immigrant wednesday dozens of faith organizations came out to show support for the traditional rule, churches and houses of worship have played as places of sanctuary there, particularly troubled by the trump administration stating that immigration officers may be allowed to make arrests in places like churches, synagogues and temples. more than 2 dozen religious organizations have filed a federal lawsuit. >> challenging that, paul, seeing those at wednesday's rally said that places of worship should remain safe havens. >> we do not turn our backs on each other. we do not round people up. we do not send them back into harm's way because sanctuary is not just a place. it's a calling. it's wholly resistance. this has always been true. and when the government makes it hard for us to love neighbors as people of faith, we do it anyway. >> boeing the rally. those in attendance marched through san

francisco's japantown to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the incarceration of 125,000 japanese americans during world war. 2 in san francisco, charles clifford kron. 4 news. >> tragedy striking outside of tucson, arizona, after 2 small planes crash into each other, killing at least 2 people. this happened at and regional airport around 8.30, local time. the faa says 2 people were aboard each plane. now the regional airport has 2 intersecting runways, but it operates without an air traffic control tower. a multimillion dollar project was underway to build the tower, but delay is due to the covid pandemic pushback. construction, tens of thousands of flights arrive and depart from the airport every year. the ntsb is investigating this crash. and last week in arizona pilot died on a private jet owned by the lead singer of motley crue with his plane went off a runway and hit a business jet and then the past 3 weeks, there have been at least 8

plane crashes, 6 of them deadly january 29th. 67 people died when an army helicopter and american airlines plane crash near reagan national airport. this was the deadliest crash in the u.s. since 2001, 2 days later, 6 people killed when a small medical plane crashed after takeoff in philadelphia on february. 6th. 10 people were killed when a small passenger plane vanished before the wreckage was found in alaska on february 10th. one person died when 2 private jets crashed at scottsdale airport in arizona. and the 2 days later, a military plane crashed into the san diego bay sunday. 2 people died when a small plane crashed just east of atlanta on monday. a delta flight flipped over while landing in toronto. and then this fatal crash today outside of tucson. we have more information on all these crashes on our website. kron 4 dot com. and also speaking of that toronto crash, authorities continue to investigate what might have

cause that delta plane to crash. in the flip over at that toronto airport on monday. aviation experts say investigators will consider the weather conditions as well as the possibility of aircraft malfunction as well as human error. a video showing the moment the plane made impact is raising some questions about the pilot's actions. experts say that the clip appears to show that the pilot did not raise the aircraft's nose during the descent. canada's transportation safety board with the help of the faa are heading into the probe of this crash. in the bay area at the san carlos airport. contract negotiations for air traffic controllers have stalled. that's according to san mateo county mueller. he says this could put the sky ways over the county at risk. the current contract has been extended until april 15th. the contract dispute. it's coming amid ongoing national questions over aviation safety in the midst of job cuts at the faa by the trump

administration. we've reached out to the faa, the san carlos airport and the supervisor all have more on the story coming up on kron 4. in the south bay. we have new video today from santa clara county showing some progress on a new flood prevention project. more than 8500 feet of flood walls have been added along 4 miles of coyote creek valley. water says the walls between old oakland road and 2.80. >> live outside right now what's happening here across the goal. gabe rich, starting to see some blue skies cuyler in the weather center letting us know foresee any more rain today. yeah, we're looking good right now. little sun breaking through and san jose you can see across the bay area. still some cloud hanging on, but we will see things improve as we get into the evening. and yes. >> we have just seen the clouds lift from the golden gate so that, you know, the roads are drying out, which is really nice right now. and we are starting to get a little bit of clearing. so is there still a chance of a shower? sure. there's a little tiny chance, but for the most part, you can see it's just a few

sprinkles that probably aren't even hitting the ground right now. once that's done, it is done. now. let's talk about sierra for second because we do have some of that moisture that has raced right up there to the sierra. they are getting some of that snow right now. so that will be continuing over the next few hours. not a great time to be on the roads there, but here in the bay area, we're just kind of the tail end of a system that's much further to the north of us and bringing some bigger totals up to as you can see, parts of oregon right on up into seattle. so that's where the real action is today. and we just kind of got a little taste of it as we work our way into the rest of the afternoon. and evening, though, as i mentioned, things will continue to approve. you can see how nice it's going to look here tonight and that means we're gonna get a little chillier tonight, too, with those clear skies. but it also means tomorrow that we start the day off. really, really nice. and we've just seen the clouds lift. this is the first time i'm seeing this half moon bay finally getting a little blue skies out there in half moon bay right now sitting at about 55 degrees. we made it up to 60 degrees now in napa. 61 in san jose. but it's been kind of a mostly 50's day. up to 61 there in santa rosa to

a torn meniscus when he developed a blood clot in his leg and was diagnosed with an infection in his knee that required additional surgery. he released a statement today saying he plans to return to capitol hill once medically cleared to fly. the meantime, mullen says he is working remotely with his staff to continue its efforts to, quote, fight back against trump's overreach. whelan says the town hall will be rescheduled at a date will be announced at a later time. oakland's interim mayor kevin jenkins is defending the city council's proposal to cut millions of dollars from the city's budget. oakland is currently scrambling to address a budget deficit of 129 million dollars. while the cuts could affect core services and the city like meals on wheels. jaqen says the city needs to go back to the basics. >> working with finance department, the city administration to put together our biannual budget. we have some. very tough decisions to make as a city. we have to get back basics. oaklanders too

killer. >> real white hoffer was reported missing november 15th, 1990, and the next day she was found dead in tilden regional park in the east bay hills area was founded throat around her neck. and i physical signs of a struggle in 1997, the east bay regional park district police department sent the potential suspects dna from the crime scene to the contra costa crime lab. but no match was found. then the fbi got involved in the investigation in 2020 and on wednesday during a news conference in oakland, east bay regional park district police detective christopher rudy says advanced dna techniques linked to killer through this investigation. john, the party was determined to be a potential suspect. >> and later became our primary suspect in 2024. detective rudy says these composite sketches of law party released in 2017 ended up being accurate. pari was in his mid 30's living in martinez when white hoffer was

>> new at 3, a new fire broke out at the moss landing battery plant. lithium ion batteries reignited spark flames around 6.30 last honoree county residents near the plant were urged to keep doors and windows shut from the smoke. officials say the air quality levels were good. as of this afternoon, the fire burned inside the same building where that massive fire broke out last month. january fire shut down part of highway one near moss landing and also for some evacuations, a group of moss landing residents affected by last month's battery plant. fire have already filed a lawsuit against pg e and other companies, health issues, drinking groundwater and consuming products produce grown in the area where the biggest concerns. >> a large number of pg e customers in the south bay will no longer see frequent safety related outages. during extreme weather events, the utility is now undergrounding power lines in south san jose

in hopes of reducing outages for 10,000 customers. >> the electrical circuit that serves these communities. the hicks. 21 0, 1, line. passes through both urban and high fire risk areas. so in this case, we want to keep the safety settings in the high fire risk area, but reduce the impact. dps outages in urbanized neighborhoods. >> this is one of dozens of projects coming to the south bay this year to produce outages. during heat waves and winter storms. looking outside here. this is san francisco starting to see some blue skies. some try to break through the clouds. we have meteorologist kyla grogan here now with what's happening. here we go. it's come the blue sky and other. i'm excited. ready for it. not everywhere, however, take a live look at sfo are you can see we still got gray skies. happy to say, though, that. >> we have not had any flight delays today. so doing okay there, but we're getting a little gusty when now about 19

miles per hour at sfo. but notice the gusts are going to get a little higher in the north bay. we're gonna get that northerly turn of wind and that will be with us today and into tomorrow. so just be ready for that. as this front passes us by even though we're starting to get the sunny skies little blustery as you work your way through the evening. but here we go. taking a live look and stormtracker and you can see again where we're starting to get that clearing behind this little impulse. this little front that's come through. and so we're looking pretty good now. there are a few clouds out there. they're capable of dropping a few showers. but outside of that, we should be working our way towards our skies clearing. and that does bring cooler overnight lows tonight. so look out my inland valleys. we could see some 30's there for you in the overnight tonight. t4at's kind of that trade off with the clear skies that we get live look from the east bay does show you there is plenty of cloud cover still out there. but again, we're starting to see that sun pop through piece by piece here as we go through the next few days. one of the nice things about the clear skies and high pressure in control is that we're going to see these temperatures go up. so you're looking at some of your inland temps here. well,

today, you know, topping out those low 60's tomorrow, we're going to get up there a little bit. and we are going to stay precipitation free. so this is looking into next week, at least the 1st half of next week. we are expected to be drier than normal. so we get a chance to kind of dry out and catch our breath after the rady run that we've had. here we go. it's because high pressure moves in. with that happens. it becomes kind of a protector of us by shooting any weather just over the top of us rates over. that's why we're able to stay dry. now we will see some of those clouds kind of overshoot that ridge a little bit and we'll pick that up as we get towards the weekend with see those partly cloudy skies, probably some nice sunsets to because of that. but you can see the overarching story here over the next 7 days is warmer, the next 7 days is warmer, drier. and really nice back to >> protests continue over the trump administration's cuts to the federal we're getting new clarity on who actually runs doge's the government, the organization that's trying to

gonzales, says he was selfless soul crushing everyone's at a loss. it is unimaginable. >> what what is our current reality? gonzales, who is from santa rosa was one of 10 people killed in a plane crash in alaska earlier this month. the small commuter plane went down in the bering sea gonzalez who worked as a power generation technician had to travel a lot to small remote areas. so i was at home waiting to come from. landing from that flight. got a feeling check to flight tracker. there is no new information on it. and i knew something was wrong. bowers never got the call from her husband, andrew. his remains along the others was found by search crews days later. whitney and andrew both grew up in santa rosa and got engaged in moved to alaska back in 2022. whitney's close with gonzales is older. sister francisca are gonna who is also grieving, though he's might be my baby brother.

room for more living donors with 97. 98,000 people on the waiting list and united states. we need more people getting out understand about kidney disease and want to donate even if they don't have a particular recipient in mind. >> do have a better chance of the kidney trance let transplant being successful for you if it comes from a living donor. >> yes, the living donor transplants are most successful harder 95%. first, your successes. >> living. donors are unknown entity. they've been completely evaluate it. that may ready for certain reasserted is chosen with a deceased donor kidney transplant. those commutes go to people on the waiting do not have large donors and a lot more variables. the timing certain is off. these are deceased owner says something's happened to that's led them to be donors. and the of course, are not in the same all. that's a lot of donors are. >> we're so glad you could

join us. doctor steve katz, nelson from san francisco said our house we could talk about kidney transplants after paul pelosi just had last week. thanks for being here. >> thanks for biden it. a south bay deputy is in critical condition today after a crash. the santa clara county sheriff's office says >> deputy daniel. rubble. us was on his way to work on valentine's day when he got into this head-on crash. he's now recovering from different surgeries. the deputy is the husband and a father of 3 young children in the peace officer research association of california has now set up an online fundraiser to help him in his family. the sheriff's office says they are still investigating. the crash in what happened. pope francis is doing better. the 88 year-old pontiff was admitted to the hospital in rome. with bronchitis on friday. it developed, though, into double pneumonia. and overnight officials say he was able to breathe on his own. the latest blood test shows his condition is a little bit better,

although under orders to rest, he is still conducting some vatican business from the hospital like viewing son, also signing some documents, however, and event that was scheduled for us this saturday has already been canceled. >> i'm here wide shot of the city of san francisco giving us a good idea. but the skies are trying to do today. we have kyla tracking some snow for us now. >> well, you know, we've actually had a little snowfall in the sierra, but i just have to pull this up because it was such a beautiful picture today. this is half dome at yosemite. you can see all of the snow on the ground there. we've had a pretty good run of snow lately. and as we take a live look at diamond peak visibility. not great right now. they've had that mix of rain and snow, but at the moment because those temperatures of lowered a bit here, 36 degrees. you can see we're gonna definitely have a few snowflakes flying wind out of the south there right now. and as we kind of zoom in, you can see where that moisture that's rolled across the bay area is now right there in the sierras. so it's not going to be a whole lot of snow. we're talking about an inch, maybe

2, but that's about it. and then that is all said and done. not a great time to be on the roads there. right now, though, when you've got some of that rain kind of mixing into icy conditions. >> as we look at the bay area that we are doing pretty well. you can see where that rain kind of pushed away in the last few hours. and now we're just left. are the >> few clouds and a few sprinkles before we wrap it all up. taking a look at the next few days here, obviously today we got the partly cloudy skies will get a little bit better as we get into the evening. then we have tomorrow. some nice sunshine, mostly sunny skies. 69 degrees for inland highs tomorrow. so we're going to start seeing that warm up that we've been looking forward to. not only is it thursday and friday, but right through the weekend and into the beginning of next week. when i come back, we'll take a look at that 7 day forecast. san francisco's first speed camera is up at a busy intersection at geary boulevard and 7th in the richmond district. the city is installing about 3 dozen cameras and there will be at least 2 speed cameras each district. >> and 7 cameras in soma. the cameras will step photos of

rear license plates. when drivers are speeding, the registered owner will then receive a citation in the mail ranging from 50 to $500 depending on the speed. safe streets. advocates with buck sf say they're hopeful the new technology will prevent traffic deaths as 2024 was labeled the deadliest year for traffic crashes in a decade. loved ones of those impacted by car crashes are celebrating this installation, hoping it will help protect pedestrians. my mom did lead position. she do that. she's >> impacted by some kind of car. that's why i tell people i represent my can i know she was cognitively not impair. she would want to use what has happened to her too, educate our community to not let this happen to someone else. >> the cameras will begin operating next month and it took 6 years to pass the legislation to legalize the speed cameras. governor gavin

newsom sharing some details on the state's fight against fentanyl in january, nearly 4 million dollars worth of the drug was taken off the streets. the governor's office adding since 2023 state task forces have seized 300 million dollars worth of fentanyl. and right now resources are deployed statewide for ports along the coast into cities. in national news, lawmakers are looking for ways to strengthen safety protections for children online. this is some senators continue to push the kids online safety act. washington correspondent basil john reports. >> in july of 2022, small. this time. giving up his suicide. south carolina state representative brandon got share details of how an online predator. >> cornered his son made him a victim of extortion. >> one of the messages i received red didn't tell you that your son begged for his life. >> got the urge congress to do more to protect kids online. missouri republican senator josh hawley says the issue is getting out of hand. would you say that there's?

>> getting to be more of that are getting to be less of 100% more like hundreds and thousands of more. i mean, i can't even percentage it. the national center for missing and exploited children says in 2023 more than 104 million images and videos of suspected child abuse material uploaded to the internet compared to 450,000 files in 2004, it's just an enormous explosion. it's absolutely everywhere. the senate tried to address the issue last congress with the kids online safety act. it passed in the senate, but it never made it to the house floor. >> it is only in the virtual space that it remains the wild west. tennessee senator marsha blackburn and connecticut senator richard blumenthal authored the act. >> they say the federal government has a duty to regulate safety in digital space like it does for cars and other electronics if they explode. >> there is liability for its not free speech to design a defective and harmful product,

officially on hold. supporters say the rule will benefit the environment but those against argue it will lead to increased gas prices. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has a closer look at this policy and explains why it's on hold. november 8th twenty-twenty for the motion passes. that was the day last year. the california air resources board or card voted 12 to 2 to approve new regulations enacting stricter changes to what's known as the low carbon fuel standard or else cfs. a program put in place more than a decade ago and at reducing emissions. >> supporters of the latest update including governor gavin newsom say it will protect the environment and reduce emissions by an additional 30% in the coming years. a low-carbon fuel standard is allowed us to transition now almost half. >> of our dirty diesel, diesel and a diesel has created thousands and thousands of jobs. but on the flip side of this very analysis from the air resources board found the proposed new policy could increase gas prices by $0.47

per gallon in 2025. and potentially even more in future years. another analysis found increases could jump as high as $0.65 per gallon. the analysys came to that conclusion noting the new policy could lead to higher costs for refineries, cost that then could be passed down to consumers. >> while air resources board staff members say their report was never intended to be an end. all be all prediction of gas prices and of since walked back to forty-seven sent analysis, republican senate minority leader brian jones says he's concerned it will lead to increased prices at the pump. we're going to keep fighting against that. i think gas prices need to come down in california. that's why he says he was relieved to see this notice from the california air resources board. and that's in the california office of administrative law. put carbs, latest regulation on hold, citing legal and technical concerns with the policy. it was not immediately clear what those exact concerns included. but for now, jones is with the new regulations on hold. he hopes it will lead to positive change. this governor and the

air resources board need to go back to the drawing board and figure out ways to lower the price of gasoline, not increase the price of gasoline. >> in this statement, carter responded to the decision to put the latest regulation on hold, saying, quote, the office of administrative law issued a routine disapproval bl cfs amendments on technical grounds, not on the merits of the regulation card will refine the language and resubmit for approval. the lcf s remains in effect in its current form. thank you, mr. president but jones who recently introduced a bill to repeal the new regulation altogether hopes it does not move forward. i'm going to keep fighting to make sure that we're lowering gas prices as much as we can. >> so what happens next? the new regulation is on hold while the resources board has 120 days to make changes to it and resubmitted to the office of administrative law for review reporting at the state capital. late on wallace kron, 4 news. >> new bill in the legislature seats to protect california's drinking water from p f a s is

often referred to as forever chemicals. the bill would mandate new state drinking water standards. supporters say will limit exposure to toxic and dangerous from a chemical set make their way into the water supply. the chemicals are found in everyday products like nonstick cookware, stain-resistant fabrics and firefighting foam democratic assembly member jesse gabriel says he offered this bill amid scientific research indicating exposure to these forever chemicals could lead to cancer and other illnesses. >> fundamentally, this is about a common sense approach with common sense regulation that everybody should be able to get behind and our kids and our families and our community should not be exposed to known deadly and toxic chemicals in our water. that is a baseline that hopefully everybody can get behind. >> similar legislation on the federal side faced opposition and legal challenges from a chemical manufacturing groups concerned about the cost to

remove the chemicals from water. it remains unclear what if any opposition that the state bill will face. looking outside here. pretty shot. what's going on as we talk about our weather forecast, this is a look here from our mount tam cam kind of a wider shot there. but looks like it's moving a little bit kind of breezy in this direction. going to little breezy north bay is going to see probably the brunt of the breeze. but hey, we're getting a little blue sky peeking through as we take a live look here at the embarcadero. i like the direction we're going in taere. >> the direction of the wind is about to be northerly. and you can see we are picking up the breeze here a little bit right to right now sustained wind in some of the teens here 18 miles per hour in san francisco, 13 in nevado livermore in hayward. so you could see about 12 in san jose. we're gonna see that pick up as we go throughout the afternoon and evening. so watch out for some of those wind gusts. nothing that's up to the level of the wind advisory, but still a little gusty out there. here's a live look at stormtracker that shows our system that has been moving through and we are wrapping it up. no doubt about it that a whole lot left here.

probably none of this actually hitting the ground. but that's ito that's why sprinkle cut to show you a little bit there along the peninsula in the east bay. temperatures now low 60's in parts of the south. may some 50's out there really a mix between those upper 50's and low 60's. but a pretty decent day. temperature wise, little cool. compared to average out at the coast and in san francisco. but everybody else about where we should be here is future cast taking you through the afternoon. this is about 7.30, this evening. notice as we get into the evening, more clearing comes our way and that means that we will see temperatures drop a little tonight, but will also start tomorrow with a nice clear sky. and then we get into tomorrow's temperatures and you notice these pics that are degrees above average is not just thursday friday, but even as we head towards the weekend, there you can see that saturday heading into sunday. if you had really far inland, right, then you see some of these temperatures that are going to soar and get, you know, 10 to 15 degrees above normal. so the point is we're going to see a warm-up and we're going to see some nice, sunny skies. and that has to do with high
