park, workers have lost their jobs. >> the firings are part of president trump's plan to eliminate federal jobs and save money. kron four's rob nesbitt spoke with some of these workers who lost their jobs at yosemite about how they think the park experience will change. now. good evening. rupp grant vicki, the workers who were fired from national parks were all newly hired this year and what's called a probationary period. but they also include workers who had been fired, who had en with the national park more than 20 years before switching to a new role. >> the sounds of nature bring millions of people to yosemite national park each year hikes, waterfalls and wildlife are abundant, but there will be fewer workers in 2025. president trump authorized the firing of about 1000 newly hired national park employees, looks more who was fired from his job at yosemite as a custodial work or why you know, i i make around $40,000 the year the custodian. >> make that much money. and, you know, i can't afford the pay the rent. a nearby community saw live. my truck.

trial in 2 years. >> new at 5, the council on american islamic relations, san francisco is speaking out against stanford university citing the university's ongoing suppression of palestinian advocacy, including arrests, suspensions and restrictions on student protest kron gayle ong has details. >> today care is former formally designating stanford university as a hostile campus from palestinian pro-palestinian students and faculty. that designation coming from the council on american islamic relations. san francisco or care members held a rally to speak out against the university's handling of pro-palestinian demonstrations. a clinical researcher at stanford shared her experience taking part in the rallies. >> one of our medical students with even threatened with suspension for refusing to walk away. during these actions. i have faced relentless harassment advocates argue these actions have created a climate of fear for those speaking out on

palestinian human rights while scampered claims to be committed to upholding free speech rights and freedom of expression. >> has also repeated be subject to students who protested the genocide to harsh disciplinary measures, including suspension and the threat of expulsion designation of stanford university as a hostile camps today is there for about holding the institution accountable to support a commitment to freedom of expression. students and staff who speak out against genocide are protected and treated fairly. >> on wednesday, students we spoke to off camera did not want to comment on the situation. many telling kron 4 off camera. they do not want to get involved back in september of last year. the university said it will be prohibiting distruptions on its campus, meaning demonstrations such as the one some students performed in the spring. graduation ceremony are now an authorized. the university warning at the time. violators are subject to disciplinary action. kron 4 reached out to stanford university about cares

designation but have not heard back. gayle ong kron. 4 news. we reached out to the j c r c for their response, but they say that they aren't able to comment at this time. >> and people of all different religions in san francisco are saying places of worship should remain sanctuaries. they gather today at saint mark's lutheran church. religious leaders are saying they're especially troubled by the trump administration saying immigration officers may be allowed to make arrests in places like churches, synagogues and temples. >> we do not turn our backs on each other. we do not round people up. we do not send them back into harm's way because sanctuary is not just a place. it's a calling. it's wholly resistance. >> this has more than 2 dozen religious organizations have filed a federal lawsuit challenging president trump's

immigration policy which allows ice raids in places of worship, schools and hospitals, all places that had previously been protected. in just about an hour. the vallejo city unified school district is holding a board meeting to vote. >> on school closures and consolidations is happening at mare island, health and fitness academy starting at 6 o'clock. the district is considering 3 options here, including closing the mare island academy. also at 6 tonight, the santa rosa school board expected to make a long-awaited final decision on which schools are going to close there. yesterday. they took part in a final 5 hours session where they narrowed their options down to 2 scenarios. the closures would take place during the next 3 years. tonight's meeting is at santa rosa city hall in the city hall. chamber council chambers and we'll have updates on both of those meetings tonight at 10 11. >> a new fire started at the

moss landing battery plant around 6.30 last night. they burned out overnight, but this was inside the same building where a massive fire burned last month. this is video from last month's fire that shut down part of highway one near moss landing and forced evacuations. a group of moss landing residents is preparing to file a lawsuit against pg e and other companies. whether time now as we get a live look outside on this wednesday. a beautiful night there at the golden gate bridge and those clouds are not producing any rain, at least for now. high lawrence kind of moved guys. yeah, see those showers going to speak by early on today and then. >> now get behind that. you get the ice that fresh air out there right now. it looks like partly cloudy skies around the bay area looking toward half moon bay right now have some light showers there. just a few hundreds of an inch of rain showing around most spots in the bay area that system kind of moving on out tonight. we got enough moisture in the air, probably going to see some patchy, thick fog developing in some of the valleys. temperatures still all that bad 50's a couple of

60's in place like livermore concord and saint rose at this hour as we head through the morning. here comes the morning hours. there you go. sliding on buys. you see the cold front kind of weak system moving on through and then behind that, you've got some passing clouds are really some drier weather kind of settling in for the night tonight. still looking at a few snow showers popping up over the sierra nevada. otherwise the storm system really kinda winding down. and i think we're settling into what's going to be a very nice weather pattern ahead with some much warmer weather on the way as you step out the door tonight at the you leave that umbrella behind plan on some partly cloudy skies. temperatures little bit cool out there. dropping low 50's as we head toward 8 o'clock tonight. but morning weather coming up in a few minutes. careful with the speed. san francisco is working to make city streets safer and officials are installing. >> 33 of these new speed cameras throughout the city. all of them, they're expected to be on and functional ca march. one of those is already installed here at the intersection of geary and 7th avenue in the richmond district. the cameras will

snap pictures of rear license plates. then the registered owner. we'll get a citation in the mail ranging from 50 up to 500 bucks depending on the speed. safe street advocates with walk sf gathered today for a rally. they like the cameras. they say they're hopeful. the new technology will help prevent traffic deaths. accidental drug overdose deaths. that's back on the rise in san francisco. sadly. >> the city had seen several months of falling recently. but as our kron four's, dan kerman tells us, there's now renewld focus on one community that's seeing a disproportionate amount of deaths. >> last month in san francisco, 59 people died of an accidental drug overdose after hitting downward for several months, accidental drug overdose deaths are on the rise again in san francisco and public health officials are especially concerned about one community.

we continue to see a disproportionate number of black african americans dying due to overdose. despite representing just 6% of the san francisco population. 28% of preliminary overdose deaths in 2024. among black african americans. that means african-americans are dying at a rate 5 times higher than any other community in the city. as a result, the department of public health is expanding access to medications to treat those addicted to opioids. last year we launched on demand buprenorphine with a focus on of nighttime telehealth outreach in the tenderloin and we are happy to say we are on track to bring the service to the bayview not neighborhood this spring. we built will be in the bayview getting people on the phone with a doctor when they want treatments. people are feeling what it did. >> for me, it gave me time and space so that i could recover and i didn't have to deal with those those cravings. and i

>> yet another plane crash in this country today. this one in arizona, investigators say 2 people died after their small planes collided this morning at mariah regional airport about 15 miles northwest of tucson. the faa says 2 people were aboard each plane. the more on a regional airport has 2 intersecting runways, but operates without an air traffic control tower. the multi-million d%llar project was underway to build a tower but delays due to the pandemic pushed back construction. tens of thousands of flights arrive and depart from the airport each year. the ntsb is

investigating. today's crash comes just a couple of weeks after that fatal mid-air collision in washington where 67 people died. that was the deadliest crash in the u.s. since 2001. 2 days later, 6 people were killed when a small medical plane crashed after taking off in philadelphia, february 6th, 10 people were killed when a small passenger plane vanished before wreckage was found in alaska. then february 10th. the person died when 2 private jets crashed at scott's tales airport in arizona 2 days later, a military plane crashed into the san diego bay. then on sunday, 2 people died when a small plane crashed after takeoff east of atlanta. monday that delta flight flipped over while landing in toronto. amazingly, no one was killed in that. contract. negotiations for air traffic controllers have stalled at the san carlos airport. >> according to san mateo

county mueller, this could put sky ways over the county at risk. the contract dispute comes amid ongoing national questions over aviation safety in the midst of job cuts at the faa by the trump administration. now we have reached out to the faa, san carlos airport and supervisor mueller for comment. and it will certainly share any updates as we learn them. alameda county superior court employees holding a strike today. they've been working without a contract since december 31st after negotiations failed. the union is standing up against what they claim to be unfair. labor practices calling for better pay and the reef mont time. they also say the court is using workers who are not trained to work as courtroom clerks. don't want to be out here, but we are here because we're trying to fight workers rights and we're trying to fight for our community.

>> people need to keep up with the cost of living living in the bay area. live in the world. these days is more expensive. >> the says that they are overstaffed by 100 employees and they would have to lay off staff members in order to increase pay. the court says that filling the vacant roles would depend on the governor's budget. >> oakland's interim mayor kevin jenkins is defending the city council's proposal to cut millions of dollars from the city's budget. oakland is currently scrambling to address a budget deficit about 130 million dollars while the cuts could affect core services and the city like meals on wheels, police and fire jake and says the city needs to get back to basics. >> oaklanders too often complained that the city does not do a good enough job doing basic services. so what that means holzer the police come when you call them. our city is clean. and so we're putting

that back to basics. budget together. >> the interim mayor says his plan will prioritize public safety and fiscal solvency. >> let's take a look outside right now. those clouds there they are. they're just cause sort of zing across the lens there. >> with the city of san francisco off in the distance. yeah. the middle july, you'll see a thick fog bank, lawrence. these are different, though. yeah, actually are starting to see some fog out there today. so it's kind of a mixed bag out there around the bay area. something going to see a lot but we haven't seen much of that fog during the winter season. that's because the air too unstable nowthey start to change gears a bit in the atmosphere and here we go. i think we're going to see a little bit more that overnight tonight. fact out towards sfo. right now we are seeing some of those low clouds and fog sweeping across san bruno mountain right now. no reported delays at sfo so far. so good looking good out there. a few showers had moved on through most. that rain today. yeah. just a really light, gentle rain. in fact, i was off for about 15 minutes where i live. so just came

through when on out now or start to clear skies out 16, 100's was most i could find in mill valley stanley and road just over a 10th of an inch of rain, lesser amounts in alameda, san francisco and all the way to hayward. in fact, no reporter rainfall, though, may be enough get the ground wet. and san jose just not measurable out there right now. you see that front kind of moving on buys. things begin to settle down outside a couple leftover showers in the high country and even a couple of snow showers up there, too. but overall, yeah, the system moving on out and the winds kind of kicking up a little bit behind. but even that is not too bad. a little breezy along the coastline. you're seeing some of those winds of moving up over 20 plus miles per hour up toward the beaches. but overall, yeah, nice pattern to be sitting in and there's that patchy fog kind of settling in overnight tonight as we head toward tomorrow morning coming patches showing up in the some of the valleys watch out for low ground fog early on tomorrow as we head throughout the day. nice dry day coming our way. high pressure starts to build back in and boy, these next few days. we're going to watch a nice change in the weather pattern. don't have to worry about rain

>> this into the kron 4 newsroom. a pedestrian has been taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after they were hit by a car in san jose. the collision was in the area of north first and east mission street police didn't provide any other details about the crash. southbound first street is currently blocked from hedding street to mission street. we have a crew headed to the scene. will update you as soon as we learn more. there. a new bill in the legislature is looking to protect. >> california drinking water from p f a's often referred to as forever chemicals. the bill will create a new state drinking water standards that will limit exposure to talk 6 and dangerous forever. chemicals and make it into our water supply. the chemicals are found in everyday products
