maricopa county county sheriff's deputies investigating what they're calling the violent death of a 3-year-old in the west valley. and a day of fun at the lake turns tragic when two teenage girls are badly burned. and the way 3d technology is helping doctors give patients a second chance at a normal life. thank you for joining us tonight. we start with a news alert. maricopa county sheriff's deputies are working on what they call a violent death of a 3-year-old child. >> this is just a horrible tragedy. our danielle miller has been at the scene all day long. she joins us live with some new information and danielle, you're saying that some of the new details are pretty shocking.

msco not confirming much at this time other than the fact that a 3-year-old was killed in this home. we did speak with neighbors who tell us their experience of what happened and their knowledge of this home here. these are some candles and teddy bears left behind for this 3-year-old child here by these neighbors. these neighbors are telling us that it's a single mom who lives in this home. she works very long hours as a nurse. she lives with five children, ages 17, 16, 9, it was one of the siblings that killed this 3-year-old, they're told. >> we noticed there were fire trucks and ambulances that had just pulled when you my husband and i came out. we looked to our right of our vehicle and we noticed that there was a girl on the sidewalk who was bleeding. >> reporter: amy describing the violence that happened just a few doors down from her youngstown home near olive and 111th avenue. she says that girl bleeding in

9-year-old who was just stabbed by her 16-year-old brother. >> she was actually running for her life along with her older brother and a younger brother. knocking, banging on the doors, trying to get someone to help them. >> reporter: mcso only confirming a that-year-old was killed. this 3-year-old boy was also stabbed by the 16-year-old. she says his 4-year-old brother most likely witnessed the violence, along with the 9- sibling, a 17-year-old boy. >> he made a comment about his brother was dying. and so for a 4-year-old to say that is something that i don't think any of us ever want to hear. and it was heartbreaking. i had my arm around him and just trying to comfort him, you know, to let him know that we there for him -- we were there for him.

3-year-old child did die here in this home. they're not telling us the person responsible has been arrested or if they're still searching for that person. the latest we're going to be updated is tomorrow. and when we get any of that information, we'll pass it along as it becomes available. reporting live, danielle miller, fox 10 news. >> thank you. and we are learning more tonight about the phoenix man charged with two counts of first-degree murder. police tell us he was a marine. 37-year-old brandon sotherland behind bars after killing two people yesterday. and neighbor at the time us the victims are his mother and stepfather. this happening yesterday afternoon. police say they got a call about a man hitting a woman and when they got the scene, they found a man and woman both severely cut and they were unresponsive. >> we've been called over several times and he wanders up and down the sidewalk. and they caught him taking

sidewalk before. he just disturbed person. >> reporter: a motive for the murders and the names of the victims have not yet been released. police are looking for two people as persons of interest in an unsolved phoenix homicide. they say these two guys might have some information about the deadly shooting of ernie sallano. he was shot and killed outside a convenience store near 42nd avenue and camelback last week. police say the 53-year-old victim bought something at the store, stepped outside, he was shot and killed. police believe these guys might know who the gunman is. anybody with information is asked to call silent witness. it was a frightening day for a family when their boat caught on fire. family says they were getting that boat into the water and they noticed that the engine was on fire and then there was an explosion. two teenage girls were sitting on the back of the boat at the time and they were both burned. one was flown to a nearby burn center. the other taken by ambulance.

figure out exactly what went wrong. >> it was just that. it was a floor fire. it was -- flash fire. it was a very brief flash of fire that burned these girls but we don't know the reason. >> now, we are told the two teenage girls are expected to be okay. but again, one of them with serious burns. nobody else was seriously injured. the search for missing 10-year-old boy jesse wilson continues, but the reality of his disappearance hits home as his soo the bradley academy where jesse goes to school starts classes tomorrow, monday. the principal had hoped that jesse would be there but it least he is not going to make it to his first day of school. he's been missing for three weeks now. he was last seen at his buckeye home. police don't have any new leads on where jesse might be, but people in the community are not giving up hope that jesse will eventually be found. an arizona community college

18 people are now confirmed dead in mexico as the death toll from hurricane earl rises. most of the deaths and destruction are due to earl as a result of mudslides triggered by the storms' relentless rains and flooding. hurricane earl first battered belize before slamming into mexico. it's been down greated to a tropical storm -- downgraded to a tropical storm. it's been a pretty warm for most of the state. and sitting this the 9:00 hour, sill this the triple digits with some winds out of the north-northwest at five miles per hour. so we're looking at some pretty warm temperatures in our forecast. we'll have that for you coming up. the reason why is we've got high pressure over much of the west. and that's driving out a lot of moisture, that monsoon moisture that was bringing in the storms. looks like a bit of a break. we take a look at our satellite and radar coming into the 9:00

now pushing off to the east and it's going to stay away from us for the next couple of days. for our dew points, you can see why we're seeing a lull in the monsoon activity there. not very high right now. nothing that's going to start to trigger those storms coming up from the south. so we are expecting again some dry conditions. you can see our warmer temperatures, especially in the evening hours right now, for buckeye, 93. goodyear is 100. sky harbor 104. deer valley 100. 94 in apache and 96 in moun tan hills -- fountain hills. the nicer temperatures up north. kingman 85. prescott is at 74. flagstaff nice place, 63. 89 for page. window rock at 65. yiewnla 96 -- yuma 96 and nogals at 83. we're a couple of degrees warmer today. we got to 109 for our high. that's four degrees above normal. our overnight low will be about 86 degrees, too.

a family of three is without thier home a a family's is homeless after their house caught fire early this morning in phoenix. >> yeah, there were three people inside at the time. no working smoke detectors in that home. but luckily the family was able to get out safely just in the

fox 10's courtney griffin has the story. >> reporter: this house off 14th street and mckinlly caught fire early this morning. thankfully, one person inside was awake to notice the smoke, since they don't have any working smoke detectors. >> that's what we feel was the absolute saving grace, was that she was up, smelt the smoke. she was already awake. up and about the house. smelt the smoke, heard some noises. went and investigated what was going on and was able to get the family out to safety. >> reporter: marian, another woman and a young boy were inside when it caught fire. they all made it out safely with their dog but sadly two cats did not make it out alive. she was asleep inside. >> i got up. i opened the door and i saw smoke and she was like, get out, get out. >> reporter: she says she never saw something like this -- thought something like this would happen to her. >> you don't expect, when you go to sleep, to wake up to something like that.

they were awakened by their smoke alarms. they along with their 4-year-old daughter, dog, and cat made it out safely. unfortunately a pet reptile didn't survive. fire crews managed to put out the flames, saving 90% of the home. they're investigating the cause of the fire. people in phoenix getting a fresh new hairdo and helping others at the same time. 10 local hair salons got together at the downtown renaissance hotel. the money they earned is going to help the orlando shooting victims' families. >> it really affected me in a way where i needed to actually react and do something. and i know other people that didn't know how to help out. and this is a way for me to be able to help and for people who don't know how to help participate and actually be part of it. >> and the proceeds will go to the shooting victims and a local
