more of those credit card skimmers at gas pumps in the month of august than they did all of last year combined. >> and officials say the criminals who want to steal your credit card information are really upping the ante now. ty brennan joining us live tonight to explain. >> reporter: yeah, you guys, right now we are at 27th and glendale here in phoenix, and this circle k location is one of those areas where the skimmers were found. this bundle of cables and wires may not look like much to the untrained eye, but these are being used to steal your money when you fill up at the pump. >> crooks are very ingenious. they take modern technology and they make it work for their benefit. >> mark killian is the arizona director of the department of agriculture, which oversees the weight and measures services

big uptick in the number of credit card scammers being scald by crooks all in an effort to steal your credit card information. so far this year, the department has found 40 credit card skimmers all over the state. just this month, they found 12. they only found 11 in all of last year. >> our biggest challenge is trying to stay ahead of crooks. they change technology fast as what we are doing. they can open a gas pump and install a skimmer device in the cabling connected to the card reader within seven seconds and be out of there and gone. >> killian says the best way to protect yourself, start asking questions. >> wherever you fill up for gas, you should go into the station and ask them how often they check for skimmers. that's really important because that lets the fuel distributors

today he accepted a plea deal in court pleading guilty to a federal conspiracy charge after admitting to the judge that he helped take the protest to the next level, in his words. he faces up to three years in prison now, and he's the 11th of the 26th oregon standoff defendants to plead guilty to their charges. a six-month old boy dies at a home in pinal county, and sheriff's deputies are trying to pfigure out what happened. on friday deputies call in san tan valley about an infant who wasn't breathing, and when they got there, they found the caregiver performing cpr on the baby who had already died. the 62-year-old caregiver who runs the day care in her home says she put the baby down for a nap, and 90 minutes later he wasn't breathing. the home appeared to be under renovation, with exposed wood, nails, and dirty flooring.

pulled over by a d.p.s. trooper near the grand canyon after the license plates on his rental car came back stolen, and it's what happened next that has blown up on social media. it was supposed to be a memorable trip for kenneth walton and his 7-year-old daughter, a trip to the grand canyon. but before getting there, walton says something unexpected happened. he was pulled over along i-40 after the rental car he was driving came back as stolen. >> i wasn't speeding or doing anything else so i just turned to her and i said don't worry. >> reporter: moments later, the d.p.s. trooper with his gun drawn approached the vehicle and demanded that he opened the passenger side window, and according to walton, that's when he pointed the gun right at his daughter. >> my daughter was trying to help, so she lurched forward out of her booster to try to get to the front seat to open it, and he yelled at her and waved his

ordered her not to move. >> frightened and scared, he tried to comfort his daughter. >> a trooper saw him try to reach or lower his hand toward his waistband, and he told him do not reach to your waistband or i will shoot you. >> they say any traffic stop involving a sto be very dangerous. as it turns out, the rental car agency made a mistake, and he and his daughter were free to go. but he later took to facebook to air his displeasure about how d.p.s. handled the violation. >> mr. walton has every right to be angry and we support him in his anger. however, we feel he needs to direct it in the right place, which is this afternoon would

like they were supposed to. >> walton meanwhile, says he is looking for an apology from d.p.s. and the rental car company, and he's still trying to explain to his daughter exactly what happened during that incident. a big announcement to phoenix pride. phoenix pride says the center was not serving enough people on a day-to-day basis and that funding at the center was challenging. the organization continues to plan to offer the same services moving physical space at the renting. the services will be available online. a fox follow-up tonight on a man that we have been following for quite some time now. you may remember him. his name is pasquale bracho, and he goes by possible pat. >> he did it the hard way, pat has shed more than 300 pounds. he's just amazing, an

the extra weight loss, that left him with a lot of skin, and he finally got the surgery to remove the extra skin. >> a big day obviously for the entire family, not just for pat, but for his wife and his sister who were there with him today sitting outside the waiting room during a ten-hour procedure, removing skin from his otherwise muscular body. he is walking away man without any medical bills. a word of warning, some of the images that you are going to see from pat's surgery may be a little graphic for some viewers. in two and a half years, bracho has lost over 300 pounds. his rigorous exercise and strict diet still leaving him with handfuls of excess skin. >> it was a big thing to him. he still felt insecure about situations like that with the

and his sister sat anxiously as the man known as possible pat had that skin removed. >> he was in danger, and all of those things that happened to him, i think he just wanted to leave. >> the doctor removed his skin almost entirely for free, pat contributing $2,000 from a gofundme account, and the doctor contributing the remaining 38,000. over ten removed several feet of skin from pat's stomach, chest, and back. the procedure broadcast to the world on snapchat. >> because pat did such a great job of building all of that muscle, we didn't have to do anything with that, so his recovery is going to be pretty easy. >> he felt like i worked this hard and now i have this skin, and for the doctor to do this, it's really amazing. >> you can see incredible results just from those images

this moisture for about three days now, and it's actually been longer than that, but the heavy stuff has really started over the weekend. and take a look, we have only gone back 12 hours to look at this, and here down by houston, you have one and four tenths, you have three and five tenths, you have a little over an inch here just south of memphis, south of chicago a little over three inches, east of the and three tenths of an inch. this is what it looks like on the futurecast. these are things that are happening, what's happening through the rest of the week here, and that's a lot of moisture finding its way through louisiana. it's not every day, not every minute, but it's a lot of moisture that's going to be working its way in there. 101 right now with winds at the south, six miles an hour, 99 right now in scottsdale. as you get as you get a look at it here, we do have some moisture around the state but

rapidly. you see some stuff around payson, get a little look at it right in here, just kind of rolling on by, and once again drying out somewhat here in the flagstaff area. nice little batch of moisture flowing through over the last hour or so. we take a look at the eastern mountains and see just a little bit of active weather that is drying up there. also, we do have an air quality issue that's going to be with us through tuesday at 9:00 p.m. the ozone level is a little high. if you are heading to the w you might want to remember that there is a fire warning and an excessive heat warning on the california border as you head over there. 110 degrees for today, 108 at buckeye, 109 at glendale. in chandler 108 degrees. and that 110, well, that was the 29th we have had this year. we have had 33 is the record of 110s or better. that happened to us in 2011. so we'll see here what happens,

campuses. the inmates are employed by the florence unified school district to do tasks like maintenance and landscaping. >> and it may sound a bit risky but school officials say the students are perfectly safe and workers save them a lot of money. >> we got an e-mail from a viewer who says that there are inmates working at the florence schools unified school district. she is concerned and wants to know that the students are safe. she asked us to look into it, we did. the sign says inmate work crew on premises. this is the school bus farm for the florence unified school district. inmates work here and also on the grounds of school district schools, including florence high school, but there are tight regulations and strict screening of the inmates. >> they go through a screening process and then they give us the number that they have.

between ten and 20 on any given day. >> reporter: inmates work on mains and landscaping at times when the students are not present. >> it's probably going to cost the district between 30 and $40,000 including the benefits and everything. with these individuals, we are talking $0.50 an hour, hundreds of dollars over bunch of projects. >> reporter: a student spoke to didn't have a problem with the program. >> i mean, not if we are not there, and they are probably trustees if they are able to work like that. >> so you don't have a problem with it? >> not really. >> reporter: the florence unified school district says this program has been in operation since 2002 with no problems. steve krafft, fox 10 news. flagstaff police asking people to be on alert after a woman is sexually assaulted by a

police officer. the assault happened over the weekend just north of the n.a.u. campus and the man was wearing a hat that said police on it when he walked up to the woman's car and identified himself as an officer. under that ruse, he led the woman to a secluded area and sexually assaulted her there. if you have any information about this case, call the flagstaff police. across america, the mayor of milwaukee is pleading for peace in the streets following days of violent riot in the city. that unrest is stemming from the fatal shooting of black man by police. 23-year-old sylville smith was killedply bipolice on saturday. police say he was armed with a

a woman in a wheelchair. if you have any information, call police or silent witness, 480-witness. a crash happened this afternoon right near apache and river drive. the owner of a nearby auto body shop helped the driver get out of the car. >> someone obviously got hit by a the gentleman was disoriented so we took him into the office. a.d.o.t. and d.p.s. reaching out to the public to discuss self-driving cars on arizona roads. it is the future after all. the self-driving cars oversight committee held its first meeting today, discussing the benefits of self-driving cars in arizona. the director of a.d.o.t. says there's still a lot of work to be done, but he believes these cars can make our roads safer.

a group of teens at the school decided to spend a lot of their own time writing heartwarming messages on sticky notes to put on every single locker at the high school. last wednesday, students came to school and they found thousands of those brightly colored notes on their lockers. >> we really want to make a difference at our school, and so we were like, you know, what's a great way to have a great first day and make everyone smile. people s positive and know that there are people out there who love you, and no matter what you are going through, you can always find a brighter side of things. >> these are teens that you want to have around. >> absolutely. i want to have one of these on my desk tomorrow coming into work, kari. >> you know what? i'm going to do that, starting tomorrow. the teens made 3,000 sticky notes. >> i could have used that today on my monday.
