thank you for joining us. we begin with a fox 10 news alert at this hour where there's just been a wild turn of events. skyfox over a big police presence in a small neighborhood in florence, southwest of the valley. a man holds police at bay for hours from inside a home. the swat team is called in to try and get this man, a convicted sex offender, to surrender. so let me first start by showing you where this all unfolded. it's the town of florence, south and east of the valley. right here so what we are going to do is go down south and east even of queen creek. you may have golfed in this area. johnson ranch to give you an idea is the san tan valley. the home we are talking about is south and east of that. i'll zoom in and show you, it's a little small subdivision here. again, it's around a golf course. you can see this whole neighborhood is affected by what's going on, celeste.

twist here, the suspect has escaped, and he's on the loose right now. this all started just after midnight when the suspect's girlfriend called 911. now, she said the man was threatening her with a gun, so she left the home two children, ages 11 and 12. she told authorities the man promised he would not be taken alive and also threatened to kill deputies. the suspect is wanted for previous violation of sex offender registry laws as well as threats and harassment and when they finally got inside the home, the suspect, this man, 49-year-old john bowman, was not inside. he somehow escaped. they believe he stole a truck and is currently on the loose. deputies spotted him running into a park near the school in the copper basin community. it's about five miles north or so. the school was locked down as a precaution. he is believed to be driving a 2008 chevrolet pickup truck, silver with black rims, and we do have a license plate for you

370 zzy. it's up for you on your screen as well. it has a skull sticker on the back window. the suspect is considered armed and dangerous. if you see him or that truck, call 911. a public meeting is going to be held tonight where phoenix police will give the lathe update on the serial shooter case. that shooter is believed to be responsible for at least nine different shootings since march. here's a map of where they happened. seven people peeple have been killed, people out in front yards or walking down the street, including a 12-year-old girl. the shooter is described as a hispanic man with dark hair, using a black bmw 5 series and also a white cadillac or lincoln in the shootings. tonight's meeting is near the

a pedestrian was hit overnight near scottsdale road and mckellips. the victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. the tow truck driver stayed at the scene. it's unclear if he'll be cited. this was this morning at scottsdale and loop 101, putting out a hay fi the a.d.o.t. camera, the back of the truck, pulled off to the side of the freeway. firefighters were able to put out the fire and traffic is once again moving smoothly. a family of five in mesa forced out of their home by fire. the family was asleep around 330 this morning when their water hereto somehow caught fire. they smelled the smoke and got

a lot of smoke damage. the family is staying with relatives. the estrella is under another pollution advisory today. this is the fourth day in a row we are being warned about high levels of ozone, and the advisory is expected to last through tomorrow as well. for some people, ozone can make it hard to breathe. you're being asked to reduce your driving if at all possible. new at noon, grand canyon university just keeps getting bigger and bigger. it's going to complete construction of ten major athletic facilities in just two years. it's part of its campus expansion there in the west valley. the school is continuing its transition to the ncaa division i of athletics. the transition begins next week with the opening of gcu campus facility. it will include softball and baseball stadiums and also a basketball practice facility. the last remaining tower of

was found. flood waters are recreeding in many parts of louisiana today while they are continuing to rise in many others, the water draining into the gulf of mexico. you're taking a look at some of the aerial views. just heartbreaking when you get up close. he says while more than 20,000 people have been rescued, more than 8,000 are staying in shelters but that number is fluctuating as people arrive and leave the shelters >> in calmer today. this is two days after the shooting of a black man. ten people were arrested there. it might be helping that they started enforcing a strict 10:00 p.m. curfew for anybody under 18.

felony counts of perjury, seven other misdemeanor counts of abuse of power. kane faces seven years in prison. she plans to appeal. a man is arrested for starting the extremely destructive clayton fire in northern california. 40-year-old damon pashilk facing 17 counts of arson now. this fire has destroyed 175 homes. a military tank falls off a bridge and right into a creek in taiwan ahead of the country's annual military exercise. three soldiers were killed, only one survived and is hospitalized at this hour. officials were at the site, investigating the accident with the tank still submerged in water. the tank was returned to a base after a military drill. a man and woman somehow

tough number for this day, 105 is your normal high, the record 113, that coming in 2013, but here's the way things are going. again, we have got showers in mostly northern arizona now, but it looks as though we are going to see things popping probably for another couple of hours. as we roll into tomorrow, it should be a little bit dryer and a little bit cooler as well. but the dew point still not so bad here in the valley. unfortunately the air quality is not so great. we have got this o out until 9:00 tonight, so if you are one of those folks who are prone to the troubles that come with too much ozone, today is going to be a tough one for you. again, here's a look at the rain. you have to head up the 17 and get up to nearly prescott northward or payson northward to find it, but in some spots it's coming down pretty well. we have got a shower on the back road towards congress and yarnell, which is over here, but

see those billions of squiggles there on that road, route 89? it's quite a drive. and with rainfall it's pretty troublesome for sure, but anyway, more showers pushing over here east of the 17. between there and route 87, a heads-up towards winslow, but in the flagstaff area, it is busy. we have got a very big storm just north of town there, around humphreys peak. that one probably has some hail in it, and as you head farther to the north of towards grand canyon, tuba city, page, the kaibab plateau, it's raining pretty hard in those spots. over to the east across apache couty and we have got the showers on the move there also. it's going to be that kind of a day. plenty of rain to go around, but mostly north of the valley. i think we're going to remain dry here in town. but 109, lake havasu city already, 108 at bullhead city, and so it means we are in for

mountains of california. this is the blue cut fire in the town of devoer. it's only burned about 300 acres so far. you can see these flames, they are moving, with dry conditions expected to grow really fast. what we are hearing this hour is evacuations are underway, and i bet you can expect to see a lot more firefighters there on the front lines trying to put the flames out, troy. >> i thought we just saw a building in one of the very first shots we got of those san bernadino mountains are directly due east of central los angeles, and they are so dry, we have talked about it in the past, they don't of the big pine trees on them, but they do have that kind of low kind of june per scrub, and that stuff just burns. these hills have probably burned at another point in the past not too long ago, doesn't appear to be too much on top of them.
