somehow got into their back yard hot tub. >> danielle miller is live with an update on their condition. >> still not sure at this time just how these twins got into the back yard or even how they got into their above ground hot tub. the twins are still in the hospital tonight listing in very critical condition. >> we heard it once, we heard it hundreds of times, it only takes a few sesks inattention especially especially toddlers at that age. they are they will find a way out into the yard. >> just after 11:00 this morning tempe police and fire department responding to a neighborhood near priest drive for a drowning call involving two-year-old twins. neighbors tell us many people in the area have pools and hearing children were involved was heart breaking. >> i was praying for the god so nothing happen to them. >> it's just sad and very not

found in the back yard hot tub. they say it was above ground with no barrier. >> at this time we believe that the mother just looked away for a few seconds and that's when the toddlers were able to go into the hot tub. >> the children were rushed to cardon children's medical center for treatment. the girl has been transferred to the icu and is breathing on her own while the boy is still in the e.r. with val a heart beat. >> this shows it it doesn't have to be a traditional swimming pool that poses a danger. really any body of water, bathtubs, bucks and here we have a hot -- buckets and here we have a hot tub. >> we will continue to investigate this near drowning to find out exactly what happened. at this point it is appearing to be a horrible accident. if we get updated information on the twins' condition, we will pass those details along. reporting live, danielle miller,

sheriff's office has released the name of the man who drown yesterday. they say he was -- he was just in his late 20s. the chandler man was under water for four to five minutes in the lower salt river yesterday afternoon. some people in the area saw him in trouble and managed to pull him out of the water and give him cpr. sadly he didn't survive. detectives say this >> well a new weather record set today. we now for 2016 mark the third highest number of days that were 110 degrees or higher. it has been as hot of a summer as many of you thought. take a look here at the breakdown of the top three years for those really warm days. 2016 once again number three on the list. 28 days we have seen at 110 degrees or higher.

at 110 degrees or more. and first place in 2011, with 33 days that were above that 2000 -- 100 10-degree mark. there is plenty of time left this summer and into the monsoon season to see more of those 110 readings as much as we might not like to hear that but it's potential we could tie or not break some of those other records. it's worth mentioning that third place while we got that today is tied with two other years back in 2002. we readings or more and the same back in 1979 where we saw 28 days. for those who like the heat, we could see more records. for those who career to cooler temperatures we will stay in third place. let's balance off all of that hot news with some cool news. this is out of snowball in flagstaff. they are planning their opening day. that will cool you down. you can hit the slopes on november 11th this year.

now while we have seen as kristy attested to some extremely hot days this summer and a lot of them, they say the slopes will be covered in a fresh layer of powder. the arizona daily sun reporting it will be mostly covered in machine made snow, but beggars can't be choosers. >> it has been -- a lot of natural falling snow. now we will see it now that i said that. >> the skiers can expect to see a new high speed chair lift this season. >> can we go i'm loving all of this. especially the cool weather part. a man pulled over in a rental car that had stolen license plates. >> now dps is responding to this incident. marcy jones has that story live. >> that's right. as we know every story has two sides. in this case there is the added element of a third party mistake. according to dps this took place in the williams area on i-40 and when the car in question exited

their system as stolen, that's when things took a turn. >> stolen license plate may not seem like a big deal but it is a lot of times people steal cars and then steal the license plate from another car and put it on there. we don't know that it's a stolen car until we are able to stop it it and investigate it. >> on patrol thursday evening a dps trooper ran a plate that came back as stolen. according to their pio, this is a high risk stop following protocol the trooper had his drawn while he approached the stopped car giving commands to which he says the driver kenneth walton did not follow. >> shut the vehicle off. rolled down his window. and to step out of the car. he is not getting a response from what he believes and the only person he could see in the vehicle. >> with backup 10 to 15 minutes away, the trooper got closer to the car to make contact unaware a seven-year-old girl is in the back seat and that's when dps

>> wasn't pointing the gun at her, she sat up into his line of sight. >> and in a facebook post, walton claims the trooper tapped on the window with his pistol but that's not what dps says happened. >> when mr. walton said that he tapped the window with his gun, it wasn't his gun, it was his ring finger. >> following protocol, the walton placed walton in handcuffs and was detained briefly before the trooper determined it was not a stolen plate b a car dealership and he was let go. after dps saw walton's alarming account of the incident on facebook, they investigated the other side of the story right away. >> we understand his anger. we get it. but number one, we have the procedures in place for a reason. and that's to protect everybody involved in the situation. and honestly, mr. walton has every right to be angry and we support him in his anger.

to direct it in the right place which is this never would have happened if the rental company would have removed the plates like they were supposed to. >> now dps says the plate number registered as stolen because the rental car company did not replace both the front and back license plates with a new number after they originally reported it stolen. adding that they have fixed the rental car's error and now that number is no longer in the fbi data base. reporting live, marcy jones, "fox 10 news." thank you. and sheriff's canine who was attacked during a s.w.a.t. situation. his name is marco and he was attacked by other dogs when deputies went into this mesa home. they say the man inside had shot at his girlfriend. in order to save marco, the deputies say they had to shoot and kill one of the other dogs that was attacking. the marco is doing okay tonight. they say he needed some stitches and will have to take some time

an unlikely find a veteran's lost dogging its buried -- dog tags buried in an empty field. this is an area that washington man found those dog tags about 12 feet under a pile of mud. those dog tags had been missing for a long time. it it turns out they belonged to a veteran living right here in arizona. her name is deborah kay dennis. the man contacted the vet's daughter whose name is courtney who doesn't live too far away from that site. i mean, my mom was in the army a long time ago. for someone to find it and then find me is amazing. >> she can't wait to tell her mom about the discovery and learn how she managed to lose those tags so many years ago. we want to bring you up to date on a story we brought you last night. it's about the emergency surgery performed on a little girl named gabrielle just one years old.

police evacuate a terminal at jfk airport following reports of gunfire. port authority police say they receive the reports of shots fired near the departure area of terminal a. so far police have not been able to confirm if any shots were fired there. they have evacuated the area just as a precaution and there are no reports of any the search continues for the man who gunned down a new york city imam and his assistant. this unfolded outside a mosque yesterday. now this is a sketch of a man police say killed the two in broad daylight following prayers at the mosque. the 55 and 64-year-olds were both shot in the head a little before 2:00 in the ozone park section of queens.

releasing surveillance video of the shooting of the imam and his assistant. police haven't called this a hate crime, but neighbors say they believe the two victims were targeted because of their faith. investigators are trying to determine whether the shooting was triggered by an earlier dispute at the mosque. things still very tense tonight in milwaukee after rioting exploded in the city following a police shooting that happened last night. >> police say the 23-year-old shot and killed him saturday afternoon. they say the man who is block refused to put his weapon down. fox news reporter matt fin is in milwaukee and has the latest. >> reporter: the police killing of a black man triggers violent protests and arson in milwaukee overnight. walk governor scott walker activating the national guard to help law enforcement in case violence persists in my off duty people are in place.

>> you do that. tell me if you have a knife. >> a baton rouge tv crew in a boat hear this woman screaming for help saying she is drowning. and they saw her convertible was quickly sinking in the flood water. so the men on board tried to break the car's window. you saw them there, they got her out. they actually pulled her. >> get my dog! get that -- dog now! >> that's her being rescued but dog. so one of the men -- you see them trying to get her out of the water there but they go back and they say we are sorry but your dog is gone. the woman herself goes under. finds her dog. pulls him to safety and after a few tries everyone is safe. the woman, her pet, they are all okay.

gives you the chills. we have seen tremendous a flooding through louisiana, parts of mississippi, we will start off with your local forecast but soon we will take a look at that section of the country because it's a mess. we are below the 100-degree mark here at sky harbor. we will continue to cool overnight into those 80s in and around the valley. we will start to see a change in the weather pattern. high pressure still the dominant feature but we will start to see more of a dry flow. we will see very conditions. at average if not above average. very different picture than what we are seeing throughout the southeast. the gulf, we were continuing to tap into that moisture and in addition to watching that area of low pressure make its way from texas all the way into up into parts of ohio valley through mississippi and louisiana over the past few days we have seen anywhere of 20 to 30 inches of rain in some cities as a result of those strong storms moving through and tonight you will see several severe thunderstorm watches and

strong line of thunderstorms continues to creep to the north and to the east. now very different picture here in arizona but we have our own advisory out of sorts. maricopa county is under an air quality warning through tomorrow at 9:00. the concentration ozone concentration very high if you have any breathing problems, stay inside definitely if you can. temperature-wise numbers right now ranging anywhere from 97 in goodyear to 96 for deer valley. florence in the upper 80s. chandler 97. buckeye you are a couple of degrees warmer than that. and today coming in at average. 105 where we ought to be and continue with that downward trend on average for temperatures. coming into a degree above that today and record temperature 117 is what we set just a year ago. very different picture than what we saw out there today. for tonight temperatures will cool down to about 90 for lake havasu. we will see 75 overnight for kingman. 72 expected for safford. 63 for payson.

for nogales. and tomorrow we continue with what will be considered excessive heat in many locations. we will see 110 plus easily in many spots. as we talked about that record being set thus far for phoenix in 2016, doesn't look like we have to be 110 for phoenix but plenty of other places. all well above that 110 mark. gila bend you will be at 110 if not 111 for tomorrow afternoon. the words of the day, the words of the week at least started are dry and warm. a few high clouds for your overnight hours into tomorrow. it looks like 108 the expected afternoon high will see mostly sunny skies. very mild pattern in terms of thunderstorm activity and the potential for monsoon storms. that changes as we get farther into the week. we will warm up and then start to see the chance for storms back into the forecast potentially your thursday and friday. and you will notice that drop in temperature there as well. transition from drier and warmer to a little bit cooler but it

the parents of one of the the parents of one of the nigerian school girls kidnapped two years ago say they recognized their daughter in a new video. the footage apparently shows dozens of the school girls who were abducted. their daughter was abducted along with about in nigeria back in 2014. the parents say they were relieved when they saw her in a video posted by the terror group boko haram when the kidnapping first happened dozens of the girls managed to get away but more than 200 are still missing. donald trump ramping up his feud with the press once again. >> we may learn more about what hillary clinton said to the fbi last month while being questioned about her private
