clouds and continuing to see a anywhere of sun and clouds but staying dry. 59 in reno for the temperature, 61 carson city, 65 south lake and 59 above average for this time of year and we are going to continue to warm up for a few more hours here and taking a look at the seven day forecast with highs in the 60s and yes even that day in the 70s tomorrow we talk about that plus rain chances and breezes coming up. back to you. a wellness policy is stirring up controversy among parents, teachers, school administrators and nevada department of agriculture from the healthy hunger free kids act passed by congress in 2010. six years later things are still being worked out in washoe county. madison has the details. >> it's a policy aimed at reducing childhood obesity but

>> the problem is we got to talk to fellow moms and realized every school is handling things differently. >> jessica is a school district parent and contributor to the reno moms blog. she recently wrote about her policy which limits the types campus. >> there's a lot of what are the reprecushions if the policy is broken. >> i spoke with the school nutrition services manager with the department of agriculture to get a better understanding on policy. >> we focused on processed foods and helped folks to determine if they met the criteria. >> the smart snacks nutrition standards showed here but the approved list seems to be where most of the confusion falls. >> the nevada school wellness policy doesn't say the only food that can be sold or given

we created that to help folks know what meets the criteria but in terms of the district foods that are allowed that's a district decision. >> recently they sent home a letter to parents stating in part at this time the policy applies to every school day include holidays birthdays and special events meaning any snacks brought into the school on those special occasions would have to meet certain calorie, sugar, sodium and fat limits. >> it seemed like parents and teachers were bearing accountability and there was a lot of cutting off of celebrations all together because no one really wants to police this thing. >> peter says the limitations can be altered by the district but because washoe county hasn't finalized their own policy there aren't any exceptions. >> is there a deadline you have to meet as far as putting that policy together? >> we have worked with them to

up and it's my understanding they are in the final stages of getting the policy finalized. >> a statement provided from the washoe county school district reads there has been concern among parents and students regarding the lack of special occasion days at school during this review and development period but the committee took the time to meet the needs of students as they grow and learn. the wellness policy committee compromised of teachers parents and health officials has completed work and will receive a final review by tracy davis in the next several weeks. >> that was madison corny reporting. as you can see there are many pieces to this puzzle. you can look at the policy for yourself and all of the related links on our station website my news 4.com. police are looking for two possible suspects after two men

home invasion. preliminary search forced near reno high school for a couple of hours. raven and canine units searched the home and neighborhood. the two suspects are described as light black or hispanic males. one six feet tall with a thin build the other 5-foot 8 with a heavy build and a tattoo on one of his forearms. police are asking you to be on the look out for this car. it may be related to the crime and other burglaries in the area. it's an older white two door passenger car with a white molding and a sun roof and filer. >> we do have a suspect that might have been related to other burglaries so getting the information out to the media and the community to rally together and get these suspects into custody. >> the elderly victim's injuries are non life threatening according to police

the number on the screen. you'll remain anonymous as always and the phone number is 322-4900. there's a $2,000 reward for any information in this case. now to an unusual story about an suv theft. according to police the victim in this case says she was heading north approaching greg street when her car was hit from behind. when she returned to the front of her car the driver of the other vehicle was going through her wallet demanding cash. he gave her back the wallet but drove off in her car. the driver of the other vehicle also took off. the suspect is a white man in his 30s with a bald or shaved head, tattoo near his ear on the left side and full tattoo sleeves on his arms. the other was a female in her 30s.

sparks police at 353-2225 or call secret witness. the university of nevada seeing a rise in the number of reported cases of sexual assault and officials say there may be a reason for this. denise is the director of the equal opportunity and title nine office. the department began awareness training for incoming students in 2012 which involved giving students information on how to report sexual assaults and since then reports have gone from 1 back in 2012 to 16 in 2015 but she says that does not necessarily mean there are more sexual assaults happening. >> i believe that the more awareness that we provide with the more information that we provide to students faculty and staff the more they are going to realize there is some place they can go for resources or interim measures. >> cordova also says that last

total of 120 allegations of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, discrimination and sexual harassment. now that the caucuses are over we may be getting a break from presidential candidates campaigning in northern nevada but politicians visited they were escorted by a police motor cade. all of the officers in the traffic division have had a very busy week as you can imagine. some of them had to do over time as well. to help the secret service protect the candidates they have to do all this. rpd works with the washoe county sheriff's office and how to best staff these motorcades. >> we generally come together and figure out the best route to take as well as making it safe by how many officers we'll need to handle that route. obviously the more officers that we have the safer it is for not only the public for for

>> some people are asking who pays for it. the money comes out of the reno police department's budget to pay officers for over time. the agriculture community across nevada is concerned about the economy and rebounding from the drought. today cooperative extension is hosting the nevada outlook. good news is on the horizon for the first time in years. thanks to this wet winter a lot of farms in central nevada are going to be functioning again. for more tune into our sister station tonight news 4 and 4. new at noon on average spent $2,000 per person at the event last year according to black rock city census released on friday people spent $600 in nevada which goes towards food. actual spending is less important than getting high powered people into the area which is helping rebrand the region.

the candidates prime goal is to try to do what they have failed donald trump. >> although he started as an outside candidate if you will not a frontrunner he's pretty confident and more confident than ever and opponents like marco rubio could be in for a rough night tonight. it should be interesting. scott mclean brings us the latest from the university of houston. >> just a few precious days before super tuesday the epicenter of the republican nomination race tonight will be texas where the five g.o.p. hopefuls will meet for a debate in houston. the big question can anyone stop donald trump. the frontrunner will be ready thursday night. >> we'll be totally prepared. peoples have not done well against me. so far everybody that attacks me has gone down. >> marco rubio has been attacking trump and it won't stop on the big stage.

temperatures again into the 40s and 50s even touching the low 60s so far in fallon and we do have a little bit more worming here to go into the afternoon hours. again mostly sunny skies a few clouds mixing in from time to time a few more clouds behind those so continuing to see a few trends from yesterday copy and paste from yesterday into today. dry across the area on future cast for today. really not too much going on. a few more clouds into tomorrow as well. by the time we get to your friday afternoon we start to track a little bit of moisture out over the california coast but watch what happens when the weak system falls to our north. no real chance for most of us seeing the breezes. if you are well north of reno sparks you may see one or two isolated showers but most of us are still going to be dry with the weak system passing off to

54 ael co and battle mountain lower elevations. winds are light for the day today. that will change a little bit tomorrow into saturday but again not too many other changes there. mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies into the 50s for today up and around tahoe into the 60s for the lower elevations so again above average. not too terribly close to records for today the record is 73 in reno going for 68. tomorrow will be closer because of a high of 71 and the record is 72 for reno. so again very warm over the next couple of days here. mix of sun and clouds. breezier for friday and saturday but not much of a moisture chance. most of that moisture will be well off to our north and falling apart as it moves over into nevada so not too much of a chance there. the next chance we do have is on sunday monday and tuesday with another weak system. 20 and 10% still nothing really all that impressive. instead the impressive thing is the temperature 71 tomorrow for the high.
