 10 people killed in a plane crash in alaska earlier this month. the small commuter plane went down in the bering sea gonzalez who worked as a power generation technician had to travel a lot to small remote areas. so i was at home waiting to come from. landing from that

flight. got a feeling check to flight tracker. there is no new information on it. and i knew something was wrong. bowers never got the call from her husband, andrew. his remains along the others was found by search crews days later. whitney and andrew both grew up in santa rosa and got engaged in moved to alaska back in 2022. >> whitney's close with gonzales is older sister francaise carga who is also grieving, though he's might be my baby brother. this. >> part of our family. all feeling it. all of us goods all as his co-workers, michael burden, jared beaudoin also feel the pain. michael's favorite thing to do with andrew was having game night. he definitely had a sense of humor that could make anybody laugh and you never knew it was coming. >> he was a blast to work with jared help gonzales get his job in alaska. he lived a life

introducing a bill that could bring new bars and restaurants to the areas around union square in mice county center. >> by offering 20 new liquor licenses. the licenses are billed as a low cost with details to be announced later. we know that downtown financial district to union square. >> south of market europe when it is absolutely essential. we know that when people are trying to open up new bars or restaurants, it is extremely expensive. and one of the most significant costs is obtaining a liquor license. they can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. we should be making it easier. >> not harder for businesses to set up here. right now. state law limits are number of liquor licenses and they are expensive and hard to get. >> the new liquor licenses would be in a hospitality zone. the boundaries to be determined by the board of supervisors. city leaders figure they have to try just about anything. they've been dealing with a string of

separate ceasefire in gaza is nearing the end of its first phase saying it will release the bodies of 4 deceased israeli hostages on thursday. in addition to 6 living hostages on saturday, hamas has also committed to releasing the remains for more deceased hostages by next week. >> the vatican gave an update on pope francis's condition today. church officials say he has developed pneumonia in both they say the respiratory infection further complicated by asthmatic bronchitis. the 88 year-old was at in their condition on friday. but worsened in the following days. timeline for his release has not yet been announced. the vatican over says he will not be attending events through this weekend. officials say the pope remains in good spirits. he is grateful for the prayers for his recovery. at least 14 people have been killed in kentucky after the state was hit by.

>> devastating flooding over the weekend which is left 10's of thousands without power 1000 swift water rescues. kentucky governor andy beshear called it one of the most her events the state has seen in a decade. parts of kentucky and tennessee got up to 6 inches of rain as those storms swept across the region. governor gavin newsom says that he sent an emergency response team to assist the relief and recovery operations in kentucky. our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow checking in with the weather now. calm here, lauren. some pretty serious all across the country. yeah, they're not catching a break in kentucky. of course they had the flooding rains and now we've got cold air coming behind that. so those folks are damaged homes. now we've got freezing temperatures and a lot of snow on the way. so dangerous conditions. i think across a good part of the country over the next couple of weeks, we're going to see temperatures probably running above average here in california. the rest of the country. they are going to be freezing. you can see all that cold air just plunging deep in the south. and now you're

seeing all that snow. you've got some freezing rain here in purple in between just a mess across much of the country's midsection headed eastward as the storm continues to make its way east coming. a lot of snow. i think we're talking about 8 inches of snow across parts of the south tomorrow and that will continue toward the eastern seaboard. that's on the way and will continue to bring them some heavy snow. and behind that, you get all that cold air trapped. so you've got places like dallas that is talking about extreme cold warnings being posted. there doesn't happen all the time, but with that wind chill, we're talking about temperatures feel like maybe -10 degrees in dallas. i mean, that is dangerous cold. here's where we sit right now at the forecast. that storm system is going to head east. all that cold air is going to plunge deep across much of the country. and so it is going to be frigid out there just about wherever you go. here's a look at some of the current temperatures outside right now. 27 degrees in norman. 23 right now in dallas, 27 degrees. nashville, 5 degrees in chicago and -8 in green bay. a throwing the winds as we look toward tomorrow. boy,

it is going to be frigid all across the country you get to the north and again, we're talking about -30 -40 in some cases, almost -50 degrees. that is just dangerous cold. meantime, back out west, we've got a weak system coming through bringing a chance of showers here. but then after that high pressure builds our temperatures start to warm up as we get toward the weekend. we're talking about temperatures may be in the 70's around parts of the bay area. so a nice weather trend for us. but a chance more showers as we head toward the middle of next week. not going to be a big sister member last week. we're talking to 4 inches of rain. now we're talking about maybe about 400 so, yeah, not as much, but it could be wet early on the morning tomorrow. by the afternoon you start to see partly cloudy skies. temperatures going to be a little bit cooler and the winds likely to kick up tomorrow to maybe some gusts 20 to 30 miles an hour along the coastline. highs generally be in the 50's and about the low 60's over the next couple days. we're going to return to some much nicer weather. tell you one. look at this as we get close to the weekend. how about that? we're planning that out. right? temperatures begin to pop up in the 70's

pup was found roaming the streets of a bustling downtown area about 20 miles away from the ocean and new haven, connecticut. when police got the call and the seal roaming the streets initially thought it was a prank. well, turns out it wasn't about estimated to be about 5 to 6 weeks old. he was spotted out 7 oyster bar and grill on saturday. the rescue team from the local aquarium pick them up, brought him back to the beach, only from the water back into the city. that next, the pit the pup is a bit underweight. they're taking care of it until i can be released back into the wild, really, city life. well likes the oyster right one of the cops said might want to waste or peeps. i guess the source or a like that. >> about that. that wraps up
