arizona. thank you so much for joining us here on kron. 4 news at noon. i'm stephanie lin. authorities say 2 people are dead after 2 small planes crashed. this happened in southern arizona around a regional airport around 8.30, local time. there. the faa says 2 people were on board each plane. them are on a regional airport, has 2 intersecting runways, but operates without an air traffic control tower. a multimillion dollar project was underway to build a tower but delays due to the covid pandemic pushed back construction. tens of thousands of flights arrive and depart from this airport annually. the ntsb is investigating this crash. and last week in arizona, a pilot died on a private jet owned by the lead singer of motley crue when his plane went off a runway and hit a business jet in the past 3 weeks. there have been at least a plane crashes, 6 of them deadly on january 29th. 67 people died when helicopter rather

american airlines plane crash near reagan national airport. and this was the deadliest crash in the u.s. since 2001, 2 days later, 6 people were killed when a small medical plane crashed after takeoff in philadelphia and on february 6.10, people were killed when a small passenger plane vanished before wreckage was found in alaska on february 10th. one person died when 2 private jets crashed at scottsdale airport in arizona. 2 days later, a military plane crashed into the san diego bay. on sunday. 2 people died when a small plane crashed after takeoff east of atlanta. and on monday, a delta flight flipped while landing in toronto. and then the fatal crash, of course, outside of tucson today, we are following all of this for you closely on air and online. you as we learn more details, you can find moore all plane crashes we've seen so far this year versus last year on our website kron 4 dot com. in the bay area. the san carlos airport contract negotiations

for air traffic controllers have stalled. that's according to san mateo county mueller. he says this could put sky ways over the county at risk. the contract dispute comes amid ongoing national questions over aviation safety in the midst of job cuts at the faa by the trump administration. we've reached out to the faa, said carlos airport and supervisor mueller and we'll have more for you on this developing story later this afternoon. and after president trump's executive orders on immigration, members of the interfaith community in san francisco are gathering to show support for the city's sanctuary city policy was. charles clifford is live for us now in san francisco with the latest details on the stros. well, good afternoon. yeah. right now in front saint mark's lutheran church or along a feral in san francisco. >> where faith leaders are rallying, as you can see behind me here to show their support for the immigrant community and the sanctuary ruled that churches and synagogues and other places of worship play in their lives. let's going take a look at some video here from inside a short time ago. dozens of faith organizations came

together on wednesday to show support for will that churches and other houses of worship plant played as places of sanctuary. they are particularly troubled by the trump administration stating that immigration officers may be allowed to make arrests in churches, synagogues, temples, other places of worship. more than 2 dozen, a religious organizations have filed a federal lawsuit challenging that policy. and those at wednesday's rally said the places of worship should remain safe havens. >> we do not turn our backs on each other. we do not round people up. we do not send them back into harm's way because sanctuary is not just a place. it's a calling. it's wholly resistance. this has always been true. and when the government makes it hard for us to love neighbors as people of faith, we do it anyway. >> all right. back live now. they also expressed their support for san francisco sanctuary the

that's exactly what they are doing in san francisco. this is one of 33 cameras throughout the city of san francisco that will capture people going too fast. they have balloons and signs the community turned out and no accident for 7th in gary. this is one of the most dangerous stretches of road in san francisco. and they want drivers to slow down because the faster they go deadly year. the accident. and jamie, you knows that all too well. >> so 40 years ago on this coming saturday, my mom was struck by a speeding suv on parker cdo in anza boulevard. she got her body from other side oe the road where she suffers now from traumatic brain injury. she has severe depression, she suicidal and has severe posttraumatic stress disorder. she physically is still able to move around with assistance. but she cognitively is nowhere near where she was before and she needs constant

supervision. 24 hours, 7 days a at that. very your life for a life. your family's lives haven't ever done this. >> it it is a day of constant not knowing someone with cognitive impairment. there's no structure. there's no really knowing what she's going to be like. so every day is like a new, unfortunate surprise that we fnrgot what too, how to take care of her and how to just really make sure she's ok. >> they were making signs here as well. and then the kids were holding up signs. i want to show you some of them slow your roll in the richmond and then there's another sign that says go slow for seniors. and then i also made a sign. and then let's talk about how much you will be pay if you go too fast of the ticket prices, if you go 11 miles per hour over the speed limit, that's $50.60. miles over. you're looking at $100. and then 26 or more over that $200. and god forbid you go 100 miles

per hour over the speed limit. it is $500. the cameras right now. they're just calibrating, but they will go online in mid-march. back to you. >> 7 this afternoon, let's talk a bit about our forecast live. look outside at the bridge here. well, looking pretty damp out there, that's right. we started out just a little drizzly this morning. >> thanks for here. as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge. you can see just a little bit of wetness on the road below are doing a little bit better here because the north bay and the golden gate now getting some clearing of the system. you can see as it's been rolling through. now. notice these are not heavy downpours, butethere are still some of them right now rolling through the east bay and the south bay. but we're starting to get some clearing behind that. and i can tell you, i can see out the window. we're standing right now. we're getting a little sunshine kind of starting to peak in in san francisco. so this is not really our system is really the people to the north of us that are seeing the bulk of this. we're just catching the tail end of it. so that is why our totals, you know, just measuring in the hun reds of in an inch today

practices. proffers joey horta has the latest from hayward. >> few dozen union members out here picketing carrying signs blasting music, letting their voices be heard. they've been working without a contract. they since december 31st. port tells us they're still open negotiations. a strike will disrupt hearings boston today. some felons to be released from jail that case could not heard before state deadlines, according to the union says are strike because >> one in 5 positions are vacant. say the court using not trained to work as courtroom clerk. >> i don't want to be out here, but we are here because we're trying to fight for workers rights and we're trying to fight for our community. >> people need to keep up with the cost of living living in the bay area. live in the world. these days is more expensive. they're also calling for better pay and worried time. but the court says they are overstaffed by about 100 employees. >> and we have to lay off

staff members in order to increase pay. court says filling vacant roles would depend on the governor's budget. union is expecting about 50 people to show up here as they continue to strike. and if you have jury duty or criminal case, you are still expected to show up to the courthouse in hayward. joey horta kron. 4 news. >> in the east bay police made at least 60 arrests in oakland during nba all-star weekend. many of those arrests were connected to crimes like homicide, robberies and vandalism. opd also arrested 18 dui drivers and gave out nearly 180 traffic citations due to the city's budget deficit. the nba help cover the cost of extra patrols and security. and new at noon. governor gavin newsom sharing details on the state's fight against fentanyl in january. nearly 4 million dollars worth of the drug was taken off the streets. the governor's office adding since 2023 state task forces have seized 300 million dollars worth of fentanyl. but now resources are deployed statewide from ports along the coast. the cities. still ahead

make that promise to a fix. >> at the alameda county administration building in oakland, dan kerman kron. 4 news. in the south. a new video today from santa clara county shows progress on a new flood prevention project. >> more than 8500 feet of flood walls have been added along 4 miles of coyote creek valley. water says the walls are between old oakland road and 2.80. 2.16, this afternoon. let's talk a bit about our forecast now as we take a live look outside at the golden gate bridge i was driving in this morning a and some small showers coming in down across the embarcadero. yeah, just a little bit. it's going to roll through pretty quickly here. in fact, a good portion of the bay area's now starting to see a little bit of clearing. we're also seeing a little bit of wind start to pick up. you can see that as we take a live look here at the embarcadero. that will be the next part of this. >> is it gonna get a little breezy out there going to see the winds turn more from the northerly direction, particularly up in the north bay where some of these gusts could get upwards of 2025 miles per hour. so this is this afternoon into this evening. and you can even see

2 as we get tomorrow. we're going to still have some of that wind that will be with us. so that will be kind of the end of this system. we are still working our way out of some of these light showers, though. you certainly see that here as we take a live look at the san mateo bridge. so my advice is, if you have to drive, just understand that you might want to take a little extra time as we wait for those roads to kind of dry out. this is a look at the system you can see it's also bring in just a tiny bit of snow to the sierra. not a whole lot today for that, but just a little bit. and really this kind of pushes through and then we say a little unsettled. that's the end of that. and then we dry out. and if we take a look at the 6 to 10 day precipitation outlook, we're kind of looking ahead here. you can see not only do we dry out for tomorrow and heading towards the weekend into next week as well. is that the 1st half of the week we are expecting drier than normal conditions. so a chance to kind of try out. this is live look from the east bay. and i have to say, i could see a whole lot a few minutes ago, but we are going to see the move its way back in and then the temperatures are really going to lift up as we head over the next few days. that

will be kind of the next story that we have. and the reason that's happening, it's once this low pressure moves on, high pressure starts to build in and it is going to kind of deflect any other systems to the north of us. and that's what will keep us dry. now, we will have a few clouds that will overrun that ridge. and that's why we'll see some of those cloudier conditions. as we look into spots like saturday. but we will have some sunshine in there, too. and boy, these temperatures are just looking really nice. and you don't have to say as far as the 7 day forecast coast, this is a really good looking one, right? we don't have any rain after this in the forecast for the next 7 days. kind of like that. yeah. sounds great. thanks so much. and a family is remembering a husband and friend who died in a plane crash alaska. >> santa rosa native andrew gonzalez was among 10 people killed. kron lindsey ford spoke to the victim's wife and france. >> someone that's very hard to define so many things. whitney bowers, the widow of andrew gonzales, says he was selfless soul crushing everyone's at a loss. it is unimaginable. what

what is our current reality? gonzales, who is from santa rosa was one of 10 people killed in a plane crash in alaska earlier this month. the small commuter plane went down in the bering sea gonzalez who worked as a power generation technician had to travel a lot to small remote areas. so i was at home waiting to come from. landing from that flight. got a feeling check to flight tracker. there is no new information on it. and i knew something was wrong. bowers never got the call from her husband, andrew. his remains along the others was found by search crews days later. whitney and andrew both grew up in santa rosa and got engaged in moved to alaska back in 2022. whitney's close with gonzales is older sister francaise carga who is also grieving, though he's might be my baby brother. >> part of our family. all feeling it. all of us. that's

>> those agencies include the fcc in the sec, which have long been considered outside a president's direct control. >> one of president donald trump's executive orders signed on tuesday removes the longtime independence of several major agencies, including the federal communications commission. the federal trade commission and the securities and exchange commission. this executive order would establish important oversight functions in the office of management and budget and also reestablish is the longstanding norm. >> that only the president or the attorney general can speak for the united states when stating an opinion as to what the law is. the order would expand the president's authority by consolidating their control over several independent agencies, even though congress established those agencies to operate on their own. the move is almost certain to face legal challenges amid ongoing blowback from democrats. donald trump has waged a scorched earth campaign against the rule of law.

dramatic rescue in colorado on monday. a man was trapped by avalanche while snowmobiling at vail pass summit county. sheriff deputies say it took one hour to get to this man, body camera video shows the rescue teams digging him out of the snow. the man was wearing avalanche airbag that deployed when he went under this allowed the rescuers to find him much faster. deputies say the man was released from the hospital and is doing well. >> and britta life back into san francisco. still ahead on kron, 4 news at noon, a new bill that could help changed out. and after the break, we'll catch with oakland's interim mayor about the latest coming out of the town.

>> welcome back. we're joined live now by oakland's interim mayor kevin jenkins. good afternoon to you. good afternoon. thank you for having of course. thanks so much for joining us again. of course, a very busy weekend for the bay area. oakland saw a lot of those activities as well nba all-star weekend. go for you. >> i saw cisco kind of hole. article this morning. one all-star weekend. and so it was amazing that people of oakland really enjoyed it. they came and showed hbcu classic was great. the slammed the all-star game was packed and also we had a lot of service events. we do there volunteer activities. there were activation. so it was amazing. so that open is still a sports town with a rabbit sports fan base. yeah, we're showing some of that video from this past weekend on the screen. there is just great to see all those crowds and people drumming up the excitement on the court. there

sits a >> some positive energy coming to open. that's being showcased here. now we understand that your officers, they also made dozens of arrests last weekend as part of the stepped up security efforts around all those events. >> can you walk us through what happened? >> yeah. so what i'm thankful to the governor, right to help provide chp during the weekend to ensure that was going to be safe. our officers an amazing job listing. i think more than 60 11 some other violent felonies. but most importantly, the city safe. and that's what we're continuing to push its public safety and the city. we want presidents businesses, visitors, everyone to feel safe when they come to our city >> now this upcoming weekend is, of course, another busy one for you. you have the oakland lunar new year parade and the black joy parade. so can you walk us through what's planned here? first? >> moon or a new year is going to be 17 jackson. 11:00am on

saturday. and that's a great time. it is the year of the snake and i want to make sure i'm going to out and my we will have lions dancing and it just shows the culture that is here oakland. the very following day we have joy parade, which it's going to be point and we're very excited about that. i participated black joy parade every single year. and it's one of my favorite festival crates. >> you know, we're at believe. we also some showing some of the video of what's planned on the screen there as well. it's nice to see again, some fund that's coming to the city of oakland. again this weekend. now, when it comes to public safety around these events, are you planning more stepped up enforcement as well? >> yes, there a especially when there's big advance. we start rise with opd. i don't think that mercy operation center will be open, but we strategize when these big events to ensure public safety ensure that people are safe and that they have pleasant experience when it comes to

our said. >> yeah. now given us an update on where things stand on the budget now. so what's the latest when it comes to maintaining that appropriate level of public safety with the fire stations and police, especially given that you have these very high profile, exciting events. >> so right now i'm working with finance department, the city administration to put together our biannual budget. we have some very tough decisions to make as a like number of other cities up and down. california are faced with the structural budget deficit is something that's came out of the pandemic. we're going to have to make tough choices. but we have to get back to basics. oaklanders too often complained that the city does not do a good enough job doing basic services. so what that means is i homes are built. the police come when you call them. our city is clean. and so we're putting that back to basics. budget together. and with that, we're prioritizing public safety, fiscal solvency.

>> a new alameda county da was also sworn in yesterday. have you been in touch with her or have you had any conversations around criminal justice and public safety? >> i had the opportunity and meeting with the new district attorney last she had a reception apple can over here plant. and it one of 4 time speaking with and the next 2 weeks. we are planning on doing a wine along. i with the chief 1, 2, to 3 hours just to look at all the probiems our city is facing. and she's absolutely committed to doing the work to ensure that we have public safety here. not only in oakland, but also now under the cap. >> alright, oakland, interim mayor kevin jenkins, thank you so much for your time this afternoon. we do appreciate it. thank you so much for having me. >> all right. well, 34 this afternoon. and take a live look outside at the embarcadero. and it's looking

a bit gray out there. kyla has rights to a little cloudy. we should get some clearing as we get later into the afternoon. >> i want to take you to, you know, 70. take a look at this beautiful right as we take a look at half dome here. >> all of the snow on the ground just gorgeous. and this year right now, now heading to lake tahoe. it has been a little rainy, a little drizzly. they have a little bit of snow earlier. you can see one lone person kind of braving the weather. wait, there's 2. there's 3 couple more showed up in the last minute or so. 45 degrees there right now. we do have some light rain that's coming down. wind is about 12 miles per hour. they are under a lake wind advisory today. but you can see where this is starting to roll through right now. and it is going to be pretty short-lived will be lucky to maybe get an inch of snow up at peaks here. but mostly it's going to be rain as you can see that purple lee line indicating that rain, that rain snow line, right, where that 32 degree mark as were some of the snowflakes are falling. and once that clears up pretty much done with that, we 2 are going to see some clearing as we work our way into the afternoon. you can see of these light showers kind of rolled from the northwest down to the southeast now. so at the

to it. as you can see was very light showers just enough to make those roads a little slick. maybe slow you down a little bit this morning. but right now, south bay east bay kind of seeing the end of it. we get a few sprinkles out there. but that's about it. once that is done. temperature wise south, a little warmer. there are about 62 in san jose but 50's across the rest of the bay area. we should get into some of those low 60's inland. and in fact, we just hit 60 in concord. there you go. 55 in san francisco right now. and as we work through future cast here, there it is. and there it there's worst are going to get some of that clearing in this afternoon and this evening, setting us up for a really nice thursday. there's thursday, right? looking good there. nice and dry. and then let's talk temperatures. this shows the departure from normal. some taking you into thursday and friday. this is friday showing, you know, a lot areas that are going to be 5 degrees above normal. and then you can see it expands to more areas as we head into saturday and sunday. so that means these temperatures. we'll be above where we're supposed to be inland. right now we're supposed to be about 62 degrees. so we're talking, you

know, 67 68, i think a few places given popped into that 70 degree. mark. here we are on monday. so this also has some legs. it has some longevity, right? it's not just one or 2 days. the reason for it is these low pressure systems are going to be bumped out of the way and kind of kept away from us by high pressure that starts to move in. and you see where those oranges and yellows move up. that's an indication of those temperatures are going up. right? so that's the warmer temperatures kind of rising in and that ridge gets built in and essentially just bumps anything away from us and keeps us been really nice. nice weather for the next 7 days. so a few clouds will overrun that a little bit. we'll see it on saturday. but you know what? when we get a few clouds, we get some really spectacular sunset. so keep an eye out for that, too. but a really lovely 7 day forecast back great. thank you so much. >> the mlb commissioner says stadium in las vegas will be ready by 2028. as for stadium in sacramento, sutter health park commissioner rob manfred told fans at media day the park will be as close to a big league facility as possible. the athletics host the first
